Nope, I haven't packed my back either. Bought 2 new nighties in Asda on Monday though. Packing my bag freaks me out a bit

JoJo30 · 15/11/2006 19:40

Blimey, when are we supposed to get the bag packed? I've put it on my calendar for 36 weeks, but still not really sure what I need. And do I need a big bag?! Knowing me I'll end up with a holdall and 3 random carrier bags full of rubbish.

My NCT classes start next week and feeling really nervous for some reason. Then I've got the Parentcraft class at the hospital in early December, so will be 36 weeks then. I'm 32 weeks today and starting to panic as it's all becoming more real.

LadyTophamHatt · 15/11/2006 19:41

Hospital bag??

hospital bag ????

at 30 weeks?

Trixy, In the nicest possible way, Your friend is a nutter!!

I was most pissed off when I packed my hospital bag for ds2. I'd remember how bloody awful I looked in photos that Dh took after ds1 was born so I bought myself so really nice PJs for after the birth. My bag was all set and ready to go with my lovely PJs ready for me to have my post birth photos taken and the little bugger decided he wanted to be born at home.
The PJ's didn't even make it out of the house let alone into any photos.

AND...to add insult to injury the only photos of me post birth with DS2 are absolutley awful. Honestly I look like shit.

I learnt my lesson with DS3.....his first photos were taken with me holding him at a few hours old, but you can only see my arms and hands.

I'm going to call in team of hairdressers and make up artists before any photos are taken this time

UCM · 15/11/2006 20:06

I remember the first time around having my hospital bag packed at about 26 weeks - awwwwww. I had EVERYTHING in it. This time I am taking my keys and mobile

Galmum · 15/11/2006 20:29

Hospital bag packed?? I think not!

It makes me feel better though, as I thought I was being v.anal for having started to sort through baby clothes/toys/pram etc. It's been a job finding half the stuff - I still have to clean most of it (joy!) and I'm sure loads is still missing!

Galmum · 15/11/2006 20:31

Forgot to say - LadyTophamHatt - baby No 4 - WHAT A WOMAN!

2Happy · 15/11/2006 20:36

I think I packed my bag at 36/37 weeks with ds, but since he didn't bother to drop in until 42 weeks there really wasn't much point, was there?! Not planning on packing until I start contracting this time, lol!
dh has just spoilt me with sticky toffee pudding, yum yum. And then I get annoyed when people tell me how huge I'm getting .
Welcome to everyone who's joined, trixy whereabouts in Scotland are you?

Daisypops · 15/11/2006 20:58

Ok girls, what else can I do for my back ache. I've had a bath and now I've got a water bottle on it but when I move my coccyx are soooo painful. I just sneezed and nearly cried and I can hardly walk. Don't like taking painkillers so thats not an option. Please help. x

pitstop · 15/11/2006 21:43

I can't help with backache advice I'm sorry, my pain seems to focus itself in my ribs and groin! sneezing and coughing are agony!

Going back to NCT subject, i've been going to classes for a couple of weeks and am quite enjoying them! I thought it might be all very hippy and anti drugs (in labour i mean!) its not! and most people are quite down to earth and generally normal!!! I felt I needed to go to some sort of class as I know nothing!!!

Tillypup · 15/11/2006 22:07

Daisy, sounds like a similarish pain I've been getting. A physio friend of mine advised tucking my bum under me when I walk and sucking in all my tummy muscles (what's left of them!)and that seems to be helping aas I get hardly any pain at all, though I can sometimes feel some of the bones grinding a bit, nice! Beforehand there were times when I was agony whilst I was walking around.

Like you I'm not mad keen on using painkillers either

Trinityrhino · 16/11/2006 08:14

apparently this hideous crippling pain I have had for a few weeks now is SPD. anyone else got any tips, I'm in agony, I'm nearly climbing the walls (or I would be if it didn't take half an hour to get off the sofa)

what has everyone else done to help it, or is it just something I have to deal with?
It's making me a crabby , grumpy mummy

posyparker · 16/11/2006 11:28

Annieapple, my baby is transverse (has been for about the last 6 weeks)and I can't tell, no matter how much I prod. I don' think my bump looks particularly wide either.

