Sorry all, I've been lurking rather than posting, but so glad to hear other people are always cold too! I used to be the type to wear a tshirt in the snow, but now apparently I am the type that needs thermal underwear under my skisuit to go out in the garden Hmm

Anyone else worrying about their scan?

Oh, and just to make you envious of me, my skin has cleared up massively (I have adult acne)...BUT I now have a dry scaly patch between my boobs. The joys of pregnancy.

Crumbelina · 20/04/2015 16:50

The joys of pregnancy indeed, Lemon. Someone posted on a pregnancy thread recently and said “Don’t worry about your nausea going. Your body will move on and find new ways of making you feel uncomfortable”. I’m bearing that in mind and waiting for the next complaint … Smile

TwoBeesInTheHive · 20/04/2015 17:02

my dh is adamant he wants to find out, I wanted a suprise this time seeing as we have one of each. but dh says it's his way of connecting with the baby, so I have to respect that. and now I know we will find out I'm really excited to know! you find out one way or another anyway in the end Smile

stace1986 · 20/04/2015 17:16

I shall apologise in advance for the TMI post!

Is anyone suffering with constipation? I am really struggling to go and it is really painful when I do finally manage to go. I am taking pregnacare and I am wondering if its that.

Anyone got any tips on how to ease it? Increasing fiber has done sod all!

Also the pregnacare makes my nausea so much worse I am thinking of stopping it at 12 weeks... has anyone else only taken a multivit up till 12 weeks and then stopped? Hoping I can start to get more nutrients from food when my MS/nausea gets better (optimistic thinking!)

Lauramum23 · 20/04/2015 17:26

I have never taken a multi vitamin I just take folic acid and I haven't taken the vitamin d yet much either as I have never taken it with my other 3. The recommened thing is folic acid and vit d so scrap the others and see if the regular stuff makes u feel better? I've been soaking the rays today for my vitamin d intake! Think my face has caught itSmile

Lauramum23 · 20/04/2015 17:29

Oh and constipation I'm the opposite more often than not!!
My son had lactulose for constipation last year I would ask your midwife if you can have it?
Also someone once told me that a cup of tea works hot of course!?
Plenty of shreddies and brown bread and loads of water!?
Good luck it's horrid xx

bugoven · 20/04/2015 17:34

stace I think it's just yhr folic acid that is essential and I've never struggled taking that but the pregnacare may be what's made me feel awful after a few virtually nausea free days.

guybush that sounds so much better and safer than I imagined with the harnesses and roll cage. Think I'll give it a go next year.

I had a few spots in the very early days but more noticeable is this pigmentation thing called chloasma. It's like brown patchy birth marks all over my neck, shoulders, cleavage, stomach and this time forehead! I've had it in all 3 pregnancies it just gets more widespread each time. I don't kind it really, it's a nice reminder that baby is taking over in a big way!

bugoven · 20/04/2015 17:35

Sorry guybrush not bush!

Also congratulations on your healthy scan =)

bugoven · 20/04/2015 17:35

annbag that is. I am seriously dopey this evening. Sorry.

BowiesJumper · 20/04/2015 17:38

stace, I take boots multi vits (pregnancy) but I take them at night, before bed, so haven't felt any ill effects from them. Maybe try that? For the constipation, get some prune juice! If you don't like it, mix it with orange juice and chug that down. It should help. And drink lots of water throughout the day.

cryingbabymess · 20/04/2015 17:38

Stace I can't go either. I stopped taking pregnacare a few weeks ago and it's not made a difference. I'm just taking folic acid now!

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 20/04/2015 17:40

stace, this is a slightly embarrassing post but the best thing I find for constipation is finding the optimum pooing position. Have a look on Amazon for 'squatty potty'. It basically gets your knees up into a proper squat which is a much healthier way to go. I find if I use that and just try and relax, it happens.

On the other hand, it is good practice because giving birth is like pooing a watermelon.

bugoven my trailer is the Zigo Mango. A bit difficult to source in the UK but it's been great. We wanted a hand brake too because we do inline skating. Croozers are really good, Chariots are the best on the market but super expensive.

Lactulose is definitely safe for pregnant women and it works very, very well. Blush Fybogel is also safe. Senokot is a no-no. Also second the prune juice but go easy!

NewMrsX · 20/04/2015 17:51

I had constipation for a few weeks then since Friday awful diarrhoea. I'm barely making it to the toilet sometimes and it's very embarrassing in work. Seems to have calmed down a bit today though so fingers crossed it's nearly over.

I had my maternity exemption certificate through today, I didn't realise it would be valid for a year after the birth so that's handy

Unthoughtknown · 20/04/2015 18:19

YY to the constipation along with horrendous painful bloating and stomach cramps. If I wasnt pregnant I'd be seriously worried about my digestive system.

Unthoughtknown · 20/04/2015 18:20

Does prune juice taste bad? I might give it a go...

stace1986 · 20/04/2015 18:31

Thank you all ladies. I started with the pregnacare as I wasn't eating due to MS/nausea and was worried about not getting enough nutrients. Got some fybogel so I will give that a go!

Guybrush pooing a watermelon had be laughing out loud! :)

TakesTwoToTango · 20/04/2015 18:35

Ha ha! I can't help but chuckle at the posts on here today. I bought prune juice only yesterday and consumed two glasses before bed last night. About to have another now. It doesn't taste too bad (but so far hasn't exactly worked the magic I was hoping for either). I'm also taking pregnacare and have to admit I'm considering stopping, but as I'm overseas and the supplements over here are very unregulated I'm a bit loathe to give up on my UK-purchased stash and switch to locally-purchased folic acid and vit D. I might wait until tri 2 at least and then see how I'm getting on. I seem to remember from previous pgs it improves in the second tri anyway.

CoffeeTwo · 20/04/2015 18:54

Evening ladies. I've missed a few pages so need to go catch up. I had my booking appointment today which went well and got my 12 week scan booked for 13th May :) excited and nervous.

HeirToTheIronThrone · 20/04/2015 19:23

Annbag we're in exactly the same situation, I didn't want to know and DH said he'd just get them to tell him on the side. I mentioned this to the midwife at my booking in and she said they would refuse to do that - you both have to agree to find out! So really it's my decision. I think now we probably will, it means so much to DH and I think will help him bond a bit. I have said though that if we do find out I don't want to tell everyone else still until s/he is born.

Another one who's cold all this time here!

Haha know how you feel girls but I don't think I can stomach prune juice!!!

mrswishywashy · 20/04/2015 19:45

Those of you with constipation are you drinking plenty of water? That should help, making with lactulose. I'm still taking progesterone from fertility treatment which keeps things moving for me, but only five days left. Twelve weeks on Saturday and have the twelve week scan the day after the first may bank holiday. I'm hoping more than anything to see a healthy baby who is moving and has grown just the right amount since my scan at seven weeks, it feels like a lifetime ago. Super tired today as my six week old charge was awake from 1-4am and then up at 5am, he then hasn't napped today so the nausea has returned and I hope he does better tonight. I'm so looking forward to my own baby and doing my own thing, well along with my partner. Will be so different even though I've looked after over 100 newborns.
