Meant to say Bethbe, I don't know if they are still doing it, but we got a 'baby box' from Toys 'R' Us, it is all Avent products, it had the electric steriliser, the breast pump, three small bottles (they don't last long so don't buy many of them) and three of the bigger sized bottles, all the teats and lids for the bottles, it also had a couple of magic cup things for 3m+, some of the VIA feeding system things (haven't worked that bit out yet!!) and some dummies thrown in for good measure, and it was £40. I don't know if that will help? I always used pampers nappies for DS, and have stocked up on them for this baby. And I used to use Johnsons wipes but DS started coming out in spots with them not long ago, I don't like huggies wipes, they are too thick, and I can't stand the smell of pampers ones, so we now use the simple ones, they are quite a bit cheaper than the others as well, so I like them!! LOL

As with most things baby related, it is all what you are happy with, and basically trial and error really. Something that is great for one, isn't great for another.

amyjade · 07/11/2006 15:53

Hi everyone,
Just had a 36 week scan to check all is well for next weeks c section, the baby is still breech so i probably would have ended up with a section anyway and it already weighs 8lb 12 !!! so it looks like this one will be well over 9lb. I have some wonderful pictures of it's face, you can even see that it's got loads of hair!!
Anyway good luck to all of you and i will post again when LO's born.

pussycatmomma · 07/11/2006 15:55

NatalieJane · 07/11/2006 16:03

PCM, I should hope so, she was due to be induced Friday just gone, no news yet though. Keep an eye either on her ante-natal thread (October) or on the positive after TTC thread (listed in the ante-natal area)

Charleesunnysunsun · 07/11/2006 16:35

Afternoon.

I took 2 painkillers and my anti sickness, the pain is worse then ever and i can't stop being sick. at this rate im going to have to go back to the hospital as im really feeling ill.

Being sick has set off a series of contractions though but they keep stopping. The good news is dp's work are letting him take a week off to help me out.

Hope everyones ok.

NatalieJane · 07/11/2006 16:38

Oh no Charlee

PCM, if you are still about news has arrived, see the positive after TTC thread

bcsnowpea · 07/11/2006 18:08

I can't believe how quickly the adorable lo's are coming now - but still a bit .

DH is getting very excited. He keeps asking me to convince lo to come out (we're at 39+3 so it could still be a while). I keep telling him that lo is too cosy. Also, when do they ever listen to their mothers? However, doc wants to do a membrane sweep today, so maybe DH's prayers will be answered, and he can meet his lo.

I'm so glad to read that I'm not the only one having dreams about this whole thing. Had a very judgemental one last night about lo not being able to latch properly. I was out on the street and everyone passing by gave me very disapproving stares .

A question for those who have had babies before - do you recommend buying one maternity bra and guessing your size, for just after birth, then buying more, or should I just wait until my milk is in? I haven't finished packing my hosp bag yet (tempting fate), and this is one of my question mark items.

NJ- I know you've been waiting for your lo for a while now, but good luck getting through this one last day.
Charlee- good news about your dp getting a week off. Hopefully the rest will convince your pain to settle down a bit.

NatalieJane · 07/11/2006 18:23

Bcsnowpea, I think the advice is to get fitted now for your nursing bras. When the milk comes in, your boobs will grow and 'fill up' very quickly, but within a week or two they will settle back down again. DS was born on the Monday, by the Thursday my boobs were like bowling balls very Jordan-esque, by the following Thursday they had more or less gone back to how they were before the birth.

It wasn't really for the sake of having the baby today that I wanted to go into labour, just because it is my last chance of having the hospital birth, my midwives go on call for me from tomorrow, so from now on really if I go into labour I am stuck at home, which is bloody scary!! LOL

youngmum21 · 07/11/2006 20:47

hi all,

Well had my sweep earlier and i thought it was the mosr painful experiance eva!!!!
Am 1cm dialated and cervix is soft so there a 50/50 chance of it working whoo!!!
Been having strong period type pains since and lower bak pain so am keeping my fingers crossed!!
Am booked in for sun for induction if this doesnt work but have to go in sat nite which im not to pleased bout but i guess it will be tough!!
Hope everyone else is ok?? xx

Charleesunnysunsun · 07/11/2006 20:53

Youngmum21 - Sorry it was painfull for you, your niggles are all good signs though so hopefully your LO wont be to long in coming now.

I am feeling damn right misrable, i know i keep coming on here moaning! My dp is trying to pursuade me to call the on call dr but i really don;t want to go back into hospital again. I can't keep even sips of water down now and the actual vomiting is making the pain unbelivable. Im just trying to do things to take my mind off it but it's not working so far. LO is still wiggling about quite happy though so im in no rush to go anywhere, that's all im thankfull for at the moment is that it me thats ill not LO as that would be 100x worse.

I got fitted for my maternity bra in Marks and Spencer and im ment to be going back for a feeding bra but im going to see if i can feed first as i don't want to waste money they are not the cheapest things to buy!

Hope everyone is well.

Hattie05 · 07/11/2006 21:31

NJ why are you so worried about home birth? You know you can change your mind at any point - even during labour.

