Hattie2 · 17/11/2006 09:43

Moan alert! If you don't want to read a moaning, whingeing post then please skip to the next one ..... I'm totally FED UP with being pregnant 7 weeks seems an absurdly long time to wait at the moment (and another 5 weeks at work still to go).

Had a dream about the birth last night and was so disappointed to wake up and find I was still pg instead.

Boobs have started leaking as well now, so have pantyliners at one end, breast pads at the other and a support belt in the middle - would be so nice just to be able to get dressed in the morning without all the 'extras'! And would be nice to be able to wear something different, I'm sooooo bored with all my maternity clothes.

Oh, and DH being a PITA at the moment. Apparently all I have to do is ask if I want him to do something for me (yeah, right) but just once it would be nice for him to offer. How many times do I have to say 'Please can you unload the dishwasher / empty the recycling / go and see what dd wants etc. I'm 33 weeks pg, exhausted and pissed off (if you hadn't noticed)'?.

Moan over - welcome to the newbies. Fingers crossed for you magnolia, hope you get through the next 3 weeks OK.

Love2dance · 17/11/2006 14:26

My sympathies to everyone with pregnancy pains and aches and all. Am so tired at the moment so sorry not to refer to all by name but it is a massive pick up just to read thu and see others are feeling like me. I endorse everything looshkin says about brace and positioning. The "Thermaline" v-shaped pillow with tiny beans in it is very good for sleeping with it between the knees.

Not getting much sleep as apart from pregnancy issues home is like a building site. Bedroom very damp (ceiling plaster drying) and dusty (old Artex being taken off and wall that fell down leaving us with just exposed brick) and whole place covered in thick layer of dust and painting an wallpaper stripping and re-wiring not done yet. Found myself crying into my breakfast this morning as it feels like it's going on for ever.

Snappy at dh as our decorator is an old friend of his and he feels like he has to go to the pub with him every night. I have to be away from home in Nottingham for work for next 2 weeks so would like a bit more time with him. At least the 2 pussy cats are company.

Moan over. Oh just one last go, as going away Sunday dh keeps asking me to pack my hospital bag just in case. Can't be arsed (and everything covered in plaster dust) but s'pose I'll have to.

Anyone found any nice weekend or suitable bags? I feel a spot of feeling sorry for self retail therapy coming on as am not a million miles from Oxford St at work.

Hang in there everyone we're on the home straight

2Happy · 17/11/2006 14:48

Oh well, I'll add my moans too . Finally have a week where I'm not sleeping as badly (still up several times a night, but at least I'm asleep inbetween) so what happens? ds decides to be up all night, and dh doesn't hear a thing!!! Otherwise things actually going ok here, I think it's the thought of stopping work in 3 weeks that's perking me up! Had a foul day on Wednesday, and I tell you, if I wasn't going on mat leave it'd make me want to get pg just so I could have some time off!
For pains, I've looked in my pg yoga book (I'm a sucker for gimmicky books, lol!) For SPD it suggests :

  1. sit tall on the floor with your legs extended. Bend your right knee and rest it on the floor or on a cushion for support. Place your right heel by your groin. Hold your left big toe with your left hand (use a belt if necssary). Breathe deeply for six breaths.
  2. keep hold of your left toe with your left hand and raise your right knee. Position your foot on the floor, as close to your body as you can, and hols your knee with your right hand. Breath deeply for 6 breaths. Repeat both stretches on the other side. And their bit for carpal tunnel's on the same page, so I'll copy that out too: Sit, or stand. Cross your wrists so that they touch and circle your hands forwards, then backwards, 6 times. Wiggle your fingers throughout. Breathe evenly. Then join your elbows, lower arms and the heels of your hands. Inhale and stretch your fingers as you open your hands. Exhale and close your hands. Repeat 3 times. Hope some of that helps

Anyone suffering form heartburn, read this in a mag:

"Cut down on acidic foods such as tea and coffee, vinegar, meat, tomatoes and ready meals (-er bit obvious there!!) ALkaline foods such as brown rice, fruit and leafy greens and root vegetables will help to cool the burning. Another tip is to avoid cold drinks as they keep the valve at the top of the stomach open, so food can come up again. The really bad news is that chocolate and mint have the same effect so sadly it is best to avoid them after a big meal"

Not sure if that helps anyone? I will def be ignoring the last bit about choc!!

ELM · 17/11/2006 19:32

Hi Ladies, back after another 7 day stint in hospital....had another 'gush' last Thursday evening (sorry if TMI!), so they kept me in for monitoring.
Haven't been able to catch up on all the posts since then.
Hattie2:I'm going through breastpads like mad too. PMSL when my other half said bashfully the other day "I guess you can't wash breastpads then....)Didn't find it half so funny when he started bringing me in clothes covered in fluff. For anyone who hasn't put a breastpad through the washing machine, your clothes come out looking like you've put an entire pack of tissues in the wash with them.
Also the joys of maternity pads...feels like I am wearing a nappy! Although sainsbury's brand are the best I have found.

