Felt we might need a new thread to get through the night feeds and labours!

Nice to hear of good nights sleeps! Not quite there yet, although he's given me an hour/hour and a half inbetween whereas before he was just restless all night. Still a bit restless when I put him back in his Moses basket though.
Must invest in a sleeping bag this weekend! Although all the ones I've seen start from 8oz 8lbs and he was 7.7 born. Hopefully he'll be ready for one soon though with all of this feeding he's doing!

PenguinPoser · 01/05/2015 05:04

Thinking of you brummagem how disappointing that they couldn't do your sweep. And kismac would be Sod's law if you're in labour now - good of course but typical as you've made plans!

Good news on sleep Lauren, cinnamon and RL. Cinnamon your ds3 has clearly read the textbook on sleeping! DD slept amazingly from 5.30pm yesterday (clearly I should have gone to bed then too Hmm ) until 11.15pm... Then was wide awake. Settled her and brought her upstairs after 1.30 and she's up feeding now from about 30 min ago. Fingers crossed for another couple of hours.

Health visitor coming for her 6 week visit in the morning. Hope she's ok with dd's weight gain. GP was threatening referral to paediatrician Confused but agreed for health visitor to monitor. I'm just worried compared to how much weight some of your babies are gaining that mines hardly anything. I couldn't feed her any more she gets all she wants. Hope there's nothing wrong with my milk Sad her nappies etc are perfect and she's content otherwise so I don't know. Suppose someone has to be small! I love her so much and scared I'm not doing enough for her somehow. Middle of the night hormones!!!

FiRaffe · 01/05/2015 05:20

Oh Penguin. You're doing a great job and as long as she is actually feeding properly all the time (not just suckling the nipple), then she is just destined to be small and nothing wrong with that.

Glad some of you have had a successful night. I'm currently in about an hours broken sleep and absolutely dead on my feet whilst DS is feeding....again. It's a vicious cycle though because he is in pain with colic in his tummy but then once he seems to have cleared some of that gas he wants to eat again, restarting the problem.

At least my mum can look after him for a bit in the morning so I can sleep, but I don't know what i'll do once they go home next week. Today is going to be a teary day!

cinnamongreyhound · 01/05/2015 07:04

Oh no, sorry you're both feeling emotional PenguinPoser and FiRaffe, my post from last night wasn't as cheery! Your doing great with milk PenguinPoser, 6oz in a week is fab. Don't forget babies grow at different rates. I seem to make big chunky boys! Your dd will regulate your milk and get what she needs, she will also settle on a centile and that will give you an idea of what size she'll be.

cowbiscuits · 01/05/2015 07:47

Hi penguin, hope you're not worrying too much about your daughters weight, she sounds healthy. Sometimes weighing them too often is counterproductive because they will have plateaus and growth spurts. I found this with my DS1 who was little to start with but drifted down the centiles a bit. He's still very little at 2.7, he's short, but he's very healthy and happy. And crazy.

This baby started off more than a pound heavier, so I wouldn't he surprised if he grows up to be bigger than his big brother.

My tiny 2nd centile toddler seems like a giant now after cuddling a newborn most of the time. I so couldn't believe it when he visited in hospital, he's enormous and weighs a ton, but I was picking him up while 40wks pregnant!

Little ones nappy has leaked again, hes wet through. Forgot how many clothes changes there are with newborns, and how much they hate being undressed. Just got my milk yesterday, so he has been eating lots.

Our bin is filling with nappies fast! Two nappy wearers plus big maternity pads. When things settle down we'll try to get the big lad using the potty, he does it at nursery.

cinnamongreyhound · 01/05/2015 08:00

I always think that cowbiscuits doesn't matter how big your eldest is they grow overnight when you have a baby!

PenguinPoser · 01/05/2015 10:02

Health visitor was lovely - not worried about weight gain at all. She's following her centile line even though she's small. Feel better now Smile

Cowbiscuits yes to the clothes changes!! New pink dungarees lasted 15 min this morning. I think I need to get her more clothes to make up for it Grin

RL20 · 01/05/2015 10:19

Glad health visitor isn't worried penguin.
Mine is coming on Tuesday, he's only been weighed once since birth and had put 2oz on so here's hoping he's had a growth spurt!

