morning

twoplusone - must be lovely having ds in creche. don't do too much though! Aren't you meant to be taking it easy?

bubble78 - good luck with scan tomorrow. Shame you can't get anyone to look after ds1 so that dp can go with you.

Bodkin · 24/01/2007 11:04

Hi, there was a lot of chat after my last post, but wanted to ask this again:

Am a bit concerned about my weight gain so far though - I have put on a whole stone already (15 weeks) that seems like an awful lot considering the bean is probably only about 8cm long or something. Last pg I think I only put on 2 stone the whole time. How much has everyone else put on so far? Am I completely porking out?

Cyee · 24/01/2007 11:22

Hi all and hello Bodkin - havent 'seen' you in a while.

I think you have to go with the flow weight-wise. I've put just under half a stone on (16+3) which I think it a lot less than I could have, based on what I've been eating.

As long as you're eating as healthy as poss (I'm finding this tough since I only want naughty stuff) and doing some gentle exercise you should be ok. From what I've read there's a real range of 'ok' weight gain and I think I'm on the low-medium side of things. Don't fret!

Hope you're all happy and well.

MelissaM · 24/01/2007 11:24

Hi

I've put on 4 1/2 lbs so far (I'm 16+2) but I am still being sick, so I don't think I am a good example. (I'd also just lost quite a bit of weight b4 getting pg).

Don't worry about how much weight you put on, it is more important that you have enough of everything so that the baby isn't going to deprive you. I am sure you will lose it ok afterwards anyway. If I can lose weight, so can everyone else.

Bodkin · 24/01/2007 11:28

Gah - I knew it was a lot! don't think Christmas has helped. Perhaps now my energy levels are back I'll steady off for a couple of months (hopeful emoticon) But I don't feel like I'm eating that much more than I normally do. Have started swimming once a week (well, first time was on Monday) and it was really nice, so will try and keep that up too.

twoplusone · 24/01/2007 11:30

Bodkin- tbh I really dont know I havent been on scales for atleast 6months..they kept lying to me!!! lol
But remember itsnot just baby, its the fluid placenta and have your bobs grown.. all needs to be taken into account!!

Bodkin · 24/01/2007 11:31

Cyee - had a weeks holiday at Centerparcs (fantastic, brilliant, ace) last week which is why I've been so quiet. Also, sometimes it's hard to get a word in edgeways on here, its so chatty!

MelissaM · 24/01/2007 11:43

bodkin - I really am not a good example cos I've hardly kept anything down. When I do eat it's not much cos if I do I feel sick again (sorry for the self pity)

as twoplusone says, you have the placenta, fluid, baby & and all that extra blood as well as boobs - that sure adds up

abgirl · 24/01/2007 11:50

Bodkin, am not sure how much weight I've put on as threw out the scales last time I was pregnant, as felt I was developing an unhealthy obsession with how much weight I was putting on. I get weighed at the ante-natal clinic but they weigh me in kilos and don't have a clue what they mean! It all came off after DS (with a bit of help from Rosemary Conley).

Am STILL signed off work, do feel much less exhausted but developed a bad cold over the weekend. Starting to feel much better now and torn between getting a fit to work certificate and going back early, or saying sod it and have the rest of the week off and giving myself a chance to recover totally. Going to speak to HR when I go back to see how flexible 'flexible working' can really be...

Had an ante-natal appointment with the GP on Monday and heard the baby's heartbeat. Also blood pressure was at its lowest ever recorded level so lying on the sofa all of last week has done some good! Now booked in to see midwife every two weeks from 20 weeks onwards to start the blood pressure monitoring...

abgirl · 24/01/2007 11:52

Forgot to add am v re centreparcs. We are thinking about going in Autumn for 4 days with DS and new baby - do you think this would be practical?

Bodkin · 24/01/2007 11:52

Poor you Melissa - hope the sickness eases off soon, it must be very draining. I didn't suffer with MS too badly, so perhaps that is why I've put on so much. Normally my weight is very steady and I'm happy with my figure, so this has come as a bit of a shock! I know that I will put on weight, but it seems to be going on parts of my body that is not even producing a baby (thighs and bum)! Last pg I was in my normal jeans until 6 months!

Well I won't moan anymore, all is well with the pregnancy and I am feeling otherwise good. Could be a lot worse than a few pounds here and there.

Bodkin · 24/01/2007 11:59

Hi abgirl - glad to hear the rest has done you good. Re. Centerparcs - there were quite a few families there with young babies, but I have to say it looked like quite hard work - especially in the pool! We were planning to go again next Jan, but might wait until March/April so that No. 2 will be able to sit up well and maybe even crawl a bit.

Will take your advice and lock scales in cupboard for next 6 months!

MelissaM · 24/01/2007 12:59

abgirl - glad you are feeling better after the rest.

bodkin - centreparcs sounds good. I might have to talk dh into it when lo comes along (although also thinking of a sunsail holiday in late Sept if feeling up to it. had planned on going in May if hadn't got pg so quickly.)
Lots of people seem to put on weight on their bums & thighs (I am too). Think I might put my scales away too as I am getting a bit paranoid about not putting enough weight on! We're never happy are we

catstar · 24/01/2007 13:14

Hi there - just catching up with the thread as haven't been on for ages. I weighed myself this morning and have lost wieght - have now gone down to 10 stone when I'm usually 10st8 (am 5'11" so not overweight). Although I have been feeling v rough with ms I haven't been physically sick and have been eating like a complete pig. I was concerned about my weight loss until I spoke to someone at the gym. Before my BFP I used to run and cycle a lot, and muscle weighs more than fat, so think I have just turned to blubber!!!

From what I have been reading, weight is not a serious issue unless you are very underweight or very overweight, so I too am not going near scales except when required by midwife!

It's a great help reading about opinions on pushchsirs etc as I don't have a clue what to get, and money is an issue so really don't want to get the wrong thing - so keep up the suggestions!

I'm still pinching myself that this is real - I now have the smallest bump to stroke and am sure I felt some fluttering in bed last night. When is it wise to start using a support pillow thing in bed? Also, I'm sure I read that it's not good to sleep on your back (which is of course my favourite position) is this an issue now or is it just later on?

All these questions!! You can see this is all new to me!!

Trimum2 · 24/01/2007 13:23

Bodkin - I am in exactly the same place as you. I put on only 2 stone (almost to the lb) the last time. And I know that I put on ZERO! lbs in the first trimester.

This time - oh my god. Up half a stone by end of first trimester and up almost a stone now. And am still not even 18 weeks yet

Last time I did lots of exercise but this time I have Sacro Iliac joint problem and am feeling depressed about not exercising and stuffing my face instead. Am very worried as if this goes on I will be the size of a house.

Not sure what I weigh now. Know I had lost half a stone at my booking appt, prob because anything I should have eaten made me feelsick. Was living on soup and bread. Since then appetite has returned big time and I think i'm making up for it. Jeans getting tight now. We are decoreated the bathroom at the moment and I'm not sure where the scales are. (any excuse) As a rule I don't normally go near scales. I have scalesophobia. I'm 5 foot 10 and when the scales says 11 stones plus it is scary.(I know for my height that is normal but I don't like it so I don't go near them)

Bodkin · 24/01/2007 17:10

Lucky you Kyte - I think my metabolism has slowed down! I am 5 ft 8 (ish) and normally weigh about 9 stone 7lb. I had put a bit on before getting pg so was more like 9 stone 10lb. Like you say Typhoonsmum, it's not nice seeing those scales whizzing round towards 11!!