Magnolia: Big Hugs. Know how hard the waiting is. How many weeks will you be when you have your C section?

Lizzz · 17/11/2006 20:05

Can I ask a TMI question re maternity pads?
Do they HAVE to be special maternity pads? Can Always Ultra super absorbant night time style surf board pads be used instead?
Am I being naive in beliving that the 'fallout' is just like a longer heavier period?

OonaghBhuna · 17/11/2006 20:14

I would definately stick with maternity pads for the first few days, with DD I used two at a time. I had an emergency c/s and apparently the loss is less with a c/s compared to a natural birth. I was reading on another thread and somebody recommended the Sainsburys maternity pads.

OonaghBhuna · 17/11/2006 20:16

Ahh it was Elm that recommended the sainsburys brand!!!! I really dont have a brain anymore!!!
Hope you are ok Elm.

laughalot · 17/11/2006 20:38

Hi everyone hope you are all ok im fine however I had a midwife appointment on thursday and she told me baby is 3/5 engaged {shock] I about dropped dead she said it is common in a first pregnancy but not so much in a second one so now im convinced she will be here early I just want to be with my dh and ds on xmas day so she can arrive anytime after that . Im not doing classes this time however the midwife did offer them to me, and I havent packed my bag either.

Ellie I had a graduating bob as well the other day and people keep telling me it looks nice apparently its common for mums to come in and have all there hair cropped ready for a new baby.

LadyTophamHatt · 18/11/2006 11:14

Lizzz, when I had ds3 I had 8 packs of maternity pads, so 80 pads in total and they were all going within about 4-5 days.

IMO you WILL need the real thing and not the normal pads.
I was still wearing normal pads 4-5 weeks after I had him!!!

coffeebeanz · 18/11/2006 12:39

Second that. In my naiive state of mind I thought a single pack of pads would do, but when you've just given birth and the MW is shoving two at a time into your pants they soon go.

DH soon got used to idea of buying them for me, and became a shopping staple in our house (like milk) for weeks and weeks afterwards. I bled for about 8 weeks with first (like a light period at end though). I have a fibroid which I just found out recently from current MW a few weeks ago was probably the cause of the extended bleed.

Magnolia, thinking of you .....

2Happy · 18/11/2006 17:15

Bloody hell! When ds was born he refused to sleep anywhere but on me. It took me 6 weeks to teach him to sleep in his cot, and from that time on he's refused to sleep anywhere else (and that includes other people's cots). So with the impending arrival of this baby, we've come to the conclusion we really need to teach him to sleep in other places, just so that gparents can take him while I'm in hospital and afterwards to give me a break occasionally. So, with no warning, dh announced today he's decided he's taking ds to his parents tonight so I can have a whole night off!!!!

It's only the second night I've had since he was born, and the last time it was for me to go on a course and I was up early anyway. This time, I have a whole evening, night and lie-in just to myself (well, so long as the ruddy cats don't bring too much wildlife in overnight, grr). What am I going to do with myself?? Strictly Come Dancing and ice-cream'll do for starters...

LadyTophamHatt · 18/11/2006 20:24

Are you bored yet 2happy???

I've been getting braxton hicks by the lorry load recently. Is everyone else getting loads now?

Oh...blimey...I nearly forgot....
I fell asleep on the sofa last night, probably at about 9-9:30pm, DH woke me up at 10 pm and I wentto bed, I was aslssp again by 10:15am.

Guess what...??

I DIDN'T WAKE UP UNTIL 6AM

OMG thats pretty much 8 hours sleep.... I felt human this morning.

Of course it obviously means that tonight I'll be awake 50 times for various thing but 8 hours 8 hours....woooohooooooo!!

2Happy · 18/11/2006 20:26

Yup!

LadyTophamHatt · 18/11/2006 20:27

LOL

2Happy · 18/11/2006 20:31

second night off in 17 months, and all I can do is eat ice cream, watch tv and mumsnet (much like any other night of the week...). And get bored. And miss dh/ds. Somebody slap me!

LadyTophamHatt · 18/11/2006 20:40

I've got my first day tomorrow with all 3 Ds's going out with someone else.
BIL and SIL are taking them all out, no-one has ever taken all 3 together (because I worry too much and won't let all 3 go!!)

Me and Dh are going out shopping for anew camera and then out for lunch...together....alone.....1st time ever
since Ds1 was born in 1999!!!

2Happy · 18/11/2006 20:44

Wow! 7 years is a long time! What'll you talk about (not the kids, lol!)?

MerlinsBeard · 18/11/2006 20:46

laughalot, ds engaged very early but was 4 days late. It made me waddle amd was particlularly painful if i had stood up for along time. are you about 31 weeks now?

poppynic · 18/11/2006 20:47

2happy - so happy for you - you don't need a slap - just more practice - ring up your dh/ds if you want to - do whatever you want to - just don't feel guilty... (Can't understand why Carole got such great marks and praise! but loved the waltz....)

LadyTophamHatt · 18/11/2006 20:56
