Hi! Anyone else around yet who's expecting in April 2016? I've searched Mumsnet but can't find a thread- apologies if I've missed it. Just got my BFP today due date would be 2nd April (so the NHS website tells me). Would be great to have company on this journey!!

What does the number + number format mean? Is it week + days? I'm so confused by how I'm 4 weeks and 4 days pregnant even though I know it was only conceived 2ish weeks ago! I've got nausea too Definitelysometime, and it started about yesterday. Not first thing in the morning, but once I'm on the bus to work and then it lasts all day. Still feel sicky now. I bought some crystallised ginger and some ice lollies today in the hope they'll help!

Sophia1984 · 07/08/2015 21:13

Also, I have such bad twingey cramps - I've had them since about 10 days past ovulation. I thought they were implantation cramps, then I assumed they were PMT/period cramps, but now I guess it's just my womb getting itself ready. Am I ok to use hot water bottle for them?

Diggum · 07/08/2015 21:13

Yes Sophia, it's week + days. They (whoever "they" are) start counting from your last period so you get to be 2 weeks ahead of where you really are without even trying!

I suppose it makes sense as based on that they also say you're pregnant for 40 weeks (on average), which is obviously a deal more than 9 months!

Congrats to all the new arrivals Smile

Definitelysometime · 07/08/2015 21:36

Your poor DD kiwi, hope she's feeling much better now. The midwife system sounds lovely - if a bit stressful in getting the right one! I don't think I ever saw the same MW twice last time...

Dreading the 8/10 week stage if sickness is already kicking in now. I also have a huge project at work in sept / oct. I'm going to be utterly useless.

Def go for a hot water bottle for the cramping Sophia, that sounds soothing. Or a hot bath?

Hanky3 · 07/08/2015 21:38

Hi everyone! I have been lurking on here since getting my BFP and have finally gotten around to saying hello Smile
I am 27 and am 5 + 2, first pregnancy. It is beginning to sink in that I am actually pregnant but am definitely doing a lot of knicker checking so glad I'm not the only one! Also kind of looking forward to nausea so that I know I'm definitely still pregnant, but equally know I will want it gone within minutes of it arriving!
Anyone else struggling with knowing when to tell people? I have told my mum and dad and my mum wants me to tell my siblings so she can talk about it freely and get excited but my dad thinks we should wait a bit more. It's so tricky- 5 weeks is still so early but I do want them to feel excited and a part of it, and I would tell them if I had an MC for the support. I might try and hold off until booking in appointment which is on 20th so would be 7+1 then. Do any experienced mummies know whether they do an actual check that you are still pregnant at the midwife appointment?

So lovely to hear all about how you are all doing- mumsnet is awesome...

spottedquoll · 07/08/2015 21:43

Another lurker here! I'm 34, and about 4+3 with number 2, though I have short cycles so maybe a bit further on in real time. I had my first in NZ so I have no idea how it works in the UK - want to swap, kiwi? Grin Bit tired (but #1 isn't a sleeper so I'm not sure it's any worse than usual) and a bit ragey, but otherwise feeling okay so far. Suspect sickness is around the corner though. Hmm

waxweasel · 07/08/2015 21:54

hanky not in my experience - I think generally the first actual time anyone checks you're pregnant is when you have the 12 week scan! But others may have had different experiences

Dexlie0806 · 07/08/2015 21:56

Yes hanky im the same about when to tell people. We have only told 1 of our close friends and her dh. I really want to tell my sister and mam but don't want them to be disappointed like last time if I mc again. I actually wrote a text out to my sister tonight then deleted it. It's a really difficult one Smile

Hope your dd is ok kiwi. Poor little thing.

DizzyMerry · 07/08/2015 22:58

Congrats and welcome to the newbies.

Hope your DD's feeling better soon kiwi. Hope you are able to get some rest too.

Dexlie sorry about your mc. Fx for a super sticky bean.

I'm actually willing on symptoms and no doubt I'll be complaining then too Hmm

FussyHendricks · 08/08/2015 01:25

Hello all. Big welcome to all the new BFPs!

Lots of posts I need to catch up on but thought I'd pop in and say hi before I start packing.

It's our last day of holiday today. Sickness and nausea kicked in about 5 days ago and despite doing pretty much naff all while being here I am ridiculously tired all the time. FX DD sleeps most of the way on the plane so I can get some shut eye too!

Mummyofonesofar · 08/08/2015 06:44

Sophia hot water bottle is fine in pregnancy as the bean is very well protected.

Hot baths are not ok in pregnancy because they raise your core temp which is bad for baby. Same reason we can't use hot tubs, saunas or steam rooms.

tessandjude · 08/08/2015 08:47

Sorry, I'm being thick bit can someone help me with the weeks plus days. My last period started on July 2nd. Does that mean I'm something like 5 weeks despite only conceiving a few weeks ago? Confusing!

Not many symptoms here, just bloating still and quite a bit of soreness and cramps which keep making me worry!

tessandjude · 08/08/2015 08:52

Oh and headaches although am prong that down to caffeine withdrawal. I miss coffee soooo much!

FatimaLovesBread · 08/08/2015 08:56

Welcome and congrats to all the newbies! I keep reading every evening and then I'm too tired to post Smile

I've got no nausea yet really, had a couple of waves of it in the evening but no where near as bad as I did with DD. With her I was sick constantly from 4+2 till about 13 weeks, I was also on progesterone pessaries then though so not sure if that made it worse. I'd quite like a bit of sickness just so I know it's still there.
Symptom wise the only thing i've had is the extreme tiredness in the evenings, not helped by the fact that I've worked a day extra than I normally do this week [yawn]

Tess You'll be 5+2. Pregnancy is counted from LMP even though conception takes place roughly two weeks after LMP depending on when you ovulate. Your 12 week scan may change the dates slightly depending on measurements.

