Is anyone else not having a scan till 12 weeks? Seems like a lot of people are having early ones.

I eat peanuts too, looked it up and said it was fine. I'm growing out my highlights but don't think getting them is a problem at all.

Mamama31 · 16/09/2015 11:43

Oh that's good about the highlights ill book in for after my early scan as can't go on much longer than that looking like this!

My nephew has a nut allergy and has to carry an epi pen so that's why I'm wondering if I shouldn't be eating nuts but me and my husband don't have allergies- I just get a slight bit of seasonal hayfever and that's it.

Mamama31 · 16/09/2015 11:44

Maud I hope your doing ok, thinking of you x

ODog · 16/09/2015 11:46

Peanuts are fine as far as I know.

Welcome brass and any other newcomers I've missed. This thread is moving so fast now!

DS having a hopefully long nap after toddler group this morning so I'm planning on tackling the huge questionnaire I've been emailed by the hospital.

toffee - have a good day you two = too cute!

PosterEh · 16/09/2015 11:51

Blil Harmony is a blood test that can be done to detect Downs syndrome and other related conditions. It's more accurate than the nuchal scan plus bloods that's usually used and doesn't have the risks of the amnio or cvs. I think it's only available privately in the UK but I've been away a few years so maybe some areas offer it to everyone/high risk mothers on the NHS.

Blil3 · 16/09/2015 12:22

Ah right okay, thanks Poster, I'd never heard of it.
Daphne I don't think I'll be having one until 12 weeks... Got first midwife 'group' session next week (will be 8weeks then) and then I'll get given a 1:1 appointment with midwife, and that's all before a scans even been mentioned. Hoping to get a scan asap as my cycle is never regular so would like to know the real date Confused

ToffeeAppleMarsBar · 16/09/2015 12:38

Gosh I don't know anything about all the names of these tests. Does your midwife go through all the options with you when you first meet them?

Oooh BLil - Barcelona will be lOVELY! I've always wanted to go. Have the most wonderful time out there!

Good news about the highlights, but I'll let you all know what my hairdresser says as well.

Incidentally, after I told you all yesterday about my DH alarm antics... he was VERY cute this morning and got up, turned the alarm off himself and didn't wake me. He then woke me gently at 7am. He's a good'un! And he'll be the most wonderful of Dads.

I JUST WANT TO FASTFORWARD TIME. Feeling a little more nauseous today but I'm hoping I can stave off any vomiting for quite a while. I've got a stomach made of steel so it does take a lot for me to be pukey!

Bishboshbash · 16/09/2015 12:43

I won't be having a scan before 12 weeks, too skint after my car has cost me £600 this week. Was at a family wedding yesterday and DS was so hyper he didn't go to sleep until 11pm and I woke up at 5am and couldn't get back to sleep. So tired feel like I have a hangover!

It feels very strange only being 4+5. I didn't get a positive test with ds until I was nearly 7 weeks! Time is going to go so slowly...

PinkBubbles1 · 16/09/2015 12:56

Tod when was your little one born? One of my boys just turned 18mths he was born 14/3/14.

I am getting highlight done and will be eating peanut butter! I think it's all fine. Maybe check with mw if family history.

I'm not getting an early scan, will wait for the nucheal at 12 weeks.

Anyone looked at the Chinese gender predictor chart?!

ToffeeAppleMarsBar · 16/09/2015 13:01

Oooh Pink, just tried the Chinese gender predictor, and it reckons I'll be having a boy. I also think I'm having a boy. Don't really know why. Just have a weird feeling. Time will soon tell!

PosterEh · 16/09/2015 13:05

Toffee I'm on dc3 so I've picked up quite a bit along the way but the midwife should explain about the nuchal scan when you book in. I think you have to sign a consent form for it so they need to explain what is being looked for.

Daphnedolittle · 16/09/2015 13:09

I just tried the gender predictor and it said girl. I'm convinced I'm having a boy. Partly cause of when we dtd. I was told that if you dtd on the day of ovulation the chances of having a boy are higher, not sure if that's true!!

Mamama31 · 16/09/2015 13:38

Well today I'm not feeling nausea but I can't quite decide what I want to eat. I had cereal this morning and a fruit smoothie, then we went out for mid morning coffee with work (I had decaf tea) and I had a scone. Went home just then at lunch time and looked in the fridge and cupboards and just couldn't find anything I wanted so just had a glass of chocolate milk.

