treacle I'm savouring being able to sleep on my back/front as long as possible this time. Don't think it matters at this point as it's not heavy enough to do much, and I was SO FED UP of sleeping on my left side by the end last time.

toffee the advice is no longer than 2 hrs in a car seat as their necks aren't strong enough to hold their airway open in that position apparently. I think so long as you alternate it's fine.

I agree with delation on carriers. Hip issues aside (there's a lot of debate on this that I won't get into), carriers like the bjorn will kill your back after about 6 months. Carried DS in a stretchy wrap until about 8 months when he fit in the ergo which is great, my husband prefers that for days out to the pushchair and carries him easily at 19 minths. I also have a woven wrap and a ring sling, both great.

sundays I've resigned to getting a double too, DS will be 25 months and it's not flat terrain where we live - can't imagine having sling + single buggy as only means of getting out. Looking at mountain buggy duets on eBay as we have the single and love it - tried my sister's Phil and teds when we visited, with her toddler in front, but DS hated being in the back and lifting him in and out of the back was a massive faff.

SpamAnderson · 01/03/2015 19:52

To those thinking about slings... Which have you used, tried or considered getting? I want a sling this time so it'll be easier on dog walks to the woods, beach etc as we can't fit 3 kids, a pram and 2 large dogs in a car the size of a fiesta! My friend had the Baba sling and loved it, I'm thinking it looks good and super easy to use but didnt know if anyone knew of better ones or had tried the baba and had issues? I do have a worry about the slings a I have rather large boobs, could I not smother the baby with them?!

Guavasforbreakfast · 01/03/2015 20:07

spam I was given a babasling as a handmedown and hated it. It hurt my shoulder almost as soon as I put it on and that was when he was tiny. For newborns, lots of friends have raved about the close caboo. I was bought a stretchy wrap which I loved and will use again, but the caboo is better for beginners as it's the same fabric as the stretchy wrap but it's pretied so less faff putting it on.

Then as I mentioned below, the Ergobaby carrier is fantastic for older babies. They say it's fine from 4 months but mine was small and only fitted it comfortably from around 8 months.

Woven wraps and ring slings are lovely, but a steep learning curve so I wouldn't recommend to a beginner.

SpamAnderson · 01/03/2015 20:11

A stretchy wrap? If I google that, will it come up? I suffer with pain in my shoulders and neck if there's too much weight there so that's one thing that did worry me :/ I'll have a look at the close caboo :)

Treaclepie19 · 01/03/2015 20:17

Think I'll have to just give up and sleep on my right if I need to then.
Looks like yesterday was the start of my sickness. Thought I'd got away with it this morning but my dinners come back up.
Hey Ho.

11 weeks today.

Also spam, with a wrap you can spread the fabric across your shoulders, and a lot of the weight is spread across your torso anyway so it shouldn't hurt. Definitely avoid the babasling if you have neck and shoulder pain!

Maths88 · 01/03/2015 20:27

So many posts! I've had an amazing weekend but am so not ready to go back to work tomorrow!!

Flight home was a little scary as plane got hit by lightening but all was well!

Got my appointment at the hospital about bp tomorrow afternoon and scan Wednesday so an exciting baby based week!

Shattered though so off to bed I go - am 1 hour ahead which makes it slightly better!

Guavasforbreakfast · 01/03/2015 20:28

Ooh just occurred to me, I'm pretty sure that shinjuku had a close caboo so can give a more experienced view of it!

Whatabout · 01/03/2015 20:34

Lost my post earlier! I have an ergo and I love it. You can get a newborn insert but I will borrow a moby or caboo instead I think. The vista I will be getting a rumble seat for and a buggy board and a snuggle seat. Wilf will be 29 months when / if this one turns up so I think we will need the rumble but not for long.

Scan in the morning, quite nervous but had a listen this morning and my mobile bean is there with a good heartbeat. My back is agony and not improving. Not quite sure what can be done for me but all being well tomorrow I'm going to ask midwife to refer me to physio. I think I might need to get my crutches out.

MyNameIsSuz · 01/03/2015 20:35

Spam, I had a Moby wrap - you can get them on Amazon. It was great! I'll definitely use it again this time.

Scan tomorrow - EEEK!!! I'm having very mixed feelings, part excitement and part terror that I'll see something I don't want to see.

Jessica32 · 01/03/2015 20:51

Spam I haven't used any as this is my first. Have been told good things about je Porte Mon bebe. I can't give you a link but I've come across 'how to' videos for it too. Perhaps on their own website?

SpamAnderson · 01/03/2015 20:56

Good luck whatabout and suz can't wait to see your scan pics :) couldn't resist getting my doppler out again tonight, found him straight away again, nice strong heartbeat so am feeling positive about Friday's scan now :)

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Victoria-Slinglady-Stretch-Wrap-Sling-baby-carrier-suitable-from-birth-EU-TESTED-/110841129010?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item19cea56832 This is, both figuratively and literally, the one we had. I'll borrow it back from the sling library to start with, don't think a squish will fit my 80cm wide Fidella woven and I'm not sure I'll be able to afford a new sling. Can trade the toddler mei tai for baby buckles though for dp.

