I had mw appt this morning. Baby's head engaged (3/5?) good position and ready to go ! 39 weeks tomorrow ???? it has flown in.
Spd is pretty painful. Was v sick during the night and hormones all over the place. My body may be 'niggling'. Got an appt for next week for sweep if I haven't already went.

I am unsure wether I want the sweep or not though. Confused

On the other hand, I'm having serious cravings for ice cream, chocolate, fruit juice and all sorts of yummy stuff and I get to blame the pregnancy Grin I'm having a last tango with over indulging before it's too late Wink

We have/had a name chosen. Decided to keep it to ourselves for all the usual reasons and were really happy with it. My friend badgered it out of me. Then done the face pull, told me someone who has a child named the by it and so on & nevertheless put me off it. Dh is not having it. I now realised why it's best not to tell ... I think we will keep it as it's the only name both if us brought to the table and both loved, he let me say first and it was the same name he was waiting to suggest !?! Think it may have been meant to be. The test will be when we meet lo Smile

Hope everyone is well and good and babies are thriving x

Massive BH contraction last night, woke me up! Up until now they've just been little period-type pains, this felt much like I imagine the real deal will feel! Only 35w so still a while to go (hopefully - stay in there, Mini-Charlie!) but it's definitely exciting. She's been kicking up a storm today.

Only a week until mat leave and I CAN'T WAIT Grin

charlieis30 · 22/06/2015 13:35

arete don't you hate people sometimes? I was talking to a male friend with kids about the naming thing, because I went to a girls' school so have some kind of association with basically all the names (!). He told me that as soon as that baby is out and named, he/she will be that to you, and you'll forget about anything anyone ever said to you about it!

Stinkylinky · 22/06/2015 14:17

arete names will always divide people. I've had a 50/50 split with our name, they either recoil in horror or absolutely love it!

Nesting has seriously kicked in today, been deep cleaning the kitchen for the last two hours. Just sat down for a breather whilst the floors dry. Oh the exciting world of maternity leave!

Aretepetite · 22/06/2015 14:20

Yes Charlie so blinking annoying Angry
I hope that is the case :) not long till the mat leave for you - woohoo :)

smallgreenbanana · 22/06/2015 14:21

The name we've picked could be one of those ones that makes people pull a face, but we think it is really lovely (for several reasons), so obviously we are keeping it to ourselves. If people want to pull a face they can do so after the baby is born and behind our backs, and then pull themselves together to smile when they see us! Grin

I've been listening to hypnobirthing tracks and they all mention eating right and only putting nutritious foods into my body for the baby... I have been craving fruit and vegetables and home cooked food and gone off cheese and chocolate. Amazing the power of suggestion!! Just hope that all the other suggestions about the birth path opening and having an easy birth because I am SOOOOO confident, also comes true!

MustBeLoopy390 · 22/06/2015 14:25

Loads of people hate our name, we've told them that it's our choice and they don't have to call their child it so why should they be arsed? Lol. Hoping I'm getting signs of things ramping up a bit, TMI but been to the toilet 3 times today when I normally have issues and back pain getting worse. Hoping everyone is enjoying/will enjoy their mat leave :) small hypnobirthing is fab! X

Aretepetite · 22/06/2015 14:28

I'm getting bored now Stinky.
I could be clearing out a big cupboard or drawers but seriously cba now. Hopefully I will feel like some more nesting before dday ! It's lovely when it happens, enjoy your clean kitchen Smile

Stinkylinky · 22/06/2015 14:31

Me too arete I'm more than ready for lo to arrive now.

I've got about 2 hours to enjoy my nice, clean kitchen until DP comes home and messes it up again!

Aretepetite · 22/06/2015 14:38

Fx Small For an open birth path :) I think I'll need to start some hypno birthing. My anxiety levels have cranked right up re upcoming labour, in my case, knowledge is Not power..... Confused

Fx for progression for you Must. Here's hoping.

The naming thing is a mine field, I wish I never caved in and told her what we were thinking !! Not to worry.

Aretepetite · 22/06/2015 14:42

Well enjoy your couple of hours Stinky :)
We won't be bored after arrival. I keep thinking if things I can do before hand for myself before dday. I'm afraid the ideas and cash are running low ! SadGrin

charlieis30 · 22/06/2015 14:59

Loving the term "open birth path"! I keep giving DH things to remember during labour like "remind me to breathe in for 4 out for 7" and "keep telling me I'm safe!" from some of my videos/podcasts. Initially I was trying to tell myself not to be afraid of pain but now it's more "ok it's pretty reasonable to be apprehensive, just take each moment as it comes and keep an open mind". Doesn't help that friends I saw on weekend were telling me birth stories and freaking me out about lack of epidural in Birth Centre. Problem is that every time I feel pain at the moment (e.g in hips, or last night's BH) i think "I wonder how this compares to a contraction?"