I am now 32+2 and have next a/n next Friday. If still transverse then I have got to go and see the consultant and have a scan to see if there is any reason why it is transverse - eg (I think) placental position - or if there are any other risks (eg cord lying below baby or around baby's neck - eek!). Apparently the risks are, if the cord is lying below a transverse baby, if your waters break early then you can get prolapse of the cord (leading to asphyxiation) as the baby's head will not be in the way to block the cord "coming out". And if the cord is around the baby's neck it can find it difficult to turn, and they should not risk turning it by a version for obvious reasons.

A bit alarming but I am glad they seem to be trying to head off any possible problems now rather than waiting until I need an emergency c-section (or worse).

Dragonhart · 16/11/2006 12:04

Everyone else seems to have been told that pos not a problem yet posy? All so confusing and everyone seems to say different things. Hope all goes ok next fri.

Gosh, its been busy! Welcome to all the newbies, hope everyones ok.

I packed my hospital bag at about 38 weeks and had everything in it including a little fan thing, sweets and crisps for DH (why I was thinking of him I dont know!) energy tablets and all sorts of other crap but as I had a very quick labour, didnt use any of it! DH ended up taking it home just a s I had packed it at 38weeks!

I had a massive lemon cream cake yesterday evening and ate half to myself (did give mum, brother and DH a small bit!) Then ate a massive bar of galaxy chocolate. Didnt even feel a bit sick. The baby obviously has a sweet tooth

elliepmummy · 16/11/2006 12:38

I have just cooked one of those goodfella solo pizza things for my lunch put it on coffee table with glass of OJ and phone went. Ended up being on phone 25 minutes sorting out deivery of the TV I won at work last week came back to eat it to find my DD aged 2 has scoffed the entire thing and drank my OJ (didnt even know she liked pizza and never given her OJ undiluted!) really want a pizza and that was the last one in the freezer so am very [env] of her and her full tummy at the moment!

Trinityrhino · 16/11/2006 14:34

coooeee help me, what can I do about my spd, have you lot got it, is there anything you can do

Daisypops · 16/11/2006 16:05

Trinity,

I've not got SPD but couldn't ignore you, try this, don't know if it will work. Can anyone tell me how I change the link below to just say 'read this' instead of all the http/// stuff.

www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/antenatalhealth/physicalhealth/pelvicpain/#12

Galmum · 16/11/2006 16:22

I had a bad patch with pelvic pain - yoga teacher advised me to rest as much as I could...keep knees together as much as possible (getting out of the car/bed) i.e. be a real lady! no wide open leg movements....walk with a shorter stride and no breaststoke. Although I still have groin pain and I'm not being very active, it's much better than it used to be and I luckily don't have proper SPD. Good luck x

elliepmummy · 16/11/2006 16:34

TR think a few people are suffering (LTH and I think Loubie (sorry if got thta wrong) but not sure what they are doing to try and help it. Please don't sob in the corner someone will come along who can help (((((hugs)))))

looshkin · 16/11/2006 19:04

Hello all, just a flying visit as last day at work tomorrow hooraahhhh but v busy etc, however could not ignore trinity's plea. I have seen a physio re my SPD was a little bit self diagnosed but confirmed got it right. I get alot of pain very low back area and pelvis but not too bad right in the centre of pubic bone unless trying to be too athletic. So advice - sleep in something slippery eg silk pjs or in my case old underslip so can turn over in bed more easily, keep legs together so get help with socks and pants etc (very glamorous) sit on a plastic bag in the car to help getting in and out, get a big long pillow for the bed to sleep in (put inbetween knees), I now have a fembrace (fitted by physio - would have to be a complete hunk fiddling around with the old nether regions!) this is basically a massive white belt but feels v comfy for about 4 hrs then starts to feel a little tight - you can buy support belts online - I tried one that I think was recommended from mumsnet but soon grew out of it and £17!!!!! Finally I take painkillers - cocodamol at the moment only at night (would fall asleep if took at work) they help to some extent but not with that sudden onset v sharp pain - don't take things like ibuprofen as not ideal at this stage, paracetamol definitley fine and codeine OK but have to reduce towards the end if possible.

