April 2016 babies - 20-week scans, growing bumps and little kicks!

Hi all,

I've started a new thread to take us up to the third trimester.

Hope you are all feeling well. I feel like my bump is a little small and I'm not feeling lots of movement (but this may be due to an anterior placenta). Got my 20-week scan tomorrow so not long to wait to see if everything's ok - it's actually nearly 22 weeks though as baby really wasn't playing ball when we went last week and was hiding with its back to the scanner.

Getting excited that I'm halfway there though...

If you buy the right pushchair and get the good of it, then resale value isn't that important, but it might matter more if you don't like it, or you don't use it as often as you planned.

Do you mind me asking why you didn't like the City Select Want2B? We hired a City Elite on holiday once for our toddler and I fell in love with it. The only reason I didn't buy it was because I wasn't keen on any of the colour combos and it was a bit on the bully side for our hallway.

I would love a Bee, but I've heard too many reports that it's a bit on the flimsy side. Perfect if you live in a flat in the city, but as we don't I couldn't justify it. If I see a second hand one at a decent price I might be tempted though.

Whoever said that no buggy is perfect is spot on. I think the manufacturers do it on purpose!

ComeLuckyApril · 21/12/2015 20:53

We went for the Mamas and Papas Armadillo Flip XT too! Just noticed some of the matching accessories are on sale now so I might get some of those :) I really liked the feel of it, and I think it will be a good one for us to use on the bus as well as walking. I like that it's not too heavy but doesn't feel flimsy either.

crumblybiscuits · 21/12/2015 22:44

Ooh Come what colour did you get? We went with the navy as I like the tan handle! I love how versatile it is as I live in the city but spend a lot of time in the woods and going over rough terrain.

helensburgh · 21/12/2015 23:09

We have a quinny buzz from 8 years ago.
Needs new tyres but kept it " just in case"

5madthings · 21/12/2015 23:14

Ooh pushchair shopping!

I agree re looking secondhand and thst there often isn't one perfect pushchair.

When we had ds1(16) we got a britax trio travel system... It had won loads of awards yada yada.. Then got a maclaren stroller, and a cheap three wheel pushchair, oh and a chicco pushchair that broke within three months! When ds2 was one we got a bugaboo frog, I still have it so it's twelve years old. It's orange and has carrycot, seat unit, raincoat etc and all in good condition as the covers can all go in the wash etc. It has taken a beating over four kids and has been sat in wardrobe for a couple of years now so will need good clean. I couldn't get rid of it as it felt like part of the family.... Blush and looking forward to using it again.

Also have an instep nipper 360 which is good for off road, beach, running etc that I will use once baby is bigger for running. Am a bit of a sling fan as well so will carry baby a lot.

If I could treat myself I like the bugaboo buffalo, and also a really nice BOB running stroller. I quite like the look of some of the old fashioned style silver cross prams as well... But not hugely practical though Ok if you walk everywhere.

I do walk a lot and will be walking school run, eight miles a day until baby is big enough for bike seat. So my pushchair is a workhorse and it will go on buses, trains etc.

Am off to look at the ones that have been mentioned... Just for fun!

Want2bSupermum · 22/12/2015 04:17

I'm trying to get my hands on a Danish pram. I'm in a very walkable town and rarely drive. A proper old skool pram is more suitable for me this time.

ComeLuckyApril · 22/12/2015 09:19

I went for teal - I love how bright it is, and I wanted to get something that people wouldn't think was especially bought for a boy or girl. The navy is really smart looking, though! Same reasons on the versatility here - we have woods near us and a local area to walk around, but I'll be getting the bus into the city centre all the time too.

FatimaLovesBread · 22/12/2015 09:32

We've still got the Baby jogger city mini from DD but we've bought a BJ versa for this one. Reminds me I need to check when it's due to be delivered.

brookeberry · 22/12/2015 14:20

Ooh fab, I really need some help on this one for DC1, I haven't a clue what I'm looking at in the shops!

We're lucky in that my parents want to treat us to the travel system Smile. Do any come out on top? I'm more of a country girl - walks up lanes, and easily in and out of the car would be good. Any particular recommendations?

PurplePoppy17 · 22/12/2015 16:49

Does anyone have an Icandy? Also I'm thinking of a maxi cosi car seat with isofix base if anyone has any reviews? I'm going for red, just for something different. Not a fan of the same old black everywhere.

Want2bSupermum · 22/12/2015 17:24

brooke I would go to the store and look at the strollers with foam filled tires and the bugaboo range. After you narrow down the field to this fold them all. Anything that is at all tricky to fold strike it off the list. This should leave you with 1 or 2 strollers. Country lanes are not an issue IME. What is an issue is getting the damn thing in and out of the car. Anything cumbersome to fold should be excluded from your list. What is cumbersome to fold for one person is easy to fold for another. Take your OH there to fold too. Both of you will be using it.

5madthings · 22/12/2015 17:51

I agree with want for off road you want foam or air tyres, you can get puncture resistant as well. Bugaboo, or three wheel type systems. If three wheel choose one where front wheel can lock for bumpy ground or swivel for in town etc. Phil and teds might be worth a look or mountain buggy as well as bugaboo.

How big is your car and boot?

