This started as a TTC thread about a year ago, which, as so many of us C'ed, kind of fizzled out Smile. Since then, we've been joined by many other over-35ers to share the joys and grumbles of pregnancy in our decrepitude, and watch first our pubes, then our feet, disappearing from view.....

Oh indeed. It felt good to share the poo pain....Actually, the levels of TMI were great, as I had NO idea it was so common to suffer constipation in such an extreme way in pregnancy! The sheer levels of indignity confessed to on that thread....who could you ever share that with in real life?!

Gingerbreadlady1 · 05/03/2015 21:35

It's bloody brilliant. There's some real anger being expressed too!

Snooky17 · 05/03/2015 23:06

Lol I love that thread, but feeling less love for Hexy and her size 8 arse Wink, tho have just weighed myself and had to have 6 Jaffa cakes to deal with the pain Shock

Gingerbreadlady1 · 05/03/2015 23:28

I have a newly acquired sympathy for obese people. I've never really been over weight, can't believe how tiring it is!

Gingerbreadlady1 · 05/03/2015 23:36

I'm struggling just walking up and down stairs. Putting on shoes, getting up from a low couch is a nightmare! Now with this bloody trapped nerve I'm going to end up gargantuan....

AbsInTheClub · 06/03/2015 00:03

I have a size 8 arse. It's hiding inside my size 16 arse! Grin

Just started reading that thread, I don't actually identify with it yet - have so far had a really breezy ride of pregnancy, and I did last time too.

Snooky17 · 06/03/2015 14:36

Have you tried the raspberry leaf tea before Abs? I've never tried it does it taste like raspberries ? Hate raspberries lol, think you can get it in tablet form tho as well

AbsInTheClub · 06/03/2015 15:14

Yeah, had it last time. Tastes nothing like raspberries to me, just hippy herbal fruit tea, which I'm not a fan of. I like herbal teas, just not fruit teas. I'd rather take tea than a tablet though. It's only for a few weeks.

Snooky17 · 06/03/2015 17:25

Might give it a whirl thanks

AbsInTheClub · 06/03/2015 18:40

I am going to persevere!
Holland and Barrett had it in the Buy One Get One Half Price offer, not sure if it's still running.

Midwife also recommended prunes/dates - can't remember which now - I despise both, and can't bring myself to have them. The raspberry leaf tea is tolerable! Only from 32 weeks they say though.

Snooky17 · 06/03/2015 19:04

Dates ring a bell, off for a Google

AbsInTheClub · 06/03/2015 20:23

I do not know how people coped before the Internet! :)

stubbornstains · 07/03/2015 11:29

I'm 41 today!!! Ancient crone with bump!! ExP has taken DS off for the morning so I can have a lie in- although I can't bloody sleep, bah....

Having some people round tonight- hope I can make it past 10.00pm...

I drank raspberry leaf tea in my last pregnancy. It tastes kind of like raspberries and kind of like leaves to me- funny that Grin.

What did your MW recommend prunes and dates for Abs? Did you mention you're a vegan perchance? I told mine I was a veggie and she nearly wet herself with excitement in producing a little leaflet on Good Sources of Iron for Vegetarians. Next up: Egg Sucking for Grandmothers..Grin.

I'm religiously consuming loads of dried fruit for the Poo Issue- and it does work if I have it every day- I chop some up with some fresh apples/ pears, add water, honey and spices and simmer it, and have some of the resulting compote on top of Greek yogurt for breakfast every day- 'tis lovely!

Happy Birthday Stibborn have a lovely day x

Tranquilitybaby · 07/03/2015 11:36

Stubborn even lol!

Tranquilitybaby · 07/03/2015 11:39

Snooky my best description of raspberry leaf tea is that it tastes like hay. Do you like hay? Grin

Lolababy00 · 07/03/2015 12:03

Happy birthday stubborns I drank raspberry leaf tea last time ... I thought it smelt like raspberries but didn't taste nice at all .... And I don't mind herbal tea ... Won't be drinking it this time Smile

stubbornstains · 07/03/2015 12:08

Cheers for the birthday wishes....really must get out of bed now or maybe not Grin.

Hmm, I've just opened a letter from the GP- they want to discuss the results from the bloods taken at my 28 week appt. "There is no urgency or cause for concern" Hmm.

I think the only thing it could be- that would have changed since my booking in blood test- would be that my iron levels are down a bit. Maybe it is more than pregnancy tiredness then?? That would be a result- just take a course of iron pills and not be so tired!

Cake stubborn - have a fabulous day.

I can't really remember - I zoned out after she said prunes as I just can't stand them. But it was at the time she was talking about helping labour at the end, and recommending raspberry leaf for that, so maybe something about preparing the body, relaxing muscles or strengthening them or something! I'll ask when I see her! She was pure positivity about my diet, and all my bloods have come back great so I've had zero mention of where to get iron/protein/calcium etc! She asked in an interested way how long I'd been vegan for, and I think 15 years impressed her enough to believe I knew by now what I was doing. :)

Tranq, eat hay a lot, do you?!

AbsInTheClub · 07/03/2015 12:16

x-post. stubborn, if it was bad, they'd phone. Probably marginally low or borderline results for iron or something. Why they can't just phone and be clear though, I don't know! Now you have to wait til Monday. Spinach and prunes smoothie for you in the meantime!

Snooky17 · 07/03/2015 14:43

Happy birthday stubborn it's my OH birthday today as well he is also 41. Letter is almost def iron levels had one in my last pregnancy scared the crap out of me, don't get why if it's not serious they just can't say what the problem is.
Hmm I don't think I'm a lover of hay so given my last labour was only 6 hrs I may give the tea a miss.

Gingerbreadlady1 · 07/03/2015 20:19

Happy birthday stubborn hope you're having a great day! Xx

What's the raspberry leaf tea for?

AbsInTheClub · 07/03/2015 21:43

Mixed views on it. I am only having one cup a day.

HexyQueen · 07/03/2015 22:04

Happy birthday stubborn. Hope it's been a fab day xxx

Ginger I've had this trapped nerve playing up to one extent or another for about 3 weeks now. It's doing my fucking nut when it's bad, even breathing is painful. but I can at least take strong co-codamol for it and the consultant ok'd occasional tramadol if it - or my other ailments - get worse. Using the non-medicine Versatis lidocaine patches (topical local anaesthetic only) is helping a bit too & don't have to worry about their effect on the baby. They are great for sciatica too.

Bit the bullet today and bought some gino-pants to go over this enormous bump. Fuck, they need their own postcode! Can't wait to see what size she's going to be at the scan on Tuesday. Or indeed if I'm having a baby hippo!

Very impressed at 15 years a vegan, abs. I've been veggie for 29 years, and periodically flirt with veganism but never last long.

AbsInTheClub · 07/03/2015 22:27

Feeling for you with the trapped nerve, Hexy.

Ah, who cares, as long as you are comfortable. I don't like stuff over my bump, but have bought some bigger normal pants.

Thanks. Dunno, always found it easy, came naturally to me. It's getting easier for everyone else these days, so many more alternatives. I've seen a vast increase in products and availability since I first made the switch.
