Congratulations on the scans ladies :) is anyone else paranoid about them being wrong!? My baby was in an awkward position at first and then sonographer finally said ah it looks like a little girl. We didn't react as we awaited confirmation and then when she said it again I asked her if she was sure and she said well we never say we're 100% sure and now I feel like it was unclear. I don't mind if it's a boy or a girl but I'm now worried I'll be expecting one and then get the other on the day. I suppose it doesn't matter that much but it sort of makes it pointless finding out! Does anyone else worry about this??

Treaclepie19 · 20/04/2015 11:58

Yes cornberry!
I was surprised to find out we were having a boy but I'm really excited, it'd be hard to suddenly go back to thinking it's a girl :p

Congrats to you too Corn! I asked my sonograhper to zoom in on the right bits and then let me guess. She zoomed into her legs and asked what I thought - I said 'girl' and she agreed that not only was there nothing dangling around (her words not mine) but she could also see little dots where the ovaries shod be!

A later view (baby wiggled ALOT during the scan) she confirmed she's still seen no evidence of a boy. She still said you can never tell for certain with girls though as they might just be shy boys... But she was pretty confident Grin

I agree, I didn't really mind either way, but knowing seems to make it all easier to picture and makes it seem more real somehow!

Snowflake15 · 20/04/2015 12:06

Cornberry we had a private gender scan at 16w and they said its definitely a boy, no doubt about it, showed us the outline and also showed us in 3d! But i think i would be more wary if a girl, as they do say it can be harder to tell! It sounds like she's pretty sure its a girl though, they tend not to say anything if they're not quite sure.

Worrywart I hope you're ok, if you're lurking say hi and let us know you're doing alright Smile

Choccyhobnob · 20/04/2015 12:10

I've been thinking about worrywart too. Hope she's ok x

Cornberry · 20/04/2015 17:20

That's interesting ditzzy. I asked if they could tell from the internal organs and she said no. She said I can't see a willy, and I even asked might it just be very very tiny and she said aw don't say that! Was considering having a private scan to confirm but I heard its best to avoid unnecessary scans... Will just not buy any baby dresses I advance just in case!

ditzzy · 20/04/2015 17:30

Maybe it was just luck and she caught mine at an unusually good angle? They just looked like little white dots to me so they can't be all that easy to find if you were actually looking for them!!

amusville · 20/04/2015 17:41

Lovely news everyone that's had their scans already. I can't wait to find out! Thank you do much to everyone gor their feedback, I am excited now.

whereswaldo · 21/04/2015 07:57

So nice hearing about all the scans- ours is on May 1st. We ve decided not to find out the gender but hearing all your stories has made me waver! Anyone else not finding out?

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 21/04/2015 08:03

Our scan is 1st may too waldo and we're not finding out. This is number 2 for us and we didn't find out with DS either. I think I'm worried I might be disappointed although I don't know what I'm hoping for - hormones!! When the baby is out I'll be delighted anyway so sticking with a surprise Smile

Lovelybitofsquirrel · 21/04/2015 08:45

It's our scan this afternoon Waldo and we're not finding out either. Fingers crossed everything is ok.

monkeymoonpig · 21/04/2015 08:48

Lovely colleague has just told me she is expecting too, 8wks behind me, im so pleased for her! She really is such a nice person & ive suspected she has been hoping for a while :-D
20wk scan on Friday, cant believe what a little mover this one is compared to DS, its tiring! Reassuring though :)

Good luck to everyone with scans x

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 21/04/2015 09:24

Our scan is 7th May and it feels like ages! Not finding out either so sure there's some sort of election related 'red/blue' pun!

monkey one of my really good friends at work is 8 weeks ahead of me! She had her 12 week scan the day after I found out I was pregnant and when she told me I couldn't keep it secret from her! So nice :)

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 21/04/2015 09:27

ALso, put this in the 'pushchair' topic but thought it worth asking here in case anyone has any good suggestions!

I'm 5' and DH is 5'11"...

