daisypops - i didn't get the meditterean (sp?) stuff cause i was determined not to buy anything i wouldn't normally buy anyway. having said that, i wasn't going to buy huggies, what with my hippyish dryad ways and all, but funk it. got a free changing bag and all the goodies in it, so i'm not too fussed about a teeny bit of landfill!

Tillypup · 23/11/2006 21:54

"oh my god if I have counted correctly thats 59 of us! There must have been a very big power cut around May time or something strange happened!!"

For me it was getting very drunk on Easter Sunday that did it!

RGee · 23/11/2006 22:20

Hi all. I'm new here.... in fact new to everything. First born is due on 5 January. What have we let ourselves in for??

Nemoinapeartree · 23/11/2006 23:27

pmsl..I got pg must have been celebrating DD coming out of hospital the first time...never expected to be having another a year later..lol Am also due the 14th but am down as the 15th..although may be getting induced before that anyway..have to see whats happening on the 2nd jan..

magnolia seems so odd that you will be having your baby next week....

elliepmummy · 24/11/2006 07:13

Actually thinking back I fell pregnant in april found out was expecting in may. The only reason I remember is that it was on my birthday weekend and we didnt have DD for a couple of nights and had a very good night out with friends, she is also expecting so must have been a good month all round!!!!! diary note to self avoid all celebrations/birthdays in years to come as baby conceived when I had m/c was around DH birthday and DD was conceived at xmas!

Galmum · 24/11/2006 08:42

Thanks for updating the list Elliepmummy.

There are a LOT of ladies due in Jan - is it normally a busy time of year for babies?? For those of us going to Birth Centres/Hospital - let's just hope not too many of us go into labour around the full moon! I have visions of the January sales in my head!

2Happy · 24/11/2006 08:46

Good tip of the day, LTH
And while I was looking at it I also glanced at the threads of the day including the one about tearing. Perhaps a mistake.... however! I had epis and still got a 2nd degree tear. I hadn't heard of perineal massage etc at the time. So, has anyone on here done it/got any opinions or hints on it? And when should it be started? TIA!
Magnolia - a baby in less than a week! I hope the next 6 days go serenely, looking forward to the birth announcement!

poppynic · 24/11/2006 11:02

LittleMonkeysMum - what's your friend's first name - just in case we share a ward?

Re perineal massage - at our previous antenatal classes all the blokes were given the task of researching an aspect of birth and presenting it to the class (very funny). One of them covered perineal massage and his verdict was, while he couldn't find where it was actually proven to help it may do, and we should get on with it(surprise, surprise). My dp helped me out - he was like a pig in muck and I'm far too prudish - and managed to pop out a 9'7'' shoulder dystocia with a small tear and two stitches - so maybe it helped? I have to say everything's too sore down there this time to let anyone or anything near so will have a good comparison!

theUrbanDryad · 24/11/2006 12:05

OMG i haven't even thought of perineal massage yet. suppose i could get DH to give me a hand (so to speak!) but i'm hoping i'll be calm and relaxed and won't need a stitch!

quick query for LTH (the homebirth queen) - do you still get a Bounty pack if you give birth at home? i've been in the labour rooms at the hospital and seen them there, so would the MW bring one or what? and if you DO tear, can they stitch you at home, or do you have to go into hospital for it? sorry, that's two questions isn't it? i can't help it - you're my birth guru!!

Dragonhart · 24/11/2006 12:31

Welcome to all the newbies. x

ELM and magnolia, cant beleive that you will have your babies so soon. Hope that all four of you are ok.

Well, there has been a tummy bug in the dragon household for the last few days so feel like i have spent the last few days either kneeling or sitting on the toilet or cleaning up sick from DS (sorry if TMI!).

Had really bad stomach cramps on tuesday and got really paranoid that I was having contractions. All was fine and doc was very nice when he was telling me I was being silly! Feel like i havnt slept for the last few nights thoughas the baby seems to have chosen this time to get REALLY active and grow loads just when my stomach is aching.

So between the baby, my tummy, DH with his cough and DS with his cough, being sick and grumpy and still teething (he seems to have got everything at once!), I am pretty fed up with being 33 weeks preg and getting no sleep! Moan over!