Cowbiscuits yes about the clothes changes, and because I'm FF he always manages to get milk all round his top even with a bib (getting through lots of them too!).

FiRaffe hope you're ok? I take it the infacol isn't working for you (I think it was you that said you're using it). Have you spoken to anyone about what else you can try?

OH has a funeral to go to today. Not meaning to sound selfish and awful at all but the wake involves going to a social club which obviously means drinking Hmm. Hope he doesn't think he's planning on staying out - he says not.

smogsville · 01/05/2015 10:48

Good news Penguin. DD was only a tiddler at first but is now very much on a par with her peers.

DS has his first ever big vom this morning. Obviously it was the one time I had ever put him down on our bed sans muslin. Mattress protector now in washing machine and mattress sponged! Angry

FizzyBubbly · 01/05/2015 12:32

Haven't had my morning catch up on here yet as been a bit busy - dropped DD and her overnight stuff off at my MILs as I think this is it!! ShockGrin

Woke this morning with lower back pain which has progressed into definite contractions. Haven't started timing yet, reckon they must be every 3-4mins or so lasting about 45secs.

Hope I'm in for an easier time than last time!

Oh and how about this for coincidence, I went into labour on the exact same day with DD 2 years ago (Fri before the May bank hol, she was born on the Sat)

roastpots · 01/05/2015 12:47

Good luck firaffe. I was in labour that bank holiday weekend two years ago as well! DD1 born on the tuesday....

Wineandchoccy · 01/05/2015 12:56

Good luck Fizzy

I'm glad health visitor was nice penguin I have to take Eleanor to the clinic this afternoon to be weighed because on Tuesday when she was weighed she still hadn't gone back to her birth weight.

I fed dd at 8.30 and thought I will have another hour in bed and next minute it was 12.00, I'm in a rush now to shower, change + dress Eleanor and get to the clinic for 2pm

PenguinPoser · 01/05/2015 13:20

Nice one for the extra sleep wine! Good luck for the weigh in too.

Good luck fizzy Grin

Hope you're ok today RL and hope your OH comes home to help you out after the funeral.

Oh dear smogs at least you had a mattress protector on! DH also decided this morning to dress dd on the sofa after I had fed her without a muslin under her head... Glad we didn't get a new sofa like we were planning before getting pregnant!

Lauren82000 · 01/05/2015 14:15

Good luck Fizzy.Smile

Was discharged from the mw today. DD has passed her birth weightGrin she is now 6lb 13oz put on 4oz since Sunday and she said her jaundice was clearing too.

Oh and she passed her hearing test as well. Very busy day today.

smogsville · 01/05/2015 15:31

Yes Penguin mattress 'protector' in name only! Although it mitigated any serious damage...

Good news Lauren. I have to see mw again next week for final discharge they won't do it until jaundice completely gone, rage AngryAngryAngry although actually I quite like having him looked at by the professionals so don't really mind.

Lauren82000 · 01/05/2015 15:36

How frustrating smog. We still think she's a bit yellow but the mw was quite happy it was almost gone. In fact the first thing she said was her colour was good. I guess just have to keep doing what were doing and it'll be gone completely soon enough.

I'm almost ready for a nap. But we have visitors arriving at some point so not going to happen for me. DH wants to take us for a walk down the prom for ice cream but it's too cloudy I think. I'd rather save it for a nice day.

smogsville · 01/05/2015 15:44

Ice cream though Lauren... I'd be tempted! It's a boring trip to waitrose for us Confused

smogsville · 01/05/2015 16:58

Has anyone had a day when baby has fed voraciously followed by quite a quiet feeding day? Normal?

RL20 · 01/05/2015 16:59

Better day today. DS let me have a bit more sleep throughout the night. Went to asda with my mum, but I went in my car with DS which was the first time in a car with him on my own! I also nipped into Boots with him on my own (doesn't sound like much but felt like a big step! Shock). I took him in in the car seat though as didn't have pushchair with me.
Put on a gradual tan moisturiser last night and managed to paint my nails today whilst mum held DS, so starting to feel a bit more normal now. Just want OH back from the funeral/wake now though Sad.

