Pate is prob the only thing I avoid. Only learnt in this pregnancy that I can have runny eggs if stamped. Not had steak yet but seen as it's a rare treat it will be rare lol. Seafood is ok as long as cooked love prawns. I try and limit coffee to 3 aday if at home this is decaf so I can have a coffee shop coffee every now and then. In this pregnancy I can't drink alcohol or eat chocolate as they both taste wrong. So don't have to worry there.

I really miss pate though. With my ds mum brought me tiger French stick and pate to the hospital to get stick into. It was amazing! Fingers crossed will have a homebirth this time so she can bring them to us. Yummy only another 29wks ish lol

Mummyboo30 · 22/02/2015 09:11

Don't get me started on pate! I stocked up for christmas and was really looking forward to stuffing myself with it, but got my BFP before I'd had any. Gutted.
I'm being pretty good. I'm having runny lion eggs, but sticking with the guidelines the rest of the time. Even cooked myself a well done steak the other week. Boo!

DeladionInch · 22/02/2015 09:19

my mW said pasteurised pate once a week is fine. ditto cheeses. supermarket type stuff is ok, French backstreet market stuff not so much Wink

Whatabout · 22/02/2015 09:24

The issue with pate is vitamin a contact and listeria, I always wondered how much you could eat in terms of vutamin a.

With steak there is no toxoplasmosis in uk beef so I'm happy to eat it rare. I wouldn't eat lamb or pork (gross!) rare as those are more likely.

SpamAnderson · 22/02/2015 09:26

Yippee, weighed this morning, sure I'd gained but I've lost another lb :D 12 lbs lost since my BFP on New Years day :D

shinjuku09 · 22/02/2015 11:11

So sorry weareboats. Do hope you're ok.

I'm fairly strict with the food thing as any amount of the wrong food can be harmful whereas with caffeine and alcohol I'm happy to have very small amounts (if I can face them later on) as haven't read any convincing evidence tiny amount are bad. It's a personal decision about what level of risk you're willing to take having read up on It IMO. Really would kill for some pate though.

shinjuku09 · 22/02/2015 11:14

Oh also I once read that packaged sandwiches and fruit has a higher listeria risk than the foods the NHS lists as being bad. Maybe they don't bother mentioning that as they know it's hard to avoid them. Needless to say I still eat fruit and packaged sandwiches - hypocritical I know considering my last statement!

Chuch21 · 22/02/2015 11:22

I'm indulging in cooked prawns as I adore them but I'm pretty lucky that most of the foods we can't eat I don't love anyway... I only eat scrambled eggs and despise cheese and pate anyway! The smell of coffee makes me want to spew now despite being addicted pre pg!
Am I the only one whose midwife has said I can't eat peanuts?! DF has a family full of allergies so I've been told to stay away; would kill for some peanut butter!

Also I have reached alcohol avoidance level expert! Went to a friends engagement party where I was expected to "get on it" as I'm a bridesmaid, carried a half full glass of prosecco around all night with occasional glasses of 'vodka' lemonade... Even did a tequila shot with the bride and subtly poured it into my lemonade glass which I then lost in the loo.

DefinitelyNotElsa · 22/02/2015 12:01

I've pretty much been following the rules to the letter. At the moment it doesn't feel like too much of a hardship, but I've already warned DH that I will most definitely still be eating steak medium-rare (which for me is a compromise, I'm a rare girl all the way) and will be indulging in one glass of something bubbly to celebrate our holiday at Easter. DH is less than impressed - he'd have me wrapped up in cotton wool if he could!

DeladionInch · 22/02/2015 12:19

I'm currently scoffing salted peanuts in an effort to get my bp up, been feeling woozy all morning any tips? Sad wouldn't risk it with allergies in the family though, sorry.

At this stage they're doing a lot of developing. Once we hit later 2nd and into the 3rd trimester all baby does is get bigger, so the odd glass of wine etc isn't a huge deal (although obviously hitting it hard and getting the foetus pissed is still a bad idea)

MyNameIsSuz · 22/02/2015 12:37

I'm feeling woozy too Deladion, just today and yesterday. It's really bad, I've taken myself to bed! Not sure why I'm so lightheaded, but it's coinciding with tender stomach so maybe I'm growing. It's horrible though!

NatalieBee · 22/02/2015 12:39

Dealdion When any of my patients have a low Bp I always say the same thing, water water water! A lot of the time the main issue with a low Bp is dehydration and in pregnancy you need even more than usual :) worth a try!

13 weeks today! Woooo!! Smile

DeladionInch · 22/02/2015 12:40

Taking my 2yo to soft play late might help lol

SpamAnderson · 22/02/2015 13:40

deladion I have been suffering with low by, I've been drinking gallons, eating lots of salt and find days I'm particularly stressed are the days I feel best as my bp goes up!
Just been to the city and nipped in mamas & papas, it's their last day today and got 2 pairs of lovely jeans for £7 each :) stopped in Costa for a lovely decaf latte too :) bought some bottles in sainsburys too as the ones we use were less than half price so bought a couple of boxes! Hope I'm not tempting fate but it's such a good offer I couldn't resist!

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 22/02/2015 13:57

Oh I've been eating runny eggs! Sunday isn't Sunday without eggs Benedict (all my eggs are lion stamped). Is seafood supposed to be one to avoid?

