youngmum21 · 07/11/2006 08:31

morning all,

Hope you are all well?
Charlee glad you got some painkillers soundslike you been having a very rough time of it!!!
m2t your lo is absolutly beautiful xx
HAd a bad nite last nite was tossing and turning all nite think im a bit worried bout my sweep today and was hoping my labour mite start b4 hand but no such luck!!!
Think we will have to talk about sorting a date out for being induced today as im 41+2 which im dont want to happen but lo seems willing to stay in foreva hopefully when mw does sweep she can tell me some good news!!!!

Sorry for moan xx

DebbsyandBibby · 07/11/2006 08:33

Hattie get some prune juice that should sort you out.

Charleesunnysunsun · 07/11/2006 09:01

Morning

Well unfortunatley the painkillers didn't work, but that was taking 1 and the dr said to take 2 if they had no effect so i will try that but not untill this evening when dp get's home as they make you sky high! I wasn't sick though so the anti sickness must have worked so that's a bonus. Hopefull dp will beable to arrange some time off that will give me a bit of relief.

Youngmum - I had a sweep before and although they are a bit uncomfortable it's not to bad and hopefully it will be enough to bring on your LO which has GOT to be worth it! Good Luck for today.

NJ - Wow you managed to get there at least you can have your home birth, it's bound to be scary but at least as soon as it's born you can snuggle in your big comfy bed with your ds and your LO! Again good luck with your midwife appointment i hope it goes well. xxx

Hattie - im afraid i have no advice for you! I was on iron tablets with ds that made me really constipated and i balenced it out by eating dried fruits and lots of fiber. But yesterday i kept getting an urgent need for the toilet only to find nothing came out, it could be LO pushing down on your bowel. I'm not sure though so maybe mention it to your madwife next time you see her.

Well i hope you all have a good day, im getting incresingly bored already on this bed rest thingy, luckily i can still use mumsnet! I will have to get dp to get me some books to read!

NatalieJane · 07/11/2006 09:19

Youngmum, good luck with the sweep, as Charlee says it will be worth being uncomfortable for a few minutes if it leads to the birth. I have heard lots of people describing it lots of different ways, some could hardly feel anything. Fingers crossed we won't be hearing from you for a little while!!! (Meant in the nicest way of course!! )
Charlee, and a bit for you, you would think that just one thing would go your way for a change wouldn't you? I hope taking two tonight helps, maybe you could take just one again now to try and build it up in your system a bit?

Tesco have Bailey's on offer, 2 for £25, I cannot wait for this baby to be born....!!

FoghornLeghorn · 07/11/2006 09:21

Well nothing happened for me yesterday.

I got down on my hands and knee's and scrubbed the kitchen floor, cleaned all the skirting boards, sorted under stairs cupboard which is huge - I pulled everything out and organised it all back in again and still nothing nada zilch.
My tummy has definitely dropped, I can fit a flat hand between my boobs and bump, although not having increased pressume in my bits. Still have increased wetness and noticed alot of creamy discharge yesterday so am hopeful things are getting ready.

M2T - What a beautiful pic - Freya is gorgeous
Charlee - Sorry the painkillers didn't help - we are due the same day and if im getting seriously fed up then you must want to scream
Congrats to all the new arrivals

Charleesunnysunsun · 07/11/2006 09:21

Baileys on specail offer!

Why wasn't i informed! I love Baileys, must get down to Tesco.

NatalieJane · 07/11/2006 09:30

Baileys is definetly the very best thing about Christmas (all except DS's face on the morning!) Sitting on Christmas Eve, DH finally in from work, all three of us snuggled up under the throw watching some crappy crimbo film sipping baileys eating chocolates, tree lights twinkling away...

... I suppose we should make room for the baby this year as well!!

Charleesunnysunsun · 07/11/2006 09:33

Bloomin hell NJ your making me well up.

Just the thought of a nice snuggly family xmas with my dp and my children with the fire alight , a big glass of Bileys (after expressing of course) Ds can have Hot Chocolate!

Watching some crap xmas special with the tree lights aglow! Pure Bliss in my mind!

NatalieJane · 07/11/2006 09:37

Oh and don't forget the snow outside, the year before last it snowed all over christmas eve, christmas day, and boxing day it was great

Oh oh oh (or ho ho ho!!!! OK I know it was a bad joke....!) also you can't forget mince pies and the smell of the turkey in the oven and sprout water from getting as much of the dinner sorted as possible!! LOL

FoghornLeghorn · 07/11/2006 09:39

Ok I think I need your help now.

