Noticed we were getting a bit full in the last thread! Roll up, roll up for more scanning, puking, worrying and other distractions to take us through the first trimester! Grin

Oh metal that is really worrying for you, it will be a long wait but the chances are in your favour. Big hugs.

Congrats fizzie and sparrow

I am feeling rotten, think it is a cold rather than anything else. Boo.

Hummingbird15 · 03/06/2015 17:54

Hi Metal, sorry to hear your worrying news, at least you've been able to book a harmony test so hopefully you'll have much clearer results in under 3 weeks time. Thinking of you during the wait though.

TreeSparrow · 03/06/2015 18:33

Apologies for asking this. What is the harmony test?

chopsface · 03/06/2015 18:48

Congrats for your scans fizzie and sparrow! And good luck tomorrow for yours Sharon!

Sorry you're not happy with the downs test metal. This is why I was thinking of cancelling ours as do I really want to know? Would it change anything for you if you found out the bean did have down's?

MarkingMyPlace9 · 03/06/2015 19:30

Sorry to hear that Metal Fingers crossed for you xx

AmberLav · 03/06/2015 19:45

Sorry that you got that higher risk result Metal - I have seen much worse results turn out fine, so fx. I know that any of the chromosomal abnormalities that can show up from the nucal tests would make a difference to me, I have read too many stories about the difficulties of looking after a middle aged downs "child" and pressures on the whole family - it's not the baby stage that worries me, as all babies are equally helpless when born, but it can be a lifelong commitment, and it may be a lifelong commitment for other children you have... sorry, I know that can be a controversial opinion, but it's mine...

TheBabyFacedAssassin · 03/06/2015 19:48

Oh Metal so, so sorry to hear about your worrying result. I'm sure your heart hit the floor when you heard the news. I'm glad you are booked in for the harmony test, hopefully the results come back quickly. We are all here for you to hold your hands and wish these next couple of weeks away as fast as possible.

Metalhead · 03/06/2015 20:12

Thanks for all the well wishes ladies, it means a lot!

tree the harmony test is a blood test that's not routinely available on the NHS (though it is being trialled in some areas) where they look for baby's DNA in the mother's blood and test that for chromosome abnormalities.

Like you amber I think for us a diagnosis of Downs would change things massively, I'm not sure I'd be strong enough to face up to a lifelong commitment of caring for a (possibly quite significantly) disabled child. I find parenting quite hard as it is!

chopsface · 03/06/2015 20:16

Dh Was worried about a down's babybut I think I could cope. What worries me more than the learning and development issues, is the possible heart conditions of these kids! I've known and worked with, as a Barnardo's volunteer years ago, several down's kids and they were warm, funny and caring. I know 2 of these kids are now adults and are living independantly (with help) and def one of them has a job. Its not all doom and gloom. My opinion.

Hummingbird15 · 03/06/2015 20:36

With absolutely no reason at all I'm feeling sorry for myself tonight - feel emotional for no reason and completely knackered after a late night last night. In bed at 8.30 and hoping to feel brighter again tomorrow! Sorry for moaning! Good night.

TreeSparrow · 03/06/2015 20:54

Hummingbird we all need a moan every so often. I'm finding sleeping really difficult at the moment. It takes me hours to get off to sleep and I'm hampered by having to be up three or four times to wee each night. Tiring!

AmberLav · 03/06/2015 20:58

Yes, I'm not enjoying the pregnancy insomnia, I don't remember having it the last two times... had to get up at midnight last night to make myself a ham sandwich as the insomnia had lapsed into nausea!

TerryTheGreenHorse · 03/06/2015 21:02

Sorry to hear that Metalhead, I really hope you get a better picture from the harmony.

Rudawakening · 03/06/2015 22:22

Sorry to hear about the NT test results metal praying for good news from your harmony test.

ChandlersFarang · 04/06/2015 02:55

Really sorry to hear you've got this worry on your hands Metal!! Harmony is super precise though from what I've heard - as someone else said the stats are definitely on your side even now so try to remain positive if that's possible for you.

My 12 week scan was yesterday - I'm not going to get my blood test results back for another fortnight but so far looked normal (hearing your news Metal reminds me not to get ahead of myself!). In the meantime exactly the same boat as you Fizzie, congrats - told DP's parents on Skype last night, they absolutely loved it! Not telling anyone else til we get back to the UK from 20th June... We want to tell the rest face-to-face. Smile

Morning all, I think I'm a bit hormonal this morning. I nearly cried whilst walking to the station as I was thinking about the end to the Disney film Tangled. Its going to be a long day.

Rudawakening · 04/06/2015 08:55

wonky I cried at a bug in my car the other day! Not because i was scared but because it was cute! At this rate it will be a long 6 months :)

Cariad2014 · 04/06/2015 09:58

Here to hand hold Metal. Sorry you're having to go through this.

The wait will no doubt be agonising but as others have said, the odds are definitely in your favour. I shall be keeping everything crossed for you.

Sending enormous un-mumsnetty hugs your way.

Sweets27 · 04/06/2015 10:04

metal, really sorry to hear about such a scary result from the NT test. As everyone has said, the odds are still most certainly in your favour but I know it must have been heart-stopping to get that news and the wait now must be really difficult. Thoughts with you, and hope the harmony test gives you some helpful answers.

ThreeBeanRap · 04/06/2015 10:23

fairydogmother similar to you I was originally 1st Dec but moved a few days at my 12 week scan so am now late Nov. So I feel that I'm cheating slightly but it is nice to be out in front! I'm 15 weeks today and feeling loads better physically, but like wonkydonk and hummingbird and others I have been so emotional the last couple of days. I've been crying non stop in the evenings telling DH that I've become fat and boring and he's bound to lose patience and leave me...he thinks I've gone mad I think. Hormones have a lot to answer for!!

Metal I'm so sorry you're having a worrying time. The chance of anything being wrong is so much smaller than it all being fine, try to keep that in mind and I hope you get more definite answers soon.

chopsface · 04/06/2015 12:27

Feeling REALLY tired today :-(

Cariad2014 · 04/06/2015 13:23

Had my 12w scan today, and my EDD has been adjusted to 15 December.

Although the nuchal measurements were normal, the blood results for Down's Syndrome were higher than I'd have liked (1:1,163) so I'm booked in for a (private) Harmony Test tomorrow. (My hcg levels were almost double my PAPP-A). The results won't of necessity change our decision, but I'm keen to know and be prepared in advance.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 04/06/2015 14:14

Had scan today went well. I think the sonographer was getting a little flustered trying to get the NT measurement as the little rascall wouldn't keep still for a second! Still waiting for results for downs risk only had tests done yest.
Have told everyone now! It's real!!

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 04/06/2015 14:14

Oh they now have my EDD at 12th dec

ThreeBeanRap · 04/06/2015 14:30

Congrats sharon! So exciting isn't it Grin
