gingerbreadmam · 19/05/2015 19:20

oh i love that everyone is getting to the buying stage how exciting. lots of girls just announced too. wow!

i get little movements now i think but not massively obvious and not a lot. i am worried about the big ones i must admit will be a strange sensation.

Stinkersmum · 19/05/2015 20:35

I've still not actually bought anything yet. But DH and I did look round mothercare etc after pram decision day looking at babygrows etc. I had to explain to him what I will and won't dress our baby in, in the hope that he remembers and relays it to his family so that we don't end up with a load of baby denim/branded/stuff with words on/themed clothing that I will never use. I have made a list of stuff we need to buy for the nursery though. But that's as far as I dare to go at the moment....

gingerbreadmam · 19/05/2015 20:44

oh stinkers i have a huge list of things i hate too and really want to tell everyone but darent Blush i hatttee character stuff (mickey mouse, tigger that kind of thing) and anything with mum or mummy splashed across it. will probs get loads and have to at least do the obligatory photo. dreading it.

mountainofdreams · 19/05/2015 20:47

Haha stinkers I did the same except I told DP mother directly!
My rules are also no denim, no brash logos and no sporty looking clothes!!
She was fine about it and even better it's pretty much her taste also so no clash there!
I haven't found much clothes to my taste in the shops but I do quite like the Jools Oliver collection in Mothercare.

mountainofdreams · 19/05/2015 20:53

Be brave ginger ! I told DP mother as I know she will be the most regular family purchaser of baby clothes!
I actually told her anything on my 'no' list will be going to the charity shop.
Luckily she has similar taste to me so didn't mind but I'm glad I put it out there.
She has quite classy taste but weirdly she can get carried away when in cheap shops (something like that show where posh people were introduced to poundland!!) Haha.

Coolchic12 · 19/05/2015 20:56

Stinkers I feel relieved I'm not the only one who hasn't bought anything. We are however looking around and have started a list of big items like pram, sling, changing table and sleeping solution, I think we've decided on snuzpod. I think we'll leave clothes for later, maybe end August/ beg sept.

gingerbreadmam · 19/05/2015 20:59

haha i dont think i dare. i wish i did but i dont. i suppose wearing it once wont do anyone any harm especially if were stuck in the house feeding all day or something Grin

if im with someone and we see baby stuff tho i will say oh i dont like stuff like that and hopefully theyre half paying attention.

we havent bought a lot, definitely not anything big. im not going to bother much with clothes just a few sleepsuits and one outfit dp and i pick once we know the sex.

Stinkersmum · 19/05/2015 21:30

Ginger/Mountain I just can't bear little babies in grown up clothes. Sleepsuits and rompers are the way forward! No cartoon characters, no logos or captions, I hate all that cutsie shit. I quite like jojo Sleepsuits though. Luckily so does my mil/sil. I sound so ungrateful don't I?! Although I did laugh at the photo comment ginger, that was funny and probably will happen Grin

Coolchic I know everything in my head! I want the sleepyhead, the babymoov cushion, the Urbo2 travel system minus carry cot (don't need it), baby monitor blah blah. But until my 20 week scan is clear (weekend after this, a couple of close family members have had tragic 20 week scans), I just can't bring myself to buy anything. We plan to do all our buying in August.

lalalemon · 19/05/2015 21:30

I'm 17+4 and have been seeing Spud move since 17 weeks on the dot! Seems to love the shower and Ice cream and starts bouncing around my belly like a mad thing! So amazing to see! Even managed to video a bit of it for my Mum to see!

We are team yellow and keeping it a surprise! Do we need to tell them at the scan that we don't want to know? Scan 2 weeks today, can't wait to see Spudly again!

Stinkersmum · 19/05/2015 21:34

lala I would tell them that you don't want to know from the off. We're team yellow too and my doctor nearly told me at 12 weeks! I've had no movements that I recognise yet. I'm 19 weeks today. I do have an anterior placenta though which might make it more difficult to feel movements right now.

gingerbreadmam · 19/05/2015 21:46

i like babies to look like babies too so sleepsuits all the way and if mine is a boy as i suspect maybe some soft jersey / cotton dungaree sets. i already have some hand knitted cardis and crochet hats things like that. they grow up too fast theres plenty of times for outfits.

alien11 · 20/05/2015 07:24

Hi all, haven't been back for a while as find Facebook group easier to access.
All going ok here currently 20+ 6 , team yellow although pretty strong feeling it's a girl and from the sonographers comments when dh asked if she actually saw the sex " I didn't really look but couldn't see anything obvious"...
Baby loves to move around in the evening same as dd but has been having some kicks during the day too.
I'm saving money up to buy stuff nearer the time. My mums buying the pushchair as our gift :-) so lovely of her!!at the mo in gearing towards the uppababy vista 2015 model.

Still undecided re sleeping arrangements- Moses basket or bednest?!

stinkersmum I'm the same re buying much nearer the time. I have also had a few friends have major problems come up with the 20 wk scan.

lalalemon we told the sonographer we didn't want to know, she didn't ask so we just made sure we told her.
She told us to look away when she was near the area.
gingerbreadmam I'm the same re sleep suits, soooo cute!!

flipflump · 20/05/2015 08:08

Another self confessed clothing snob, we were given a mountain of clothes and I'd picked out bits myself so he didn't get round to wearing slogans or denim, I gave those to the local childrens centre, they were gratefully received and went to families in need. He didn't wear jeans until his first birthday as they didn't look comfortable. I struggle with clothes now as he's only little and most shops want boys to look like men. Highly recommend Zara, it's my go to. I buy plain bits from H&M too.

LexiLexi · 20/05/2015 08:22

Morning ladies, just been catching up. Lovely to hear about everyone's pink/blue announcements and wriggly babies!

