April 2016 babies - 20-week scans, growing bumps and little kicks!

Hi all,

I've started a new thread to take us up to the third trimester.

Hope you are all feeling well. I feel like my bump is a little small and I'm not feeling lots of movement (but this may be due to an anterior placenta). Got my 20-week scan tomorrow so not long to wait to see if everything's ok - it's actually nearly 22 weeks though as baby really wasn't playing ball when we went last week and was hiding with its back to the scanner.

Getting excited that I'm halfway there though...

Tesco also do maternity clothes. It's the same stuff sold in the Target stores in the US. I don't rate it though. Gap is good but their stuff is so so plain with so much of it being short sleeved.

brookeberry · 11/12/2015 16:26

How's everyone getting on with feeling movement? I'm 22 weeks with DC1 and been having little pops and titches for a week or so and today - nothing! I know I shouldn't worry, but it doesn't take much does it?! I think this always happens after I have a scan - I feel full of confidence for around 12 days and then . . . . . Confused

Hope everyone is doing well Smile

brookeberry · 11/12/2015 16:27

twitches !

KnitsBakesAndReads · 12/12/2015 08:55

Congratulations on your scan April, glad everything looked okay.

Poppy, I definitely recommend H&M maternity clothes. I have a pair of their jeans which are lovely but a bit pricey (about £30 I think). Their tops are pretty reasonably priced though, I got a couple of nice ones for about £7 or £8 each. I really need a new coat, none of mine will fasten over my bump now!

brooke, I'm 23 weeks now and have been feeling proper movements (like little kicks rather than just bubbles) for just over a week. Bump had a really quiet day yesterday and I was starting to worry but by the evening he was a bit more active again. I think the more I'm moving about during the day the quieter he is. I've heard that up to about 28 weeks it's normal not to feel movements every day or not to have any regular pattern of movements. If you're worried though maybe give your midwife a call?

brookeberry · 13/12/2015 14:10

Thanks knits. You're absolutely right. I did have a quiet day which was followed by a day of much more activity (when lying down in the evening). I'm almost 23 weeks and I think I'm feeling a little more activity in general, but I won't worry if I have a quiet day.

I'm off shopping tomorrow for maternity leggings/jeans. Even my big sized leggings are feeling too tight! I'll check out H & M.

Hope everyone is dong well Smile

FatimaLovesBread · 13/12/2015 16:43

With DD1 I had an anterior placenta and didn't feel much properly till about 22 weeks. With this one I've been feeling bubbles since about 15/16 weeks and proper kids from about 20. I'm 24 weeks on Tuesday and on an evening it's like it's trying to break out of my tummy. Definitely a lot earlier than last time. But then again my bump is huge this time.

I know I mentioned the h&m jeans up thread but today I wore some asos skinny maternity jeans and they're not where near as good as the H&m ones. I kept having to hoist them up.

Last time I bought 2 pairs of h&m jeans both about £30. I sold them on eBay and d got £13 for one pair and £24.50 for the other!! Shock so not a bad investment

I also need a coat, let me know if you find one knits

Oopsnumber3 · 13/12/2015 19:31

What's the inside leg of the h&m jeans? Their website doesn't say and Google has turned up nothing either.

helensburgh · 13/12/2015 19:38

I went into H and M with high hopes but everything in store was long length!

pingoose · 13/12/2015 20:07

fatima I sent the ASOS jeans straight back - not a good fit at all! I'm loving the Topshop maternity Joni jeans, just as comfy as the non-maternity version.

How's everyone's weight gain (if you don't mind me asking!)? I found this calculator, I'm wondering if it is correct? www.kidspot.com.au/birth/pregnancy-weight-gain-calculator

5madthings · 13/12/2015 21:05

My h&m jeans were £24:99 they had loads in my h&m including one pair that were £50!! No way am I paying that for maternity jeans.

Re length I am a short arse and they are long on me but if needed I turn up a bit. Generally I tuck them into boots. I can get the tape measure out tomorrow and measure them. My h&m must have had about 15 diff styles of maternity jeans.

