Blimey, 7 threads already.

I would love a home birth but I am consultant led. The midwife hinted that if I insisted I could have one and she'd not object - but we live a bit too far from the hospital for me to be comfortable with it.

I actually didn't mind giving birth in hospital last time.

THEworrywart · 23/03/2015 18:32

I don't watch OBEM because the thought of actually having this baby scares the life out of me both naturally and c section!
Water births sound good but I personally couldn't - a lot of people say it eases the pain.

Meinthecorner · 23/03/2015 18:37

I would have liked a water birth last time but ended up being induced and an emcs. Planning for vbac this time but probably will need to be on labour ward although the midwife-led unit is on the same corridor. All depends if I get the same condition back again or not.

Scan tomorrow morning!

Bippidee · 23/03/2015 18:54

I wanted to labour in water with DD. Midwives gave me heaps of flannel when I asked how long it would take to fill the pool. All they needed to say was that I was progressing too quickly to make it viable. Cows.

I'd love to try this time, but we shall see. My last labour was pretty fast comparatively, so expecting this one to be swifter. Shock

sauvblanc21 · 23/03/2015 19:03

Ooo even more inclined to pursue water birth now, thanks for your thoughts :) I know I need to be prepared for it to not happen in the end too! X

sauvblanc21 · 23/03/2015 19:05

Gooo I would choose birth unit attached to hosp for the same reason you said - I wanna be very close to all medical facilities to cover all eventualities! Home too far away! X

thecrab · 23/03/2015 19:06

I've no idea what I want to do now! Since I had a shit time at my ideal place of birth just going for the 12 week scan I'm now completely put off it and the only other option (besides home birth) is a hospital that I'm really not keen on. =( I know the months are just going to fly by and I'm not prepared.

But besides that I'd like to go as natural as possible and stay off the bed.

sauvblanc21 · 23/03/2015 19:14

What happened at 12 week scan crab?? Sorry if I missed it in previous thread x

LittleSesameSeed · 23/03/2015 19:24

I would love a water birth and would have with my dd but i was induced and hooked up to machines throughout whilst having to be flat on my back! Let's hope things progress differently this time! Don't think ill set my heart on anything in particular as things can change so quickly during labour! In other news I seem to have gone from looking completely 'unpregnant' to having a 6 month bump in a matter of days! Think the parents at school may start to suspect something very soon!

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 23/03/2015 19:27

I'd quite like to labour in water but not for the birth itself.

thecrab · 23/03/2015 19:29

nothing terribly bad sauv but I just felt like they couldn't be bothered with me as I was in and out in 10 minutes. I didn't get a nice smiley service or any "and this is babies arms and this is babies legs" like I kind of expected; the woman spoke to me like an idiot and talked me out of having the downs screening by saying there was no point. Just felt like they were judging me from the get go because of how I dress, I still look like a teen despite being in my mid 20's and I haven't bothered to change my name on my medical stuff so I'm still 'unmarried' and my husband is long haired and baggy trousers (and that's how I like him =P yummy!).

I don't know.

Treaclepie19 · 23/03/2015 19:37

We sound similar crab :p
My husband is long haired and baggy trousered too.

haha awesome treacle I LOVE seeing longed haired daddys and little rocker families it's so cute!

sauvblanc21 · 23/03/2015 19:48

Sorry to hear that crab, that's snot fair at all. Grrr horrible staff. Could it just be that one awful woman? Or did the whole place feel unwelcoming? Are you gonna tour the other hosp anyway? Xx

thecrab · 23/03/2015 19:58

I only dealt with her and the receptionist who was equally terrible. I'll give it another go once the wounds have healed I'm sure but it wasn't great first impressions =P my MW would prefer me going to the hospital so I'm going to book a tour soon.

So many things to organise for such a little person I can't believe it!

Snowflake15 · 23/03/2015 20:47

crab my Sonographer was a complete cow! Very short with me and not nice at all, huge contrast with my private scan at 8wks, and actually convinced me to have another private scan in a few weeks so I can really enjoy seeing my baby rather than holding my breath and being scared to ask anything! However, my midwife at booking in was lovely so I'm trying not to judge based on sonographer - she won't be there at the birth!Grin

Choccyhobnob · 23/03/2015 21:01

Worry - I'm a redhead too! That'll explain it!

Sundaysmumisfullofwine · 23/03/2015 21:05

Worry, I'm requesting a c-section. Last birth was crash section under GA and I'd like to be awake for this one. Fortunately midwife is in agreement knows not to argue with me so I'll be referred to the consultant at my 16 week appointment.

THEworrywart · 23/03/2015 21:10

I'm consultant led so hopefully she will go with her wishes and mine, my mums offered to pay for me to go private though if they're funny as apparently this one can be at times she's been lovely so far though. Will just have to see what happens on Monday (fingers crossed)

Jessica32 · 23/03/2015 21:20

Sauv I'm aiming for a water birth. Like the idea anyway but have some issues with my hips. Nothing very serious but mw suggested a water birth would help (I was going to suggest anyway). I can get in better positions without putting pressure on them. I also can't have opioids so my pain killer options are also limited.
I am being very open minded though as have never given birth before and I know even if I had, every labour can be different. I think one born is good for that; understanding anything can happen and there a lot of versions of 'normal'.

DoNotDenyMe · 23/03/2015 21:29

Hi all, sorry I don't seem to comment much... but I am reading these threads morning and evening Wink
I'm as of yet not sure about how I'll be having baby yet. With my first, I ended up with a 3rd degree tear (along with the episiotomy). I had a hosp appt 6 wks afterwards where they examined me and said it might be that I'm advised to have cs next time around. As it is, I have an appt at the beginning of next month with gynaecology (I'm guessing to assess damage 3yrs on) and I'll see what they advise.

mrsatkinson · 23/03/2015 21:33

I'm hoping for an elective c section. It will put my mind at ease that the twins will be safer. my first and quite nervy about it but don't want them to be at risk, nor do I want to be exhausted.
I'm consultant led due to multiple'- I hope I get a say in that choice Grin

Jessica32 · 23/03/2015 21:49

Mrs I'm sure you will get a say. From what I've heard they often do a cs anyway with twins as quite often one is lying awkwardly etc.

monkeymoonpig · 23/03/2015 22:03

My local MLU have a new water birth room so that would be nice.... with DS i couldn't stay still long enough for them to keep track of his heartbeat (pain all in my back) so had to lie on my back in the end, not perfect. They were fab midwives tho, really cant complain.
At my mw appt last week she advised keeping an eye on BP and if it goes up at 37/38/39wks then just go to Telford for consultand led as its better that than having to go 'blues & twos' later on anyway Confused she is, of course, absolutely right but hoping to stay at local MLU - Telford is a good 45min drive away for a start, whereas local unit is literally 3min drive..... so fingers crossed. My BP didn't go up in last pregnancy until 41wks so hopefully all will be ok if this babba is on time!

Treaclepie19 · 23/03/2015 22:16

Interesting reading all your birth plans.
I have absolutely no clue what I want to do.
I'm a worrier so think I'd like to be at hospital with all the drugs in case but also thinking how lovely it'd be to do hypnobirthing and have a water birth...
hmm.