Muffin7 · 16/09/2015 13:47

Mamma 31 I know the feeling, we plan our meals at the start of the week, but last week one evening I didn't fancy any of it so went to ASDA and bought pasta n sauce and a chicken kiev!! I haven't had a kiev for years but it was just what I fancied

Mamama31 · 16/09/2015 13:59

Muffin I have salmon defrosted for dinner....and I don't even want it but don't know what I want...maybe by dinner time I'll feel a notion for something. On a positive note at least I'm not overdosing bacon baps and jam doughnuts today!

Daphnedolittle · 16/09/2015 14:01

My nausea is back today but not too bad. I felt sick on the train but don't feel too bad now.
I have eaten salad and fruit. I don't fancy anything else, hope I'm getting enough nutrients. Looking forward to a yazoo later Smile
I am so bored at work today so keep checking this thread!

Mamama31 · 16/09/2015 14:36

Daphne me too! The day is dragging...and I've no interest! Have a meeting at 4 and no motivation to do anything before that so feel free to provide some entertainment haha!

Daphnedolittle · 16/09/2015 14:43

Hehe glad I'm not the only one. My meeting is at 3.30! I do feel like my interest at work has waned slightly!
I've started planning a hol! Thinking of going to the canaries for a week in November, if anyone has any tips!

Mamama31 · 16/09/2015 14:47

What a coincidence I was pricing flights for the canaries for next summer after the baby is born! Depends on the type of holiday you are after, if you want somewhere very quiet and relaxing with nice beaches Fuerteventura is the one. But if you want comewhere a bit busier with lots of shops, bars etc but still nice beaches then Lanzarote would be good. Not keen on Tenerife! Black sand beaches and very touristy!

ToffeeAppleMarsBar · 16/09/2015 14:56

I'm also in the 'too-bored-at-work' camp. I just can't concentrate. It's so quiet in the office today and I have a longer working day than usual as we've got an evening event. Boo hoo.

Oooh I've only been to Gran Canaria but I definitely had a nice time. I think it's like all places: just be careful where you book. I do TONS of research before booking any holiday. Going on an abroad holiday is a lot of money to us so always make sure the money is well spent!

I'm on the 3 week countdown to Morocco now as our belated honeymoon! EEEK. Can't wait. 10 days of relaxation mixed with culture and walking. And of course, no work! YIPPEE!

Mamama31 · 16/09/2015 15:00

Toffee yes Gran Canaria is also nice, one of the bigger islands. You get sun most of the year in all canaries I agree do the research on trip advisor and make sure you get a nice resort and hotel.

So jealous of your Morocco trip!

I don't know how I'm going to function at my 4pm meeting I'm so disinterested and will be counting down the mins until 5pm! I need motivation!!!!

GrouchyKiwi · 16/09/2015 15:12

Hey brass. Congrats on your BFP!

I decided to self refer to the midwife today because I'd have to wait 3 weeks or something to see the GP and I'm so glad I did! No waiting for appointments in the post: appointments made for booking with midwife in October and 12 week scan in November. Got to choose times that suit and everything. Good stuff.

It feels weird, though, because I'm only 4+2 so sometimes I feel like I'm jumping the gun or something.

Having little niggles and definitely experiencing hormonal fluctuations. DD1 had her pre-school boosters today and I cried when she did. DD2 is being cuddly and sweet, which I'm finding very moving even all the snot she's covering me in.

Re what you can and can't do: there's actually a very good page about all of that in the pregnancy section here, so do check it out if you feel unsure. I usually feel happy enough to have a glass or wine or two every week during pregnancy but had already decided to have an alcohol-free September so might carry that on this time. Maybe a glass at Christmas and on my birthday...

TiffanyAtBreakfast · 16/09/2015 16:32

ToffeeApple we went to Morocco for our honeymoon two years ago! Loved it, you'll have an amazing time Smile

Another one bored at work here! I've been freezing all day as well because the air conditioning is just so over the top here.

Loving this gorgeous gloomy autumnal weather, I'm off next weekend for a little cottage break with my DH, DB & brother's girlfriend, I plan to make good use of the open fire!

Daphnedolittle · 16/09/2015 19:30

Thanks for the tips Smile I think we will focus on gran canaria or fuerteventura. Quite like the idea of less busy. Can't spend too much though as we will need it for when baby comes. I will def do lots of research.
Toffee - I bet you can't wait for your honeymoon! So exciting and Morocco will be brilliant.
I wish I liked gloomy weather tiffany! I almost had to swim home from work! Was not enjoying it, and have very wet feet.
It's nice all tucked up by a fire though I'll give you that!

Daphnedolittle · 16/09/2015 19:32

Just downed a big glass if strawberry yazoo! Yum!!
