I have a GTT booked for 28 weeks. I've dreading it, pretty sure I'm going to 'fail' as am terrible with sugar levels generally. I didn't have to have it last pregnancy as no risk factors and managed to avoid too much sugar in urine but have risk factors this time (PCOS mainly). It's not a massive big deal but it's going to be a PITA testing and avoiding carbs for the rest of the pregnancy - esp over Christmas!

tinyme135 · 03/09/2015 18:13

I got to have gtt test in just over 2 weeks time as I have PCOS and it's mandatory really not looking forward to it :(

Elvi1 · 03/09/2015 19:56

Sorry for being thick but what is a gtt test and why do you have to take it?

AlohaMama · 03/09/2015 21:01

elvi it's a glucose tolerance test to check for gestational diabetes. You have to fast, they take bloods, you drink a drink with known quantity of glucose and sit around for a while and then they take bloods again. In some countries they test everyone but in UK just those with risk factors. The test is a pain, then if you have the diabetes you have to have a very controlled diet (as far as I know, thankfully I always passed).

Elvi1 · 03/09/2015 21:24

I see - thanks aloha. Ah that does sound like a pain for those who have take it. I guess I would have been told before now if I need to take test?

I have bought a few new bits from asos and for first time in a while have felt confident in my new floaty dress sings: the hills are alive with the sound of music... and dare I say....attractive! A new wardrobe certainly does wonders for confidence - new found boost will prob last all of a week haha Grin

BeeMyBaby · 04/09/2015 06:24

elvi you should get a standard blood test at your 28 week mw appointment, if your sugars test high in this then they will make you take the GTT test. If you know you are going to have a blood test you should eat 1-2 hours before hand, but try not to eat much in the 60 mins prior to your appointment. When pregnant with DD1 I didn't realise I'd have the blood test so had the biggest bowl of frosties known to man just before I went to my appointment (about 15/20 mins before I had my blood test) and it brought back a high sugar result in my blood unsurprisingly so I had to have the GTT test and had weeks of DH being horrid to me about my diet and that I was going to harm my baby before My appointment and getting the results. MW was not nice either. Thankfully I was negative but it was an experience not to be repeated and with DD2 I made sure I timed how I ate prior to the tests. At the last blood test I just had a large glass of milk an hour prior to getting my bloods taken and the mw said that was fine.

Elvi1 · 04/09/2015 07:27

Thanks for the heads up! Odd that they don't bother telling you but maybe they don't want you to manipulate your normal diet. That was really unlucky they pulled you in over a bowl of frosties!

MissSMartin · 04/09/2015 11:39

Hello ladies! I struggle getting on here without the app! As soon as they sort it out I'll be back on everyday .. I miss coming on here :( hope your all well xx

coffeenut · 04/09/2015 12:12

How annoying Bee!! I remember when I had my bloods done for DD1, they asked whether I'd eaten recently and what I'd had. They've phased out the simple blood test here- prob because it caused so many issues.

I'll have to go in early on a sat morning for mine though so that I don't have to fast during the day. Yuck.

I have heard that if you've not had GD for previous babies then it's very unlikely you would have it for subsequent babies. Fingers crossed! And fingers x'd for your nightfall

Elvi your floaty dress sounds lovely. I have a couple of floaty tops which I feel okay in. It's fathers day here on Sunday so will pull out an Isabella Oliver dress I've had for years, hopefully it looks okay! They are clingy but also quite thick material so can be flattering.

Sorry you're getting pelvic pain too lily. I'm starting to get it in my hips just from lying in bed in the one position too long. Hooray.

tinyme135 · 04/09/2015 14:54

had the day off work today as had no sleep and was suffering with really bad pains and nope movements. luckily he's still moving but still got the pains they come and go.

BeeMyBaby · 05/09/2015 08:23

Arg I got cramp in my left leg 3 times last night, one of which was mid dream and it's a pretty horrid way to wake up. I must remember to take my vitamins Confused. Anyone else starting getting leg cramps?

coffee I didn't realise that not having GD in previous pregnancies decreased the probably of getting it, I just thought if you had it before it increased the probability.

Blackandwhitecat3 · 05/09/2015 08:52

bee I'm only getting cramps when I'm dehydrated thankfully. Though dehydrated is not good - I need to drink more are work.

dotter I got my coat in the ASOS sale, it's a plain black skater coat, wooly and warm, I nearly had it on yesterday!