Finding pate/cheese/liver a struggle. Haven't got round to sticking Parma in the freezer yet though. I have some beautiful truffle salami from Tuscany that I might slice and freeze...needs to be eaten by April!

10 weeks tomorrow and a fortnight until my scan. Everything crossed! Going to call the doctor tomorrow and find out why they were calling me.

NatalieBee · 22/02/2015 14:20

I may or may not have just booked a private gender scan on Sunday the 15th of march Blush My hubby has got me it for mothers day for something special Smile eeeep. I cannot wait!

ag123 · 22/02/2015 15:08

Hmm...feeling a little emotional :-( Told DH I'm feeling stressed as can't find hb with Doppler and just generally scared in the run up to 12 week scan on Tuesday. He's basically said it's really unfair of me to share that with him as now he feels stressed too, and since there is no reason behind it I should keep it to myself. :-s He has been very stressed and busy at work (like 3 2am finishes last week) so maybe it was unfair of me and he said he was really excited about Tuesday and now he's just worried. Can't really decide if he's being unreasonable though...isn't that part of a partnership-sharing anxieties (he says not if unfounded!) ???

Chuch21 · 22/02/2015 15:36

ag123 I had a massive row with my OH last night as we were at an event together and be left to go out with another of his mates... Usually I wouldn't mind but I needed him for backup and no one else there knows.
Anyway we ended the night with a realllyyyy long talk about how I'm not feeling myself, I'm constantly focused on the pg and worried that because everyone else is excited I would be letting them down if something went wrong. What it comes down to is (I think) the lovely if occasionally insensitive men in our lives can occasionally switch off from the stress of it all (they don't have ms, cramps, or a baby in them) whereas we can't, it's constant and exhausting, they think we always focus on it, negatively or otherwise, because we're constantly reminded! And at the moment they're the only people we can talk to about it!
It's a really straining time but I would have done the same in your situation, keeping it inside would lead to a mini explosion like mine last night!
That's my two cents anyway. I hope you get it all sorted out and Fx for Tuesday Smile

SpamAnderson · 22/02/2015 17:11

Awww natalie my DH wants to book me one for Mother's Day. Would be a couple of weeks after Mother's Day before I'm 16 weeks but will be something to look forward too :)
ag sorry but he is being unreasonable imo. I would give mine a slap for a comment like that! This is their thing too, my DH knows every second of this pregnancy, they don't get to just do their bit and ignore it for the next 9 months. His job is to support you. He may think you're being oversensitive (I don't btw!) but it's his job as the daddy and your partner to help you and support you through it. It's a stressful and tough time being pregnant, the symptoms, the worry and stress, he helped make the baby (and as I tell DH 'YOU did this to meeee!!') he has to deal with the difficult stuff as well as enjoying the good stuff! How would he feel if you told him he couldn't come to scans? He couldn't be there at the birth etc?

Jessica32 · 22/02/2015 17:21

Lastnight seafood is ok as long as it's cooked (so no raw oysters) or has been frozen, which shop bought sushi has been.

I had rare beef a week ago, yum! I would not have a well done steak, I'd rather choose something else.
I'm having one cup of tea a day but I think 2 is supposed to be fine. I have not been drinking alcohol but may well have the odd glass later in the pregnancy if I fancy it. Normally love a good white wine but hasn't been difficult to resist since getting pregnant as I've felt too ill.

On our beloved men, mine has mostly been great and caring and supportive of the physical symptoms. I haven't felt too worried emotionally until the last couple of days. He has tried to reassure and would never say I shouldn't share, however he definitely doesn't understand why I worry. I agree with everything Church said, they can switch off more.

LittleSesameSeed · 22/02/2015 18:09

I did find that until my dh saw our dd at the 12 week scan he couldn't really understand all the symptoms as they can't see anything- same thing this time- I'm still expected to get on with everything as I did before including everything for my dd! Hoping after the scan he will remember why I'm feeling so rubbish!
Also Is anyone else thirsty all of the time? I've completely gone off of most drinks and am literally only able to stomach water.. I must be drinking litres every day! Is this normal? X

Becca83 · 22/02/2015 18:11

Just had a private scan at 8+6, everything looked great! Little heart beating away and measuring exactly as i had dated. Feels so real now and hopefully i can relax a bit more whilst I wait for the 12 week scan. Pictures are on a disk, but I'll upload when I'm on the computer.

Hope everyone is doing well xx

DeladionInch · 22/02/2015 18:21

Best to have these conversations now than getting the arse when they don't pitch in when you're 4 days post partum and therefore bleeding like a stuck pig, loopy from the hormones because your milk is coming in (that's true for bottle feeders too BTW), still look 6 months gone due to stretched skin, haven't slept longer than 3 hours in a couple of months and haven't washed for a week. The first poo feels like birthing your baby's twin and peeing is a line of fire down your stitches. And your partner thinks you should have dinner on the table in a clean, tidy house...

Whatabout · 22/02/2015 18:34

Inch all so true! Sorry first timers!

sauvblanc21 · 22/02/2015 18:43

First timer's Q here....For all those who have had a First Trimester Combined Screening for DS...am I right in thinking one half of test is measurement from scan and the other half is blood test?
If so, when do you get the results of both? On the day or several days later?
(Just wondering if you're safe to tell people about preggo as soon as you have 12 week scan or need to wait for test results?)
Thanks laydees xxx