ELM · 24/11/2006 12:39

Hi Everyone... yesterday was my first day as 'a lady of leisure' after being signed off sick now til the birth.
Had a lovely morning, long lie in, then got up to get my hair done and ladygarden waxed... LTH: have had 3 internal examinations now (what do they call them?) all done by the same young Dr with a student watching....felt like I should offer him a strimmer so feel better now!
Then had to spend 5 HOURS at the hosp. My resting pulse was up to 142 bpm, so they did an ECG and blood tests and made me sit in the waiting room for the results...I was there til 8pm! They finally let me escape, but I have to go back tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday for more tests
So feel justified in putting my feet up and trawling mumsnet today instead of doing much needed housework!

Apparently Easter weekend accounts for so many January babies... I wish I could say it was that memorable that it stood out in my mind!

ELM · 24/11/2006 12:41

Oh poor you DH and family. ((Hugs)) are you able to keep anything down?

LadyTophamHatt · 24/11/2006 12:52

UD, they should bring the bounty pack to you but with Ds2 I went and collected mine from the hospital instaed.
They are menat to bring it though.

Stitching can be done at home or in hospital. I needed stitches with ds2 and the MW asked me( he was delivered by paramedics so she was only there to check him over and stitch me up) if I wanted to go to hosp for the stitches. I said I didn't want to have it done there on my bedroom floor without any anestheic(sp??) but they have it with them. So she did here embroidary right there.

The amusing thing was, for some reason I thought the injection would be in my thigh, I remeber thinking "F*cking hell...where in gods name is she going with that needle???"
The needle was heading straight for my fanjo! that still makes me cross my legs even thinking about it now!!

LadyTophamHatt · 24/11/2006 12:57

Hey, UD...I've just noticed we're due on the same day!!

We'll have to meet up when you're down this way visiting the ILs again.
Just as long as it's not on the Long man of wilmingtons head that you suggest
You could stand atthe top and I'll stand at the bottom and we'll just shout to each other if you do

OonaghBhuna · 24/11/2006 13:14

Welcome to all the newbies. Well we were having a fab time in Australia when we conceived....! We stayed with friends in Melbourne and then we went to New South Wales and Queensland....DD loved it and when we returned to Melbourne we were pregnant!!!!!My friends realized that it must have happened in their house which caused alot of laughter and a little embarrassment!!!
However back to reality, was out with DD having morning coffee and scones, DD was a little unsettled but this women kept giving me filthy looks cause she was cryoing and making noise....Urgggggggghhhhhhggrrrrggggg!!!!!!!!!

laughalot · 24/11/2006 13:25

Lol lol lol im due same day as tillypup who has pointed out she conceived at easter my dh worked all easter ............... we must have fitted it in some how over the easter period unless I bumped into david beckham hmmm wishfull thinking. Laughalot is dreaming again, hope you are all ok mags a baby next week scary mary ill be eating birthday cake and you will be having a bubba hope all goes well for you and elm.

lulu25 · 24/11/2006 13:31

sorry if this is a silly question but what's a bounty pack??

LadyTophamHatt · 24/11/2006 13:51

It's a big bag full of free stuff Lulu.
(The child benefit form in also in there too)

2Happy · 24/11/2006 16:42

Well I've had my scan. On the good side, it's OA so at least it's pointing in roughly the right direction (it's ROA not LOA, but it's a start!). On the bad side, the body = 33 weeks, the head = 34.5 weeks. I'm only 31+5!!!! OMG I'm giving birth to a MONSTER!!! I must stop eating (and start searching MN for perineal massage threads... dh said he'd give me a back massage when he got home, I'll just keep saying lower, lower!! )

2Happy · 24/11/2006 16:48

One quick read later (if anyone's interested )... God I'm glad dh is a vet!!!!

poppynic · 24/11/2006 17:20

Great reference 2happy - last time we just fumbled our way around, maybe I will give it another go. Dp - who thoroughly enjoyed all the icky bits of the last birth - did comment how animal like it was.

LittleMonkeysMum · 24/11/2006 21:06

Poppynic, my friends name is Jess. How funny if you end up sharing a ward. x
