Also, about car seats.

My brother has given me his old maxi cosi group 0+ car seat, but has kept his base. From checking out john lewis online, it appears I can buy a 'family fix' base and that means that once the baby has outgrown the 0+ car seat, I could buy a "Pearl" group 1 car seat and still use the same 'family fix' base. There doesn't seem to be any other option if I go down the maxi cosi route.

So, question, has anyone else gone for maxi cosi and are they a good manufacturer (I'm guessing so if my brother went for it - he does his research!)?

In particular, do any of the current mummies use the "Pearl"?

It seems it only useable with the family fix base until around age 4 then I'd need to look at a new system (but who knows, I might have another wee baby by then who can use the maxi cosi system haven't even got this one out of my fanny yet Blush)

clarabellski · 27/11/2015 09:05

p.s. sorry for flooding the thread with posts but should have added that above system would fit in our car (vauxhall meriva)

haquoi123 · 27/11/2015 09:11

Haha clara you make me laugh! I'm already panicking about the next pregnancy (dh's eyebrows are permanently skywards). Can't say on the car seats, sorry, but it seems that maxi cosi has a really good reputation. I've only not looked at it properly as we were trying to find ways of saving money on car seats (might give up now though and do some research)

Shined a light on my belly last night and bubs definitely followed it around with his hands. Tried the same this morning for daddy, and nothing. Typical baby, he knows when I'm getting him to perform.

clara maxi-cosi are pretty much the best you can get, you can get others as good but there wouldn't really be anything better out there.

I'm not sure what DS's is called but I had a look on the website and it seems to be the Pearl! He's been in it since about 10 months as he was a big baby and outgrew the cabriofix a bit early. He's 15 months now and technically we are allowed change it to forward facing but I don't really see the point, apparently they can stay rear-facing in the Pearl up to 4 years so I'm going to leave it for the time being anyway. It's a lovely car seat, comfy and it reclines.

I'd say what will happen is the new baby will go in the Cabriofix for a year, then move to the pearl, at which point DS will be 28 months and can go into a forward facing.

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 27/11/2015 09:39

breastpumps I only know about Medela Symphony unfortunately. It took less than 15 mins to get 9-12oz out. Had a pretty hefty supply in the fridge and freezer! I expressed exclusively from about 4 weeks (various reasons, all boring) through to 12 weeks.

maxi cosi and pretty much any Dorel product (Quinny is theirs too) is awesome.

So baby is approx 2lbs 10oz at 28+3 according to scan, placenta/cord blood flow is brilliant and have good levels of amniotic fluid. Back for another scan on 6th January. Consultant said GP was talking rot about my meds and had no right to speak to me like that, so thats made me feel better.

Off to Mamas and Papas and IKEA this weekend to decide on a pram... Its Bee vs Cameleon vs Crusi... The Bee is my front runner, DH wants Crusi. Will most likely compromise on the Cam Grin

haquoi123 · 27/11/2015 11:05

till that's great news about bubba and really good that your consultant could reassure you. That GP sounds like an arse.

Thanks guys! Maisie my niece is a big girl monster and grew out of her maxi cosi 0+ at 10 months hence why we've fallen heir to it! Very happy as saves us a wee bit of money by the looks of it, by only needing to buy the base. And obviously coming from my brother I know the history of it.

I tried the torch shining trick hacquoi but totally not interested! May need to try it again as it was a couple of weeks ago so maybe not old enough yet...

RattyCatty · 27/11/2015 11:41

Great news on scan whoknew!

Can I ask a movement question? Trying to remain calm at school. Baby moving round lots last night as normal. She is normally much more active in the afternoon and evenings - especially bed time. I have felt almost nothing (a few kicks and movements) so far today & trying not to panic. I'm a worrier so can't help it. Going to have lunch in an hour & see what happens after that? If not I'm going to have to ask school if I can go to hospital to get checked out. Have your babies ever had quiet mornings? I think she is generally quieter in the mornings & perhaps I'm usually more busy so don't think about it as much?

MaisieDotes · 27/11/2015 11:44

Cold cold drink ratty

A sweet one it you can get your hands on it.

monkerina · 27/11/2015 12:20

Mine is normally quiet in the morning and afternoon Ratty, much busier around evening/bedtime. Cold sweet drink (diet coke? orange juice?) will normally get him moving- give it a try?

Really pissed off- we ordered a new chest of drawers for nursery the other day, was wondering what had happened with the delivery so checked online- they say it was delivered a few days ago, with card and emails left. No card, no emails... just got the bins in and found a very soggy box hidden very well down the alley by our house, I can't move it cause it's 40kg and it's about to rain again! Very cross that the nice chest of drawers is about to be further ruined and I'm almost certainly going to have to have a long conversation with the seller about this Angry

Mawsymoo · 27/11/2015 12:22

Ratty if you can sit still with a cold coke do that and see what happens. But yes this has happened me - more so with DS where the placenta was anterior, but yesterday I had a quieter day with this baby. But it was a "different" day for me as I was home with sick DS, so a few times during the day I made myself sit still to see if I could feel a few kicks - which I could. If you don't feel anything after lunch then go and get it checked just to be safe.

I'm off to the hospital this afternoon - it's been nearly 4 weeks since my last appointment due to some unforeseen circumstances which meant I had to cancel my earlier appointment. I'm looking forward to getting baby checked out and hopefully growth is on-track.

