My girls were both apparently small (but not tiny). They were certainly robust as babies Smile .... (mostly I adore their very slightly smaller than average heads ... this one is measuring above average and I'm starting to worry!)

NorthernChinchilla · 11/12/2015 09:21

Rather sore arm, as expected, from the jab but at least it's not made me unwell.
Got my first festive lunch today, then have afternoon/evening meals the next two Mondays.
The big celebration is DS's birthday this weekend, so must do the last bit of wrapping tonight- no rest for the wicked!

MaryEllen1 · 11/12/2015 10:06

Me too chinchilla wasn't expecting it to ache like it does!! But at least it's Friday :)

monkerina · 11/12/2015 10:12

Has anyone else had a call from the health visitors yet? I had a call from them this morning, asking to pop round in mid-Jan- was a bit surprised, hadn't really thought about it but didn't expect to meet them til after the birth!

Hope your house move's going better now Rufus...

Rufus200 · 11/12/2015 10:31

monkerina thanks today is a bit better organised.

Finally got to bed at 2am, stupid cat woke us up at 4am and then spent the next 30 mins try to break the bedroom door down until I eventually gave in and let him back in. DH got up at 6am to go to work. So very little sleep. Currently surrounded by chaos, still no heating or hot water at new house. May have to come back here for a shower tonight. Not quite sure why my mum is being such a psycho about everything having to be out the house by the end of the day as the house never sold. DH and I both didn't understand why we were driving back and forwards till 1am with our clothes last night but after the fight 2 weeks ago with my mum and both of them being civil to each other, we weren't going to argue.

I am so tired and feeling so unmotivated. Currently having a rest on the sofa while furniture is being packed upstairs.

Sighing · 11/12/2015 11:25

Brew you sound like you need one rufus!

haquoi123 · 11/12/2015 11:38

Sounds like a nightmare rufus

Has anyone heard from till recently?

OP posts:
madsaz76 · 11/12/2015 11:39

rufus this does sound rotten.

I think people are just horrible sometimes. Seems cruel for you to be stuck in middle but I'd do the same and try and slog on as quickly as possible.

Re: health visitors - my notes say they come at about 36 weeks. I think it's just to meet you and do a bit more breastfeeding selling. Also an opprunity yo pick up depression or social issues.

Despite knowing all this I have decided it is a slob inspection and am trying to use it as a deadline to sort house out. Sadly rain quantity overwhelmed ducting etc so we have soggy ceilings etc - can't see how plastering and repainting with help me with this deadline. ....

monkerina · 11/12/2015 12:00

Brew Rufus, try to just let the buggers get on with it and ignore them.

I'm also convinced it's a slob inspection, already dreading having to find the motivation to drag the hoover round and make at least living room, kitchen and nursery presentable... they're all OK really, it's just the perceived pressure!

MaisieDotes · 11/12/2015 13:27

Yeah I was just going to say- till how's everything? And mawsy what's the story, how the new house going? Smile

One of DH's closest friends from way back had a baby today at just 34 weeks, he's 4lb 10oz. He'll be fine, right? DH is freaking out but I told him that 34 weeks is only 3 weeks away from term and everything should be absolutely fine. Shouldn't it?

MaisieDotes · 11/12/2015 13:37

On an entirely more trivial note- does anyone else get this thing where they are not hungry but wat because they feel they should and then feel super-hungry after eating? Confused

Also, I just want to say that decaffienated tea is STUPID and as soon as I'm not pregnant it's banned from the house for eternity.

MaisieDotes · 11/12/2015 13:37

But wat? Wat?

eat is what that is meant to say.

Posey01 · 11/12/2015 13:52

Agreed - Decaf tea is rubbish!!! I've swapped to drinking copious amounts of redbush tea instead - isn't the same though.

We have a healthcare coming too in the New Year - it's a new thing they are doing round our way to see how we're 'feeling' as far as I gather.

I've got my work xmas party tonight - I was well up for it until the DH kept me awake snoring as he had his last night - no fair!!

Rufus200 · 11/12/2015 13:55

maisie I know someone who had twins at 32 weeks. She is a neonatal nurse and took them home in under 2 weeks of hospital care, which I was very surprised at. I thought they would be in there for at least a month!

NorthernChinchilla · 11/12/2015 14:04

God maisie, unless you've got a medical reason not to, get back on the caffinated stuff! There's bugger all in tea anyway, and decaf stuff tastes dreadful. I love my morning filter coffer and the 'treat' (ha!) of a Diet Coke.
Baby should be fine by the way- an old friend from way back had a 30 weeker recently, few weeks in special care but fine. Any baby over 30 weeks should be OK, albeit an increased chance of some health issues.

I barely saw the MW last time. Lived in a massively socially deprived area so we were the least of their concerns. Didn't stop both my Mum and Mil trying to insist we had a cleaner in to make sure the baby wasn't rushed off by SS (and both being told to sod off).

Glad your DM and OH are at least being civil rufus.

madsaz76 · 11/12/2015 14:21

I've stopped restricting caffeine so much now. I have horrible sinusitis and can't see how not being able to drink things I like will make a massive difference. Tends to be coke zero or similar.

I'm actually worried I am not eating enough. I would need about 1900 calories to maintain weight then about another 300 a day for baby

Some days I am only managing 1500 cos i feel full quickly and have reflux so have actually taken to warm milk drinks and indulging in stollen. Have a wierd thing where i am starving but don't feel like eating.

For a girl who struggled with weight for years its very bizarre.

clarabellski · 11/12/2015 14:52

Afternoon ladies.