Have just had 3-4 mild niggles sitting here at the computer in the space of about 15 mins - I mean mild as in the first 2 I thought Oh thats a bit uncomfy and by the 3rd I realised that was prob a contraction/niggle. They are only lasting a couple of seconds.
What do I do about DH - he is working a 2 hours drive away on a good journey, quite likely the traffic will be bad, it usually is. Should I call him and just let him know to keep on his toes or should I wait and see if they develop a bit more first.
Am at home alone with DD so am feeling a bit nervous now

Charleesunnysunsun · 07/11/2006 09:42

There is nver any harm in warning your DP to keep on his toes, but i wouldn't worry to much, my midwife told me that when the contractions are 5 mins apart and lasting 50-60 secs then to go in, but do call the labour ward if your worried they will tell you either way.

NatalieJane · 07/11/2006 09:43

FHLH, I know this might not seem like much help, but go with your instincts. If you think it may turn into something (fingers crossed!) then ring him, or just give it a while, maybe an hour or so and then see what's happened?

I feel like the queen of false starts but as yet I haven't actually had to get DH from work or bother with the hospital because I have always just somehow known that it wasn't for real.

If you are nervous, can you get a friend round or someone just in case, it will take your mind off of it for a bit as well if they are still only very mild.

NatalieJane · 07/11/2006 09:45

Ooops, I suppose I had better start making tracks to the midwife, hope it takes off FHLH.

Catch you all later xxx

FoghornLeghorn · 07/11/2006 09:48

I don't think I will ring him yet - knowing him he will turn up home without warning as he'll panic.

What can i do to keep them coming pressuming this is the start of real labour ?

fatbetty · 07/11/2006 09:53

You all are making me feel Christmasy! I was in Bromley over the weekend and their shopping centre had all their Christmas decorations up and even children were visiting Santa!!! Couldn't believe it!

Felt a few little contractions last night and hoped that was the beginning of labour but nothing progressed. Which is probably a good thing as our heating and hot water went off last night and won't be able to get it fixed until tomorrow!! Now just hope nothing happens until that gets fixed. I'm not going to be boiling loads of water between contractions so that I can take a decent bath.

NatalieJane · 07/11/2006 09:53

Walk up and down the stairs side ways, clean the oven/windows, don't get in the bath, go for a nice brisk walk (aha when was the last time any of us did "brisk"?!!!) Also I don't know if this does actually keep them coming, but I can feel mine a lot more if I lie down on my back, watch out for any feelings of dizziness though if you try that!

I am waiting for the taxi BTW, so if I dissapear, you know why!!

Delia · 07/11/2006 10:20

Morning all

Hope the resting works for you Charlee and that you don't get to board.

FHLH keep an eye on those niggles, am thinking of you.

NJ congrats on reaching your homebirth marker, even though it's scary for you hopefully it will take some of the pressure off.

M2T - what a beautiful picture, she's adorable.

Bethbe · 07/11/2006 10:39

Hi all,

Congratulations to all those with new arrivals! Very !

Last day at work last Friday and didn't shed a single tear! Got myself in a panic yesterday about all the things I have to do. Looked at the hospital bag list and blank birth plan with sadness - thought 'I'm supposed to having a little holiday!'?

Other things started to get to me like, - if I can't breastfeed, how many bottles do I need, - and what type, - there seem to be millions of choices. How is it best to sterelise, - and what do I sterelise, and how many bottles do I really need to continue my once-a-week washing up task, - and what nappies, and what barrier cream if any, and what wipes and and and and and.........maybe I should go back to work and pretend this is all not happening!

Sorry for little rant, - I'm just finding it all so daunting..........- expect this is just the beginning though - does it go on to 'what school/childcare/child trust fund etc'?. No-one ever warned me !

harrogatemum · 07/11/2006 13:06

Bethbe - last time around when I had twins I used to do about 12 bottles per day so you would probably need about 6 for one baby.

I used Avent bottles with the first sized teats - then they move up as they get older and can suck harder! I also bought an Avent steam steriliser as it had free bottles with it which made life easy! Used SMA Gold formula from when they were two weeks (and I could no longer handle breastfeeding round the clock).

Re nappies - everyone has their favourite - I personally use Pampers - started on the NEw Baby ones and then moved onto the Active Fit once they were a bit bigger. Wipes - well whatever is on special offer at any given time for me! Usually Johnsons!

Anyhow - you will work it out as you go along so dont worry too much!

