miss I'm really pleased to hear your email seems to have been received well.

ambient I think it's a personal decision about the scan that only you and your partner can make. I would suggest though that you think carefully about how reassured you'll actually feel? If hearing the heartbeat and scans on previous occasions have only made you feel better for a day or so, will you just have spent money and then be in the same position as you are now? As I say though, it's very personal and you have to do what you feel is best.

ambientolf · 01/04/2015 18:30

Jessica you have hit the nail on the head there. Which is exactly why I dont think DP will agree to it because he knows I dont get any long term reassurance from it! I just can't wait to feel kicks & feel pregnant! My mind is in a whirl because yes it's £40 which for me wasn't even my weekly cigarettes, but is it going to help me?
Think will defo speak to DP when he gets home from work & see what we can do. Maybe I'll leave it another week & if I still feel panicked then we can look at booking something x
Thanks all FlowersEaster Grin

So we are team blue! Sonographer seemed quite certain and said "there is the penis".

Now to keep it secret from everyone in real life for the next 24 weeks!

Was so lovely to seem him again - he was wiggling around like crazy and seemed very happy!

shinjuku09 · 01/04/2015 19:10

Glad to hear the email seems to have helped miss! And also that your appointment went ok.

Ambient I totally agree with Jessica. Would it reassure you for long? If so go ahead and do it! But if not then I'd avoid it as it might even fuel your anxiety - you might end up more anxious in future if you don't get regular scans. I know it's hard to resist but I do think sometimes you have to stop yourself regularly checking things are ok unless you are really sure it will help! Another reason I don't like home dopplers. Think their existence causes more anxiety than reassurance! But each to their own and only you know what you helps you stay relaxed.

shinjuku09 · 01/04/2015 19:22

Ambient, a serious suggestion - you could spend the £40 you're saving on regular massages instead to try to help keep any anxiety at bay?!

PS I didn't mean to sound scathing about people who get extra scans or use a doppler. I just don't like the thought of people making themselves even more anxious!

ambientolf · 01/04/2015 19:24

maths that's good to hear!!!

skinjuku to be honest I don't think it will reassure me for very long either, as I am also worried about the 20 week scan showing deformities so ill be worrying about that either way!! Think what I need to do is take a nice long bath & relax. I need to be patient & wait, as if I don't now then all I'm going to do whilst pregnant is wish the baby to be here & not enjoy it!
This is all very logical in my head now, it's nice to write it all down & I think I will definitely leave it a week. I already feel calmer now xx

DeladionInch · 01/04/2015 20:00

£40 is half way to a decent sling. Or a first pair of shoes plus coffee and cake out to celebrate. Or a handmade personalised blanket with name and dates on. Or a really comfy pair of maternity trousers...

Soontobemummyto5 · 01/04/2015 20:08

I'm new to the tread, I had a private scan yesterday (16wk) and it was well worth the money, so lovely seeing how baby has changed and found out we are having a baby girl. I'm just so impatient and couldn't wait until 27th April. I've tried to attach the pic hope it works x

ovumahead · 01/04/2015 20:59

Welcome soontobemummyto5! U have my 20 week scan in 27th April as well. Also had a private 16 week scan at the weekend, found out we're having a girl too :-) absolutely delighted! Your scan pic is amazingly clear. Is that the placenta the baby's head is resting on?

ovumahead · 01/04/2015 20:59

I not u!

Treaclepie19 · 01/04/2015 21:06

Welcome and congrats soontobe :)

How lovely ovum :)
12 days til I get to find out if we're having a boy or a girl :)

My hormones are all over the shop tonight :(
In tears on and off for no reason.

