Dirtycat I'm the same. My 12 week scan is tomorrow and today I'm in alternating between being grumpy and crying! I think it must be nerves. I don't know how I'm going to get through this day! I have a million things to do at work too-but I'm struggling to just get on and do them! Which is making me more stressed!

cautiousoptimist1 · 24/11/2015 11:19

Good luck to everyone having scans, some fantastic pictures so far Smile.

I'm going to the food show at the NEC on Friday, I go every year with a friend and I'm going to tell her before we go in. I'm a bit uneasy about telling her before the scan but would rather be honest about why I can't have my favourite things (chorizo, goats cheese, wine, gin!). I don't think she suspects so hope it goes well!!

My nausea now only appears if I'm really hungry and tiredness has reduced which I'm glad of. I am still feeling bloated in the evenings and can't always shift it. I've started getting occasional headaches too which is odd but for the most part I'm putting up with them.

Rose2806 · 24/11/2015 11:38

Caitious I have told people in situations like that when it makes my life significantly easier- I had to tell a friend I was staying with for a conference a couple of weeks ago otherwise she would have thought I was really unwell! I've found it quite nice when someone knows and you can relax and actually talk about it!

I just had a bit of a panic- thought I had been really careful checking all my skincare products for vitamin a but just discovered that the make up base I use every day contains retinyl palmitate. It's by bobbi brown so I called them up, they can't say how much is in there but said that all their products are safe in pregnancy. When I googled it some sources say topical stuff should be fine and the doctors are just being extra careful when advising against it, have emailed the midwife to see what she says.

How careful have you guys been with stuff like this? I hope I'm just being a bit over the top with it, but feel awful in case I have damaged my baby with a stupid make up product I didn't research properly :-(

Rose2806 · 24/11/2015 11:57

Have had a reply already and the midwife said it will be fine, sorry if I worried anyone Blush in case anyone else is interested this is what she said:

Retinyl Palmitate is basically Vitamin A which we do advise you not to have more than 5000iU of per day during pregnancy, however topical use of face creams does not give anywhere close to this level and you would have nothing to worry about. You will probably find that most face and body products contain a small amount of Vitamin A and research has not shown any links between use of these products and pregnancy problems. Do not take any oral supplements for your skin but topical use is fine.

Louise34567 · 24/11/2015 12:12

rose I personally don't wear any make-up and only use natural deodrant, soaps etc and bicarb of soda for shampoo so can't really help ... but as you said, that amount probably wouldn't make an impact anyway. It is scary how many ingredients are found in those kind of products though isn't it! Clever marketing and all that... x

Louise34567 · 24/11/2015 12:14

Ps how did you get your midwife's email? I'd love to be able to email mine from time to time if I have any concerns through pregnancy. Is there a blanket email address related to your NHS surgery or did you receive it in your booking-in appt or something?

I've had a booking in appt but received no email.

BiffleRoo · 24/11/2015 12:14

rose I have never checked or changed any of my beauty products in any of my pregnancies. I personally think you can be over cautious. I also don't avoid foods I'm just far more careful

cautiousoptimist1 · 24/11/2015 13:13

Rose I hadn't considered anything like that at all but pleased that you got reassurance from your midwife.

bikingintherain · 24/11/2015 13:15

I'm the same as biffle. The thing is everywhere has different regulations on it. If you go to France pregnant women eat soft cheeses but not fresh salad. Lots of women don't find out that they are pregnant and have been on a few boozy nights and things are ok.

That said I think there are definitely some helpful guidelines. But if we make a mistake or two choose to ignore a littleon Christmas Day everything is still going to be ok.

17caterpillars1mouse · 24/11/2015 13:17

Had scan, all is well. Saw baby jumping around in there :) so so relieved

cheshirem2b · 24/11/2015 13:22

So pleased for you ladies with happy scans! Our scan is tomorrow and I cannot wait! Anyone finding out your team colours?

bikingintherain · 24/11/2015 13:22

Wonderful news 17 congratulations!

Louise34567 · 24/11/2015 13:33

cheshire I want to find out!! But my 12 week scan isn't until 21st December. Due date not 'til 30 June that's why. Long wait for me .....
Anyone else got their 12 week scan around the 21st?

Also... just a general question ... is anyone's mind working on overdrive a bit throughout pregnancy? I'm a bit of a worrier (not pregnancy related, more work) and my anxiety seems to have gotten worse through pregnancy noooo. Apparently it can happen as pregnancy can help heighten emotions etc?