FoghornLeghorn · 07/11/2006 13:51

Have just finished my long walk - had a couple of much stronger contractions but nothing for a while, although still very crampy.
Brought ingredients for really hot curry which am going to try tonight, am also going to try sex, I meant to try last night but tiredness got the better of me.

Someone on other thread recommended nipple stimulation so am goingt o resort to that soon

NatalieJane · 07/11/2006 14:47

Midwives went fine, she said my BP is up a bit, but not worryingly high, just higher than my usual, and the baby is now officially engaged HURRAH!!. I went into town and made a good start on DS's christmas pressies after our little chat this morning, brought home as much as I could carry, now I just have to find somewhere to hide it all before I have to pick him up at 3!! Not five minutes after I got in the door from town the pharmacy delivered 4 canisters of entenox and one of oxygen in case the baby needs it, so we really are now only waiting for the pool to arrive which should be by the end of the week. Then, when I got rid of the chemist I just sat down to eat my sarnie that I bought in town and next door came round to see what the NHS car was doing outside and was I OK, she was here for over an hour....

Anyway the point of all of that was that I am now feeling very wet and uncomfortable 'down there' but hadn't had chance for a wee since I got in from town so don't know if it is just a little bit of wee or not, so sit tight, I might make my hospital birth yet!! LOL

Phew, also managed to track down a bottle of my very very very favorite perfume in the whole wide world, and am now swimming in it LOL

Oh and I forgot to say yesterday, I rang for the results of that blood test I had on Friday to see if I am immune to DS's chicken pox, bearing in mind the nurse that took the blood told me I needed to find out the results ASAP and to get the receptionist to chase them up if they weren't back by yesterday lunch time, I still haven't got the results, I rang yesterday she said they hadn't opened the post yet and no she couldn't check for me if they were in the post because they wouldn't have been entered into the system, obviously I was down there this morning for the midwife appointment and asked then she said no they aren't on the system, so I still don't know!! So much for a bloody emergency!!

saralou100 · 07/11/2006 15:13

hi!

charlee, so glad you got some help finally! for me the pain killers toook a couple of days to really start taking effect, then the difference was fantastic, definitely take 2 tonight! i'm now barely using the painkillers, last time was a week ago so hopefully you won't need them for long either, just to get you over this bad spell.. and don't do anything, just chill!

bethbe, lol at your little rant! mine and dp's favourite joke is that we wanted a baby, we didn't want this parenting malarky! you'll do the same as we all do, spend a small fortune getting it right! we use tesco's nappys and whatever wipes are on special offer.. bottles, you'll need 6, but you may not need them at all if you breastfeed, we used avent for ds and we had a microwave steriliser as we have no room in the kitchen to have one out all the time.. sterilised every evening before collapsing into bed

had another crappy nights sleep! had a lovely bath got out, thought i'd just lay on the bed to cool off and fell asleep (at 9pm) woke up at 2am still wrapped in the damp towel.. wide awake!! went back to bed about 6, back up at 8! knackered now! have done some tidying today in the kitchen, sorted out a load of crap and rubbbish! i've been nesting for ages now and nothings happening! i think ishould change my prediction on the stats to this baby is never coming out, no matter what i do! i'm not even having bh any more!

DebbsyandBibby · 07/11/2006 15:14

oooooh best of luck nj are you going to be next i wonder
which perfume ? my favourite is coco chanel madmoiselle
well i have a lovely suprise coming too no not the baby dh asked me if he could get me something special for when bibby is born, i said i would like a piece of jewellery in his birth stone which is Topaz for Nov and Dec (so im covered)
he has asked me the other day what my ring size is so .....
anyone else in labour yet?
im just washing all bibbys clothes and bedding in fairy mmmmm its smells lovely 7 washes to be done in all 4 done 3 more to go lol think im nesting x
oh and ive got for dh one of those willow tree figures the one for new dad just waiting for it to come.

NatalieJane · 07/11/2006 15:21

LOL Debbsy, you would think it is some exotic designer brand the way I go on about it, but nope, I normally wear D&G Light Blue, but my fav is good old Charlie Red, it is only a fiver for a huge bottle, but it is just so nice, I have real trouble getting hold of it though, I refuse to buy it on line for the simple reason that it is only a fiver, but all I can ever find in town normally is the spray bottles of it, and that just isn't the same.

It is a complete mental feel good thing for me, if I ever feel a bit down in the dumps one quick spray of it and I am happy again!! LOL Think I might go and buy a few more bottles to get me through the birth!! LOL
