Lookingfornadvice I have had this as well, I always feel like my breath stinks! I try drink heaps of water, and usually have mints handy to mask the taste.

LilDuck · 21/06/2015 08:49

Possibly but I can't see them until monday, then I have to wait for an epu app. I suppose it's rock/hard place. Presumably a&e have ultrasounds on site?

meggy22 · 21/06/2015 08:51

Could you try your gp lilduck? They usually refer to epu for scans. You might have a long wait in a and then they might just give you an appointment in epu in a few days for a scan. I have the sour taste too, it's horrible.

Kiwigirl23 · 21/06/2015 08:53

I would go for piece of mind? but I worry about everything. My gp said at the start if I had any bleeding etc to get it checked just in case.

meggy22 · 21/06/2015 08:54

Sorry meant to say lilduck if you ring 111 they will get you an appointment at the out of hours gp, maybe they can refer to epu I'm not sure. Or they might just tell you to go to a and e in which case that may be your only option. Hope all is okay x

Oysterbabe · 21/06/2015 08:59

You might need to wait until tomorrow then and see your gp? I'm sure they can arrange you a scan pretty quick. A&E might send you away as it's not an accident or emergency as there's really nothing they can do even if the worst is happening (which I'm sure it's not).

ValancyJane · 21/06/2015 09:10

lil If it was me I'd go to a&e - you may have to wait but they will do a scan. Big hugs and crossing fingers for you!

ValancyJane · 21/06/2015 09:12

Possibly stupid question - have you checked the EPU doesn't open Sundays? I assumed they didn't, but just googled and noticed one near me is open today.

loveulotslikejellytots · 21/06/2015 09:32

Hi to all the newbies and hand holding for anyone that needs it. Sorry for not coming back yesterday, my moan worked. Midwife turned up about ten minutes after I posted.

She was actually quite nice, she had a student with her as well who did a lot of it, she was lovely. Asked a lot of questions and took blood. She has put me a week ahead of where I think I am because they base it of a 28 day cycle. She said not to worry, they would probably change it again at my scan. Someone was asking about the nuchal fold measurement, I had to sign a card yesterday to give to the sonographer to say I wanted them to check this at the scan and I also wanted the blood test. Maybe phone and check if your not sure.

The only slightly disappointing thing, and it is only slight is that I can't give birth in the mlu. One because I have a high bmi but I'm also a carrier of a blood clotting disorder, during pregnancy there are higher risks of spontaneous clotting or DVT so they need to keep an eye on me. I wasn't too happy but my midwife said that they are currently installing birthing pools and home from home type rooms in the delivery suite. So there isn't much difference between the two now.

I haven't got a scan date yet, she was emailing the scan department yesterday, and has given me their number. I have to phone them tomorrow and badger them for a date, she did say that with it being a Monday they may not have processed the forms by tomorrow but to phone again Tuesday and keep phoning until they give me one! She said I'll need to be quite forceful, they really won't mind. So I need to find some assertiveness from somewhere!

So, after all my moaning and worrying I felt a lot better! What are you all up to today for Father's Day? I'm off out for lunch later with mum, dad and my 2 brothers.

Pugmumlondon · 21/06/2015 09:35

I'd try and get an appointment at an EPU or go to an urgent care centre. It's really not appropriate for A&E I'm sorry and it will probably cause far more anxiety as you will be bottom of the list as far as triage.

Failing that, watch and wait today (I know it's hard) and get a GP appt on mon am as an emergent. I'm sure they will refer you to EPU xx

brickiemum2 · 21/06/2015 09:35

I was told a&e can't/won't ultrasound to confirm an on going pregnancy. They will manage your health if you are bleeding excessively etc but that's all.
Hope it stops as quickly as it did last time lilduck

brickiemum2 · 21/06/2015 09:38

Just to add I was told this during my last pregnancy which was heading towards mc as our epu is only open weekdays 9-4. They said out with that a&e would see me if I felt my health was in danger over the weekend but to try and wait for them to open.

floodwoman23 · 21/06/2015 09:41

loveyoulots is that APS? I have it too - my first pregnancy was a challenge to say the least! Hoping this one will be a lot easier now it's under control with medication. Is this your first pregnancy?

Pugmumlondon · 21/06/2015 09:42

tots thanks for the info re. The nuchal fold - will deffo ring and check or ensure it will be covered, at my scan.

Glad all went well!

loveulotslikejellytots · 21/06/2015 09:52

flood no it's factor V Leiden. My Aunite has it, my dad is a carrier and I am a carrier. I think it means I have one out of the two genes for it, having one gene doesn't usually cause any problems but during pregnancy it can apparently play havoc with blood pressure, blood clotting etc. so midwife has prescribed aspirin which I need to take from Monday when I pick it up.

