I have a scan booked for 17th March when I will be 7 and a bit weeks, it feels ages away, especially as so many of you seem so far ahead.

The drinking excuse thing is so hard. I had drinks on Friday night and ended up telling, it was only my Mum, best friend and godmother though. I had asked the bar to serve me virgin cocktails (this could be an option for you?) but they sussed me immediately as I normally only drink wine.

Could you say you're on a diet and trying not to drink your calories? Detoxing? Have had a bad tummy and doctor suggested cutting out alcohol and caffeine for a month to see if it helps?

Steph2310 · 23/02/2015 13:13

Hi I'd like to join :)

I'm 28 and this is my first, got my bfp a week ago and from the due date calculator am due on 23rd Oct.

Have had some spotting so nervous to tell anyone in case all goes wrong- got dr apt today at 4.30 - hopefully all is ok :s

Steph2310 · 23/02/2015 13:31

Hi Batfish

I'm also struggling for excuses for wine and coffee - it's normal for me to have a glass of wine on a night out and I live on coffee - was thinking if I gave alcohol and caffeine up for lent that might get me through til nearly 12 weeks when can just tell the truth? Is that too obvious? I've got a work trip to the US coming up with four colleagues and I'm worried I'll get busted then if I don't have a good reason for not drinking!

Cineraria · 23/02/2015 13:54

Congratulations Steph! Good luck at the GP today.

I told everyone I had been having real trouble with insomnia for the last few months (dropping off ok but then waking in the early hours and not going back to sleep) and had been told by the GP to cut out alcohol and caffeine completely for a couple of months and everyone seemed to believe this, especially as I noted down all their helpful hints for getting back to sleep when I wake in the night!

If you don't mind using another kind of medicine as an excuse, some antihistamines, the drowsy kind like Piriton, say you should avoid alcohol, so maybe you could comment that your spring hay fever seems to have started early this year or that you have an allergic rash.

Theboxtrollsareallowed · 23/02/2015 15:39

Twinkle - sorry for the late reply - my scan is at the FMC in London.

Hope everyone is having a good day -

kezod · 23/02/2015 15:45

Hi Ladies, I'm 5+4 today and not really having many symptoms, apart from fatigue, but that could just be because I'm trying to write a 6000 word essay that really doesn't want to be written!

Since finding out my news I'm finding it so hard to concentrate! I'm just too excited and reading about pregnancy things (instead of essay things!)

I have my GP app tomorrow so hopefully it will all start to feel more real then too!
Ginger I've downloaded the Ovia app to, think I like it the best.

kezod · 23/02/2015 15:50

I agree with the alcohol thing, its so hard. I have a friends 30 coming up in two weeks and I don't think I'll convince her at all (as were usually big drinkers when we get together every few months!).
I think I'll probably end up just spilling the beans...

gingerbreadmam · 23/02/2015 15:53

i like it, keep adding baby names to it just to keep me excited when i take a look plus its somewhere handy to record them all Grin

i had another app before which was good too but i like ovia. enjoy seeing size of baby and what parts are developing.

gaggiagirl · 23/02/2015 15:58

Afternoon ladies!
Is anyone else finding sex a bit sore? We DTD last night and my cervix felt very low. I'm presuming this is normal...but still....ouch.

AngusAndElspethsThistleWhistle · 23/02/2015 16:44

Stealth boast, gaggiagirl? Grin

Not much of that sort happening here. I'm too exhausted!