Had the 'JL' session at the weekend and the Uppababy Vista came out on top but I am a little concerned about the handle height which is about level with the bottom of my ribcage in flats. DH literally doesn't see the problem but they had a Bugaboo buffalo in store too. We discounted it due to weight but the handle went down much lower than anything else - reading online it looks like it's 92 cm as opposed to the Vista's 103 which is quite a difference!

Any other recommendations on options for littlies? Ideally:

  • not overly heavy - easy lifting when folded is more important than exact weight.
  • Possibly flexible with regards to multiple children though ideally 3yr age gap.
  • Good on rough ground as we live rurally with limited pavements.
  • Not too fussy on size as we have an estate and would only be making the occasional bus journey.

It looks like the Mamas and Papas Sola may be an option but the nearest stockist is 30 miles away!

Thanks in advance

llama what a great website! I like that they actually tell you the handle height...and even feel compelled to comment that the Vista is high!

I was keen to look at the iCandy range but there was a massive family huddled round them so we gave it a miss. Plus DH was rapidly losing interest. I've convinced him we should go to the Oxford Pram Centre at the weekend so fingers x'd! Be interested to hear how you get on too

(We have a big boot and a dachshund who has an in car booster seat/bed so hopefully wont have too many issues!)

Hare5260 · 21/04/2015 16:30

Waldo we had our 20 week scan today and resisted the temptation to find out. DW videoed it and has been analysing it frame by frame but hasn't been able to work it out (good!)

londonliv · 21/04/2015 17:25

am wondering if I'm being a bit of a worrywart here. I'm 19+1 and have felt a couple of tiny movements in the last week or so but they mainly feel like twinges or indigestion (maybe it is just indigestion Confused) and it doesn't happen very regularly. Today I don't think I've felt anything. Is everyone feeling kicks now or do they come & go? I'm a pretty anxious person at the best of times so I'm not sure if I'm getting in a bit of a tizz over nothing....

Meinthecorner · 21/04/2015 17:37

londonliv I wouldn't worry too much especially if it's your first. It's hard to tell to start with and feels very different from the elbowing and backflips you will feel later. This website is quite good www.countthekicks.org.uk/mums/your-babys-movements/ Obviously if you are still concerned speak to your midwife.

banterbus · 21/04/2015 19:12

londonliv I feel exactly the same. I'm only 18 weeks but haven't felt any movements yet amd my bump is pretty much non-existent which is really worrying me. That link is really helpful though and sounds like we shouldn't worry as it's still early days. My scans not til 9th May which feels very far away at the moment!

shinjuku09 · 21/04/2015 19:16

Congratulations on all the scans :-)

I'm another probably not finding out gender though we previously thought we might. Didn't with DD and was the right decision for us then.

Bit behind again so hope everyone is doing well.

For anyone missing cocktails etc I've discovered Asda have just started a new range of canned sparkling drinks like non alcoholic cocktails and mixed fruit drinks but interesting ones. So far really impressed with them.

Meinthecorner · 21/04/2015 19:32

Thanks shin might look out for those. Tried alcohol free fruit cider and it tasted like squash!

thecrab · 21/04/2015 20:53

hey ladies, returned from a nice girly holiday yesterday in Scotland (forgot how amazingly beautiful it is up there!) Before I went however we had an early gender scan and found out we are having a little boy! So excited! XD

So glad everyone else is having nice scans too and well done those not finding out, you're stronger than me =P

Now I'm looking up spa breaks for August with my girls as I'm sure I'll be needing one the closer we get to September.

Anyone recommend a nice spa in UK?

Lovelybitofsquirrel · 21/04/2015 20:54

Londonliv and banterbus, I didn't really feel anything with ds until I was well past 20 weeks, more like 22 if memory serves me right. It started like a washing machine type swirly movement rather than kicky. If your placenta is at the front, as mine was and is again, it can hide the movement too.
We had our scan today, all went well thank goodness.

Jessica32 · 21/04/2015 21:49

Congratulations on everyone's scans must be lovely. Mine is on 6th may and I'm hoping to resist finding out as want a surprise Smile

I've felt some movements, definitely on a couple of occasions, less certain at others. Mine are also very sporadic though (18+1) but that's very normal at this stage as others have said.
