Now let's think about something more cheerful! Ummmm.....

Treaclepie19 · 09/04/2015 08:04

At my 16 week appointment I was told I would get it at the 20 week scan. Hope that's right as my work are already asking for it. My scan is next Friday so I'll let you know.

On a lighter note... The nappy talk on here prompted me to do some investigation. Surprisingly none of my friends have gone down the reusable nappy route so I hadn't a clue where to start. However, I went on the go real website and followed a link to Devon council (there are a few different councils on there) and have signed up to a trial. Basically they lend you 20 different nappies and all the bits that go with them for a month for a returnable £25 deposit and they will also help you out and offer advice. They suggested starting at around four weeks once things have settled down a bit. Am really excited because I thought through lack of not knowing what on earth I was doing I would end up using disposables. Might be worth people checking if there are any schemes local to them?

Also, have ordered a Doppler off eBay, not for reassurance, just to ease my dhs disappointment at being told by the midwife that there was no way he'd be able to hear anything with a normal stehoscope. He'd been optimistically trying to listen! I can already feel movement (18weeks) but it was really cool listening to her moving about and it might reassure me that it is movement I can feel, not just wind!

Hope everyone had a nice Easter holiday!

thecrab · 09/04/2015 09:11

I'll be getting mine at the 20 week appointment. Which I still need to book... procrastinating!

Lovelybitofsquirrel · 09/04/2015 11:24

Don't worry too much about the MAT B1, even if work are asking for it. You are obliged to notify them of your pregnancy and estimated date of confinement by 25 weeks but there is no requirement to include the MAT B1 at that time. Last time I wrote to my employer at 25 weeks to notify them and stated I would forward the certificate when I received it; there was no problem with this. They're just trying to make their own jobs easier!

Whatabout · 09/04/2015 12:14

What squirrel said about matb1, don't panic they don't need it just a letter from you and then the form when you have it.

Think I have managed to book my 16 week appointment for Monday. I'll be 18+2 so only a bit late!

Husband flies off to America for two weeks tomorrow. Not sure what I am going to do with the toddler for two and a half weekends on my own! I work full time so just have to cope with the morning and evening tantrums. I have one hairy day where I have to get back to pick him up and im already stressing about it! Hoping I feel better by tomorrow evening, cold, uti and ear infection have floored me!

Cornberry · 09/04/2015 12:47

Oh god whatabout what a nightmare. Hope you feel better soon. I'm prone to UTIs and ear infections so I feel your pain :(

monkeymoonpig · 09/04/2015 13:07

Mw this morning for BP check, had a different mw to usual who obvs doesnt know/care about the 20wk rule for listening to heartbeat so managed to have a listen whoop! Baby was kicking hell out of microphone thingy, very amusing Grin

thecrab · 09/04/2015 16:33

It feels like no one is at work today, been calling up the hospital and other clinics to make appointments but no one wants to answer the phone =(

Choccyhobnob · 09/04/2015 16:59

Why does my back hurt so much?! Only 17+2 so not like I have a huge heavy bump to lug around. I have a back support on my work chair but it's aching like mad yesterday and today!

Cornberry · 09/04/2015 18:14

choccy I'm 20 weeks and can no longer walk for more than a few minutes before I have to sit down from the back pain. Petrified about how much worse it's going to get :(

ovumahead · 09/04/2015 19:26

Argh I'm feeling ill and stomach crampy and a bit queasy... So hard not to worry when there's pain in my belly. What's the deal with tummy bugs and pregnancy?? Supposed to do anything differently?

misssmilla1 · 09/04/2015 19:39

been feeling crappy all week; tired, nauseous, crampy and what looked like occasional spotting. Went for my 16 week scan today; all good, picked up the heartbeat straight away and he was pumping around in there. Really amazing to see all the ligaments formed, actual fingers etc, makes it more real!

ovumahead · 09/04/2015 20:26

miss thats lovely! I find it so hard to believe all is well in there when I feel so ill - I know that's a bit bonkers, but pregnancy seems to do that to me! Only 2 and a bit weeks to go until my 20 week scan.... Can't wait.

TheMidnightHour · 09/04/2015 20:31

elio thanks for the tip - I've found a couple of places near us that might do a nappy trial.

I've started shopping already :) Anything we spend comes out of our parental leave budget (both self employed) so trying to be frugal. Have found some good bits at a jumble sale and a nearby NCT sale. A friend has just offered us their (lightly used, definitely not damaged) 0+ car seat, so that's a major win! Going to splash a bit on a co-sleeper style cot from Germany and watching a buggy on eBay...

Have to admit I'm enjoying collecting these things. Might have started a bit early, only 19w, so that's about 20 shopping weeks to go. Could spend a lot in that time, even if it's only at £2 or £5 a go.

Actually, that reminds me. If you already have a child, what kind of buggy was most useful for you in the first year? Did it change after 6 months or maybe 12? TIA.

DeladionInch · 09/04/2015 20:44

Midnight the IKEA £15 cot is stable without one side, just cable tie it to your bed (you might need to drill new holes so the base is level with your bed) and pad the furthest side with foam/a pool noodle/a rolled up towel

ovumahead · 09/04/2015 20:56

dela thats a great idea for the cot / Co sleeper. We had a bugaboo cameleon and I absolutely LOVED it. Used it from birth right up to age 4. So easy to use, can push with one hand, loads of space for shopping and other crap, perfect. Never understand why anyone would get anything else! Blooming expensive but worth every penny imo. If you're in eBay you may find a good deal...

This one. £35, sorry! I've never side carred mine but ds is still in it happily at 2.5!

monkeymoonpig · 09/04/2015 22:01

Any one know what they're gonna have baby sleeping in for first few months? We had crib for DS but was a waste of money really....can't decide what to do this time round - like the idea of hiring a Bednest (reduced to £80 at the moment) tho wondering whether should just go for moses basket then into the cot. Only thing worrying me a little is DS looked so teeny tiny when he went into cot and this baby would go in earlier!

Whatabout · 09/04/2015 22:34

Moses basket and then cot. No way we will manage the recommended six months in, DS kept me awake all night as he was so noisy and I'm such a light sleeper. He went in the nursery at 8 weeks and slept through at 9 weeks. I know we won't be do lucky with such good sleeping but I suspect we will move early again for my health and sanity.

DefinitelyNotElsa · 09/04/2015 22:51

We're also going for a Moses basket then a cot - we've been offered a stunning Moses basket by someone who's just had a baby. We'll buy a new mattress for it, obviously! Think after that it'll be an ikea cot.

monkeymoonpig · 09/04/2015 22:54

Similar here whatabout i was all up for 6mths in our room - after 6.5wks of poor DP sleeping on the sofa so he could sleep before work and me waking DS every time i moved, he went in his own room and we never looked back! i was so scared to begin with i slept on floor next to crib each baby is different but DS took to his own space really well, only ends up in our bed now when he's poorly. Fingers crossed this baby is a good sleeper, esp as im going to have to have shorter mat leave Confused

Treaclepie19 · 09/04/2015 23:07

We're going to get a chicco next to me co sleeper and a cot bed and then whenever we feel ready we will move baby.

Don't know what we will use during the day yet.