Toast85 · 23/02/2015 17:20

Ga my DH is too nervous to dtd! It's been 23 days...

gingerbreadmam · 23/02/2015 17:47

MrsEvansAlmost · 23/02/2015 18:08

we DTD at 6 weeks and my god I was in pain! I thought I was going to die! I threw up on dp whilst still on him sorry tmi I literally couldn't stop it happening poor dp was going to call an ambulance rather than clean the vomit off himself!! he's only just started wanting to DTD again he vowed it would be 9 months of nothing and then only for birthdays/anniversary or Christmas!!!

gingerbreadmam · 23/02/2015 19:18

just been to mils having a normal conversation when dp comes out with gingerbread mam is pregnant. just like that. so random it actually sounded like a joke. i dead legged him and am now feeling embarassed and mortified incase mil took it as in i didnt want her to know which isnt the case at all just would have liked a word of warning first lol!

in other news i have somehow persuaded my own dm to order gingerbreadbaby a snowman suit and matching booties and a reindeer suit and matching booties in the next clearance sale. cannot wait to collect them tomo.

my friend told me a little embarassing secret from when she was pg with her last dc, she used to hold the baby clothes in her arms like and actual baby and parade around. think thatll be me tomo Grin

GeorgieWilson · 23/02/2015 19:18

Hi everyone, haven't posted on this thread yet but just done a catch up of all the posts. Anna where was your scan for £55. I'm North west too but can only find babybond ones for £99.

gaggiagirl · 23/02/2015 19:23

mrsevans poor you! Oof that would put me off shagging for a long time.
Give it a few more weeks and we will probably be on a sex drought too!.

North east here and all I can find are the £99 babybond scans.

gingerbreadmam · 23/02/2015 19:32

im north east too, wont be having one but had a quick google other day and for early scans could only find 99 ones too.

martinsgirl · 23/02/2015 19:34

I hope that fruit and veg thing isn't true - they have been making me feel more sick. Carbs all the way for me at the moment!!

I have a party in a couple of weeks and I'm planning just to get small glasses of Coke or lemonade so people will just assume I'm drinking spirits. I think if I said I was on antibiotics or something then people would automatically think "pregnant!" My friend did just invite me to a wine tasting for her birthday, bit awkward haha.

gingerbreadmam · 23/02/2015 19:54

it wont make u anymore likely to mc thats for sure. its probs because some fruit and veg is high in folate which is basically folic acid.

im sure satsumas r good for sickness if u wanted to and u can manage them.

the drinking thing is a nightmare luckiky i dont go out often anymore but it is my best friends 30th coming up and it might be on the cards.

SecretlyobsessedbyLego · 23/02/2015 20:22

I've got a hen do meal and drinks in a few weeks which they're doing preorders for now. Going to have to play along and pre order but cancel last minute in the afternoon and my excuse will be that I have a dodgy tummy. Nobody will question someone who says they have the shits....or at least I wouldn't!

crazypuglady · 23/02/2015 20:49

You're right that no one questions the shits secretly always a good one for pulling a sickie at work not that I do that obviously Hmm

I didn't know that about the fruit and veg. I'm quite a healthy eater but I'm going carb crazy at the mo. I've been taking fruit to work as there's no snacks there so if that's all I've got that's all I can have.

Got the call from the MW today. Booking app is 5/3 when I'll be 8 weeks exactly according to LMP. She sounded like a nice woman too Smile

Has anyone seen this: www.cuh.org.uk/rosie-links-leaflets/department-health-pregnancy-book ? My friend who is a midwife recommended it. I found it quite informative.

SecretlyobsessedbyLego · 23/02/2015 20:51

I had that book with my first and then they gave me the baby/toddler one. I stupidly binned the pregnancy one and now they don't give them out anymore. Good resource Smile

Fizzy13 · 23/02/2015 21:06

Crazy I'm with you on the carbs, nothing else will do!

New bra today! Having been an A all my life its odd needing a C at 8 weeks. I'm going to over balance by the time I'm feeding!

alien11 · 23/02/2015 21:09

fizzy that scares me as I desperately needed a new bra a couple of weeks ago but now no need as I'm back to normal size :/

That with no other symptoms except bfp & no AF doesn't bode well

crazypuglady · 23/02/2015 21:29

alien everyone is different. I was talking to a lady at work today and she said when she was pregnant she had no symptoms aside from the fact she went off chicken and sausages Confused

My boobs are huge. I must have gone up at least a cup size and I was a DD anyway Hmm I haven't ordered any new bras yet in the hope they go down. They're also super sensitive. I had to shield them from the shower yesterday!
