For me going into labour has been very gradual, almost a continuous thing from start of pregnancy! BH just very gradually get more frequent, stronger, painful and regular. When you want to scream you can probably say you're in labour. Early labour, with ample time to call/go to hospital, in my case.

tweety89 · 02/02/2015 11:43

Morning All and welcome to the late comers/lurkers. :)

frenetic I hope your SPD doesn't get worse.
bang I'm sleeping between 2am and 6.30am for some reason, so different type of insomnia, same amount of sleep! Now that we need it...

Nesting...well...yesterday I decided to sort out the cupboard with all our manuals, brochures, guarantees, cooking books and light bulbs (cannot believe the amount of stuff I had to recycle) and I even put tags and folders (!). The only thing I didn't do was sorting them out alphabetically...(should I do that? Hmm Hmm Hmm)
DP is working from home today, cannot really do any hoovering, dusting etc. (lucky for me!), so I'm watching series on my laptop. I wish I could sit on the sofa, but my belly and my SPD are not helping so sitting on a living room chair kind of helps.

Morning all and welcome newbies and lurkers. The more the merrier!

So, last day in work was Friday and it was crazy busy and hectic. I had a lovely cake and flowers from my co-workers which I totally wasn't expecting as I had a pre-leaving meal out and presents on the Wednesday! My boss was away on fri so I was flapping about getting all my hand over notes sorted but ran out of time and just had to leave. I hate leaving my stuff in other people's hands... I can be a bit control freaky like that. So I said my good byes, walked out the door and promptly burst into floods of tears! It was an emotional day.

Now here I am, day 1 of mat leave, posting from my bed! I stayed in to snooze after DH left for work and havnt moved yet. Seems like I might adapt to mat leave better than anticipated, lol Grin

Top tip for those with the burning beast - heart burn. I've discovered frjj (sp ??) milkshakes this weekend. They are so thick and creamy they smother the burn beautifully. Bliss!

Ticktick · 02/02/2015 11:59

Ps: I had braxton hicks for the first time yesterday. They were regular at every 10 mins for about two hours. I was sure it was the start of something so I bounced on my gym ball but to no avail.

GeekyHybrid · 02/02/2015 12:01

Is there any other way than alphabetical tweety?! ;-D

My mates like to wind me up saying I've OCD and once rearranged all my CD's into colour order (this was during a drinking session), I didn't quite rock on the spot but as soon as they left it was back to alphabetical - they all txtd within an hour to ask if that's what I'd done and I was like "hmm, maybe"! The whole nesting thing is a bit come and go here, did all the downstairs wooden floors (hoover and steam mop) the other day, next day sweet FA! Right, off to do final bit of gloss in the nursery as the carpet arrives tomorrow, so nearly there.

Oh dear tick, I've got a weakness for Frijj milkshakes at the best of times ;-/ Welcome to ML, I was surprised at how well I adapted too. And how busy I've managed to keep myself. Doh.

TMI Alert...Can someone advise me to what the mucus plug looks like? I'm just after loosing LOTS of some sort of discharge, it's cream coloured and like what you'd produce with a cold. Sorry for the grossness...! I'm 37+5 today.

tweety89 · 02/02/2015 12:47

blank if you live nearby the hospital, maybe call them as they might tell you to go there or maybe you should tell your mw to get a sample in case it's thrush? When my waters broke it was quite obvious and it was still dripping for a day after that (as I had no contractions until I went on the drip 30 hours later).
ha ha geeky! I actually sort out my shirts by colour and my CDs and DVDs by theme (and some times by colour -depending on the DVDs), so my OCD does kick in from time to time...! Wink
never had braxton hicks (I think). I'd be terrified as I don't want to go into labour before the cs date... Shock

Memphisbelly · 02/02/2015 15:38

Blank a mucus plug is jelly/snot like you can lose it or parts of it in weeks up to birth. People can also get lots more discharge in run up to end of pregnancy. If concerned call mw though

Minichuch · 02/02/2015 16:53

Oh my clothes in wardrobe are organised by type ie smart tips, jumpers, short sleeve, vests etc then subdivided by colour and all my books are on shelves organised by author surname plus if using pegs it has to be 2 pegs of the same colour and preferably close to colour of item hanging ie white pegs for white clothes but I don't have ocd lol

Think getting bh but not sure - occasional irritating twinge nothing major thou

GeekyHybrid · 02/02/2015 18:43

lol mini, I feel more normal now! My wardrobe is abosolutely not organised. Fiction books definitely alphabetical by author. Non-fiction by category though I do have ambitions to one day have everything done according to the Dewey decimal system - one of my best friends parents taught librarianship at a top university, they were interesting people but even I would be tempted to say a bit anal! No OCD here either ;-D

I'm so looking forward to maternity leave, finish on Friday!
I woke up with spots on my chin like I'm getting a period, very strange!
I didn't sleep well at all last night, fingers crossed for a better nights sleep tonight.

