Cheers Maisie, feel a bit less thick now! Smile

I guess I've been having BH for a week or so too then- abdomen goes rock hard for a couple of minutes, no associated pain/cramp/discomfort at all though so had assumed it wasn't them!

haquoi123 · 24/11/2015 17:20

monk I had to ring my stepmum while looking in confusion at the baby aisle in sainsburys so you're not the only one. She told me essentially the same thing as maisie. I babysat both of my baby sisters, dressed them, etc. and still didn't have a clue!

clara I've got a sort of under-bump ache that I can't work out if it's pelvic pain or bump pain. I think it's ligaments but feels stitchy. My braxton hicks are similar to maisie's, bit of discomfort, hard bump, maybe a little crampy but more of less painless and I'll have a few if I don't sit down and rest.

mad I properly 'awwwed' at your baby - I felt a bit tearful from cuteness overload! What a beautiful pic! And you've given some insight into what my lil rascal has been up to (he's rapidly running out of room and protesting a lot).

sighing really hope you're feeling less on edge, that sounds like one hell of a fall. Did you get through to the midwives?

We went to see hunger games last night - I felt so sorry for the baby, I kept jumping and squashing him with my hands. I also managed to eat an entire packet of haribo to myself - suffice to say his sugar rush last well into the night

hacquoi haribo is pretty much medicinal for me. At the first sign of stress in the NHS someone buys the haribo. It's beyond appalling - thank god my GTT was ok.

I missed the fall bit. If your bump isn't bruised etc it's probably alright but I am sure midwives would check if you are worried.everything becomes that bit more frightening - I protect my bump in shops cos I'm convinced someone is going to ram me with a trolley.

I'm worried I may be too laid back about clothes. Have vests, baby grows, a couple of cardigans and an outdoor all in one thing (that looks like a monster) working on principle I can get other stuff when I know for sure the sex and have seen what stuff I am bombarded with.

I figure I can layer up to get home from hospital. I'm not horribly deluded am I ?

CalypsoLilt · 24/11/2015 18:54

Rule of thumb for babies is that they need to wear one more layer than us. But they'll soon tell you if they're too hot or cold!!

Also no outdoor snow suit type things when baby is in car. They'll overheat.

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 24/11/2015 18:58

I had my son in snow suits loads and he never overheated in the car. Perhaps the suits weren't that thick and it was Winter and my car is old 😜

jellypi3 · 24/11/2015 19:05

what sizes are people buying? I have bought some 0-1mth vests and baby grows, but ive also got a couple of new born too, im not sure what the best size is? I've got 3 new born vests and baby grows, is that too few?

jellypi3 · 24/11/2015 19:06

Also i thought the car advice with snow suits and coats was less to do with overheating and more to do with the fact that a padded jacket will absorb the shock of an impact instead of the chair, and increase the risk of harm to the baby?

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 24/11/2015 19:32

Place marking.

Laptop and phone are being major PITA this week.

New GP made me feel like a crack head, and called me "very silly" Sad Angry She got very short shrift from me. Informed her that I had 3 different GPs confirm my research that the safe dose was 250, and being as I only take 50, it wasnt a concern. Peri Natal Psych have confirmed the same, as has MW and Consultant. Horrible GP, shes on my shit list and I wont see her again. Meds are back on repeat for 12 months anyway. Patronising cow.

Off to catch up with you all!

Troika · 24/11/2015 19:44

Grr till, how annoying. My mw told me off for "choosing" not to have the whooping cough vaccine, when the truth is the practice nurse told me I couldn't have it as I'm allergic to one of the ingredients!

Madsaz honestly that is all a newborn needs! I only have vests babygros and cardigans.

Calypso I also saw mw yesterday and am measuring exactly 28 weeks. Funny as thelast bump pic you put up I had bump envy!

Troika · 24/11/2015 19:46

I think the thing with padded clothing and car seats is that it will compress in an accident meaning the straps will be too loose and may not restrain baby.

Troika · 24/11/2015 19:51

Jelly it's so hard to say, everyone says don't buy much newborn stuff as it doesn't last but dc1 was in it til 3/4 months and had tiny baby stuff to begin with despite being 7lb. I still have tiny baby, newborn and 0-3 stuff and will wait and see which fits when she gets here. I suspect she'll be a little bigger than the other two were.

Rufus200 · 24/11/2015 19:59

madsaz very cute pic

arrow I can't stand condescending medical professionals, particuarly when it becomes clear they don't know what they are talking about! I completely respect the nice ones and the extremely knowledgable ones but have encountered a large amount that don't fit into either of those groups!

At some point I will post a pic of the 4 large overflowing boxes of baby clothes I have. I am officially hoarding baby clothes now. Tkmaxx is brilliant for sets that have 5-7 items in them for the cost of one baby grow in most shops.