Smog at least they are keeping an eye on the jaundice, like you say. thumbs up .

Hope everyone is ok Brew

RL20 · 01/05/2015 17:01

Smog I had a quiet feeding day the other day, he just kept bringing it back up or just not sucking properly, but later in the evening I think it was ok

smogsville · 01/05/2015 17:25

Thanks RL and well done you on outings and getting back into the swing of your grooming regime! So hard with your first I remember going out seemed like a massive and insuperable hurdle at first.

DS feeding now. I have cheesecake in fridge so wouldn't mind if he decided on a boob marathon this evening esp as I've already had a large wodge of generously iced coffee and walnut cake at caff this arvo Blush

RL20 · 01/05/2015 17:35

Yes hurdle is the right word! Very nerve wracking. Glad to be home though as it's not the warmest outside. If it was I would probably attempt to take him out in the pram for the first time, too, but it's a bit cloudy for that.
I want to get up and put the heating on but DS has fallen asleep on me and I don't want to disturb him! Grin.

The iced coffee cake sounds lovely!

What are we all doing this bank holiday Monday?

IvegotaCaveTroll · 01/05/2015 18:01

Hope everyone's doing well and the final few labours are starting.

I'm hardly writing on here as I'm so knackered I can barely string a sentence together
RL well done for venturing out on ur own - iv not done that yet as my OH has 4 weeks off but I have to admit the thought of me in the car alone with baby is pretty daunting!!

cinnamongreyhound · 01/05/2015 18:20

Yay for your nice hv PenguinPoser! That and many other reasons is why dh insisted on us having leather sofas!

Good luck FizzyBubbly!!!!

Lovely lay in wineandchoccy, lucky you having and afternoon clinic ours is 9.30-12 with last weigh in at 11.50 which they have plastered on the walls!

Yay for weight gain Lauren82000, ice cream is ice cream! You can go on a sunny day too!!

Good news for getting out and painting your nails RL20, hope your dp does the right thing. Dh and I are marshalling at my clubs 10k race Monday. Ds1&2 are going to my mums and ds3 will be in the sling with me. Have to be there 9.30 and hopefully done by 2. Raises a lot of money for club so everyone is expected to pitch in and as I wasn't sure what I'd be up to I volunteered dh in my place, now they're getting us both!

We've had a quiet feeding day today smogville but we out from 8.15-4 in the sling or car so that's not surprising. I'm sure it's fine.

Pretty hectic day, took ds1 plus 5 mindees to school, dropped ds2 and dh off to the coach for ds2's trip. Governors meeting at school, collected 1 mindee and drove to trip. Spent the day with ds2's class at steam train museum, drove home via tesco for party bag items. Picked up ds1 and 3 mindees. Got them all snack then started on cakes for ds1's party tomorrow and made up party bags. Last mindee left 15 mins ago and now don't want to get up!

daholster · 01/05/2015 18:25

Well done RL that's a huge few steps you've taken today!

Hope labouring ladies are OK!

I am feeling very teary, PIL are here preparing garden for and installing a big sandpit for dd with dh as her birthday present in time for her party tomorrow.

And it hits you... Party tomorrow. Got the food and all bit our house is a pig sty. I am v shattered, coming down with a cold I think, ds still waking 4x a night and I'm up 30-45mins each time. Dh wakes too obviously but can at least snooze. I have dd and ds in here, trying to tidy and manage a dd who wants my attention and ds who needs multiple nappies and feeds. There is no way it will be nice in time for tomorrow. Or the conservatory cleared. And dh is suffering and feeling sorry for himself too needing paracetamol because he elected to go walking in Wales yesterday. I told him I didn't mind so long as he didn't ruin himself and become useless. 15 miles later he admits he's ruined but knows he isn't allowed to be and is carrying on. But I have no sympathy from him!

I could just cry but is beat make dinner instead now ds has fallen asleep again. Wish I could cancel the party!!! Dd would be so disappointed and BIL is already on his way from Liverpool. Sigh.
