Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 32nd grads thread... celebrating the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The thread we have graduated from is here in its 50th outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

There is also a Just Mumming thread here for once your babies come along, or to keep up with the graduated graduates!

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

Here is the stats list, please update your own spot with any updates.

Oh, and also....don't let them put you on the sliding scale drip at the start of contractions unless you actually need it, test a lot and see how it goes. I didn't want to lose the self control, and actually kept my sugars so well that I did 2 days induction then an emcs with no insulin/glucose drip at all, so don't feel you have no control over it Grin

MollyBloomYes · 13/07/2015 21:02

looking I tried my darndest to express but just wasn't happening for me so we used formula for DH to take over with if he took ds out so it old have a blissful lie in! This was from about 4/5 weeks. Others I know had pints of breastmilk going spare but my body was just very economical-didnt really need breastpads a couple of weeks after delivery! The mix of bottle and boob worked fantastically so I'm hoping to do the same this time!

la I now want a massive curry takeaway. Sorry about your hips though that sounds brutal.

Purpleball · 13/07/2015 21:05

Thanks Zyla I'm having an ELCS so I should be fine
I'm going to take snacks for me as well as DH to keep my sugar stable

oneyorkshirepud · 13/07/2015 21:26

Indigo/Rpopz more than happy for you guys to disagree with me Smile I read a really interesting literary review of BFing research which suggested that many of the common health benefit claims that are shown to be true in studies (less obesity, higher intelligence etc) may not actually be based on sound research. However, this particular paper refuted these claims based on the fact that the studies are somewhat flawed. It is obviously somewhat unethical/impossible to run standardised double blind trials of breast milk Vs formula and that in the UK especially BFing tends to (not always!) happen in middle class families for example and the other benefits that may go along with that (better diet, earlier exposure to language - this is the paper's findings not mine!) were skewing the results. When all of this was taken into account the only benefit that could be 'proven' was a reduction in tummy bugs. Now, that is not to say that BFing didn't have an impact on these things, but it couldn't be proven to be a causal link as there were so many other factors.

Having said that, I hate being told what to do ha ha, so I find the whole HCPs/media propaganda of breast is best somewhat irksome (even though I do plan to BF) and therefore am aware that I am not necessarily reading papers with the most objective of mindsets! Irrespective of this it was a really interesting read, I will try to find a link to the original paper next week when I get my life back.

Is it just me or does anyone else trust pregnancy/birthage/feeding advice less than they would advice for a medical condition? I just always feel as though there are agendas with these particular topics, whereas I wouldn't have the same 'suspicions' with say, treatment for a cough. Just me?

Looking, I could feel something at 15 weeks and can feel it stronger now so it could be the baby, eek exciting!!

Ga, sorry you feel horrible pet. Flowers

DulcetMoans · 13/07/2015 21:33

No baby, been to yoga to try relax and tempt the little sod out!

Probably not much to add to the BF chat. I intend to try and try my hardest but I know it's not easy.

Could be movements looking, pooping is the right sort if feeling. Yay!

Your poor neighbour ga! What flavour did she have, do you know?

oneyorkshirepud · 13/07/2015 21:39

Pooping?! Grin

DulcetMoans · 13/07/2015 21:39

Haha. Well there is a lot about pooping in this pregnancy process...

ChatEnOeuf · 13/07/2015 21:43

Yep, Zyla. 2.6 is the magic number to aim for :)

There's thousands of confounders in BF studies, but the evidence is there for many benefits. Unfortunately, it's such an emotive subject, it's a victim of bias in almost every form.

I just cried watching Only Connect because VC was pregnant and due when I was. Have officially lost it.

ZylaB · 13/07/2015 21:45

I did plenty of pooping until the iron tablets after having her..........

ZylaB · 13/07/2015 21:46

chat huuuugs for you!

Purpleball · 13/07/2015 21:49

Thanks Chat, I'm sorry you feel sad lovie Thanks keeping everything crossed for Friday for you

Excited to hear about new movements, it's so lovely. My very favourite thing at the moment is to go lie on my side and have a bit of us time, just me and purplebaby. I talk to him and he tries to kick his way out Smile

Made a giant chilli tonight to freeze for when he arrives, then DH can just nuke a portion for me and I'll try not to drop any on baby's head Grin

gaggiagirl · 13/07/2015 21:54

chat its totally ok for you too feel like that. Have a good cry.

indigo I've had a word with myself. Hardness has resumed, although I did vom up my chips. Chips are very precious!

dulcet she had a boy of course. The girl front is so quiet.

