Anyone else feel like buying a pram is as complicated as buying a car??!

I've been looking at a Mutsy Evo (not popular in the UK, I think they're Dutch, but have really good reviews on the continent) mainly because they're robust but not as huge as some and fold down really small. Our car is tiny. It's cheaper than a lot of other brands and you seem to get a lot for your money.

Even so DP's Strikethrough:tightness prudence with money must be rubbing off as I still bawk at paying £500 for a pushchair. What do people think about buying second hand? Most of our stuff is pre owned but with a pram I'm in two minds in case anything breaks and I need the customer service.

The other thing I've been contemplating is just buying a chassis separately. We have a car seat that's compatible. We live in the middle of nowhere so would always have the baby in the car before they go in the pushchair. We walk a lot but in really rough countryside so would have to use a sling for that, and I hope to use a sling more than a pram anyway. Thinking in the long run we could buy a seat unit when they're a bit older and need it. A friend of mine spent a fortune on a bassinet for her Upperbaby and her son HATED it! Am I mad to be dodging the whole pram buying right of passage? :-(

hearthattack · 22/06/2015 08:35

haha oh dear, my typing!

gingerbreadmam · 22/06/2015 09:29

thanks! i know if i do have a coke i limit myself to 1 a day anyway. such fools.

oh wow youve done well with the shopping and everyone else seems to be coming along.

this is my first so i know naff all about prams but i have looked at the uppababy vista and looks nice. think it has good reviews on here too.

sounds like you intend to use a sling alot, everyone on here raves about the baby jogger which is a pushchair suitable from birth and folds really small. might be worth a look.

i think second hand is fine if you can see it and have a good test drive. i only say this as my dps always tell me a story of a second hand pram bought for baby me which the hv said looked 'wonky' so it was skipped straight away Grin

Superexcited · 22/06/2015 09:44

heart we saw the mutsy evo when we bought our pram. It was reduced in the clearance to £250 (but without a car seat). I was tempted as it is a nice looking pram with a good size carrycot but I had already fallen for the Jane epic.

gingerbreadmam · 22/06/2015 10:02

oh super i hadnny glucose test thursday and i am overweight (high bmi start of pregnancy altho dont think ive put much weight on so far just bump) and mine was fine so probs nothing to worry about.

Superexcited · 22/06/2015 10:33

I do expect my glucose test to be positive ginger, I carried excess fluid during both of my previous pregnancies, one was born with low blood sugar and second baby was 10lb which given my size is quite large and over the weight at which they test for diabetes in subsequent pregnancies. I'm not going to worry about it though and will change my diet as and when any tests confirm that I need to. The letter from the hospital says that they can't test until 26 weeks but it seems that it varies according to health authority.

gingerbreadmam · 22/06/2015 10:43

no i think i was tested early because of my babies problems - trying to rule out causes!

well will keep my fingers crossed for you. as you say though easy enough to change diet if needs be.

Ladypug · 22/06/2015 13:25

Thanks for comments everyone, love the bugaboo and the epic so looking at reviews for both, off to view Uppababy last. It's so hard!!!

gingerbreadmam · 22/06/2015 14:13

have fun lady i love looking at prams shamedpisnotaskeen

the bebecar i was after (although in a different colour, but the colour dp prefers) is on offer in argos and just over the budget mil gave us so i think we'll end up with that one. its also the more modern version ive settled on in the end as think it will be easier getting in and out of car. car seat not included unfortunately and id love to get the matching one although i guess its not essential really.

What about this bebecar ginger it's a good price but I'm not sure that this is the chassis that you are after.

gingerbreadmam · 22/06/2015 16:18

just saw the jayne epic matrix on offer on emmas diary. lots of sprung cotbed mattresses too.

is that the mattress to go for a sprung one?

Superexcited · 22/06/2015 16:37

Sprung mattresses are great for cot beds as they offer more support for a heavier older child, foam is okay for cribs or Moses baskets or compact cots as baby will only be little and not as heavy.

gingerbreadmam · 22/06/2015 17:43

bebecar

the link didnt work. thats the argos one tho. we originally wanted the one with the big old pram wheels but i think it will just be heavy and a nightmare to get in and out of car so for price difference and more practicality i think this one is probs a better choice.