Tbh there are many better brands of buckles than Ergo - Manduca, Tula, Boba, Beco, Connects, Lenny Lamb... All easier to use from newborn and either better adjustment to fit older babies or come in sizes to suit.and they're all much much prettier! Slings are like jeans, tbh, what makes my legs look skinny makes my mate's are look humungous :o

mrsdos · 01/03/2015 21:20

Looking forward to seeing more scan pics! Smile
Been doing a spot of shopping this evening, picked up a maternity pillow set (a curved pillow an wedge) for £10 and a Chicco Go Baby Carrier for £14.99 then had a quick look on heavenlybump as they have a sale on too for some clothes for me as I am rapidly outgrowing normal clothes!
Can anyone suggest any reasonably priced places to look for maternity wear?

DeladionInch · 01/03/2015 21:33

chicco is unlikely to be comfortable past 4 months mrsdos although you can use a scarf to make it more supportive. matalan are good, as are h+m

Lovelybitofsquirrel · 01/03/2015 21:39

I bought a second hand Connecta after trying some out at a sling library and borrowing a Connecta for a few weeks. I really like it but still can't get ds on my back on my own.
Lots of people on my other bus had the Caboo and loved it. Tulas have been v popular too as our babies got older but they aren't cheap.

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 01/03/2015 21:41

I'm petite but with a 4-6 'slim/curvy' figure. As I normally have to go up a size to accommodate my bust/bum, I'm quite enjoying filling out the waist on a lot of my clothes! Think I need to get some new bras soon - not looking forward to that as I always get so frustrated when I can't find what I want.

Busy preparing for my second Chartership review (I've been chartered in my job for 4 years but I'm greedy so going for it with another institution). Knackering fitting the prep around a full time job, my original plan was to submit for the October review but that's not a particularly good idea anymore! As there are only 4% women in my industry, the fact that I'm female is unusual in itself so I imagine turning up pregnant will raise a few eyebrows...

mrsdos · 01/03/2015 21:52

Inch thank you for the heads up! Smile I think dh wants to use it mainly - he is 6'5" I am 5'3" on a good day I am happy with the pram but for £15 its worth a try. I will have a look at the shop you've suggested, had a quick look while in town but all the high street shops near me (South Devon) stock the tinest maternity sections Sad
Told my aunty this evening, only for my cousin to post it on facebook! Angry Luckily managed to delete it quickly and my sister did the same when he posted to her too gahhhh!!

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 01/03/2015 22:24

Nice work dos! Why on earth do people do that? Someone once mentioned that it's almost competitive - I knew first so I must be their favourite - which makes a lot of sense. Very poor form though. I would never mention big life events - engagement, pregnancy etc on social media until I had seen that the person in question had already done it.

SpamAnderson · 02/03/2015 06:30

lastnight it is totally a competition thing, people have to make sure EVERYONE else knows that they're the best because they think they knew first. It's like the ones who hear you've given birth and congratulate you on facebook before you've announced it yourself!
mrsdos I had that carrier with dd1 and loved it, I wouldn't recommend it for wearing for very long due to the position of baby's hips and will get heavy on the shoulders, but I used to use it when we were popping into bigger shops or short walks etc :)
Used my body pillow last night, omg the comfort! The comfort! I thought fir the price it would be a bit 'smooshy' with not much in it, but it's pretty firm and as I'm a short-arse (5"3) it is near enough a full body pillow for me :)
TMI but has anyone else totally lost their sex drive?! I'm the 'man' in our relationship normally, it's me who wants it every night if possible (I don't get it mind you as DH is mean!) and I can literally count the amount of times we've DTD since his op in December! 6 times! 5 of those were TTC-ing! Normally that would make me near homicidal but I just can't get in the mood. Even reading my normal dirty books (ok I'm a perve!) does nothing, just not interested. And I'm normally even worse when pregnant :/ it's really weird!

MyNameIsSuz · 02/03/2015 06:52

Arrrrrrrgh! Have spent the weekend dying for a decent lie in but woken up at 6 by a noisy toddler wanting his bottom wiped. This morning I woke up at 5.30 starving and needing a wee, completely unable to sleep. And by some miracle the boy is still snoozing!!! Argh!

Good morning everyone Angry

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 02/03/2015 07:02

No spam no action here either. Was the same last time, I feel too sick and tired in first trimester then when the horny stage hits the bump is there and it weirds DH out so he won't come near me. Sigh.

Jessica32 · 02/03/2015 08:13

Good morning everyone.

I found some good maternity basics online with gap.

Snowflake15 · 02/03/2015 08:46

What an awful morning! Trains were all delayed so were packed, started to feel hot and shaky and faint and was too shy to ask for a seat so crouched on the floor, thank god a lovely man saw and gave me his seat opened a window and spent the rest of the journey keeping an eye on me! Has prompted me to get a badge though, but I'm too embarrassed to wear it! Don't know why I find them so cringe? Also scared of bumping into someone from work with it on!