With DD I was measuring 2 days bigger but as I'd had IVF I knew the exact conception date which was 2 weeks after LMP so they didn't change my due date. DD arrived on her due date so her dates were bob on!

Sophia1984 · 08/08/2015 12:13

So, things on my mind today...

  1. I'm running a half marathon in September - I know exercise is fine to continue with if it's what you're used to, but that's still kind of crazy. It'll be too early to tell anyone, so I feel like I'll have no excuse for 'taking it easy'! I had planned to go on a 10 mile run today but am feeling knackered :-( `
  2. I don't know what I should be eating. I'm vegetarian, and don't have much dairy or eggs either. I eat a lot of pulses and grains and vegetables, but I'd only just got used to eating enough calories for increased exercise, so have no clue what to do now! I always thought I would start eating meat when I got pregnant, but the thought makes me feel (eve more) sick. Funnily enough, one of the reasons I knew I was pregnant was cause my partner was eating steak and the smell made me really hungry!
  3. We both went and gave blood and few weeks so are sort of lucky enough to know our blood types. Not so luckily, he is Rh + and I'm Rh - so I feel like that's another worry!

Hope you are all feeling well :)

TriJo · 08/08/2015 12:36

Sophia I'm supposed to be doing an Olympic distance triathlon (1500m swim, 40km bike, 10km run) tomorrow... still trying to decide whether to do it. Managed a 25km cycle just fine with my husband yesterday and am comfortable swimming, worried about overheating on the run though and it's forecast to be hot in London tomorrow. I am well trained though and it is not my first time covering the distance, and planning to slow down to around 3:20-3:30 when I would have been aiming for sub-3 before.

Sophia1984 · 08/08/2015 12:42

Wow I think triathletes are amazing :) It sounds like you're really well prepared so I think if you feel fine you should go for it. A gentle 10k shouldn't be too bad - just remember to drink lots and lots of water! Good luck :-)

Want2bSupermum · 08/08/2015 20:56

I think 1st trimester is fine. For me I've always struggled with lifting when pregnant. Running, swimming and cycling are no issue for me personally.

I've stepped on the scale and am shocked that I have gained 6lbs in water. It's not particularly hot here so no reason for the retention. Decided I'm doing yoga during this pregnancy. During my first two I didn't live close to anywhere that did affordable classes. This time I can get a monthly membership for $160 which if going to 4 classes a week works out to be a great deal. I did DVDs plus with my first two and it wasn't great. I now walk about 3 miles a day so walking is no issue.

pocopearl · 08/08/2015 22:00

Hey can I join, just got bfp this morning! This will be my DC2, DS1 is 2. EDD is 16th April. :)

Dexlie0806 · 08/08/2015 22:18

Welcome poco and congratulations on your bfp.

Wow I take my hat off to u ladies doing marathons and triathlons. Absolutely brilliant. Good luck to u. In pregnancy I just try to keep active with mainly walking. But tbh this time round having 7 and 3 yr olds will keep me more than busy haha.

I know it's still early days but has anyone thought how they are going to tell their older children. We are going to wait till after the 12 week scan to tell them but I would like it to be really special for them Grin

CousinChloe · 09/08/2015 07:21

Hi all,
Just got a v faint bfp this morning, due 14th April (if I actually am pregnant!). We have a DD already - further adding to the older sister list - and she'll be 2 and a half if this baby arrives on time.

Started feeling sick as soon as I did the test but as it's such early days I think that's probably all in my head! No sickness last time anyway.

spottedquoll · 09/08/2015 07:28

Dexlie, I have a 3 yr old DD and I've no idea how to tell her! Will definitely wait til after 12 weeks. We had an 11 month old to visit for a couple of days this weekend and she was really good with him so I am hopeful she'll be a friendly big sister not a bashy one (most of the time) but it's still going to be a big shock to the system for her not to be the only one...

CousinChloe · 09/08/2015 07:54

I'm scared about that too - we saw some friends who are pregnancy with their second one so I tried to tell her that she had a big tummy because there is a baby in there, but she was totally uninterested and didn't seem at all bothered her little friend is getting a new sibling soon. Just don't think she's going to get it for a while...

spottedquoll · 09/08/2015 08:57

Chloe, when my DD was 2.5 she kept telling me I had a baby in my tummy! I'm sure by the time the new one arrives, your DD will be ready to understand. Grin

Dexlie0806 · 09/08/2015 10:02

Good morning and congratulations on your bfp this morning. Grin

Haha spotted and Chloe I'm sure your dd's will be fine. It is a big change going from 1 to 2 but most adapt easy I think. My ds1 was 3 when ds2 was born and honestly there was no jealously nothing. He adapted straightaway to him and although they fight now they love each other so much. I worried that it had Only been him for so long but it didn't bother him at all.

This time I'm hoping it's going to be the same. Ds2 is more of a mammies boy so i do think he could be a little jealous but we will see.

I ordered a moonpig card last night and have decided that is how we will tell the boys. It just says something a long the lines of "you are going to be big brothers". There is ages till I can tell them but I got excited last night looking at the cards so ordered it Shock

Woke up this morning with really sore boobs. Yeah my first symptom. Hope the rest of u r feeling well Grin
