I had my bloods on the 10th and scan on the 20th and the sonographer gave me my results there are then. I had expected to have to wait. I think it probably depends on your hospital though.

DeladionInch · 22/02/2015 18:54

Yep, I'm sorry too but it's a bit late to feed the fantasy of wafting round a pure white nursery in skin tight beige trousers

Wink
Whatabout · 22/02/2015 18:55

Here they take bloods and do measurement on same day and then odds come back in a week. I guess it depends on how you would deal with the results whether you choose to wait. It isn't a yes / no result. I will blab if all good after I've told my boss after my scan.

I was reading my 22 month old a bed time story and was trying not to throw up. Weirdly I had a real sense I was reading to two people not one.

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 22/02/2015 19:02

Grin deladioninch

funny second time around I'm looking forward to labour and dreading the first 6 weeks

sauvblanc21 · 22/02/2015 19:03

Thanks all. Yes what I agree, think I'd blab after scan if all ok at scan. (Telling boss tomo at 9+1 as will need to book cover for scan date and worried I might puke whilst teaching a class anyway!)

Hubbo cooked delish sausages and mash, I managed a teeny bit and now sitting with bowl on lap hoping I won't see it again. Booo. Xx

DeladionInch · 22/02/2015 19:06

Think I worried my mW last time. When asked which bit of labour I was worried about I said I wasn't - but parenting terrified me!

My birth plan was: go to hospital, have medical intervention as necessary, skin to skin with both parents asap, dp to remain with Ds if we needed to be separated, breastfeeding.

Will be the same this time!

Whatabout · 22/02/2015 19:20

I planned a home birth but never wrote a birth plan. I didn't want it held against me whilst in labour "it says here you want no painkillers and silence, so no you can't have an epidural". I loved my epidural.

NatalieBee · 22/02/2015 19:37

deladion As a first time mum I can safely say I am horrified..I am not looking forward to bathroom breaks post birth lol!!

Sundaysmumisfullofwine · 22/02/2015 19:56

My birth plan last time was "get baby out safely by whatever means necessary, and offer me whatever drugs/pain management is available". Ended up with a crash section under general anaesthetic after 9 hours in labour.
This time it will be "I want a section."

DeladionInch · 22/02/2015 19:56

Lean forward and wet the loo roll then dab NOT wipe for a wee. Make sure your first visitors bring fresh fruit. I have never loved my mum more than for the pack of mixed melon/pineapple/grapes she brought in along with clothes that would actually fit my 6lb dinky dot!

It's not glamorous. But it's also a very short lived phase. If you plan to breastfeed, you'll spend a lot of time on the sofa with Jeremy kyle et all; nature's way of making you rest and heal.

All this coming from someone who missed the first HV visit because I'd put Ds in the sling and gone out for coffee Hmm

DeladionInch · 22/02/2015 19:57

I got as far as pethidine in my 34 hours got dehydrated and no fucker noticed he was stuck behind a full bladder

Tiredstressed · 22/02/2015 20:03

Ah, this is bringing the delights of labour back to me! I didn't bother with a birth plan - ended up with forceps. By that time I was so knackered, I didn't care. I had been in labour for nigh on 48 hours and had been sick lots so was dehydrated. It can have been that bad - she is only 11 months and here we are again!

Tiredstressed · 22/02/2015 20:04

Can't have been that bad, even!

DeladionInch · 22/02/2015 20:20

when I was in the depths of bf hell I calculated that I would be doing it for approximately 1.5% of my life. not that big a sacrifice in the grand scheme of things really

monkeymoonpig · 22/02/2015 20:22

I was induced with DS, very unhelpful midwife on nightshift gave me the "its braxton hicks" bollocks when it was contractions. Labour was fine, 2 wonderful midwives, pain all in back but managed with gas and air and pethadine at end (kicked in after birth typically) will try for thay again. I have a massive fear of epidural so really hoping dont need one this time either. OH loves telling the story of how, whilst legs akimbo being stitched someone opened door to talk to mw, i apparently turned round and said rather loud "I WISH SHE WOULD SHUT THAT F**KING DOOR". It worked - she shut the door! Lol! Pethadine had kicked in then so i dont remember

Kittykitty05 · 22/02/2015 21:08

Told kids the news today. To say dd is thrilled is an understatement, she's not left my side since, keeps rubbing my tum and saying 'I love you baby'. Ds is impressed too. Given that they are now bursting with excitement I'd give it a matter of hours before the world knows now!

With the downs testing, I've been told my mw will give results at my 16 week appointment, not that the results would change a thing!

Treaclepie19 · 22/02/2015 22:34

As a first time mom I'm putting my fingers in my ears and saying lalalalalala at all the birth talk.
Scared stiff!

monkeymoonpig · 22/02/2015 22:53

treacle don't worry, its really not that bad..... wouldn't be doing it again if it was!

Treaclepie19 · 22/02/2015 22:59

Haha that's true... :)

Has anyone tried hypnobirthing?

OP posts:
Mummyboo30 · 22/02/2015 23:13

Treacle scratch that, it is awful and horrible (at least mine was) but nature helps you forget so you can cope with doing it again! ;)

monkeymoonpig · 22/02/2015 23:20

Well dont get me wrong, it hurt - a lot. And the bleeding etc after isnt the greatest! But you get thru it and i honestly dont remember it being horrific, sure my OH would question having another if he thought it was that bad. Tho the hardest bit for him was making sure i could have a drink whenever i wanted one! I even suggested he stopped at McD's on way to hospital as it would take a while and i didnt want him to be hungry haha Grin

Hare5260 · 23/02/2015 03:18

Treacle I start a hypnobirthing course in July, heard good things about it... Definitely an option for me. Drugs are also an option for me lol, will see how it goes...

MyNameIsSuz · 23/02/2015 06:36

I'm with monkey, I had a nice birth! Just gas and air, only 4 hours once I got to the midwife unit, and it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I think the thing about birth stories is that you tend to only hear/notice the scary ones, people like me who have lovely births tend to keep quiet for fear of sounding like smug bitches.

I think mine was a mixture of luck, a relatively small baby, coming on his due date rather than two weeks later, and having done lots of yoga and belly dancing throughout - the former gave me great positions to use and the latter strong core muscles. But luck was the biggest factor!

So first timers, don't worry. It can be lovely, but there's only so much you can do. Just prepare as well as you can but keep an open mind and don't stress it too much, if you have a rubbish time that's what the drugs are for. It clearly hasn't put off a lot of the second-timers on this thread!

DoctorDonnaNoble · 23/02/2015 06:48

Just got dressed . Think people are going to start guessing at work. Feel rotten today. Ate an Indian takeaway yesterday which left me with a VERY grumbly stomach all night and a little loose. Hmm

Maths88 · 23/02/2015 07:10

Treacle I'm with you birth terrifies me! But I look at all the people with more than one child and think it must be ok in the end!

Got my half term now and am at the airport to meet my sister who is visiting for a few days - got a scan this afternoon because of midwife not finding heartbeat on Thursday - I know it probably seems crazy but I'm an anxious person at the best of times!
