BanglesSpangles · 27/01/2015 09:22

Hello hello, I'm here!

GeekyHybrid · 27/01/2015 09:24

I suspect memphis that this one will fill even quicker than the last. It really is all happening! How's Donnie this morning? Cute as ever?!

Oh Memphis...I'm in a state of semi shock after reading your post! Your poor bits... Shock

Memphisbelly · 27/01/2015 09:34

Blanks its fine this time...can you see why I rave about armica now? Grin My friend had a boob job and she got minimal bruising as her surgeon told her to use it too!

Geeky cute as ever yes?...cuter even as he is now feeding so sleeping too, woke at midnight and 5.... So I am bright eyed and bushy tailed!

LittleMissSunshine33 · 27/01/2015 09:51

Morning all!

Only a few days left in January ready for more babies! I see there's still a January thread I bet they are all ready to pop by now!

I had lots of braxton hicks last night I even woke up DH but managed to have a lay in now bean is really on the move! I will miss my bump but can't wait to see who is learning to swim in me!! Grin

LittleMissSunshine33 · 27/01/2015 09:52

Thanks for the thread Geeky!

Grinningcat · 27/01/2015 10:28

Thanks for the new thread!

Still feeling rubbish this morning. Yesterday really took it out of me. Had a rubbish night as predicted. Burst into tears at 12.30am because I startled myself awake and I couldn't sleep. DH had to rub my back with the light on to calm me down. Even then I didn't actually sleep until half 2. Thank goodness for working from home though. I could at least sleep in a bit later once I did actually drop off.

I'm still liking my bump atm. Looking forward to having/meeting the baby, but I like the rolls and pushes I'm getting. May change my mind in a couple of weeks though as I'm only 36w + 3 so quite behind most of you.

HelKat207 · 27/01/2015 10:40

Hello!
Just wondering (as I genuinely feel like I've never done this before even though I have)
What toiletries are you all using on baby?! Bubble bath nappy cream etc and also...brands of nappies?! Scared to stock up on too many incase they turn out to be useless! I have pampers and some morrisons ones so far -boy what a price difference Shock
Oh so trivial in the grand scheme of things but I'm interested to know what you girls are doing Smile

freneticfox · 27/01/2015 10:46

Ooo, we zipped through that last thread - hello all!

Need some positive vibes today, feeling on the verge of breaking down. Got my consultant appointment this afternoon to beg for a CS if I go more than a week overdue.

I've also been hit with this nesting instinct, and there's so much I want to do; I keep seeing surfaces to clean, things to sort out etc. The problem is being on my feet for longer than a couple of minutes at a time REALLY hurts my SPD and I can't manage it. I'm finding it really distressing - all this desire to DO things and I physically can't.

Ready to be over and done with now.

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 27/01/2015 10:51

Helkat - no bath products at first, despite the claims on the bottles, they tend to be terrible on newborn skin. With DS midwife had said not to use bath products at first, and just a bit of olive oil if any dry skin. At 6weeks he had such beautiful skin, then we used Johnsons baby bath - he instantly got cradle cap and dry skin!

Once he was older we found simple baby to be best.

Bangonthedoor · 27/01/2015 11:27

Thank you for the new thread, the last one filled up quickly!

I'm really looking forward to seeing the difference with taking the arnica. Last time I had a 3rd degree tear which need suturing under a spinal in theatre. The pain during recovery was tremendous, you can imagine the bruising! I couldn't even laugh lightly without wincing. Obviously I don't know what's going to happen this time round tear wise (hopefully none!) but I'm hoping the arnica will at least reduce any bruising.

So can't wait to meet my baby now, I'm getting very impatient and desperately want to know if it's a boy or girl and what they'll look like!

Memphisbelly · 27/01/2015 11:38

Helkat no to products of any kind. Johnsons is really seen as something terrible by midwives it is so perfumed. Last time I used olive oil on his dry bits and bath in just water. Then went on to Simple head to toe wash then you are only using and buying one product. Will use Sanex zero head to toe wash as its what I still use on ds. I am using water wipes or just bought tesco newborn wipes as they claim to be like cotton wool and water and seem nice.
Nappies I have mostly Aldi as I really rate them but had to buy some Pampers micro as ds has no bottom and stick legs and they are only tiny ones I can find but i cannot stand the smell of pampers they smel chemically once wet.

No need for nappy cream unless they develop a rash. ds1 had bad nappy rash when older so used bepanthen or metanium when it got bad

BanglesSpangles · 27/01/2015 11:40

im not planning on using any products for a bit, and then will go for something that's not johnsons- anecdotally in spite of all the marketing about them being 'formulated for babies' and stuff, they seem to be the ones that most of my friends who have kids have said have made their skin flare up

i was wondering about nappy cream though- are you meant to just whack that on regardless, or wait for rashes?

BanglesSpangles · 27/01/2015 11:42

ooh cross over- thanks memphis answers my nappy rash cream conundrum!

