SpamAnderson · 01/03/2015 13:02

Hi Ladies and welcome new people.
Pram talk already! Do babies still need to lie on their backs ? I seem to see a lot in car seats stuck in carrier type things but are these advised for long walks/periods?
Wanted to let you all know I had the nuchal test letter back - 1 in 9431 chance of Down's- I think I'll take that! Can finally relax now. Hope everyone starts to feel better soon too. Smile

mrsdos · 01/03/2015 13:15

Spam we have a my3 too! Its from my mum when she had my littlest brother (he is 6 so its not ancient! and i am one of 6 its not just the two of us!) good spot on the pillow, I will be looking for one later Smile

DeladionInch · 01/03/2015 13:39

don't trust any of the high street shops for baby carriers, the staff aren't trained and the selection of supportive ergonomic carriers is abysmal. look up your local sling meet or attachment parent group (or ask on fb selling) for a sling meet nearby. you can hire cheaply and there'll be a far wider range Smile

MyNameIsSuz · 01/03/2015 14:06

Yes definitely deladion, though a few more shops do sell decent ones now. John Lewis stock ergos and jojo maman bebe have manducas, those are both well trusted and ergonomically sound carriers.

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 01/03/2015 14:25

I've got an uppababy vista from DS and will be using it again, just replacing the carrycot mattress - love it and worth every penny!

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 01/03/2015 15:07

Toffee Yes, recommendation is still to lie on their backs. Ok to be in their carriers for a few hours tops, so fine for a quick dash round the supermarket but not any longer.

From what we've seen we're leaning towards the ergo but obviously all theoretical at this stage - DH is a foot taller than me so will need something that fits both of our proportions!

BeautyBoo · 01/03/2015 15:39

Love all the buggy talk! This is my first so I haven't got a clue!! I really like the sound of the John Lewis nursery service, think I might book us an appointment in a couple of months.

I've had a lot of trouble sleeping and bought a big U shaped pillow from Amazon, it's absolutely amazing!! I've slept so well with it the last couple of days and it's much nicer to cuddle up to then DP who is a huge fidgeting radiator!!

BeautyBoo · 01/03/2015 15:45

DP's brothers best friend has just announced his pregnancy at 7 weeks. Nobody knows about ours yet as we wanted to wait until after our scan. They've also said what their boys name will be and it's the same as ours Sad I'm kind of hoping they'll change their minds because I've loved the name forever and it flows really well with the Middle name which has a sentimental reason and our surname!

DeladionInch · 01/03/2015 16:03

I always recommend jl for Ergo purchases! but only if you know what you're looking for as the chances of getting something less supportive and suitable from there is so great Wink

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 01/03/2015 16:05

Ouch Beauty!!! That's a bit awkward - I've had nightmares about my brother and SIL doing the same but she's been mainlining vodka this weekend so unlikely...! I've also become ridiculously obsessed with other expectant friends 'pinching' our names (DH and I talked about this a long time ago and it kind of stuck, partly why I don't want to find out the sex as I'm a bit superstitious about naming babies before their born).

In fairness, it's your BILs best friend, not BIL. Are you that close to them? Might be OK sticking with the name you originally chose?

The only people who know about ours are my best friend (who is OB so knows the drill), other pregnant friend and DHs boss as he got a promotion on Friday and it means us moving house in August (have to wait at least another week to find out about mine)

Whatabout · 01/03/2015 16:05

Beauty it's fine use the name, don't get hung up on these things. And you'll be first. Odd to announce so early, I can't imagine doing that!

I have an ergo, I love it. I'm probably going to borrow a stretchy or ring sling for the early days. The newborn insert for the ergo gets slated.

Sundaysmumisfullofwine · 01/03/2015 16:11

DS will be 23months when this one is born so I'm looking at double buggies at the moment. He is a good walker but will probably want somewhere to nap when we're out and about.

Had an oyster for him first time round, bargain off ebay. Since then have swapped to a Maclaren Mark 2 for short trips and public transport and a Britax B-smart (another ebay bargain) for walks and the like. I love the Maclaren, it's so light!

For doubles am looking at an Oyster Max, Outnabout nipper double or Britax B Dual but open to anything really. Won't be buying new unless I really have to.

Chuch21 · 01/03/2015 16:13

Oh no beauty! If it makes you feel any better my aunts both have sons with the same name... I felt that was a little closely related but it's not a problem so I'm sure you'll be fine!