Soontobemummyto5 · 01/04/2015 21:30

Yes she hiding behind the placenta, I tried skipping round the room jumping up and down but she wouldn't budge, it's the first private scan we've had and was surprised at how clear the pics were. It's made it all seem real now as have no bump at all and no real symptoms other than very occasional sickness

Toffeegirl39 · 01/04/2015 21:53

Welcome soontobemummy!
What an amazing scan pic, so cute!!
Bought a Joolz mamas and papas pram today second hand, hope it will be ok. Hope I can get a car seat for it too! Was such a good price though I couldn't resist.
Feeling sorry for myself too as caught a cold?? Also bonzo I've made another appointment at the dentist - stopped the corsodyl and just flossing and brushing. Blister on gum still there but no worse . Fingers crossed!
My 20wk scan is on 14 April - counting down! Anyone know if they sell you a 3d pic at that one?

Soontobemummyto5 · 01/04/2015 21:59

I've never known the nhs do the 3d/4d pics but I know most of their machines are capable they only have to press a button to turn it on and if they suspect any problems at the 20 wk scan they will look in more detail in 4d but think that's about it.

Maths88 · 02/04/2015 05:05

Early start today as flying back to England for the Easter period - going to be even harder to keep our secret but I love having something just the two of us know - it's just like when we knew we were pregnant and hadn't told anyone!

ovumahead · 02/04/2015 06:59

treacle I hope you're feeling better this morning. Pregnancy is such a roller coaster. I felt like that yesterday morning in a 4 hour-long meeting at work! Awful.

I'm super paranoid this morning - have been feeling flutters and some slightly stronger movements every now and then, now just absolutely nothing for 2 days. Been prodding and poking my tummy, but nothing. Just shone a torch on it - nothing (I am quite podgy though so maybe the light can't travel that far!). Also my tummy is normally quite firm in the morning, this morning it just feels it's usual flabby wobbly mess. WHERE IS MY BABY?! Luckily I have my 16 week midwife appointment this afternoon at 4....but still going to drive myself mad between now and then.

Anyone else feeling like this?

sauvblanc21 · 02/04/2015 07:56

shin, Deladion Jess, I take it from this thread you two are not having a private scan between 12 and 20 weeks?? Phew! I thought I was the only one! Smile I don't want to know gender and whilst I'm DESPERATE to see Nibling again (and 8th May is aaaages away!), like you say, I think it would only reassure for moments! Feel reassured others on here are waiting. Anyone else??
(But obvs congrats all on scans everyone else Grin, I am of course a little bit jel Wink) xxx

sauvblanc21 · 02/04/2015 07:57

you three - it's too early Wink x

Treaclepie19 · 02/04/2015 07:58

Thank you ovum :)
I do feel better today.
I'm the same as you with the movements and worrying. Can't wait to see baby and know if all is ok.

OP posts:
DeladionInch · 02/04/2015 08:06

nope, I'm not spending a month's food money on something I can wait for

Toffeegirl39 · 02/04/2015 08:08

I've felt movements and then nothing for days/even a week so I think it's normal. Can you ask midwife to listen for heart beat if you are worried? Mine did. It really helped.
I've had a cold this week but now my throat is really sore. Any point in going to doc?? I have had tonsillitis before but it's not that bad ( at the moment) and concerned that its Easter weekend coming up. Thoughts appreciated. Feeling sorry for myself. Envy

Toffeegirl39 · 02/04/2015 08:10

Oh and I'm not having any private scans either. Combination of the cost and trust In NHS/ lefty ness but not judging anyone who has chosen to do so.

Maths88 · 02/04/2015 08:11

Spam not sure if you'll see this but good luck with scan today!

sauvblanc21 · 02/04/2015 08:13

Go before Easter weekend toffee. I went a couple of months ago with a suspected infection and the lovely doc gave me an antibiotics prescription "just in case" it didn't clear up as the weekend was coming up - nice eh! In the end I didn't need them so chucked prescription in bin! Fingers crossed you can get in before weekend. X

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 02/04/2015 08:21

ovum if you look back to Sunday you'll find an almost identical post from me, midwife found the heartbeat at my 16wk appointment and feel much better. Think the uterus is on the move and that's why im not feeling so much now it's behind my flabby belly hope your appointment goes well Smile