I can't wait for mine, i'm scared that i'll go over too far and they'll make me be induced in hospital . Look at all the positives of home birth, i'm hoping i'll 'cope' much better as i'll have distractions in my own home rather than pacing round a hospital room staring at the blank walls. Plus the best thing is not having to make that very uncomfortable car journey to hospital again! .

bcsnowpea - i've bought a couple of nursing bras in a cup size bigger than what i'm wearing now as last time i did get a lot bigger and they stayed like that for some time. You will need quite a few due to leakages, and of course at first you have to wear them day and night to keep the breastpads in place. So i shall probably be sending dp out in the early days to stock up!

NatalieJane · 07/11/2006 21:44

Youngmum, I hope things carry on for you
Charlee, I really don't know what to say, maybe you should think again about hospital, I know how hard it would be, but if it is your only option...?
Hattie, I am scared of the home birth for loads of reasons, mainly the fact that I don't want to give birth in my house, I didn't want to go through that pain again with out a fully fledged epidural, I don't want my son to see me like that, I don't want that feeling of not being able to cope again, I didn't want to do it on my own! But because of child care reasons I don't have a choice, now we have hit the 37 week mark I will start getting my head around it and come to terms with it as it were! I am just hoping and praying that it is over with quickly now, and there is some of me that is hoping I do go too far over so they will have to take me into hospital!! LOL What a bloody wuss I am!!!

chubley · 07/11/2006 22:10

Congratulations purpleluce, spinach and stacey on the arrival of your babies!

I'm still here, trying not to get too impatient but just trying to enjoy each day in case it's my last with just the two DCs! I went overdue with both of them. My original due date by LMP wasn't till tomorrow, the 8th, anyway.

Charlee, sorry to hear you're feeling so awful. Hope having your DP off work'll help.

Youngmum21, I've got my sweep on Sat! Eeek!! Sorry yours was so painful. Hope bubs is here before then and that yours gets a move on before induction.

Quite a few people are starting to get niggles, I had a few last night after going to bed which kept me awake for an hour or two along with the excitement! They were like tiny v mild contractions every 3-4 mins. When I eventually got out of bed they died down, tho. I just wanted to lie there for a while enjoying feeling LO kick and shuffle in case that was it - this is my last baby so want to enjoy his/her movements inside me while I can.

I remember with my 2nd child, contractions were every 5 mins all the way thru the latent stage and the first part of full blown labour, they tricked me by not really getting closer together, so I ended up going into hospital quite late on as was coping with a tens machine. So it could be quicker this time, have to watch out so I don't have the baby at home or in the car!

Hattie05 · 08/11/2006 02:24

Hi everyone, well i'm up as i've been tossing and turning in bed (v unusual for me so i knew something must be happening!). since i've been awake i've been clock watching and i'm having some sort of contractions every 10 mins and they last for 5minutes. But they aren't very painful, just a really strong tightening of the stomach, so does it just mean they are Braxton Hicks? I've never felt these before so i wouldn't know!
I'm sitting here sipping raspberry leaf tea praying that its labour but i know deep down it could be nothing.
My last labour i woke with extremely strong/painful contractions every 5 minutes so i don't really know what they felt like to start with as i was asleep!
Oh please please please let this be it!

bcsnowpea · 08/11/2006 02:33

Thank you all for your advice on bras. Hopefully I'll get a chance to go down tomorrow and pick up a few, however, after a sweep today and sex (woohoo!), am starting to have quite a few contractions.
While I'd love lo to come, I'm not completely ready yet. Aargh! I feel very odd wishing for this to be both a false alarm and the real thing .

Just wondering if anyone else has had problems with haemorrhoids. I think I've managed to develop some in the last two hours, which were probably brought on by the extra iron I'm taking. Any advice on getting rid of them, or should I avoid medicated treatments and just keep them... calm?

NatalieJane · 08/11/2006 08:10

Does anyone know how long it takes for pre-eclampsia to set in? I know I am probably just worried about nothing, but after yesterdays midwife appointment, when my BP was up but not anywhere near danderously so, my urine was clear (but only checked by student midwife, however I don't think it is that difficult to match the colour to the side of the pot!) and babies heart beat being spot on and strong, I have now ballooned up, I can hardly move my feet and toes because they are just so big there is nowhere for them to move to! My left hand isn't too bad but my right wrist and hand are really puffed up (I have had to take my watch off which is normally quite loose) and my face - I can hardly open my eyes past half way, even the inside of my mouth feels swollen. Also I am really thristy, I mean I am literally drinking pint after pint of water and still my mouth is dry, but I am weeing loads so I don't think it is the excess water causing the swelling. The baby is still wriggling about like mad, so I am not too worried just yet, just don't know if something like pre-eclampsia can set in that quickly?

Any ideas?

Good luck to everyone who seems to be at least making progress Keep us updated please!

NatalieJane · 08/11/2006 08:11

Dangerously even...!

DebbsyandBibby · 08/11/2006 08:14

nj phone your mw just to be on te safe side no advice to offer sorry tc

NatalieJane · 08/11/2006 08:18

Thing is, it is the first day they are on call for me, and I don't want to seem like a PITA! If I knew for sure that there is no way that I can be tested clear for everything yesterday and then within 12 hours get all the symptoms than I know I don't have to ring IYSWIM? I did swell up quite badly with DS, but only in my feet and only after he was born, so maybe I am just prone to it?

My wrist/hand, feet and eyes are killing me, I can barely close my eyes, have been sat up all night so that gravity could help with the closing, but not sure they ever actually did close!!

youngmum21 · 08/11/2006 08:29

morning all,
