Well, am hoping that everyone had a good Christmas - didn't really miss the alcohol but would like some brie and pate! We have spent this week with my ds going cold turkey on his dummy - he found it quite difficult and we had a few disturbed nights but he seems to be settling down now, which is good.

MS has virtually disappeared though I am still getting tired and having a nap most afternoons (the joy of leave from work!!), also starting to have a serious think about sorting my clothes out and getting the maternity stuff down from the loft. Can't wear joggers when I go back to work and some of my jeans have been decidedly tight over the past week!

What is everyone planning for NYE? We are going over to some friends for a meal, they have small children too so it won't be too raucous - guess I'll be driving (again)...

glittercaz · 29/12/2006 11:13

hello ladies,

happy christmas to you all! i've been keeping an eye on this thread but haven't had a chance to post. wanted to say how sorry I am to hear of your loss cazzybabs, it must be awful. I know this will not make things easier at this time, but it's not neccessarily bad news for the future. my best friend's aunt had several miscarriages but ended up having a beautiful daughter at the age of 41. You are still so young, and I'm sure there is hope.

i also can't work out how to add on the stats thread! also am feeling slightly confused about dates and what I should be telling people! going on date of last period I would be 12 weeks next week, but I had an early scan which takes me back two weeks to the 30th of July! Are most people going on date of last period at this point?

to those who had strange reactions when they shared the news at xmas - I am so with you! my mother in law behaved TERRIBLY - i don't get on with her at the best of times (she is very self centred and narrow minded) but she really took the biscuit with this. it's her first grandchild and all she managed to do was to say that she didn't really feel old enough to be a granny and very little else in the way of congrats etc! she is such a cow - me and DH are really about it. but never mind - nothing can spoil our happiness!

finally, to those worried about symptoms stopping/changing etc - I spoke to a midwife a few days ago as got in a panic as all boob soreness had stopped, and was reassured that towards the end of the first trimester symptoms do commonly tail off. I was also told that symptoms do fluctuate/change throughout pregnancy, and it's important not to worry to much: easier said than done, I know! xxx

twoplusone · 29/12/2006 13:16

glittercaz- at your MIL.. she would have hated to be my mother then I told her she was going to have a grandchild when she was 39!! (She was 40 when I had DD). My reply was if you hadnt of had me so young then you wouldnt be a young gran!!.
Abgirl- thanks for the stats.

I think I am going to have to take things alittle bit easier as I keep getting quite painful sensations in my lower abdomen, it could just be stretching but I do think I am over doing it.. as still lifting things that need to be moved up and down the stairs etc..(boxes) . Just bought a new VAX toaday which I have had to carry, luckily one of my neighbours saw me getting out of the car with it and took it off me, bless him..

Not doing anything NYE ds will be in bed and DD and I will just watch TV or a dvd, we may watch the new year in but not sure will see how tired we are. Just remembered today that DH had to work last NYE so this is the second inas many years we couldnt be together .. at least he will be home soon... yeahhhhhh

earlyriser · 30/12/2006 09:52

oh cazzybabs i'm so sorry to hear your news, thinking of you at this rotten time. lots of hugs and positive vibes for next time.

AwayInAMeadow · 30/12/2006 10:18

twoplus - definitely take it easy ye girl ye. Lifting boxes!!!! I had a horrible dream last night that vI started to bleed. HAve been so anxious about getting my scan and seeing the baby moving about and real. Finally got the date yesterday - 12th January, so only a couple of weeks to go and then i can finally explain to people why I have suddenly stopped dieting and turned into an emotional wreck.

Caz - what a selfish cow of a Mil! If poss, block her existance out of your mind and concentrate on your beautiful little life growing inside you.

Hi to everyone!

twoplusone · 30/12/2006 11:23

Trying to sort the house out today it just isnt happening, ds is running round like a lunatic and I am absoloutly knackered...

Ds has started singing the song "Down Town" which is really cute even though they are the only words he knows.

emmyb · 30/12/2006 12:15

Dear All, Hiya not been on for ages but trying to keep up. Went for scan on Thurs and saw little one wriggling about. Not what i expected though as the nurse did a measurement of the nuchal trancluscency and all waas not well it is thicker than normal. So we are high risk of DS. Decided to go for a CVS and am booked in on Tues. Feeling more positive today thats why I am able to post. Was very down yesterday. im s8888ting myself about the risk of mc but even more about the results. I went for CVS instaed of amnio due to the results coming sooner because we have decided to terminate if positive. It seems so real when Im writing this Im fighting back the tears. They worked it out its 1 in 79 chance of being DS thats 1.2% so doesnt sound too bad. But they also said that it could indicate heart defects so even if negative for DS will still need investigation for heart. Im so sorry if this makes people nervous I m sure everyone will be fine but i just needed to type.

twoplusone · 30/12/2006 13:48

emmyb- try and keep positive hun until you have the answers, I know this is easier said than done.. thinking of you.xx
DOn't know if I am having a nuchal fold, not sure if they do them here. I refused it with ds as it didnt make a difference then. I know it would make a difference this time as I will have a toddler aswell to look after..

Having scan on tuesday so will find out then if they do them.