This baby is so wriggly and my placenta is anterior, so heaven knows what it would be like if it was posterior. Am almost 24wks and you can see my bump move when laying down etc. I have really popped out this week so need to take another bump picture.

No Idea on weight gain bur other than my boobs and bump I think the rest of me is about the same. I normally gain about two stone in pregnancy or a bit less but don't pay too much attention tbh.

PurplePoppy17 · 13/12/2015 23:06

I bought two pairs of over the bump jeans from new look, I'm forever having to pull them up big still s hell of a lot more comfy than normal jeans or leggings. I like having some sort of support over my bump.

Baby wriggles like mad, it's forever kicking and nudging me. It's really nice, although it can keep me up. OH just loves to see it move Nd respond to his hands ect. It's lovely to see them bond already. Amazing.

I haven't weighed myself since being pregnant, and I definitely don't intend too. Hmm I've really been fussed on my weight ect, I'm always a comfy 10/12 so I never see the point in weighing. If I started if likely get obsessed. Ha!!

PurplePoppy17 · 14/12/2015 14:37

This is my bump at 22 weeks... Let me see your bumpies ladies Smile

suffolkblonde29 · 14/12/2015 20:34

Ooh my bump isn't quite as impressive yet PurplePoppy17 but it's definitely got a bit bigger today! I did bring myself to get on the scales this morning though and have put on about 15-16 pounds - eek! Have no idea if that's normal or not? I didn't get sick and have been eating more than normal so it's not surprising really...just hope I won't have too much to lose afterwards!

Does anyone else have an anterior placenta? Mine is right in front of the baby and although I feel a few movements every day I would have hoped to feel more by now (23 weeks). I can't wait to really feel it moving all the time as at the moment I still find it hard to believe there's really a baby in there....

KnitsBakesAndReads · 15/12/2015 00:34

oops, I'm not sure what the measurements are for the H&M jeans but I'm about 5'5" and they fit me about right, maybe about an inch too long but still a nice fit.

pimgoose, I've put on about a stone so far, which according to the link you posted is too much, eeek! But, I did ask my midwife about it last week and she said there aren't any NHS guidelines about how much you should gain. They just advise you to eat healthily and the only measurement they worry about is your bump size, not your overall weight gain.

I'm a bit worried that I'll end up putting on loads more weight though as I'm just starving all the time. I'm trying to have healthy snacks when I'm hungry but eating an apple or tangerine just doesn't really feel enough to stop me being hungry. I'm making sure I walk regularly in the hope that the exercise might limit my future weight gain. I was a size 10-12 pre-pregnancy and I feel like most of my weight gain is on bump and boobs so maybe I'm worrying too much.

suffolk, I was told I have an anterior placenta too. I feel the baby move quite a bit now, but it's only in certain areas of my tummy which I guess means I can't feel the movements in the area that's covered by the placenta. I'm 24 weeks now and I've noticed movements a lot more over the last couple of weeks.

Love the bump pic poppy, I'll try to post mine tomorrow. I feel huge for 24 weeks though so you'll all have to promise not to laugh at me! Blush

Oopsnumber3 · 15/12/2015 17:19

People put weight on in different ways too. I tend to put a stone on early and then nothing for ages, followed by a stone or so at the end. Imo, if you're hungry then you should eat (and whatever it is that you need). We've enough to deal with in pregnancy without being starving too! First pg I put on 2.5st, second one 2st and I'm hoping to keep it to 2st again. The weight was gone in 6 weeks though, my babies are dysons and suck it straight out of me! My body still looks crap though even if the pounds aren't on the scales, as everything kind of deflates and looks saggy. That takes much longer to sort out.