I am now stepping on a cat's tail at least once a day. I can't see my own feet so have no chance of seeing a tail swished in my path! My elderly arthritic cat who lies in the middle of the stairs is getting it most. One of the others tripped me up going up stairs the other day, managed to land on my hands which were full of clothes. I screamed blue murder at him.

There are so many deals on Amazon tomorrow, half my baby wish list seems to be on there! Price discounts aren't released until the sale time but so far has been 25-50% off regular price on things I've bought. There is a maxi cosi cabriofix tomorrow, tommee tippee set, jumperoo, sangenic cassettes and so much more. You can view tomorrow's sale items today but just not see the sale price.

jellypi3 · 24/11/2015 20:00

i need to get more clothes i think, just baby grows and vests. So many people have said don't buy clothes but i've got next to nothing.

I'm keeping an eye on the amazon stuff, deals look good!

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 24/11/2015 20:04

This will be my 3rd winter baby. I do layers - long sleeved vest/bodysuit, tights, sleepsuit/babygrow, cardigan, hat for going out in, whether its car seat/pram/sling. Car seat and pram I layer with blankets. Sling - each layer of sling counts as a layer so between 3-5 depending on type plus your body heat. Maxi Cosi do car seat footmuffs (or they did last time I had baby) which are safe to use. I have the raincover on the pram to protect from the horrid winter winds too. I usually keep 3-5 blankets in the pram. I am a bit really neurotic about keeping them warm enough. I predict I will be checking the back of babies neck every 5 mins when out and about, exactly like I did with the others Grin Im terrible.

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 24/11/2015 20:11

"Youll not be breastfeeding then" she also said. ODFOD. Out of 250mg, 0.1% gets in the milk. So on a 50mg dose, what gets through?! Pffft. I researched all sorts before I even had the coil out, and had SIL, who is a NICU nurse, ask at work for me.

I think I have 18 sleepsuits, 18 vests and some funky leggings from h&m. DSis has bought LOADS.

madsaz76 · 24/11/2015 20:18

Thanks for advice all. The furry monster thing isn't padded so will see if it fits closely or not - I definitely have blankets too.

I have been a right moany git recently but realised tonight that there are few greater pleasures in life than lying for too long in the bath while baby kicks Grin

Sighing · 24/11/2015 20:34

I'm holding off buying vests and bodysuits (though I have some) my SIL had a baby a few weeks ago and is looking to send things our way Grin
Everything seems ok. She was sympathetic but unconcerned. I'm being kicked but the fear is there. I got a lot of knitting done. Next for a bath!

Troika · 24/11/2015 20:43

Till me too. General rule is one more layer but don't forget if you are active (eg walking) you will be warmer than a baby who is just lying in a pram.

I never forgave xh for the time he took dd for a walk when it was -2 and icy outside. I'd wrapped her up in layers (vest, babygro, cardy, coat, blanket, footmuff) and he brought her back in just babygro and footmuff because he'd had to change her, got poo in her vest, she was wriggling too much to put cardy and coat back on and he forgot the blanket. Meanwhile he had thick jumpers, coat, hat, scarf, gloves on and had walked the half hour back while she just sat in buggy. Took me ages to warm her up Angry

Troika · 24/11/2015 20:45

What a relief sighing. Just watch out for that pesky bath side when you have your bath!

Troika · 24/11/2015 20:53

Cloth users I have gone through my size ones and I have some wraps that I have no recollection of buying or using and that I don't need. So if anyone wants them I'm happy to send them out to you. I think they were probably second hand to me but still look in pretty good condition. They're cotton bottoms ones, plain white, Velcro fastening, leg gusset bits...four of them I think.

CalypsoLilt · 24/11/2015 21:01

Oooooh yes please troika!!! I'm always looking to build my stash!!! (Hides 30 nappies under cot)

MaisieDotes · 24/11/2015 21:32

madsaz that's so sweet- what you said about the baby kicking in the bath Smile

Troika · 25/11/2015 06:30

They're yours Calypso Smile
Hopefully they work OK or I'll feel bad! I think they can be used with prefolds, terries, or shaped nappies.

Can you pm me your address?

The box is a bit buried at the moment as I have emptied dds bedroom into the airing cupboard (long story!) but I'll dig them out again asap.

RattyCatty · 25/11/2015 07:12

Tilltook what's the back of the baby neck temp thing? I know nothing!

I'm v far behind on getting stuff - hoping to get my arse into gear in school holidays... Can't believe we are nearly there!!!

NorthernChinchilla · 25/11/2015 07:32

It's where you're meant to feel them to judge their temp ratty - think it's meant to be the most accurate place.

Troika, my Dad and Grandfather did similar to me and my mother never forgave them!

Sounds immensely annoying and patronising till. You'd think they'd know the very basics of what goes into breastmilk. Hopefully you won't have to see that GP again.

I've bought new in newborn size jelly, only as I didn't have any before. Pack of seven little 'bodies', four sleep suits. One OMG soooo adorable little pair of dungarees for best. That's it, and she'll have all her brother's stuff from 0-3 upwards.