A girl on the March antenatal thread had her little one at around 25 weeks I think and as far as I know he is currently thriving not that I'm stalking the other antenatal threads

I must admit caf tea and decaf tea taste the same to me! We drink a lot of decaf in my house anyway because DH gets that freaky racing heart thing if he drinks too much any caffeine. I've been mainlining caffeine since about the age of 7 so it doesn't affect me!!! Blush

I have no idea how many calories I eat each day but assume its enough because I feel healthy and I seem to be gaining weight steadily each week since hitting 3rd trimester. I've gained 11lb overall now most of which seems to be colostrum, eeewwwwwwww!....I actually saw it coming out of my boob spontaneously last night in the bath (previously I've just seen the evidence on my bra/PJ top).

posey I had to pick my DH up from his work night out last night as he was too drunk to get a taxi! He spent most of night in the loo retching and managed to block the sink (fool! use the toilet!!!) and I couldn't sleep because I was worried he would choke on his own vom or something. I don't even want to ask what he was drinking to get into that state. I'm expecting a big bunch of flowers tonight...And for him to clean the toilet.

Posey01 · 11/12/2015 16:22

haha clarabellski - yep I was awake making sure he was breathing! Our motherly instincts obviously kicking in. What is it about Christmas parties?! Think i'll have a little disco nap before mine tonight - silly boys Grin

MaisieDotes · 11/12/2015 16:54

Thanks for reassurance guys. Hoping for an update tonight. Makes me think I really need to get hospital bag ready pronto.

chinchilla you reckon? I make a cafetiere in the morning with half decaf and half caf, it gives me two cups- so that =1 cup filter coffee.

I thought that would be about my allowance? Even one cup of tea mid afternoon would be lovely.

madsaz I've no appetite either most of the time. Then anything I do eat tastes like ashes and then I get heartburn.

Last time I was pregnant I really, really enjoyed food, probably for the first time in my life. I have never experienced being interested in food the way I was then. If I was going to a restaurant I'd really look forward to the eating part and think about it beforehand- I've never been like that before or since. DS loves his food so go figure.

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 11/12/2015 18:29

I drink Clipper decaf tea (found in most supermarkets in a small grey box). It tastes really similar to 'normal' tea and doesn't have any chemicals, might be worth a try for those who are struggling with horrible tasting tea.

I actually started getting stuff for my hospital bags and some newborn nappies!! Feels like it might actually happen now. Have my sons preschool Christmas fair tomorrow and apparently I'm going to be on the stall selling reindeer food ☺️ Should be fun lol

NorthernChinchilla · 11/12/2015 20:29

Definitely maisie. AFAIK, there is a small amount of evidence that drinking excessive amounts of caffeine may slightly increase the risk of mc, in the first tri. So, given all the qualifications in that, you'll be fine! Enjoy a proper cuppa tomorrow Smile

madsaz76 · 11/12/2015 21:06

Maisie thats the opposite of me. Years spent preplanning menus and now I try to avoid social stuff involving food because I can't be arsed.

My view on caffeine is essentially what chinchilla said - its about miscarriage risk and placental function.

2 cups filter = 200mcg which is the early pregnancy guideline (but you can get a litre of pepsi max for that)

In third tri unlikely to get major caffeine effects on placenta. so I am definitely over 200mcg but nowhere near my prior caffeine obsession

tea really not that caffeinated and life is pretty miserable without something to drink. I am running out of options rapidly having got to the point where both ginger and elderflower stuff has become the enemy having been first trimester saviours

Todays sad realisation is that my pelvic floor can't deal with my severe hacking cough if my bladder is full. Sad times Sad

NorthernChinchilla · 11/12/2015 22:20

Can you manage little but often mad? Would something like chocolate covered, as it's Xmas snacking on nuts work for high calorie, low volume?

The newborn nappies who, squeee..... they're so itsy bitsy. Can't believe our minds are turning to hospital bags and the like, the time is just whizzing by. Wonder who will be first (whilst clearly hoping no-one goes into v premature labour!!)?

Have fun extracting the maximum of payback clara, you deserve it Grin Flowers and cleaning the loo are a bare minimum I reckon....

Mawsymoo · 11/12/2015 22:23

I had an operation on my stomach years ago and I had to avoid caffeine completely for a few months while it healed so I've been drinking decaf tea since then. I only have normal tea if I'm out.

All is good with me - I was supposed to have an appointment today but my consultant got called to a delivery so I'm going back on Monday instead. I've had a really hungry week so I'd imagine the weight-gain is starting in earnest now!

Thanks for thinking of me maisie - the house is going fine thanks! We finally got rid of the painter and we're starting to put order on the place. I'm hoping to put up Christmas decorations this weekend. The baby's room is currently a storage area for boxes and paint cans and Christmas presents but since we don't have a cot or anything yet (and baby will be in with us for at least 6 months) there's no real rush. Both DH and I have the week after Christmas off and all our visitors should be gone home on St. Stephen's day so hopefully we'll get a bit more baby-prep done then.

Rufus200 · 11/12/2015 23:52

I'm in surrounded by mess and boxes. Removal men damaged so many newly painted walls and tracked dirt all over the new carpet, complete arseholes! Had to leave my fur babies at the other house as it isn't safe for them here yet. Just went and said goodnight to them, all 3 gave us dirty looks. Left the heating on for them.

I have such swollen ankles they both look like they are sprained. There is nothing resembling an ankle joint on either!!!