After much symptom googling (there's some scary stuff out there) I reckon I have a urine infection, do you think I should mention it at ultrasound tomorrow? Call my GP tomorrow? Or so something about it by any means tonight? I really don't know how it could effect the bean

BeautyBoo · 01/03/2015 16:31

We do see them quite a lot at family occasions, etc, but I dont think it would be too much of an issue if we did end up choosing the same names to be honest as there's still a bit of distance between us. It's just a bit awkward as we won't be telling anyone our name choices until baby is born and as they've announced so early, I'm worried it will look like we've copied them!

SpamAnderson · 01/03/2015 16:48

church I would mention it at the scan tomorrow and they'll hopefully test it, just take a sample with you. I've been told to take a sample to my scan as there's a chance I'm developing diabetes so they're going to check it for signs.
beauty buggy and pram shopping is so fun! Try them all! Think about what us a must and what isnt. I love a 3 wheeler as I think they're tonnes easier to manoeuvre, do you do a lot of walking on pavements or on rougher terrain, does it need to fit in the boot, check the size of shopping baskets too, ease of collapse etc.
And with the name, choose the name you love, we're not going to announce names until baby is born, we have our boys and girls name chosen (no boys middle name at the moment though) and we shall stick to it. I think if you chose a different name, you'd regret not choosing the one you love. Even if they spent most days together, it doesn't matter, they'll have different middle and last names, and like someone else saiid, you'll be using it first :D

Boodlymummy · 01/03/2015 16:53

Spam and Becca thanks for the bargain body pillow tip, just ordered mine!

TheMidnightHour · 01/03/2015 16:57

Had my 12 week on Friday at 13+3, dates are spot on still so that's good and little one wriggling away, lovely. DP told FB this afternoon, is reporting likes to me lol. Nice to be out in the open.

Also found out on Friday that I have a job interview next week! Looking for a short-term contract on site to top up before the baby gets here. This would be 3 months work, decent money, interesting job - perfect :) Managed to find a dress in the sale that makes me look like I've been in an office in the last 3 years and plump not pregnant. (Work from home so standard office wear is pjs and last business meeting I had was in a kid's play park, and the client bought me an ice cream cone!)

beauty it's hard, but I would stick with my name, I think. They might change their mind or have a girl, or you might, and it probably doesn't matter anyway, as you say. 2 of my cousins named their kids the same and a 3rd used another cousin's name for hers. It puts my gran in a pickle, as even saying 'you're my favourite great-grandson called Whatsit' isn't specific enough, otherwise not a problem. They're 'little' and 'big' or A's Whatsit and B's Whatsit or, like the rest of us, oi you!

NatalieBee · 01/03/2015 17:35

Church I've managed to get 2 already and i'm only 14 weeks! But urine infection wont effect the little bean they just like to catch them before it spreads to your kidneys or such but that doesn't happen for a good bit, its usually just a few days antibiotics then good as gold :) Just mention at your scan, they may just advise you to go to the GP!

Back on the wards for 5 weeks tomorrow, and last ever practical exam passed for my nursing training! I will be a qualified nurse before the baby comes :o seriously scary!!

14 weeks today woo.

Snowflake15 · 01/03/2015 18:02

Some of you are so far ahead! I'm 10+3, and tomorrow will be 2 weeks til my scan! Can't wait! I have been feeling a lot better since turning 10 weeks, much less nauseous and less exhausted, which is great but of course a double edged sword! Still feeling the reassurance from my early scan though, but can't wait til the next one!

Lovelybitofsquirrel · 01/03/2015 19:03

So many people with Vistas, we love ours! And as ds still only sleeps in the car or buggy in the daytime we've definitely had our money's worth! The basket underneath is amazing too. The only thing I don't like are the foot muffs, I ended up getting a Bugaboo one instead, much nicer.
I've heard the newer models have converters so you can use the carry cot and rumble seat together, going to investigate whether that will work for my 2013 model. Fingers crossed!
Lots of people having scans this week, it's going to get even busier on here!

SpamAnderson · 01/03/2015 19:18

I can't believe it's nearly time for my scan lovely! I predict a tonne of scan pictures this week! Now to work on DH and see how many £4 pictures he'll let me buy ;) We get all different shots here, not just copies :)
The Vista looks lovely but ouchies at the price!
That's great natalie What an achievement :D

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 01/03/2015 19:23

That's the one thing that gives the vista an edge, the possibility of a rumbleseat/buggyboard depending on when any future dcs come along. The icandy doesn't have that, which is annoying.

Car seat wise, I think we're going recaro. Ah the joys of a £1 Which trial! Allows me to indulge in all things baby before I can talk to real people about it!

Scan is a week on tuesday, 11 weeks tomorrow. Very impatient!

Jessica32 · 01/03/2015 19:25

Beauty I'm with everyone who says stick to the name you love! Perhaps after you announce you could have a quiet word with the couple concerned if you trust them to keep quiet? That way at least they're prepared.