So good to have had a. Good night's sleep. Off to my first Pilates class this morning to try to strengthen up my poor back a bit to cope with all this extra weight. My bump is enormous! I look like I'm 7 months Smile.

I survived my first week back! Can't quite believe it. With promotion, I'm busier than I've ever been, so need to be a bit careful. Well, one week down, 12.5 to go! I love that stat.

Elvi1 · 05/09/2015 09:18

bee - funny should mention cos I kept waking up with cramps last night - fortunately could just stretchy it out and go straight back to sleep. Think def pregnancy related as usually when I have cramps it's bad and I have to do a little dance to get rid of it!

Also keep waking up on my back despite trying to wedge self inbetween pillows. I know you're not meant to lay on back but hopefully if I don't feel uncomfortable it's not doing any harm.

tinyme135 · 05/09/2015 11:00

my first day back after having two days off ill with horrible stomach pains, pains in the lower region and now im back they've come back with a vengeance also with sharp stabbing pains at the top of my back. I phoned triarge and they said to take paracetamol and if the pain doesnt go to call back. this was at half 8 and im still getting them. I'm at work till 1 and then have a house viewing at 2 so if i still got them then gonna get the OH to take me to a&e. I thought it was constipation, took some lactulose and my god did i flush everything out and nope still in pain, thought it was trapped wind, took natural pregnancy safe remedies to help it and the wind came out and nope still in pain. MIL thinks its to do with my ibs but i went this is shooting pains, my ibs is a knotting pain.

I'm hardly feeling my little man but im guessing i wont notice him as much as the pain is stronger than his kicks. I'm constantly tired and i slept most of yesterday. I just want my bed and the pain to go. OH is worried sick and is thinking the worse so im trying to stay calm while he's going crazy :(

frozenfairy123 · 05/09/2015 15:18

Tiny go in and get yourself checked! It's not right to be in pain like that x

tinyme135 · 05/09/2015 16:18

MIL has run me a bath and told me to have a nap if that doesn't help she's taking me to our local A&E

AlohaMama · 05/09/2015 20:06

Sorry to hear of your pains tiny. Hope you've got yourself checked out. You get used to odd sorts of pains here and there but yours sound pretty non stop. Hope you can feel better soon.

tinyme135 · 05/09/2015 20:29

I've been asleep all afternoon and just had something to eat and feel rather queasy. MIL thinks I have a virus or something but I dunno what to do as I feel like I'm wasting their time.

coffeenut · 06/09/2015 04:40

You wont be wasting anyone's time tiny - I hope you got checked out.

All of you ladies with cramps get on the calcium + magnesium supps! (I know, I'm a broken record, but they really do work).

b&w I hope pilates was fun! It's so expensive to do around here I just cant justify it. Congrats on your promotion too but yes take it easy.

Happy sunday everyone!

BeeMyBaby · 06/09/2015 07:33

I agree with coffee, tiny you wouldn't be wasting anyone's time. I read a few early labour threads etc on mumsnet, sometimes due to an infection so it's really worth getting checked out.

My prenatal vitamins do have calcium and magnesium but not the 100% rda, I drink loads of milk but will have to find foods which have magnesium... On the bright side I had no cramps last night so not sure what I did differently during the day.

I'm finally starting to buy the few bits and bobs I need - I bought some reusable breast pads yesterday from China on eBay which I'll hopefully receive in October (1 or 2 of my tops have the oil like milk stains still from previous leakage).

tinyme135 · 06/09/2015 08:50

I got myself checked out and everything is fine. just need to make sure I don't go worse

coffeenut · 06/09/2015 11:59

Good news tiny Smile

bee you need a separate calcium/magnesium supp - the dose in the prenatal vits is nowhere near enough for me!

AlohaMama · 06/09/2015 16:11

Glad to hear everything is OK tiny.

I got great reusable pads off etsy last time. I tended to go for disposable out of the house though as they were thinner and didn't show thru clothes. Mind you we'll be wearing loads of layers I suppose.

Had a lovely afternoon blackberry picking with the DC this afternoon, but DH as being (over) protective and wouldn't let me climb an apple tree to forage. Hmm

kep1979 · 07/09/2015 06:15

Glad all is ok tiny - did they say what is causing it? I was having lots of strong BH yesterday and some foof pains but feeling better today. I was starting to panic!

tinyme135 · 07/09/2015 08:05

no just to keep an eye out to see if there's any changes again.

Oh we have put a deposit on a house too :)
