Rusty I am being induced and plan to take a set of normal clothes as well as nightwear. Although my hospital do pessaries at 4 and 10pm then stay overnight so may or may not need them, but I'm not used to sitting around in pjs! Must must finish off my hospital bag. Going shopping for a couple of nursing bras tomorrow then should be able to finish it off. Babies bag is sorted.
Skyra no I don't think you have too many bags sounds about right. I'm trying to get all my stuff into one weekend bag but it's more than I thought!

Hope you have a less weepy day Annia I have been a tearful hormonal wreck as well recently and have been assured that it is normal Smile

Misty enjoy the last day at work! RL really hope to be reading later that you have your heating and hot water back on.
Lauren what a rude awakening! Hope you've had a coffee by now.

36w today Grin

RL20 · 06/03/2015 08:50

Penguin - thanks. Have woke up this morning as I was to expect them for 8am but generally here inbetween 8am and 10am. Partner had a call about half an hour ago to say one of the engineers had called in sick so they can't do it today, and don't work weekends!! So made a complaint and now apparently someone will be here before 2pm!! He's ringing the actual engineer company now to give a more accurate time. What a nightmare!!! So no clue as to whether they'll even come today really. And now I'm worrying that they will come out but will do half a job as they clearly can't be bothered!

PenguinPoser · 06/03/2015 08:51

Cross post RL I would assume you need to take all toiletries to hospital I think they often have some for emergencies but probably won't be very good. I am taking a towel too.
In terms of thermometers - I am having them mainly because I like sleeping in a cool/cold room and want to make sure baby has enough blankets etc. In our bedroom we have a thermostat anyway that says what the temp is, and for when baby moves to it's own room the baby monitor tells us the temp of the room. There's some vague guidance I read about how many layers of blanket depending on the room temp. Although I might just be being paranoid first time mum!

BrixtonBunny · 06/03/2015 08:55

I think we're still on track to book a home birth - need to sort that out early next week and book the pool (exciting!) - but will still have a bag ready to go in case we have to transfer over to hospital. Am 80 per cent packed but need to buy nursing bras and a nightie or some breastfeeding vests, and pack some baby clothes (and get DP to pack his own bag - I know he's made a list but that needs to translate into action!)

I'm really waddling at the moment - feeling like baby is quite low down and my lower back and hips are feeling really stiff and a bit achey still. Not sure how I'm going to cope with a weekend of painting, but I'm thinking it might actually do me some good to get some exercise - I think sitting in a chair all day in the office is a recipe for disaster.

One week left at work Grin To be honest I'm wishing I'd finished this week, but will work from home at least one day next week, maybe two, and all I really need to do is a mega handover pack and prepare a couple of announcements.

35+2

Siarie · 06/03/2015 08:58

I had a full hour of braxton hicks every 3-8 minutes last night. I seem to cause these episodes when I walk. We had just got back from the viewing and my whole bump was tight and painful walking home from the tube. Then the episode started so I timed it, I was crossing my fingers it would stop so I didn't have to go to hospital and luckily it did.

Lauren Pah no coffee waiting?!

The house we looked at was perfect but the location not so much. It was in the shabby part of Wimbledon. So next I think we are checking one out in Wimbledon village, then looking at Barnes, Kew, Richmond etc. shame though as the house realky was lovely.

BrixtonBunny · 06/03/2015 09:02

Lauren you are very lovely indeed to take your BIL to the station - I hope your DH knows he owes you one!

skyra13 · 06/03/2015 09:06

RL I am taking toiletries shampoo and wash I imagine will get rather sweaty giving birth, depending where I give birth Birth Centre or hospital both have en-suit bathrooms with showers so it easy to grab a shower, I like running the shower over my bump expesh if she has been hard most of the day seems to relax it.

RE bath and room thermometers I have he sticker ones for my room baby's rooms and living room and I have a winnie the pooh thermometer for the bath not sure if I will use it much.