Aretepetite · 22/06/2015 15:08

Too funny Chalie. I keep thinking Why did I watch every single episode of One born every minute !!!
Grin

Aretepetite · 22/06/2015 15:11

I really shouldn't share this but I'm gonny !
I can't get out of my head the midwife referring up the baby's head crowning as a ' burning ring of fire' Shock
Oh my day's. Who even says that ?
Sorry for sharing Blush

fattymcfatfat · 22/06/2015 15:18

Grin haha! I always thought the ring of fire happened after eating a vindaloo Wink

honestly it is worth every second of pain. if it wasn't nobody would ever have more than 1

Aretepetite · 22/06/2015 15:25

Oh Fatty I know. Dh was with me at mw today and listened intently to suggestions involving hot curries etc. so now I fear numerous bouts of burning ring of fire Blush he is so bloody impatient Shock
Nooooo :)

SueV14 · 22/06/2015 15:33

Hi ladies! It's my first time on this thread, somehow I wasn't so keen on baby talk in early pregnancy but at 34 weeks now I realise I need some company from fellow moms-to-be. Hope I can join you on the ride last minute! ;-)

I'm due July 29, based in London, it's my DC1 and it's a girl. Not sure if I have to enter myself into the spreadsheet? I can open and look at it but can't edit it (at least not from the ipad)....

SueV14 · 22/06/2015 15:42

I was wondering how you all progressing with your shopping list? I'm somewhat reluctant to buy things too long in advance and for now only bought the cotbed & changer and the pushchair & car seat sets, all to be delivered when I'm 37 weeks.

I realise though I need to get a mattress, at least a few clothes and since I'm planning to mix feed formula and expressed breast milk, some bottles and steriliser. Can anyone shed some light on the following:

  • minimum amount of clothes (what do I need??) say for the baby for the first 2 weeks?
  • min. bed sheets/blankets considering the season
  • good breast pump
  • tommee Tippee complete starter kit vs essentials kit. Do we really need everything what's included or is half of it unnecessary?
Aretepetite · 22/06/2015 15:42

Welcome Sue

You can update spreadsheet from a lap top whenever you can. If you cat get access and want your details recorded then feel free to send me a pm and I will enter your details :)

Feel free to ask any questions you may have, 1 of us will always try help or just be here for a gab.
We also have our very own midwife Wink

fattymcfatfat · 22/06/2015 15:45

arete it is all just old wives tales, take no notice. baby will cone when it's ready
sue welcome. don't worry about the spreadsheet I'm sure someone else can add you if you really want but it's not a necessity

SueV14 · 22/06/2015 15:50

Thank you arete and fatty! I'll enter myself when I'm on my laptop next. Btw, I forgot to mention, my baby is stubbornly breach for months now. Been doing all exercise but baby seems unimpressed. Next check-up tomorrow.... Fingers crossed!

Aretepetite · 22/06/2015 16:10

Got cut off there.

Here's some guidelines from the NHS website in for newborn clothes and bedding needs Sue
Summer babies do key is in the layering !

Clothes:

You’ll probably need: MINIMUM

six stretch suits (all-in-ones) for both day and night, or four stretch suits and two nightdresses (nighties) for the night – use socks or bootees with the nightie if it’s cold.
two cardigans, wool or cotton rather than nylon, and light rather than heavy – several light layers of clothing are best for keeping your baby warm.
Six vests.
a shawl or blanket to wrap your baby in.
a wool or cotton hat, mittens, and socks or bootees for going out if the weather is cold.
a sun hat for going out if it's hot or the sun is bright.

Bedding:

a firm mattress that fits the cot snugly without leaving spaces round the edges, so that your baby cannot trap their head.
sheets to cover the mattress – you need at least four because they need to be changed often.
light blankets for warmth.

I will watch what others suggest I. Terms if steriliser etc as I intend to breastfeed so haven't purchased those items yet.

Thanks Fatty x

Number3cometome · 22/06/2015 16:23

Oh well I'm officially in the pre-eclampsia club. Twice weekly monitoring & bloods and now low threshold for delivery if BP rises or protein changes. Not looking like I'll make my Csection date of 14/7.

Hmm
SueV14 · 22/06/2015 17:12

Thank you arete, this is very helpful indeed. good thing its summer and I don't need to buy bulky heavy blankets just yet... Really just want to get the absolute minimum for the first 2-4 weeks as i assume there'll be a) lots of presents anyway and b) by that time i'll figure out what else I really need.

P.S.: i entered myself into the spreadsheet, now officially part of the "community" :-)

Aretepetite · 22/06/2015 17:13

Aw Number I'm sorry to hear that.
You never know. You may still make that date - here's hoping x