Purpleball · 13/07/2015 22:05

Ga hope you feel better soon, what a waste of chips!

pretzelpieces · 13/07/2015 22:19

ga sorry you're feeling poorly Thanks

la sorry your hips hurt, that sounds horrible. Hurry up mini la!

looking how exciting!!

SecondCupOfTea · 13/07/2015 22:22

First 'appointment' done and dusted. GP laughingly referred to me as hyper-fertile by conceiving so soon after having my implant removed Grin She didn't think I'd be referred for an early scan just cos I is old, so we'll look at a private scan around 7 weeks.

My mum called me today and seems much less shocked and started discussing logistics. I think part of her shock was that she thought it was unplanned. My dad chatted to me about the weather, cars, gardening, alcohol-free beer...and not a mention of the pregnancy again Grin I think it's all a bit too overwhelming for him.

Purpleball · 13/07/2015 22:27

It can be a lot to take in especially if you're not expecting it. I shocked a few people as I was never bothered for years til I met DH but didn't share it with the world

La hope you have a pain free night, come on minila time to give your mummy a break Smile

LaLaLaaaa · 13/07/2015 22:28

Chat I think that's a bloody normal reaction to be honest and I'm very sad for you. You've definitely not lost it! Hug for you x

Ga is that still MS or are you ill? Your poor NDN! Hope you feel better soon. All the folk I know in RL have been having girls!

Looking that's exciting! I bet it is the baby!

Molly my sil is combo feeding just now and it's working so far, she's in USA so has to go back to work after 4 weeks. She's panicking about being able to express enough for my bro to feed so they're topping up with formula

Im afraid I don't understand the bit you said about there being an agenda with bf research pud? I would have thought it would make more financial sense for formula companies to be manipulating data to promote their products than for folk to be promoting something that's free and has health benefits. That's what happens in the animal world - the vets are often sponsored by pet food companies and it's in their interests to sell/promote food.

Tea it sounds like your DM had a big of time to get her head around it and has come round. That's fab Grin

MiniLa has been told tomorrow is the big day!

deeplybaffled · 13/07/2015 22:48

I agree, la that an agenda behind ff would make more sense, but i think i know what pud means - bf does seem to get rammed down your throat , with campaigns everywhere from radio stations to the back of buses. I do want to give it a go, but after hearing from a friend who thinks she verged on pnd because she couldn't do it and felt such a failure, that I'd rather they backed off a bit from the pressure.
I'm all for support and assistance for those that want to do it, and hope to benefit from it myself, but do find the moral high ground taken by some advocates of it more than a tad irritating.

rant over...for now :)

RPopz · 13/07/2015 22:48

I do see your points pud. And I can totally understand the militancy that arises from having something shoved down your throat all the time by hcps. You're not the first person I've heard say that. It's a shame that there's almost a backlash against bfing in certain demographics because of it...

La I don't know, just hypothesising, but not sure if formula companies are allowed to publish research on how great their formula is? (In the same way they're not allowed to advertise on tv etc)

Hugs chat xx Thanks

gaggiagirl · 13/07/2015 22:51

la not ms I just over heated, had no sleep and feel rubbish. I dont do well on little sleep.
I was trying to watch RuPaul and missed 15 mins cos the universe has just rained out of my arse. Bleh.

Indigoblue2 · 13/07/2015 22:59

ga go to bed!!!

LaLaLaaaa · 13/07/2015 23:03

Oh no ga! You need to rewind it Grin

Yeah I agree - there's a lot of militant bf folk and I do feel for anyone who comes up against them when struggling. As I say I've no idea how I'll get on with it, but see if I don't get on well and someone tries to guilt trip me - they'll get told soon enough where to go!

pretzelpieces · 13/07/2015 23:10

I think there's always a lot of agenda around anything to do with pregnancy etc because of stuff to do with women's bodies/policing women's sexuality blah blah. We've got to be told we're always doing something wrong to keep us in our place, haven't we! Wink

I'm going to try my best to breastfeed but I know it doesn't work out for everyone.

honeysucklejasmine · 13/07/2015 23:12

Oh Ga! Get some sleep, you dafty. Hope you feel better I'm the morning.

I will try to breastfeed. If I do, fab, cause it's free. If not, oh well. Smile

LaLaLaaaa · 13/07/2015 23:21

Is it time for me to lower the tone? I got excited because I had pains.

But it was just wind...

Nighty night!
