I had heard this, but at my pre-op in Jan they told me to use hair-removal cream. I said that this would definitely leave me with raw skin so they said to use a razor but to be careful! Is it to do with the hair re-growing back into the wound or something? Erk!

babysquidge123 · 03/02/2015 05:15

Finally got a few mins to write my birth story so here goes (warning tmi but this may help with mucus plug/early labour Qs)...

Last Sun (36w2d), we went to hospital as I hadn't felt bump move properly in nearly 2 days and was really worried. Trace showed all was fine and we went home but no improvement by Tues so went back in and Trace was alright and scan showed the placenta was still working but midwife said to be even more vigilant about movement as the scan and trace barely show a glimpse of what's happening in there.
On Weds bump was back to wriggling normally and constantly so I was over the moon, happy he was all fine.

Then on Thurs night about 10pm, I had this horrible constant lower back pain that felt like really bad trapped wind/period pain, so I had a bath at 1am and tried to sleep on the floor/leaning on the bed or sofa/in a chair but not successfully! It never stopped, paracetamol didn't help it but it didn't get any worse either. By midday on Fri (37w) the pain was still there and I realised bump hadn't moved since the day before so went into hospital and they admitted me and said they'd induce on Sat as were worried something wasn't right and thought I had a kidney infection.

On Sat morning (37w 1d) I had a show/mucus plug... TMI warning... it was like blood mixed with bits of cream coloured thick yoghurt and that pretty much kept coming all day long. By the time they induced me at 5pm, I was 2cm dilated, still having the pain from before and mucus-y show and dr induced me with the gel. Immediately the pain intensified and at 9pm my waters broke with a loud (and painful!) pop and I was 4cm. Then pains got so much worse but as I was still on the ward I couldn't have any pain relief yet! Sad by 10pm (an hour later) I was fully dilated at 10cm and ready to push!

Finally got gas & air in delivery room and delivered baby boy just after midnight. Cannot believe I got to 10cm with no pain meds!!

Dr said in hindsight, the pains had been early labour and something must not have been right as baby wanted out before I was even induced but he is happy and healthy and asleep on my chest... couldn't be happier Grin

Just realised how long thay was... golly I can talk when i get the chance!

Can't remember, do we have a postnatal thread yet?

blankfornames · 03/02/2015 06:17

amazing! Well done Squidge!!

Mimosa1 · 03/02/2015 06:26

Morning to the fellow early birds. I just can't seem to sleep properly 2 nights in a row at the moment. Oh well, good practice for the baby! Have any of you had your mothers to stay for a few days during your partners' paternity leaves? DH wants it to be just us for those 2 weeks and have her come after. I'm torn and don't know what to expect as a ftm.
(DH and my dm do get on, it's just that he doesn't want anyone to stay and as dm lives abroad, it's not feasible to have her stay elsewhere)

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 03/02/2015 06:45

postit I was told it was to do with a risk of hair growing into wound and also micro abrasions on the skin, caused by hair removal, harbouring bacteria.

mim my mom stayed for 2 weeks at the end of last pregnancy - I was 8days overdue, so she was only around for 2days-ish postnatally. It was lovely having her around during that last bit of pregnancy. Also despite my assertations prior to labour that I only wanted DH there, when it came to it I really really wanted my mom too. So it was good she was readily available. Postnatally my mom was fantastic - it was like she wasn't here unless we asked for help. I'm also lucky that DH sees my mom as more of a mother to him than his own mom and gets on fabulously with her. I'm not sure what I'd have done if DH hadn't wanted her around.

Bangonthedoor · 03/02/2015 06:46

Thanks for sharing babysquidge, it's lovely to hear!

Well I didn't sleep all night but definitely had more sleep last night than I have in the past 2 weeks! Feeling a bit better cold wise this morning too, although still very snotty!

I've got my 40 week midwife appointment this morning at 11am, planning on walking there and back to get some good exercise.

PeppermintInfusion · 03/02/2015 07:09

ECV day today! It's also my first day of mat leave! I wasn't meant to finish until Friday but after last week's fall, the ECV and no sleep I decided to use some leave this week. So glad I did, as I'm absolutely exhausted now and the anticipation of the ECV/ELCS is giving me crazy dreams!

blankfornames · 03/02/2015 07:35

Eeeeeshk..best of luck Peppermint!!!

Bangonthedoor · 03/02/2015 07:37

Good luck today peppermint! Let us know how you get on with the ECV

Minichuch · 03/02/2015 07:53

Finger crossed peppermint - I've got my presentation scan later this morning so I may be in same boat

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 03/02/2015 08:01

peppermint good luck

GeekyHybrid · 03/02/2015 08:08

Good luck peppermint and thanks for the birth story squidge. Carpet arrives for the nursery today so should get all the furniture and stuff sorted in there later today. 40w mw appointment tomorrow, same as you bang, I'm planning to walk there to see if can't get things moving. May also book myself in for cups of tea with friends on the way back to throw in some sod's law element Wink

Hope all goes well peppermint will be thinking of you!