It says on my hospital website for maternity ward what to take they do say on it they have towels but take your own if you want, I am just taking a big beach type towel.

RL20 · 06/03/2015 09:16

Penguin as another paranoid first time mum I think I will just get the room temperature thing anyway. Have also read the blankets info, think it was on the Mothercare website.
I've bought a black towel to take that's packed in my bag, so will have to look at the travel sized products on my next trip to asda.

A girl on Facebook sounds like she's having a right time of it at the moment. I think she's around 38 weeks and found out a couple of weeks ago she was going to be induced. She went in yesterday and they gave her the first pessary (is that what it's called? It wants me to autocorrect it to either predator or peasant!), nothing happened and couldn't give her a second because baby was still too active. Today they have tried to break her waters but can't, so she's got to wait 6 hours to see if anything happens and if not then a c section! Poor girl. Confused

RL20 · 06/03/2015 09:18

Cross post Skyra sorry, yes I think I'll get the room temperature sticker.
I think I really need to ask the midwives if they do 'tours' of the ward as I haven't got a clue about the showering facilities of anything! I feel like I really need to know now so I'm going to ask at my next midwife appointment next week.

FiRaffe · 06/03/2015 09:31

Our hospital has a list of what to take on yr website so might be worth checking where you're giving birth.

Got a mini wheelie suitcase for my things, hopefully with the changing bag for lo's stuff over the handle and a rucksack for DH....or that is the plan. Then a bag in the car with the top ups etc. DH looked so confused when I said we needed something that could be easily moved if we had to...men!

mswibble · 06/03/2015 09:40

Re thermometers, I got a cute little hippo thermometer from Tesco, its for bathwater and the babys room apparently. Seems to be accurate in the room but havent tried it in the bath yet. My Mum was utterly baffled by it and patiently explained that people had been using their elbows for decades! Haha!

I'm another one dithering with the bags. I do have quite a lot of stuff, including the most hideous nightie from Primark which I'll be quite glad to ruin so I never have to see it again, but none of it is packed! I have maternity pads, breast pads, disposable pants, plus all the baby stuff but its scattered across the house! That will be this weekends job I think, finalise and pack the bags. I'm taking my small carry on sized suitcase for me and then the matching tote bag packed with baby stuff. OH will be looking after himself but as we're only 5mins drive from the hospital I'm sure he'll be popping back and forth if he needs anything.

Me and my Mum are going off to the Baby & Toddler Show tomorrow, I'm actually very excited! Hoping to get the last bits and bobs ticked off the list and even if we don't buy from there it will be useful to see all the products and demos before buying. My mum and dad want to get the cot for us so she'll be looking at those and I've been thinking about getting one of those Angel Care monitors so will be on the lookout for demos.

And finally little bambino has finally woke up, he had me worried this morning as I hadn't really felt anything for a while and he didn't have his manic 20mins or so that he usually has when I get into bed. I've actually dialled triage twice and the line was busy, was going to see if they would check me out. But after my breakfast and morning coffee he's perked up and I can feel him having a boogie!

mswibble · 06/03/2015 09:47

Oh and thank you all for the tips about the first aid boxes, will be having a nosey in the chemists or Boots this weekend and definitely getting a list together. Baby Calpol is a must it seems! There is rather nice white First Aid metal box on Amazon that I'm thinking of getting, at the moment what odds and sods we have just stuffed into a tatty old tupperware tub!

daholster · 06/03/2015 09:49

I feel so ill...

Squidge14 · 06/03/2015 09:49

Morning all! Phew, thank god it's Friday! I normally work 2 days a week from home but only done one this week so it feels loooong! (that's bad isn't it, not sure I could do a 5 day week anymore!) Working until 38 weeks seemed like such a good idea...!

Thanks for the first aid kit prompt, I'll guiltily admit I hadn't even thought about it Blush we do want to do a baby first aid course though but haven't seen any decent looking ones near us, can anyone recommend?

