Hi tomboy

This thread moves fast!! I didn't check in yesterday cos we were out all, another few pages were added lol
Insomnia is still an issue, I've been awake since 3 so I've given up and come downstairs for a cuppa.
For those of you looking at mat wear, new look have got a sale on at the moment, I think I'm going to order a pair of skinny jeans, a pair of leggings and a couple of tops. I don't like buying too many mat clothes , especially because we're probably going to need a couple of summer items too. I may nip to primark and see if they have some stretchy jumper dresses that I can accessorise while I'm looking podgy rather than preggers :)
Booking in appointment today - 10+1 feels wierd thinking I'm a quarter way through already !!

MagicDucky · 23/11/2015 07:57

Goodness this thread moves fast! I can't keep up!

Hello to everyone new and congratulations!!

Sad to hear some of you are still feeling sick (I'm in the same boat!) hope we all feel better soon!

Help! I've got the second part of my booking appointment today and have to get bloods done! I faint every time I get bloods and last time I was sick down myself AND fainted! Anyone have any advice on how to avoid it? Feeling nervous isn't really helping I suppose haha!

nehagarg · 23/11/2015 08:04

Good luck to all those having scans today!

Thabks for the wishes for mum everyone. She is still bed ridden but her spirits are up, thankfully. I'll stick around another week till dad comes back. DH has to go back today but he'll be back here friday.

In other news - I am 13 weeks today! First trimester is well and truly over and this morning, lying in bed, my tummy was definitely feeling gravity defyingly round. No symptoms though. Nausea has kicked the bucket as has fatigue. Phew! Now if only I'd stop getting nipples of painful death every time I felt cold.

nehagarg · 23/11/2015 08:06

MagicDucky - you poor thing. You must be really freaking out. Like me before I am due to get on a plane. A friend of mine has the same issue. Maybe take someone along who can help distract you a bit? Works for my friend. She still goes deathly white but it does work.

Hope it all goes well for you.

Belleboo23 · 23/11/2015 08:34

Magicducky that sounds awful bless you I wish I could offer advice, I think definitely a good idea to take someone with you though.
I'm hoping my scan appointment arrives today fingers crossed!!!

laughingGnomette · 23/11/2015 08:59

nehagarg - I suffer from nipples from hell when I'm cold too. These have been a life saver:

Oooh thanks Gnomette. I'll definitely get a couple!

laughingGnomette · 23/11/2015 09:20

I've got appointments coming out of my ears in December. I've got:

  • 12wk scan
  • mw appointment at 15wks
  • obstetrician appointment (I think this is because I am classed as high risk)
  • Gestational diabetes test (gutted about this one, I didn't have GD last time around the only reason I can think I've got this test is because DS was a big baby. It just seems too early and I'm dreading it Sad)
Hoping for a quiet new year!

MagicDucky perhaps ask to lie down, look away and tell yourself its like accidentally getting pricked by a pin like when you are sewing? Think of your baby and how much for Christmas will be next year (or something equally distracting) Tell the nurse/midwife your worries they are usually really helpful - ask her to talk rubbish to you to distract you. Best of luck xxx

dollydaydream84 · 23/11/2015 09:24

Gnomette I had to have diabetes test last time as my BMI is above 25 but usually 28 weeks is about the time they make you have it? Have you checked with your midwife that hey have got the dates right for it? It isn't too bad, just boring if that helps? How big was DS? My DD was 9lb6 so had to have all the sugar heel prick tests, anything over 9lb4 I think are classed as "weighty"

jbiscuits · 23/11/2015 09:37

gnomette I also had the gtt last time, and will again this time (family history), but dolly is right, it's not normally until about 28 weeks, so might be worth checking. The only thing I'd advise is take lots of snacks for straight after. I felt really faint because of the fasting.

laughingGnomette · 23/11/2015 09:48

Thanks dolly, hmm yes my BMI is above 25 and DS was 9lb 10oz so it looks inevitable. I will check about the dates though, I'll only be 14 weeks which just seems too early doesn't it?
I had the test last time and struggled with the fasting, combined with the sugar syrup which made me feel really sick... and the blood tests which left both of my arms very bruised. Eugh. Sad (wimp)

I have my booking in appointment today too, good luck with yours beano! I'm 9+6 so almost the same as you, I like your way if seeing it as a quarter of the way through as time feels like it's going soooo slowly still!

LouLou030783 · 23/11/2015 10:04

Time is going so slowly I'm 9+3 scans not until 15th Dec when I'm 12+4 it feels so far away.