Squidge they took my gas and air off me as they said by not getting it at 10cm it wouldn't do anything. well done , lovely birth story Smile now baby cuddles can begin....its my new favourite hobby Grin

Day 3 here with no hot water, looks like we will need a new boiler so have no clue how long we will be without water, its also snowing here so driving to mums to bath boys may be out the question later.

Having a bit of a wobble, dh goes back to work on Friday, I have no idea how I will get out the house with 3 of us dressed. Ds1 is taking an age to get dressed in the morning hoping it is him dawdling for his dad

sandulacek · 03/02/2015 08:56

Good luck peppermint & thanks for the story baby

sleeping hasn't been great for a long time but now with added hip pain which forces me to turn. Also the big bump makes it more difficult.

First snow where we are!

sandulacek · 03/02/2015 09:00

mimosa my mum's coming from abroad too. I have elcs so DH has 2 weeks of the paternity leave, 5 days on my own and then she arrives. I wanted us to be on our own to get on with it, it's our first.

JacktheLab · 03/02/2015 09:44

Morning all,

good luck to all you who sound like the babies are coming soon!

We've been having a couple of days of very sleepy baby, was getting a bit worried, but it turns out we have been dressing her too warmly and she's not been waking up properly, so I stripped her down to her nappy and we've been eating so much better ;)

Disturbed nights are starting to hit though, I was up at quarter to five watching tv whilst husband slept and then he got up and I went back to bed for another wee sleep, it will be a bit difficult when DH goes back to work, but we shall be fine I'm sure!!

Ticktick · 03/02/2015 10:40

Morning all, just been for my 38w check up. All fine but baby isn't engaged at all and its left me feeling a bit disheartened... Is baby's head engaging a precursor to labour or could labour start then baby engage as it all kicks off???

Memphisbelly · 03/02/2015 11:00

Jack glad she is feeding better now, baby is finally feeding a bit better here too but he seems skinnier again to me, I have hv tomorrow and mw day after sure they will tell me.

Tick tock don't worry about not being engaged some babies never engage, ds2 popped in and out in last 4 weeks and wasn't engaged on day I had him.

Bangonthedoor · 03/02/2015 11:45

Glad things are going well for you both memphis and jack Smile

Ugh just got back from midwife appointment. High blood pressure and protein in my wee so she's taken bloods and will only call me tomorrow if there's a problem. She asked about headaches and nausea which I've been experiencing quite a bit of but I just put that down to having a cold?

DD really sobbed when I left her at nursery this morning and after seeing the midwife I'm feeling pretty down in the dumps.

Ticktick · 03/02/2015 12:22

Thanks memphis, I'm still on baby watch then! Really would rather baby came sooner than later. The bit knowing when its going to happen is super annoying!

Grinningcat · 03/02/2015 12:39

Good luck peppermint. Let's us know how it goes. I have my ECV tomorrow afternoon, but staying calm so far. Wondering if I should pop into the midwives drop in session this afternoon though to talk it over as I only spoke to a consultant about it.

BanglesSpangles · 03/02/2015 12:45

Morning all
thanks for the story squidge- must say, i really like hearing all the detail and every story's different so i feel like I'm building up a bit of a bank of the possibilities!

Good luck for today peppermint

Memphis- lack of boiler sounds like a nightmare- hope our gets sorted soon

Tick- i don't think it means much- my friend said she only engaged at all when her waters broke for both of her babies

I'm a total convert to being a lady of leisure- just been for a very long winded manicure and pedicure (had to ruin or half way through to put more money on the car park) and now lunch in costas. Probably won't have time to do any cleaning or go to tescos now- shame that!

Honeybird · 03/02/2015 12:49

Good luck peppermint and thanks for the birth story squidge I love hearing the details!

I feel totally patronised by the junior doctor who saw me this morning, which is ironic as he didn't have a clue. Luckily it was just a check really, I didn't have any proper questions or concerns. His opening gambit was 'so, do you know why you're here today?'. I assume he wanted the answer 'previous cesarean makes me high risk' but if I'd been quicker on my feet it would have been 'to see a SENIOR obstetrician'.

GeekyHybrid · 03/02/2015 13:24

I don't think it makes much difference tick, mine's been engaged for 2 weeks but still no sign. Hmph. Bang that is a bit of a downer, I'd use that as an excuse for cuppa, choccy biscuits and a relaxing bath to cheer me up before collecting your DD from nursery Flowers Cake Brew

Eventful morning here. You know when the carpet people phone to book delivery and fitting. And they say it will be the afternoon and the fitter will call when he's on his way. And so at 10am whilst you're still fannying about doing little jobs like screwing in plug sockets, cleaning them, putting new catch on doors etc.. and then there's a knock at the door and it's the fitter! So mad dash to get the last bit of furniture out, final vacuum etc.. Another hmph. Hey ho, it does mean that we've got more time this afternoon to put furniture back in and sort everything out.