I may not need a new pushchair but was just looking at bike trailers the croozer ones you can get a baby hammock for little babies.. School run is two miles on flat smooth roads so am thinking may invest in one as then I can cycle rather than walk. It's a fifteen min cycle but a good forty min walk. I was resigned to walking until baby was bigger and could gp in bike seat but this may solve my problem! Have used a trailer before but not til madthings were ten months plus. It looks like technology has moved on somewhat and you can now attach the special hammock or use a first stage carseat in a trailer. The hammocks look cosier and more supportive and baby can even lie flat!. I wouldn't cycle off road or on really long or bumpy journeys with a little one but for the school run it could be perfect. Dh is impressed by them as well so will need no convincing which is good as they aren't cheap.

Frankie72 · 22/12/2015 18:01

Can I join?? Due start of April!

I'm going for the silver cross pioneer... My parents offered and they requested I go for a silver cross (foster carers, 35 new born babies through the door to date!) it's also a very lovely pram!! :-)

MazzleDazzle · 22/12/2015 18:36

I had an icandy Purple. I really liked using it and certainly got the good of it. It was very difficult to fold, especially in the beginning. Got the hang of it in the end though. Have since had a Bugaboo and definitely prefer it, but there's not much in it.

MazzleDazzle · 22/12/2015 18:42

One of my best pushchair buys was a telescopic McLaren for the car. It was £8 from a car boot sale!

Oopsnumber3 · 22/12/2015 20:13

I have an ICandy peach three wheeler purple and I love it. It's heavy but a piece of piss to steer and a great off roader. I'm currently lending it to a friend as I have Phil & ted's sport which is good off road too and means I can transport both kids at once.

PurplePoppy17 · 22/12/2015 21:19

Thanks! I think me and OH will goin a try out a few. I wanted the silver cross fit a start but then was told that these days all your paying for is the name, a bit like hunter wellies... Many years ago they were the best wellies out. Now a days the brand name has become hugely popular, so they have upped in price and downed in quality. Not sure if this is true about silver cross but I know it is about hunter wellies. Ha!!

KnitsBakesAndReads · 22/12/2015 22:05

Welcome Frankie! I think there are a few of us due in early April. Sounds like your parents are good authorities to recommend a pram with all that experience!

It's great reading everyone's recommendations for prams. I think I'm going to need to try a few out in Mothercare to see which one feels like it'll suit us best.

I did like the Cosatto Giggle 2 when I saw that (partly because it's quite reasonably priced compared to some) but then I saw they had to recall a previous model because it kept collapsing and that's really put me off the brand. Back to the drawing board I guess!

brookeberry · 23/12/2015 12:34

Thanks for the advice Want2b Sounds good and yes I think the best way is to try a few out in store.

5 I have a golf - the boot isn't huge, but I hope I would get a pram in there.

Welcome Frankie Smile

Want2bSupermum · 23/12/2015 14:18

The mountain buggy nano is awesome as is the bugaboo bee and frog. All good on country lanes and can fit easily in a golf boot (my old car!).

Frankie Welcome! Congratulations too.

Kent1986 · 24/12/2015 21:39

Mothercares sale has started which includes prams Wink

I'm expecting my first on April 5th. Apart from a few weeks of morning sickness, and general pregnancy 'symptoms' like heart burn I have been sailing through pregnancy and really enjoying it - until 2 days ago!! I can only describe it as pelvic 'stiffness' ?! I feel like my legs have been pulled off and popped back in but not quite in right. I seem to cease up if I sit or lay, but if I stay on my feet too long I need to sit Down - if anyone has any experience in this please let me know ! I'm hoping it will pass of its own accord in a few days as its very unpleasant and in general I'm quite active so didn't want to slow down too much just yet.

KnitsBakesAndReads · 24/12/2015 23:35

Oooh, hadn't realised Mothercare's sale had started so early. Will have to check it out.

I've had something similar to what you're describing, Kent. I definitely find that sitting or lying still often makes it worse as my joints get very stiff. For me when it first started I could hardly move for days but it has definitely improved over time so it might be that yours improves with time too.

I've also been seeing a physio. She's given me some gentle exercises that really seem to help. She also said that it's best to stay active if possible but that you should avoid anything that causes more severe pain. I'd definitely recommend asking for a referral to a physio if your symptoms don't improve soon.

Other things that have helped me include putting a hot water bottle or heat pad on my lower back, getting a pregnancy pillow so I'm more comfortable at night, trying to walk every day to avoid my joints getting stiff, and going to a pregnancy yoga class.

Also, Merry Christmas everyone. Hope you all have a lovely Christmas Day filled with family, presents, tasty food and a glass or two of (possibly non-alcoholic) bubbly!

Oopsnumber3 · 25/12/2015 16:17

Kent it might be SPD. It would be worth telling your midwife as it can get really bad. I ignored it with first and really suffered. With my second I got physio and she support and it really helped. So far so good with number 3, just a bit of low level pain but if it gets worse I'll be getting a referral.

Oopsnumber3 · 28/12/2015 13:23

Did someone start a new thread and skank me? Where is everyone?!

KnitsBakesAndReads · 28/12/2015 15:07

I was wondering the same thing oops. Can't believe how quiet this thread is compared to most other months. Is April an unpopular month for babies, or are April mums-to-be just less chatty?

Did you have a good Christmas?