Had my booking app on Friday was brutal as notes hadn't been sent for previous births so had to go through everything again.

How's everyone feeling

dollydaydream84 · 23/11/2015 10:05

Gnomette I also had to have it because my Dad has Type 2 diabetes...forgot about that! 9lb10 is a good weight :D I do think 14 weeks is too early but I'm not a midwife so definitely check - you don't want to have it done twice!!! I am not good with weird flavours at the best of times coupled with an empty stomach and morning sickness, I asked if I could drink it in the toilet in case I threw up in the surgery, the nurse agreed as long as she came with me to check I actually did drink it. It didn't seem to have a flavour to it, just syruppy as you say so better than I expected, just boring to wait for it isn't it! Did you get a really early appointment? Make sure you don't have to fast for longer than necessary. I was a wimp with blood tests but they can never get any out of me so I've had to get used to it, 9 attempts in my arms & hands and ended up calling the doctor to do it last week!!

JoMalones · 23/11/2015 10:13

Lou, it's dragging for me too, I'm 9+4. Booking apt tomorrow and scan two weeks on Friday.

Gnomette do you use emla cream to numb your arm? It does work if you put it on about 45min before and don't put it in your back pocket then sit on it! My right cheek was numb for hours!

Really hoping the nausea, sickness and total tiredness disappears soon!

nehagarg · 23/11/2015 10:34

Gnomette - I have mine GDT when I will be 15 weeks. Probably because of family history if diabetes as my BMI is normal and this is my first kid.

laughingGnomette · 23/11/2015 10:56

dolly - blimey! 9 attempts! You poor thing. The MW gave up after a couple of tries with me and told me to get them done when I have my scan.

Jo - hehe, love the numb bum story! The cream does sound worth trying, thanks for the tip. My veins are so tiny they always have trouble getting blood from me.

nehagarg - Interesting! Perhaps it's a Whitt thing to test early then? Joy!

Hi ladies! Sorry I have been AWOL lately! It is crazy busy in our house with an almost 11 month old cruising around and she gave me baby germs so once she is in bed in the evening I am not far behind!
Scan on Wednesday so I am super excited about that! Cannot wait to see our little smudgey baby and hopefully see if they can tell us whether we are in team pink or blue!

We have decided that if all is well at the scan we are going to let DD1 tell our friends and family - we have bought her a TShirt that says "big sister in training"! Subtle!
I had terrible pains in my back/hips/pelvis region last weekend so the point I couldn't sleep. Ended up calling the EPU who advised me to rest and see how I got on as I had no bleeding etc. Turns out because I am pg so soon after DD1 who ended up as a csection it is my body stretching and it hurting more because it is technically still healing! great! Anyway, it all died down after about 48 hours and nothing since. Other than that I wouldn't know I was pg!
Sorry for the loooong post! Hope everyone else is coping ok!

Lovelybeano · 23/11/2015 11:05

Good luck for today rose!!

Just had my booking in appointment, scan all booked in :) although I am being referred to a consultant this time because my ds got a bit stuck plus my dd was 6lb5.5 and my ds was 8lb3 so if the theory that the baby gets bigger the more pregnancys you have this could be a 10lb bubba lol ( crosses legs hoping that baby stays a nice size so I can deliver with no complications )

cheshirem2b · 23/11/2015 11:15

Beano I am getting referred to the VBAC team and GD teams - GD in last pregnancy although only borderline so hopefully I will be able to diet manage this time again. VBAC because DD1 got stuck so ended in cs and apparently VBAC want you to go for natural delivery if possible with DC2 which suits me just fine!

mrsmugoo · 23/11/2015 11:53

I am VBACing too - last time was an ELCS for breech so it's really annoying to be under shared care and told I have to deliver on delivery suite (no MLU/pool) because nothing went "wrong" last time (textbook healthy pregnancy) and no suggestion anything would be anything other than completely normal this time. Just that pesky risk of scar rupture I suppose.

Lovelybeano · 23/11/2015 12:13

What does VBAC mean ? Im hoping they just keep an eye on the size of baby rather than interfere too much , time will tell I suppose xx

mrslewis2015 · 23/11/2015 12:23

loulou we are scan and due date twins! Feels like such a long wait doesn't it! Xx

Betty79 · 23/11/2015 12:34

Hi ladies, struggling to keep up with this thread sometimes! Good luck to everyone with scans due, 2 weeks today till mine.

I'm another one who will be going for a VBAC this time due to a stubborn breech baby last time. Dd1 was a normal birth so I'm hoping all will be ok this time, really don't want another section unless I really have to.