So, I experienced my first Braxton hicks yesterday and they have been on and off since (at least I think they are BH! bump goes all tight and hard across the middle, at first I thought it was the baby pushing out with their back or something!)

I also bought travel sized toiletries for the hospital bag, I've packed: shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrush and lip balm. I need to get a bigger bag though the weekend bag I planned on using isn't quite big enough for all of my over packing and OH's stuff and snacks etc haven't even been packed yet!

TheBooMonster · 06/03/2015 09:50

rusty they induced me with the pessary and because I made quite a fuss they were regularly checking my cervix, so I lived in a nighty and big knickers. Might be a bit warmer to wear PJ's till the contractions start to mean business though!

I've been uncomfortable for an hour now with period type pains. Baby was hiccuping too so that added to there intensity. I wouldn't call them mild I'd say mild to wincing. Got a 5 hour drive now Confused I'm beginning to believe everyone when they say I'm not going to last till my due date. I never had any of these feelings with DD. But she did need dynamite. Wink

Lauren, call your mw why don't you?

daholster what's wrong?

mswibble · 06/03/2015 10:21

daholster hope you're ok!

Good luck with the driving lauren, five hours is a mammoth journey! I can barely cope with anything over half an hour to be honest.

misty how exciting! Last day at work! I have seven and half days left, not that I'm counting down ... honest!

daholster · 06/03/2015 10:28

Hard to explain, I just don't feel at all well. Slightly sicky, not, like I could sleep and my eyes want to shut, painful bump, thirsty (but sicky!) aching... If I try to be useful I need to sit down just with the feeling of sheer exhaustion. So glad I got dd to nursery. I just want to cry.

I wonder if a lot of it is anxiety? Not the painful bump though, that's horrid Sad

daholster · 06/03/2015 10:33

Oh btw lauren maybe prelabour? Can be on an off for weeks apparently. So the midwives told me last time at 39+5 when I was actually in labour with dd... I'm sure it would truly show itself if it was proper labour!!! Get worse and worse, you know...

But I would ring mw for advice, things like a UTI can trigger that sort of thing off.

OMG, at times this week I have felt a bit frightened to be on my own I feel so ill, like I might collapse - I've never collapsed... - but all seemed fine at the hospital yesterday so nothing is really wrong except it feel so so rubbish Sad I even have to wait for the right moment to type on here cos the rest of the time I feel too icky!!! Confused

34+3

FiRaffe · 06/03/2015 10:33

Oh daholster - I hope you feel better soon.

Lauren - just stop when you need to. I don't envy you a 5 hr drive.

My bump is very achy today and I think it's dropped. Only 33 weeks today though so hopefully just baby trying out the position for exit!

TinyTear · 06/03/2015 10:33

this is the list on my hospital website:

Clothes and personal items for the six hours to two days following the birth of your baby. Here are some suggestions:

For you:

An old t-shirt and pair of socks for labour
Personal items - toiletries, tissues, music, tennis ball or wooden massager, massage oils, pillow, water spray, lip salve, camera I would add a straw to drink water from, you don't want to have a contraction and wince while your DH is giving you water and end up soaking wet
Energy tablets
Snacks, magazines, newspapers, puzzle books (for you and your partner)
Change for the car park (we can issue a car park waiver for the time you are in labour) and phones
Breast pads and maternity pads
Disposable knickers - never bothered, I used granny pants from sainsbury's
Towel
Support bra to wear while breastfeeding
Dressing gown/slippers/nightwear
Comfortable clothing to go home in

For your baby:

Sleep suits
Vests, cardigan and hat
Baby bath towel never bothered, she didn't have a bath until she was 2 weeks old
Nappies
Cotton wool nope, we used wipes
Baby blanket
Car seat (for when you go home) nope, we took the pram
skyra13 · 06/03/2015 10:34

daholster Maybe have a bath or shower to help with the painful bump? Normally helps me when its sore.

daholster · 06/03/2015 10:34

*hot... Not not... (First post) Just weak and pathetic and utterly crap!!!