Off to my first Consultant appointment this morning, bit nervous as I've no idea what to expect. Also will have my toddler with me, so hope I can get a word in edge ways!

Flipflump was just writing a post about clothes! I think it's harder to find decent boys clothes as literally only a third of shelf space is for boys.

For those of you on team yellow looking for ideas in colours other than white (we really struggled last time), or those not wanting a sea of pink or blue, we like the following, all available online Polarn o Pyret (some lovely unisex items in the Originals range and they wash and wear really well), Boys and Girls (entire range is unisex), Little Bird by Joules (also in Mothercare), Olive and Moss, Toby Tiger (gorgeous rainbow items). Ted Baker do some good unisex dungarees in their boys section. None of the above contain cartoons or slogans like "Dude"!

Fabuluce · 20/05/2015 08:39

I'm a clothes snob too - babies should look like babies surely? Thankfully I didn't watch Blinging Up Baby last night or I might have thrown a shoe at the telly! How people can do that to their innocent little beauties I have no idea! Babies are so scrumptious they don't need fancy clothes to take away from that. Sleep suits and similar are just perfect Smile.

I haven't bought a single thing yet either although we have been given a very cute strawberry knitted hat and a couple of those snuggly comforter thingies (you can tell this is my first!). I'm not religious and don't believe in fate etc but....but...I just don't feel comfortable buying anything until I'm at least over half way there and I've got a few weeks to get to that point yet! I have my list though and will be ready once I'm ready iykwim Grin

I'm also team yellow! Mainly because if we have a girl I really hate pink and I'd like to avoid as much pink stuff as humanely possible. My sil told me off for not finding out as she needs to prepare (which is code for buy as much pink clothing as she can afford!). Shudders.

batfish · 20/05/2015 09:18

Ooh new thread, I've been MIA for too long!

lala I've been trying out the nickname Spud too! Can't get used to using a nickname though to be honest - feels like when I've tried to name my car and it just doesn't stick. Will have to stick to the affectionate 'it' for now I think!

scatterbrainedlass · 20/05/2015 09:56

Batfish, we're the same, 20 week scan in 2 weeks, but we're staying team yellow. Baby is referred to as 'it', it seems so impersonal but I really don't know what else to call it!!

I'm buying things as I see good deals come up, but not really buying clothes, as they are small things that people can buy for us if they want to give a gift. If we find we're short on stuff I'll just have to send DH out or order a bunch of babygros online or something!

gaggiagirl · 20/05/2015 16:38

toast no I'm not finding out the sex. Were not buying anything either we've got enough stuff left over from DD so that'll have to do.
Once you've had one baby the buying fever reduces to zero for subsequent babies. I have no desire to buy anything. I'll have to buy nappies once its born though.

OP posts:
lalalemon · 20/05/2015 17:22

Batfish, baby has been Spud/Spudly from day one! No idea where it came from, but it's definitely stuck! Everyone refers to baby as Spud, even my Mum who thinks she's posh! Also much nice than calling baby it! Although we do keep accidently calling Spud he!

Anyone thought of any names yet? We've got lots we like but I don't understand how people can choose a name before they've seen the baby! BIL and his gf have had their little girls name since about 8 weeks! How do you know it'll suit a name til you see them?!

gingerbreadmam · 20/05/2015 17:39

dp jus lifted my top up to give bump a stroke and i have a little prickly rash all over. nice. spoke to midvives to be on safe side said likely to be heatrash as has been warm today. must admit im never warm however my boobs have a temperature all of their own lately.

we find out the sex of the baby two weeks today. dont have any nicknames think due to what happened in the past we havent got as connected to this one which is a little sad but that should all change in 2 weeks Grin

weve given up talking names too dp likes what i call boring names and im going more the other way. i really do love baxter for a boy. i like surname names find them quite strong and masculine plus dps surname begins with a b and i also like that too. think baxter brookes (i appreciate this is not to everyones tastes!)

Ca55andraMortmain · 20/05/2015 17:53

I'm trying to stop myself buying clothes too, as has already been said, it's an easy thing for people to get as gifts once baby is born, but it's so hard when you have specific taste in clothes!
After weeks of intense discussion we have names for a boy and a girl, although I think the girl one could change as I dont love it as much as the boy name! Hoping not though as all the discussion was a bit stressful, we dont have similar taste at all!

batfish · 21/05/2015 09:50

Well I thought we had a girl's name sorted since ages ago - Eva Rose (Eva was my Nannan's name and I love it and Rose was hubby's grandma's name and I also love that too). However we may have hit a stumbling block as it turns out that hubby thought we were hyphenating it to Eva-Rose and I think that sounds like a gypsy name (really hope I'm not offending anyone here) - so I don't like his version and he doesn't like Eva with Rose as middle name! Really hoping he changes his mind - don't want to force him into it of course and there are actually loads of girls names I like but I'm really attached to this one!

I really like baxter brookes, cute!

gaggiagirl · 21/05/2015 10:04

We've got our girls name all sorted. We aren't choosing a boys name because its sooooo hard.

OP posts:
gingerbreadmam · 21/05/2015 10:20

Eva Rose is lovely either way. Fwiw i dont think it sounds very gypsy hyphenated and tbh i think sometimes when you hyphenate people always drop the second part anyway if you would be prepared to risk that? My dn is something-rose but is only ever called by the first part.

aww thank you. weve had a mixed bag of responses some people really like it some people just give us that face. I'm not fussed really as long as we do. not like any of my family have picked amazing names for their dc Grin .

my dp is a massive sports man and really loves Floyd. i like that its different but cnt picture any other floyd than mayweather.

i really like lola for a girl. its boring and plain and doesnt do the b b thing but i just think its so cute but even when i say it the song pops straight into my head.