Also try and rest I find the only comfy position is lying on my left hand side - I am lucky v nice dp and no dc yet only 2 cats who love to be cuddled so ideal all round.

I will post more at the weekend and catch up with the thread and all newbies - was there a power cut/general strike or a war in april/may as we all seem to have been at it!!!!!

Loosh

JoJo30 · 16/11/2006 19:05

Trinity, I've had pelvic pain since I was 22 wks - the pain is in my bum, hips and down my legs, so not actually proper SPD but very annoying. Got refered to physio, who gave me one of those support belts. It might be worth trying. They do hold you in and support the bump, but damn uncomfortable under my work trousers!

Other advice given was to increase pelvic floor exercises - this supports pelvis internally. Also watch your posture so that you're not sticking your bump out. I bought one of those long pillows from Blooming marvellous, and put it between my knees and ankles when sleeping, then another pillow under my hips. It does help the pain at night, but very little room for DH in bed!

Hope this helps.

looshkin · 16/11/2006 19:06

ooh forgot to mention get a birthing ball much more comforable than any chair and v good at building up core muscles in prep for birth and also hot wheat bag stuffed down back of pants.

elliepmummy · 16/11/2006 19:33

Right been looking through all my old practical parenting magazines as knew I had read an article about SPD. There is an organisation called The pelvic partnership and it is a website offering support for women experiencing SPD founded by woman who hav had SPD there web address is pelvicpartnership.org.uk. Havent had a look at the website but hope it may help x

Tillypup · 16/11/2006 20:40

Jojo, that is similar to the pain I was getting, and similar advice that I was given which seem to work. My physio and I think that possibly years and years of horse riding have already losened my pelvis slightly!

When I did some searching on the internet this type of pain came back as pelvic girdle pain, rather than SPD and is often misdiagnosed as sciatica

Lizzz · 17/11/2006 08:33

hi, can I just say that anyone who managed to get into NCT classes is lucky. Where I live they were booked up from May. (I only got pregnant in April!) We get 2 classes on the NHS (one 2 hour class on breastfeeding and one 2 hour class on labour) and that is it! I'm not particularly much of a control freak, but like to know what is going on, so I'm reading up on everything I can so I know what I am actually supposed to be doing and asking for when I do go into labour. Not that I'm worried about this in any way!

I started pregnancy yoga this week, though I only managed about half of it due to irritating heartburn attack half way through and karate kid champion baby inside me high kicking all the way through the meditation bit! I swear I am SOOOOOO looking forward to actually having this baby. I am over beng pregnant now!

Finally, I am sure everyones homes look like a mothercare bomb has exploded but can I just recommend mothercare world in Croydon to anyone who is thinking of going there. The staff were incredibly helpful and knowledgable, and I can't rate them high enough for putting my addled nappy brain at rest and placating my DP who was slightly overwhelmed by it all!

Have a good day!
ps - fructin natural heartburn relief doesnt work. I was fooling myself. I am currently experimenting by swapping all my meals around and having my weetabix at dinner time. It still doesnt work. I think I should just not eat after 5pm! Bring on this baby! x

Lizzz · 17/11/2006 08:39

Also, re. NCT classes. My sister was heavily into them last year, she has 16 month old twins. And she reckons you can join after the baby has arrived too. Lots of her mates from NCY came along afterwards to parenting classes and coffee mornings. So that is always an option.
