brixton where are you hiring your pool from? I'm also aiming for home birth but theres so many websites I wondered if you'd had a recommendation?

Hidingthefear · 06/03/2015 23:16

Oops missed about 6 pages there! Didn't realise my tablet hadn't refreshed Blush

smogsville · 06/03/2015 23:21

Nunkie/ skyra - I had no experience either before DD. Worry not.

FiRaffe · 06/03/2015 23:25

Hehe floppy knocks!

Our health visitor is coming on Friday to have a chat and show me a dvd on crying......

So tired, but had a great time catching up with the NCT gang. Shame we couldn't all be there but new babies were a good excuse. We went to a turkish place and they couldn't have been nicer - they did a chef's special of marinated chicken and lamb with basmati rice and roasted courgette and peppers, a side salad and bread. Yummy!

Hidingthefear · 06/03/2015 23:50

Apparently this is how weight gain is distributed, but it's only an average/estimate. I've gained 1stn 2lb so far and I'm 35 weeks on Monday. Hopefully the breastfeeding will help me shed it again afterwards
Baby 3.4 kg (7.5 lbs)
Placenta 0.68 kg (1.5 lbs)
Amniotic fluid 0.9 kg (2 lbs)
Breasts 0.9 kg (2 lbs)
Blood supply1.36 kg (3 lbs)
Fat & protein 3.1 kilos (7 lbs)
Womb 0.9 kg (2 lbs)
Retained water 1.8 kilos (4 lbs)

Belly is really sore. Had my belly button pierced a long time ago but haven't worn a piercing in it for years. The skin is really stretched though and it's just a big itchy stretch mark where my piercing should be. Creams aren't helping :( feels like the skins going to rip it's so stretched and sore. On a lighter note, the stretch mark looks like a little man doing a star jump which makes me smile a bit when I look at it.

DH is going to be starting a new job, pretty much on the due date, so bye bye paternity leave :/ he's asking if he'll be able to take unpaid leave at short ish notice but the new company would have no obligation to let him. Fingers crossed they are understanding when the time comes. And now he's all anxious about actually handing his notice in due to family ties. Then they'll try quizzing me on why he's leaving and I can't be arsed with it. If anyone asks I'm just going to say it's nothing to do with me, wife or not, he's big enough to make his own decisions.

Great, now the dogs barking at the birthing ball. Sod this I'm going to bed and leaving DH playing fifa.

Sorry to be so self indulgent there ladies, moan moan moan, mumsnet is like therapy :)

Hope you all have a good night's sleep.x

Rustyzilla · 07/03/2015 00:25

Good evening all, I apologise I haven't read back, but been quite busy this evening. My waters broke a few hours ago and I am currently on the delivery suite being monitored! No contractions as yet. Just sent DH home to get some sleep as I will be here overnight. Cannot believe this has already started, I am so unprepared! Thank god hospital bag was pretty much sorted! I'm 35+3! (Well, 35+4 now).

PenguinPoser · 07/03/2015 00:26

Hehe I will remember about the floppy knocks Grin

Nunkie I frequently feel baby hiccups around 3-4 times a day too.

Hiding totally know what you mean about skin stretching and being sore, the middle of my bump is getting so sore I can barely have anything touching it anymore. Just feel the skin is all going to split!

Feel better about the weight gain now thanks everyone Smile. Enough so that have been to a friends house and had some dominos pizza. Yummy. Love my food so much at the moment.

Too late to be getting to bed... Night night!

PenguinPoser · 07/03/2015 00:27

Cross post Rusty good luck hope all goes well if baby decides to make a slightly early appearance! Flowers

RL20 · 07/03/2015 01:39

Haven't kept up with the posts tonight/last night so apologies! Just got up for a wee and came to have a quick nosey on here and couldn't go without saying good luck to you Rusty! Hope all goes well BrewThanks

RL20 · 07/03/2015 07:34

Morning everyone.
I just want to ask a quick question before we all start chatting away!
I want to get the last few bits we need for baby this weekend and want to know what you still have left to get, to see if I'm forgetting anything!!
I just need to get;
A changing mat to keep at my mums house.
Some more cotton mattress sheets for the Moses basket.
Isofix base for the car seat (still weighing up pros and cons).

And that's all I can think of! Have bought a fair few bit of clothing in 0-3 now and have been given a few bits too so I'm going to try and not buy any more clothes even though that's hard!
What have you all still got to get?