Ive got some water wipes too as I didn't think i'd be able to cope with that first poo thing with cotton wool, and then have a random selection of wipes for after the (honkingly expensive) water wipes are finished to see how we get on

Giantbabymama · 27/01/2015 11:48

Hello, I'm here too. Still no nesting, still as lazy as ever. I spent the morning finishing a freelance job then absent-mindedly folding baby clothes, before realising I couldn't remember which were 0-3 months and which were 3-6 and what I had put where. They look the same ruddy size to me.

As well as lazy, I am so absent minded. I think I am just distracted but I suspect may also be the blood pressure lowering drugs. Sometimes DH is talking to me, and I realise I haven't taken anything in that he's said because my head is so full of baby.

Good tip on the arnica, I'm going to look into that.

I'm off to look vaguely round the bedroom in the hope that it will inspire me to do things like make the cot up and make more room for all the baby's stuff.

Memphisbelly · 27/01/2015 11:50

Bangles yes to water wipes price! I bought 2 packs and took one to hospital. Got these newborn ones and huggies pure. They are thicker so good for poopanovas! Grin

Honeybird · 27/01/2015 12:09

Had a tiny false alarm last night, loads of bh contractions that seemed quite regular plus a dodgy tummy. Went away though. Made me realise that I may soon have to push a baby out, how is this idea still a shock to me?

Never heard of water wipes but my kids both have very sensitive skin and fragrance free normal wipes have always been ok for them. This thing I've heard about just using wet cotton wool.... Not convinced that would work on any baby poop let alone the first couple.

GeekyHybrid · 27/01/2015 12:14

Skirting boards glossed Grin The carpet may now arrive. LO has been protesting throughout at my sitting on the floor to get it done but over now. Door frame this afternoon.

Good luck this afternoon frenetic, I'm sending positive vibes in your direction. And please don't feel too bad about not being able to do 'everything', I've got a million things I'd like to get done and yes it's frustrating but I just can't realistically do it all. Baby will survive if top of the kitchen cupboards are still filthy. I hope!! Wink

Thanks Geeky, spent most of this morning just on the sofa in tears. Trying to get myself together for hospital at 3!

Memphisbelly · 27/01/2015 13:13

Oh frenetic I really hope you get the result you hope for. Would you be happy if they said they could book you a few says before due date? In this borough they wouldn't agree to an elcs past due date due to the costs involved of booking a section and wponce at due date chances of it going to waste hightens. My friend booked hers 3 days before due date as it was the latest they would consider booking it (and she gave birth day before that)

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 27/01/2015 13:53

Frenetic good luck. Make sure any decision is clearly written in notes, so they can't just change their mind.

Well after friday being stuck in bed, I was just about OK sat, then sun was hit and miss. Then yesterday ended up quite eventful.

I kept getting really sharp pain over where my kidney was. At first I thought it was baby's position but as the morn went on it was getting worse. Coupled with the fact that since Sunday I've been getting terrible dizzy spells, I thought it probably best to call midwife. She wanted me in straight away, so DH took me on his lunch break. My blood pressure was sky high and staying there (very unlike me for pregnancy - I'm normally at the low end of normal), I have swelling around my calf's, ankles and feet (had for a while, its due to immobility from my PGP), Sunday night I'd removed my wedding ring because it was suddenly digging in, I've been having constant but not to bad headaches that I'd put down to being overtired. Que MW worrying this could all point to preeclampsia and sending me to labour ward, who she also wanted to look at blood clotting risk due to PGP.

DH had to phone into work and that he wouldn't be back in. Fortunately blood pressure had come down once we were at hospital. The baby trace thingy showed baby was fine. They did however give me those horrible stocking things and a prescription for blood thinning injections because they do think I'm at a highish risk of blood clots due to immobility. The stocking things have helped with the swelling on my legs too. They think fingers swelling, headaches and the sharp pain over kidney is just one of those things.

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 27/01/2015 14:04

On the wipes front as long as they are the sensitive, unfragranced ones I don't actually know anyone who's had a problem with any brand on LO's skin. The only differences between brands is thickness (I actually don't like really thick ones), how easy they come out of the packet and price.

I've also never really got how on earth your supposed to clean those first poos with cotton wool and water, its hard enough with wipes. Even after that poos would be awful with cotton wool.

Was it someone on this thread that suggested using some olive oil to help get the first tar like poo off los skin? Might try that.

Oh and nappy wise definitely best not to stock up on one brand before you know how they will suit LO's shape and that they won't irritate skin (looking at you evil pampers - making DS's skin raw in 15mins, without any wee or poo in nappy - grr).

PeppermintInfusion · 27/01/2015 14:17

Oh I've had a bit of a dramatic morning. I decided today to go to work today to collect what I needed from my desk as I'm going to work from home full time until I go on mat leave on the 6th feb.
First off I cut my finger really badly on a tin, bleeding everywhere in the kitchen so I was late for work. Then I got there and slipped in the reception! I didn't land on my bump as my bags broke my fall and I landed on my knee.
I called the midwife but she wanted me to go to the fetal assessment unit as I'm O neg to be on the safe side, so I've spent the morning then getting a trace, scan and anti-d. Everything's ok now but I feel absolutely exhausted!

PeppermintInfusion · 27/01/2015 14:18

Also last time I was in mothercare they had good deals on water wipes, cheapest I've seen them, as think it worked out roughly a pound a packet.