Superexcited · 22/06/2015 19:14

I don't know why the link didn't work. It was at winstanleys pram world and was £499 but it was the traditional style chassis (so not the one you were after).

gingerbreadmam · 22/06/2015 19:57

good price tho will have a look anyway Grin the ip op doesnt actually fold down much smaller but think will be lighter.

Adventuregame · 23/06/2015 08:25

Hi old bus friends.

I just fancied reading some nice joyful posts today instead of the heartbraking miscarriage ones so hope you don't mind me hopping back on to say hello !!

So exciting to read about all your bumps and scans and prams !! Gosh hasn't the time gone quickly !! Probably doesn't feel like that for you lot but over half way through for most of you !! What a year !! I'm dreading when my due date should have been but apart from that I'm doing ok !

So my aim is to be pregnant again before you all start popping them out Wink !!!

Take care October bus !!

gingerbreadmam · 23/06/2015 08:49

hey adventure so lovely to hear from you! hope u r ok. my due date from my mmc has just been and gone and quite honestly i didnt even think about it. being pregnant probably helped so im wishimg you al the luck in the world on your ttc journey! not sure if u are going at it this hard but i used the ovia app to map my ovulation following my mmc and as you probs already know i was pg again 6 wks following the mmc. dont know if that helped or not but i like to think it did so might be worth a look.

i did a lot of lying down bum in the air after dtd too Grin very glamorous! good luck. hope u r ok and the mc boards are providing lots of support x

Superexcited · 23/06/2015 20:37

I hope this link works ginger

It's the bebecar ip OP at kiddies kingdom, apparently they will price match and give another 10% of the difference off if you find if cheaper.

gingerbreadmam · 23/06/2015 21:24

ooh you are amazing at baby shopping! thats a great price with the car seat have saved the link thanks a lot!

Emma321q · 23/06/2015 22:51

Hi all

Hope you are all well. I have achieved very little this evening as I have become obsessed with looking at prams and travel systems on the Internet. It is so hard to choose!

The baby has been in fine form tonight with plenty of movement.

How is everyone else getting on?

Ladypug · 24/06/2015 07:08

Hi Adventure,

Lovey to hear from you! I guess time is flying, sometimes I feel like it's dragging though lol. I hope you're ok, please keep us updated if you conceive! Just to update everyone - we chose the bugaboo - can't believe we've got a pram coming! It's all getting pretty real now!

Ladypug · 24/06/2015 07:08

Ps Ginger, love your bum in the air tales! :-)

gingerbreadmam · 24/06/2015 09:11

ooh lady how exciting. i'm getting apprehensive now, my job has just been advertised for maternity cover and I keep going in my head july...august...September...baby! I mean its exciting but where has the time gone, i'm not ready yet!

oh yes I would constantly lay with my legs up against the headboard bum raised and mn for half an hour - it worked!

I have another scan today ihatescans hoping nothing has changed apart from grown obviously ha! Actually I hope that they see his right leg bends although if not at least we already know that if that makes sense.

Feel like all we do lately is go to hospital, my mil is in the same one. she is an alcoholic and had liver failure so in the middle of a detox at the mo. I am working full time, doing nightly hospital visits, trying to move house, finish off baby things and get excited / prepared for my beautiful boy coming! no wonder time feels like its going fast all of a sudden.

gingerbreadmam · 24/06/2015 19:01

just a quickie to say scan went well everything is coming along fine. still got clubfeet and issue with right let which i doubt are going to change now but a bit of good news is they dont actually think he has a curve in his spine which is great news for us!

wish my dm wasnt such a drama queen at times tho. his poorly leg is bent as if you were kneeling down and its been like that at the last two scans so they think its fixed and shes saying oh that wont be comfortable. im like ffs did u really need to say that? grrr. cnt be mad too long tho she has just rang and said she is ordering cot and changing table Grin

Stinkersmum · 24/06/2015 21:25

Good old DM! We've decided on our pram (Urbo2) for 'home' here in the ME but we're not ordering it until August. I'm heading back to the UK for the birth and my brother still has his 7 year old daughters pram/car seat etc in immaculate condition so I'll be having that for my UK stays. Saves buying everything twice! Has anyone done any research on slings? I think I'll be travelling back and forth to the UK on my own with the baby a few times a year and I'm trying to get my head around the logistics of that. DH bought me all new spinner luggage which is easier to manoeuvre but I'm still a bit Hmm about how many pairs of hands I'll need....