Re the h&m jeans, I'm 6 feet tall and usually take a 36" inside leg. For skinnies it matters less as I'll be wearing them with boots but I can't get away with anything less than a 33" without it getting uncomfortable. Ladies with tape measures please can you give them a measure? Thanks Smile

MazzleDazzle · 15/12/2015 17:21

I'm starving all the time too. Really craving carbs! The idea of eating anything green makes me want to hurl. It's my 3rd, so I'm not too bothered as I know I can lose the weight afterwards. Don't want to get on the scales though Blush.

I also have an anterior placenta. These last couple of weeks I've really started to feel proper thwacks. I'm now 23 + 4. This baby is a kicker! The last two weren't.

I will post a bump pic soon. I definitely won't be laughing KnitsBakesAndReads - I'm huge too!

Oopsnumber3 · 15/12/2015 19:46

And that's at 21 weeks... I will definitely be part of the Planet Sized Posse Grin

crumblybiscuits · 16/12/2015 11:55

Bump at 21 weeks. I lost 10lbs in the first few months and now at almost 22 weeks I have put about 6 of that back on. Started to watch what I'm eating a bit more though now that I'm not sickly.

Anyone else bloody ravenous though? And so exhausted. Don't remember being this tired with DD1.

crumblybiscuits · 16/12/2015 11:57

I am off to the midnight showing of Star Wars tonight. Wondering if I can take my pregnancy pillow or not as I will surely be asleep 10 mins in Grin

MrWriter · 16/12/2015 12:28

Wow crumbly you're brave, I'm asleep most nights by 10!

Want2bSupermum · 16/12/2015 14:50

I am exhausted all the time and eating all the time. I have taken to eating carrots, celery and cucumber because I am trying to keep my weight down. I have gained 11lbs and I know from here it all goes downhill. I have my glucose test during the week between Christmas and New Year. I pray I pass it.

I have no idea how many weeks I am along now. Work has been crazy and I am trying to push through as much as possible before work kicks off in January. Work have been understanding but I have realized that this year, if I want to take 6 months off, I won't qualify for the pension contribution as I won't have 1000 hours. I am now frantically trying to get those hours in and I am thinking to go FT in Feb and March so I hit the required hours. It will also help with my maternity pay as I get full pay for part of my leave.

brookeberry · 16/12/2015 15:51

I have the h&m jeans skinny jeans on right now! Thanks for the tip knits. They fit really well. I'm 5' 6'' and the inside leg is about 31''.

Hmmm I tend to be guilty of eating want I fancy, just a big mix. I couldn't eat salad or greens at all until very recently so I'm glad that's back now. It was all carbs before then (with plenty of fruit!). I'm 22 + 4 and I think I'm in the normal feeling phase before the 3rd trimester hits.

PurplePoppy17 · 16/12/2015 21:27

I know it's not anything to do with what we're all talking about but I've just had my hair cut and dyed and feel like a new woman!! It's been 6+ months since I had it dyed last, I didn't realise how much I needed it done. I feel so much happier. I'd very much recommend treating yourself by getting a new hair style if you've been feeling low like I have. Smile

Want2bSupermum · 16/12/2015 22:00

Oh I need to get my hair done so badly. I need it coloured so badly but my obn said its not recommended. I take their recommendations as things to do rather than things to pick from.

brooke I am dreading the 3rd trimester. I am starting to get big and I got horrible SPD with my first two pregnancies. So far the massages have been working well but I am worried I am going to be extremely tired starting in January.

KnitsBakesAndReads · 16/12/2015 22:32

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's permanently hungry. I thought I was just being greedy... I've also been starting to feel much more tired lately too, I even fell asleep during the relaxation bit in my pregnancy yoga class recently! Hoping I didn't snore and embarrass myself in front of everyone else! Blush

Hope you enjoy Star Wars crumbly. I definitely don't think I could stay awake in a dark cinema past midnight!

Glad you like the H&M jeans brooke. Pretty much my entire maternity clothes wardrobe is H&M as they're one of the few shops that actually have maternity clothes in store.

I know what you mean about a haircut or something as a treat poppy. I went for a lovely pregnancy massage recently which was amazing. I felt so much better after it. Will have to book another one sometime after Christmas.