Memphisbelly · 02/02/2015 19:14

Long since having baby I have errupted in spots but now my skin looks good again, i also developed a spotty bum in week before birth!

sandulacek · 02/02/2015 19:57

Long hope it goes fast for you. I've been just saying I can't imagine being still at work.
I'm 37 weeks and can't wait for the elcs at 39 weeks!

longbottom · 02/02/2015 20:33

Thanks sand, 37 weeks on Wednesday, this last slog is tiring! Got two full days left, weds and fri, today went really fast so fingers crossed it continues.

Memphis, I've had a spotty bum too Blush so attractive!

NicLondon1 · 02/02/2015 20:46

Honeybird I feel the same as you! Have had BH since about 20-something weeks, the last 2 weeks they are approx every 90mins - 2 hours and getting more uncomfortable... I keep looking for further signs of early labour but nothing has happened yet! Though have had insomnia, lost appetite, period pains for the last week....
On another note, is anyone else going to attempt using Hypnobirthing techniques? Have been listening to the calming CDs but am still not sure how they could possibly help with labour pains, I feel like I'm missing something, must be more to it..?

LittleMissSunshine33 · 02/02/2015 20:47

Enjoying hearing ladies labour experiences re Braxton hicks! I'd be interested to know whose labour started with mucus plug, contractions or waters breaking first??

Bangonthedoor · 02/02/2015 20:52

So just had my reflexology and really enjoyed it, feeling very relaxed. Hoping it at least helps me to have a good sleep tonight even if it is on the sofa. Going to watch broad church and get my head down and hope for the best.

My afternoon with DD and nephew went as expected....absolutely exhausting. And I've also erupted with spots on my chin!

PinkyAndTheBump · 02/02/2015 21:19

Had stretch & sweep this afternoon. Was already 1cm dilated and now about 2cm!
Consulant who did it was brilliant. Told him I'd had smear tests which hurt more!!
Went for a long walk afterwards and hope that's encouraging her in the right direction!

Bangonthedoor · 02/02/2015 21:24

Yay pinky! Sounds great! Fingers crossed things get moving for you soon Grin

longbottom · 02/02/2015 21:38

Fingers crossed pinky!!

Hope for some sleep for all of us!!

tweety89 · 02/02/2015 21:46

Good luck pinky! I wasn't 2cm dilated even after 35 hours that my waters broke on DD so I believe tonight/tomorrow is the day! Grin.

Need to arrange wax/shave soon as I wouldn't like the mw to do it for me before the op. A friend of mine had once told me that she had done it by herself before giving birth (!). Hmm I haven't been able to see anything down there since week 25 or something, let alone being able to hold a razor near there...Shock.

Honeybird · 02/02/2015 22:24

pinky when are/were you due? Very exciting good luck!

I have a consultant appointment tomorrow for a check and a sweep if I want it, hoping they'll tell me I'm at least softening... 38+5 tomorrow.

No bum spots here but my 2 year old DD did kindly point out to me the other day as I got out of the shower that my bum is 'squishy squishy squishy'.

postitnotes · 02/02/2015 22:34

I'm on my third cup of hot choc this evening to fool myself that I'm tired, but it's not working!

Nic I did a hypnobirthing course with my first baby, it was basically lots of relaxation techniques with a surprising amount of science/biology thrown in too (although the woman running it was a midwife so maybe that's why it was less 'hippy' that I'd imagined), but I ended up knowing I was going to have a CS so I didn't really throw myself into it. Funnily enough, I was just saying to my DH that I remembered using the technique to try and keep calm when they did the spinal and now I can't remember any of it.

Tweety I've asked DH to do my pre-op shave, although I really don't want him to! I did it myself last time but can't remember how, although had much smaller bump. I was told to use hair removal cream but i tend to be allergic to it so i'll be whipping the razor out instead.

Hope everyone gets some sleep. I think it might be a late one for me.

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 02/02/2015 22:51

Tweety, postit its worth checking with your hospital but most now advise against shaving/other form of hair removal prior to c section as it has been shown to increase wound infection rates.