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 27/11/2015 13:16

The midwife advised if I was ever worried about a change in the baby's pattern of movement then I should ring them and/ or get myself checked out - which I did on Saturday.

After I was monitored the labour ward midwife said next time I should have a cold drink/ something sugary and if I didn't feel movements within the next hour get it checked out.

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 27/11/2015 13:18

Above post was to Ratty, sorry trying to post on phone and couldn't see everyone's posts.

RattyCatty · 27/11/2015 13:21

Thanks ladies - advice much appreciated. Got myself in a flap & cried at school...! Had av sugary lunch & now monitoring - a few kicks so far so going to continue to count.

monk that is v annoying Envy

Rufus200 · 27/11/2015 16:24

ratty I could barely feel anything for a few days within the last 2 weeks. Baby had turned from back to back to face to spine, so kicks couldn't be felt outwards. This is apparently completely normal until baby is much bigger when it doesn't matter which way they face then you will feel everything. Now my entire abdomen is heaving and moving all on its own. Feet are literally just under my boobs now.

monk that is terrible. I've had some really stupid delivery drivers that blocked my front door with boxes so I couldn't get into my own house. Hermes has locked one of my cats twice in my porch, they ignored my complaint, he was in there for up to 4 hrs on one of the occasions.

haquoi123 · 27/11/2015 17:34

How're things ratty? Did baby move more in the end? I hope you're feeling a little less panicky.

monk that would drive me nuts, how awful! I once had royal mail postie chuck my bag of maternity clothes over our fence and not leave a note. I found them in the garden two days (of heavy rain) later. So cross and tried to complain but the complaints for royal mail is so stupid. I hope you get a refund!

Well I finally bought my pram!! So excited for it to arrive and see if the last two years of research has been worth it!

Also, reusable nappy users, check if your local council does a scheme - I've just signed up for a voucher that gets me £30 quid off at local retailers.

Right, I've got a craving for beer (found a brilliant BrewDog non-alcoholic) and McDonald's fillet o' fish (eek, what is this baby doing to me?!) and I'm bloody well going to satisfy it! Hello weekend!

ratty we had a panic the other week with a quiet baby. Cold drink and lying on my left seemed to work. Normally my bubs is very active, especially in evening. Very frightening - if you are still worried you should get checked.

One of our execs asked me today "have you developed any fetishes yet?"
Quick as a flash I told him I liked being suspended upside down and spanked. He's a bit ginger and therefore blushed. I really need to learn to be less cruel when people are clumsy with words....

RattyCatty · 27/11/2015 19:56

Thanks ladies - she has been more active this evening. Will see if she's up to her usual night movements in bed tonight. Thank you for advice x

Sighing · 27/11/2015 20:41

On the maxicosi - very good reputation but i know a couple of people whose DC have grown out of them to early owing to shoulder width rather than height/weight.

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 27/11/2015 20:57

sighing DD1 was in her Cabriofix till 18 months old Shock But she was tiny, weighed only 16lbs at 12 months old. DD2 was out of the Cabriofix at 10 months old Grin DD1 is in a high back booster and DD2 is still in the toddler seat.

Cabriofix will do us for now, as were car less, but as soon as we have a car I plan to do some research into the new extended rear facing seats.

RattyCatty · 27/11/2015 22:41

rufus lying in bed & tummy doing a few rolls rather than the jabs I've had before. I think maybe you are right & she is no longer back to back? Did you have a scan to know that or are you just super knowledgeable? Smile

Rufus200 · 27/11/2015 23:22

ratty happened to be that my 28 week scan was when a few days after I couldn't really feel him and was told he was in correct position. I had to sit very still and push down on bump and then I could just vaguely feel something in response deep inside. I find it really uncomfortable when he turns, like cogs grinding against each other, so I know each time he has done it. He tried to turn breech this morning when I was still in bed, I used the mattress on oneside and my hands with pressure on the other to stop him. He tried for a good 15 mins before he gave up. I worry that in turning he might damage the placenta at this size, plus I don't want kicks on my bladder, punches are bad enough! I don't know how harmful it is to firmly push on side to stop turning?

goneswimming · 28/11/2015 09:08

Car seat wise, we're planning on getting a maxi cosi milofix, its one of the ones that lasts four years and can be turned forward facing at the appropriate time- but it stays permanently in the car so our compromise for saving on buying a second seat is that I won't be able to clip it onto our travel system.

Sighing · 28/11/2015 15:06

Sorry to not discuss car seats at all. It's just the little leather shoes / boots arrived today (in a dinky shoebox). I keep cooing over them and putting them on my fingers. So cute. Right. I better do some adult ing and tidy or clean!

IslaMann · 28/11/2015 16:35

Went to an as new baby sale this morning. Got a brand new changing mat for £2, 6 newborn vests for £3, 4 hooded towels for £4, and some framed pencil sketches of Winnie the Pooh plus a pooh bear soft toy for £6. Will have a nursery in Jan once DS moves out into uni accommodation (so also bought a huge tub of emulsion so we can decorate it) so now I have my nursery theme. It's nice as when DS was a baby I also had Winnie the Pooh theme so it feels right. Im going to put it all through the wash tomorrow morning so I know it's all fresh. feeling like I'm starting to get a nice little collection of baby stuff now.