BrixtonBunny · 07/03/2015 07:56

Hiding I'm not sure yet to be honest A there seem to be lots of websites all hiring pools for around the same price! Thought I'd try and sort transfer to a new hospital's home birth team next week and at the same time ask if they had a recommendation, or if they have pools you can hire. I'll let you know what they say! I'm excited about the prospect! But it does feel very daunting given that new house is still no where near habitable Hmm

Rusty eek, keep us informed and good luck!

RL I don't think we have any big baby purchases left, though we will need to assemble the cot and travel system once we've moved.

I've just realised my baby shower next week is on Mother's Day - a lovely coincidence but feels very real now! Can't wait - looking forward to an afternoon with all my fave lady friends. Feel very lucky as this is the first baby out of all my close friends so they don't yet have baby fatigue.

Lower back still achey - not sure how I'm going to deal with a weekend of painting Shock

35+3

MoominMama22 · 07/03/2015 08:03

rustykeep us posted!

RL I'm still needing to get some storage solution things for wardrobe on baby's room, breast feeding pillow, changing mat ( don't know if worth getting 2? Would it be worth getting one for downstairs or just more clutter?)
Car window shade, footstool for comfier BFing, baby bath (although have bath support for using in big bath) hooded towels, changing bag if I can find a comfy pretty one or will just use the one I got with travel system, batteries for the wee vibrating rocker seat.

I'll be watching to see what else people still have to get as I'm sure there's things I'm not thinking of.

Lauren82000 · 07/03/2015 08:11

Good luck Rusty, how exciting even if they are a little too early perhaps they are still a decent size and will need minimal monitoring.

Brixton be careful doing too much or you might kick it all off.

We're taking DD to the zoo this afternoon after her swimming lesson. Not looking forward to all the walking. I'm going to be bench hunting every 15mins Wink it'll be ok though I'm sure. Could of done with doing my last min hospital bag purchases but I suppose I can do them tomorrow instead.

TheBooMonster · 07/03/2015 08:13

Ohh good luck rusty!!

We don't have any big purchases left, it's all little bits that I want, mostly for my ever growing labour bag. I do need to track down the newborn car seat that fits in the tank (travel system) and the lay back insert for the sit'n'relax, DD's diss will be gruntled that we'll be depriving her of the high chair attachment that she uses for one in 100 meals though!

RL20 · 07/03/2015 08:15

Thanks both.

Moomin car window shade is a good one I hadn't thought of.
RE changing mats I read somewhere that someone had 1 for upstairs and 1 for downstairs but as were currently in a flat it's not necessarily (obviously lol) so thinking to keep one at my mums as I will perhaps be here a lot whilst my partner is at work during the day etc.

Have just had a proper look through the Mothercare app and it's really handy! Quite modern and up to date, too.
On the 'features' bit there's some checklists and I've just come across some more things I had forgotten;
A non slip bath mat for our bath as I've got one of those Infant Summer Baths which is like a relaxed seat, so doesn't have any suckers on the bottom.
A nightlight, or, as he'll be in a Moses basket so can't get an attachable one yet, I'm thinking some sort of light I can stick to the wall? Will have to have a look.
Baby journal - which I know a lot of us on here have already got.

RL20 · 07/03/2015 08:17

And yes I forgot to mention, Brixton with lower back ache be careful! Shock They say it's a sign of labour don't they? So like Lauren said, don't do too much!

skyra13 · 07/03/2015 08:20

Morning all :)
rusty good luck hope it is going well!
RL I still need to get a monitor and changing mat for baby bedroom I have asked for one that goes over the cot but brother in law is ment to be getting these and not a huge rush to get them straight away.
I won an isofix base on ebay had to collect it but I got it for a pound and its fine. Tip with ebay if you buy stuff late on a Sunday you got a good chance of getting it cheap! :)
mommin thanks I don't have a car shade so will look into that lol!
I don't think there is anything els I need but I will still find something to buy at the neally new sale todayGrin

smogsville · 07/03/2015 08:29

Rusty - wow good luck just woken up to read this. We're all thinking of you!

Hiding - my DH is taking annual leave instead of pat leave as he will only have been there six weeks or so provided baby doesn't come early. Would your DH's new job let him do that? Obv they are under no obligation but hopefully they would be reasonable under the circs? Even if just for a week? Defo don't get involved in the family nonsense. Congrats to him as well of course, I bet he's pleased.