BiffleRoo · 24/11/2015 13:45

cheshire we plan on finding out ... IF we ever get a scan date!!! DH is away when my 20 week scan should be so we plan on asking sonographer to seal the gender in an envelope so we can open it together whenever he gets back.

iamdivergent · 24/11/2015 13:56

Having a good day today, been and spent some of my birthday vouchers and now am sat in Starbucks with a muffin and chocolate frappe - I was just walking past and thought I NEED a Starbucks!

Anyone else getting out of breath alot easier, and I feel my heart fair working overdrive too even just going up stairs etc - making me feel so unfit! 13 days til scan and I can't wait Smile I'll be 11+5 for scan, fairly confident of dates (I used a period tracker and now use its pregnancy counterpart) so x I don't get moved back, forward would be nice though!

iamdivergent · 24/11/2015 13:57

Ooh and we are definately going you find out the sext at the 20wk scan, it will help both us and our dds prepare for the arrival and gives everyone time to get their head round things if it's a boy!

Salzundessig · 24/11/2015 14:01

Hi all!

I am nearly at the end of the 1st tri so I thought I would say hi and join you! I am due on June 11th and have a nearly 16month old boy. We live abroad and my mum is coming over next week for my 30th so I can't wAit to tell her. We are telling my DH's family (who live locally) this weekend. The majority of my friends know already but it doesn't seem a big deal to tell them.

I have already had a scan here at 9+5 and we have our first trimester screening on Friday. I am going for a VBAC after the world's worst delivery with my son. 6 days of induction then an emergency c section anyway! Grrr.

Good luck to anyone who is having a scan this week!

mrsmugoo · 24/11/2015 14:04

We will definitely be finding out the sex. We didn't with first one, so I know what having a "surprise" feels like but this time we've chosen to do it the other way as we feel like for practical reasons it would be better to know. And also so we can prepare DS for either a baby sister or brother.

GuessHowMuchILoveGin · 24/11/2015 14:37

So good of your midwife to give you a researched and well thought answer, Rose. I agree with Biffle, I wouldn't think twice about beauty products, but I'm fairly haggard low maintenance most of the time. I follow the guidance about soft cheese, pate, uncooked eggs and meat with the odd slip here and there.

We'll not find out at 20 weeks. DS was a surprise and this one will be too.

I'm starting to feel a bit excited now. I got my maternity clothes out of the loft and am wearing some trousers today pretending I have got a bump. Grin

Betty79 · 24/11/2015 15:04

We'll be finding out the sex at 20 weeks, I like to be prepared. I'd like to have a 4d scan as well after 20 weeks so my girls can see the baby on scan.

My sickness has come back again after about a week off, not feeling wonderful today and so tired. Can't even chill out when I get in from work either as dd2 is doing a concert thing with school tonight so I need to go and watch.

nehagarg · 24/11/2015 15:16

Definitely going to find out in January ... Makes it much easier to plan and also because I am super impatient. No way am I going to be able to wait until I give birth Grin

Torfhinn · 24/11/2015 15:17

We found out the sex with ds by think we will keep it as a surprise this time round Smile

So much has changed in the past week. .. i have a little bump now so look pregnant but feel almost back to normal symptom wise.

mrsmugoo, i had a moment when i first found out that i felt sad that my son wouldn't be the only special one any more and felt that i was letting him down by planning to divide my attention. I'm sure I'll keep revisiting those feeling and totally get where you are coming from

Welcome salzun Smile

Lovelybeano · 24/11/2015 15:57

I stayed team yellow with both dd & ds and loved finding out at the birth, this time however my oh says we've got to find out :( I understand it will be easier to sort out sleeping arrangements before they arrive but I'm gutted lol
I get out of breath just walking up the stairs at the moment divergent and I'm getting really dizzy & wobbly when I stand up, the joys of pregnancy.
My maternity clothes have just arrived !! Woohoo I'm gonna go and try them on in a mo, I'm hoping the leggings and jeans will be super comfy fx I've got a bit of a tummy now instead of just a bloat it's becoming a little more solid - 16 days till scan day, I really want to hide away until then :)

GuessHowMuchILoveGin · 24/11/2015 16:10

MrsMugoo, I think it's totally normal to have those feelings. I can't imagine loving anyone as much as I love DS, but I can't wait for him to have a sibling as I know they'll have great fun growing up as a team.

jbiscuits · 24/11/2015 16:11

We haven't decided whether to find out the sex or not yet. We didn't with DS, which I liked, but also think it might be nice to have the other experience. I suspect we won't find out though because I'm too paranoid they might get it wrong!