Lookingforadvice123 · 21/06/2015 09:58

lilduck I would ring your gp first thing tomorrow and ask for an urgent appointment, tell them you're pregnant and have had bleeding and are worried. The GP should refer you for a scan but it might not be for a few days, so if you're really worried I would try and get a private scan of the one at EPAU isn't for a while. Sending you lots of luck, there's several things it could be which don't involve miscarriage but it's best to get it checked out either way xx

mrschatty · 21/06/2015 10:04

lilduck hope your ok love let us know xx
Welcome to all newbies!

My fatigue feels as bad this weekend as first few weeks... Have slept SOLIDLY for 12 he there...wow
Cooking a meal for fathers day today...whyyyy did I not just offer to take him out Sad

mrsfazruns · 21/06/2015 10:14

I work in A&E and we see pregnant women with bleeds quite regular!! No one will say it's inappropriate and in fact I think guidelines say either Gp or A&E! Unfortunatly they won't do a scan but will refer you to EPAU or Gynae .... If they are busy they will give you an appt for a scan within a day or so or of your lucky might fit you in that day (really just depends on what is going on that day)

OR .... If you don't want to go to A&E and risk a long queue then call 111 who will either refer to on call gp or maybe even straight to the EPAU direct if you have a good service locally!

Hope that helps!

SleepyDragon · 21/06/2015 10:16

Morning all....

Hello newbies and G'luck lilduck

Our family Father's Day/MIL Birthday meal last night was good. Had a lovely sharer platter then I ordered fish n chips as they looked lush, had 2 mouthfuls however and it sat like a rock instantly making me queasy! So I picked and poked till it looked like if eaten more and went straight to dessert Confused

Got home about 11ish went to bed an hour later, fell straight arep then woke up at 1am feeling sick as a dog and it's not worn off yet! Sad

Hope you all have a lovely day, I'm craving a cheese and tomato roll but not sure I can stomach it yet lol!

floodwoman23 · 21/06/2015 10:38

loveyoulots I think I've heard of that. It's good that they're aware of it - hopefully you'll have a lovely stress free pregnancy!

lilduck fx crossed all is ok for you.

fishermanswife1 · 21/06/2015 10:40

Aw blackandwhite, I just feel I'm complaining all the time! I know I'm lucky. DH has been fab doing more house work. I've not long left bed and he's already got a curry from scratch bubbling in the slow cooker so we only need to think about rice tonight. He's a good egg.

He was very seriously ill a few years ago, so much so I became his full time carer for 6 months. Now he's better but it means he keeps saying, it's my turn to look after you now! I keep reminding him, I'm pregnant not ill. But I'm so thankful on bad days

Lookingforadvice123 · 21/06/2015 10:42

sleepy my first really bad day of sickness (about 5 weeks ago now!) was after takeaway fish and chips! Haven't had it since...sure it was something to do with the greasiness etc!

Blackandwhitecat3 · 21/06/2015 10:43

Good luck lilduck and missmartin hope that it's all nothing to worry about. When I had my spotting I rang 111 out of hours and then also rang the GP out of hours and a Dr rang me back really quickly - she got the 111 referral before the message from her own receptionist! I don't know if it's just my area but I really impressed with 111. I only had a tiny bit of bleeding but no one made me feel I was being silly, so if you want to get it checked out with a scan, don't be afraid to ask.

After all my moaning yesterday, I've woken up this morning feeling amazing! V. Little nausea (just enough to stop me worrying I have no symptoms), full of energy and positivity and v hungry. Have just inhaled lots of peanut butter and toast. I cannot explain what a relief this is.

I'm 11 weeks tomorrow and I really hope this means that "the builders have finished work on the placenta" and the second trimester is looming large on the horizon. Someone please remind me of this if I feel yuck again tomorrow. Grin

Welcome meggy and flood and many congratulations!

fishermanswife1 · 21/06/2015 10:46

Yokil I had cramps around weeks 8 and 9. Found warm baths and short walks helped. If it is trapped gas, my pharmacist said wind settlers were fine to take and they helped me.

pug my 12 week scan letter confirmed I had booked for the nuchal screening and had info about how they do it etc, so Def worth checking if you want it.

Martin worth checking with mw to get reassurance about spotting. I had it at 8+4 when I would have expected my period. My me said it was prob that. Everyone different and worth making them aware.

Pugmumlondon · 21/06/2015 10:46

Ladies. I need some common sense kicked into me.

I've become obsessed with the fact that there's something wrong. My sickness has abated although food intake is still sometimes a challenge. I have started obsessing about the fact that despite I had an early scan at 7+3 and there was a heartbeat and baby was measured as very well within expected, that I'm going to get to my 12w scan and find the worst.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I know I'm being ridiculous and I keep googling incessantly which isn't helping my anxiety at all.

Not sure what I'm looking for in reply, just willing the next 3 weeks to go quickly. 9 weeks tomorrow!