RL - I need a new changing mat too thanks for reminder. It's a bit different for the second/ third timers, we tend to either have stuff already or just not be so bothered about what we might have forgotten on the grounds that experience teaches you that half the stuff you buy isn't as vital as you think it's going to be! We do need a load of furniture but that's for DD's new room so not relevant for a new baby per se.

Brixton do be careful with painting. I tried to do a bit of light garden sorting yesterday and had to stop as I got quite bad bump and back ache. Do listen to your body. I say this somewhat hypocritically as I did some painting when I was around 34 wks with DD Blush

skyra13 · 07/03/2015 08:34

Oh RE changing mats and if needing one downstairs, I have a changing station down stairs with mat, some people do it on floor and things but with a dog didn't fancy him trying to eat a pooey nappy while on the floor lol

Am getting a changing mat for on top of the cot upstairs just for convenience for of a night :)

FiRaffe · 07/03/2015 08:42

Good luck Rusty - hope you've had some rest and progress in some direction by now!

Things to buy - change mat (with sides are we've got an old desk as the change table )
Blackout blind
parasol for the travel system
Got the free verbaudet change bag but it might be a bit small so see when that arrives if we need another one and make sure we have a travel changing mat

I'll add window blind for the car to the list and I bet there is other stuff! We need to buy the cot too but not until the room is decorated next weekend -thankfully most places have it on next day delivery and we'll get a wardrobe from a local furniture recycling place (who deliver) so we can find something nice and sturdy!

BrixtonBunny · 07/03/2015 08:42

Car window shade and hooded towel are both being mentally added to the list!

I promise to take it as easy as I can Wink

Lauren82000 · 07/03/2015 08:44

I have no changing mat so that's on my list and a need a little bath support from mothercare like the last one my sister lent me. Still have no monitor but to be honest don't need that till baby is much bigger as we kept DD with us for the first few months and took her upstairs when we went to bed before doing the whole putting them to bed and staying downstairs.

Need some snacks and drinks for the hospital bag but I'd say I'm pretty much done for at least the first few weeks apart from nappies. Everything else will buy as needed or dig it out of the loft as we get to that stage.

I must say it's much easier being a second timer. You don't feel the need to buy everything before the baby comes and I'm pretty laid back about the whole thing. Except maybe spontaneous labour not experienced that before so not sure what to expect. Wink

skyra13 · 07/03/2015 08:49

Quick question on verbaudet? How long do they normally take to dispatch Items I ordered it 4 days ago says money will go out when dispatched but nothing has been dispatched yet!

Can anyone help thanks :D

RiverRocks · 07/03/2015 08:54

Good luck Rusty, looking forward to hearing from you and seeing pictures! Flowers

We've only got one changing mat which is downstairs, but I think we'll probably get another one for the bedroom for late night changes.

I finished for maternity leave yesterday, so hopefully I will be able to keep up with you all a bit better now. I've got plans for today, tomorrow and then at the midwife Monday morning, but I said to DH, what then? What do I do for up to 5 weeks? Had been hoping to do some crocheting/sewing but carpal tunnel has put paid to that, I struggle to bend or lift so won't be able to do much cleaning. I'm not a big tv watcher. I can't sleep because I'm so uncomfortable. No point going to cinema as it's not something I do normally and I have to go to the loo every 30 mins so it would spoil it. Can you tell I'm over-thinking this?? Confused

Rustyzilla · 07/03/2015 09:00

Ahh thanks everyone! Must AGAIN catch up! So anyway, so far not much to report, apart from a few feeble period pains all that has happened is my waters went (big gush then lots of trickling throughout the night) and amidst that I had my show. I've had the grand total of 40m max sleep and I am starving as I missed dinner last night and have only had toast since!

I have GD so baby is likely a good size, but have had steroid injection to mature lungs (mother ducker that hurt!) and throughout night was monitored hourly! Now on a ward waiting to find out what is going on.

Q re the FB page, I am on there but yet to 'out' myself. Is it totally secure? Anything I post on there won't show up on my personal news feed or to RL friends will it? Not ready to share news yet!

Re what I have not yet bought! Panic as we realised we have no car seat, no isofix base, no pram, no bedding! DH off to Mothercare today to deal with the situation! So I recommend you get those bits sorted, and pack your hospital bags! I still don't know how to work baby monitor, or gro egg, or tens machine, those were jobs for me whilst on mat leave! Confused