Becks08 · 30/12/2006 18:44

Hello everyone, I'm new to all this and useless on a computer so apologies in advance. I'm due July 2nd so 14 weeks on Monday. After 3 miscarriages though I still can't relax but hopefully fingers crossed all will keep going well. Had a scan at 9weeks which was reassuring and got the anatomy scan booked in for the 20th Feb. Can't wait to find out if its a girl or a boy. Hopefully having the triple test for DS done between weeks 15-17. All a bit scary.

emmyb at my sisters 20 week scan she was told there was a 1 in 200 chance of her baby having edwards syndrome. I'll tell you what I told her.
1 in 200 is the equivalent of half a percent. If someone told you you had half a percent chance of winning the lottery you wouldn't by a ticket would you as the chances would be too small. On the other hand she had 99.5% chance of having a perfectly healthy baby. If she was given thoses odds for the lottery she'd be round the newsagent in no time.( In your case you have a 98.8% of a healthy baby) I know it didn't help her with the decision in front of her.
She decided not to have the amino as it didn't matter if it did have edwards or not. To lower the risk of miscarriage the cons offered her the amino at 32+ weeks so that if it did cause miscarriage at that stage it would be more early labour.
As it happens she had a perfectly healthy baby girl. She had to have tests when she was born but they were all clear.

justbeme · 30/12/2006 19:46

So sorry to hear that things arent as youd expect Emmab - i was just talking to bf today about the tests and saying what would we do if the blood tests came back with concern. I think youre very brave going for the cvs (i think thats what its called - im just getting to grips with all these new names) - 1.2% risk of DS wasnt it? that seems so low though?
Im 38 so worried that i may get a high risk result.
Has any one else had any experience of getting these test results?

justbeme · 30/12/2006 19:48

Whats Edwards Syndrome SnowyTM?

emmyb · 30/12/2006 20:15

thanks Snowy. it sounds so positive when you describe it like the lottery. I feel like that most of the time but keep having little wobbles.

We have just got to take each step as it comes along. I'm just fed up because as soon as Im feeling better from MS another problem crops up.
Last preg was so easy I just took it for granted!!

pulapula · 30/12/2006 21:25

Welcome becks08. We are both due on the same date- 2 july.

I have only had one mc before but feel anxious all the same. I am at the stage now where my queasiness has stopped, i don't feel so tired or hungry and my bump doesn't seem to be growing. I am sure everything is normal but will be nice when i feel those first flutterings. I have a midwife appointment on 8 Jan(for triple test) so guess she may try and listen to the heartbeat too.

Hope everyone is ok, and my thoughts are with cazzybabs.

snowytyphoonsmum · 31/12/2006 09:41

Edwards Syndrome is another one of the trisomy disorders. (Like Downs Syndrome) The children are normally SEVERLY disabled and many don't live past an hour of birth. Most don't normally see their first birthday.
There are three trisomy disorders (where there is three of a certain chromosone instead of two)Downs, Edwards and I'm not sure what the other one is.

Rosylily · 31/12/2006 09:47

just butting in to say HI! to awayinameadow and I've sent you an email

twoplusone · 31/12/2006 13:16

HI all and welcome to the newb people..

I ws feeling sorry for myself earlier, but my neighbours friend has just knocked and invited me and the kids to her house tonight for a party.. I am going to go, hopefully ds will be ok.. saves me sitting in by myself. Feeling low as it is my bday next sunday. which obviously means DH will have been away for xmas-new year and my b-day . 5weeks then he will be home and I am looking to that as much as possible, I thnk once everything has settled after xmas I will feel better. I jyst associate xmas and bdays for you to be around loved ones..

2days to go then i can see babs, cant wait.. I think I may ask someone to come with me (one of the girls I knew in cyrpus) if they arent busy.. I kow it sounds daft but I dont want to go by myself, and I also dont want to go with someone I have know for 5 mins to share this with me.. DD has decided she wants to see the scan now which has made me feel better about everything..

4weeks 6days to go yyyyeeeaaahhhhh

swift1 · 31/12/2006 15:29

Firstly - Firststar, how do you remember all the threads and write a message for everyone - its amazing as these threads are so busy!!

Anyway....... Happy New YEar to everyone, just think how next new year will be with a 5 month old!

All fine with me. Am 14 weeks - although the scan put me at 15 - and finally the sicky feeling has gone HALLELUJAH!!!! Feel quite normal, and am no longer shoving food in my mouth 24/7 which is great as I have already out on a stone!! Am in maternity clothes already, although this time round the weight is only going on my belly, not my arse and legs like last time. However, when I put my maternity clothes on I automatically look 6 mths gone!

The only complaint I have is being so bloody itchy - all the time. Anyone else go this?

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY NEW YEAR

twoplusone · 31/12/2006 16:27

swift1- have you had the itchiness checked out, I think you should.
i am going to wear my maternity Jeans tonight as normal ones are too uncomfortable I to look 5-6months gone in them..... DH in for a shock when he gets back. I am 12weeks tommorrow.. Maybe this will change when I have my scan on Tuesday... My maternity tops are far to big for the moment...atleast I can grow into something..

Happy New Years eve to you all and speak to you in the New Year...
xx

justbeme · 31/12/2006 17:45

Just to Say Happy New Year to everyone - Gosh our lives are going to change in 2007 arent they?

izzzie · 31/12/2006 18:01

happy new year's eve everyone
my boiler has chosen this evening to pack up. fortunately there is still hot water but no central heating. hurrah! and i was just thinking it might not be so bad having a cosy night in.
DH, who is away skiing with DSS. (leaving me all on my own, boo!) was snappy and unsympathetic on the phone, cue major hormonal tantrum from me...
got my mum coming round for quiet dinner. guess we'll both be wearing lots of jumpers!
hope everyone has a nice time tonight...

snowytyphoonsmum · 01/01/2007 09:17
