Couldn't see a new thread so thought I'd make one. Congratulations to all the mummies so far. Looking forward to hearing lots more birth stories. Good luck for those still to go.

I may struggle into mothercare later then...which will take much planning at this stage!

loulily27 · 16/01/2015 10:18

Morning everyone,Congrats little pink! Baby finally arrived! I had a diff mw for my appt yest and she was VERY thorough with my sweep, she even said most women wouldn't have tolerated it so feeling brave! Been feeling tender since and a little bleeding. She also said go for long hilly walk which I did wit my mum but still nothing happening! 40+8 induction booked for Tues which I really don't want but baby doesn't seem to want to come out! So frustrated! X

loulily27 · 16/01/2015 12:14

On the nursing bra front I got some from asda for only £8 (not sale but reg price) in 38G. Loads of sizes available and smaller ones were only £6! X

AlteredCarbon · 16/01/2015 16:06

Baby turned up at 6:49 this morning from a standing start at half past midnight. No prior warning! A boy weighing 7lb 14oz and currently nameless.

Big congrats Carbon!

SK28 · 16/01/2015 18:48

Lou If you're not keen on being induced, can you ask for it to be deferred to a bit later than 40+8? Just to give it more chance to happen naturally.

Where I am the standard time to induce is 40+12. I'm not sure if they'd make it earlier if I pushed for it but that was all I've been offered.

39+4

HenriettaTurkey · 16/01/2015 18:56

That's the way to do it, Carbon!! Many congratulations. :)

I have been and bought a 2 pack of nursing bras from mothercare, along with a nursing nightie and light robe combo, which will be lovely for the hospital.

Knackered now!

sallygib · 17/01/2015 02:51

Was booked in for a sweep yesterday at 40+4 but midwife sent me to hospital when I casually mentioned that babies movements are no longer in pattern but much more erratic. Was good to be monitored, everything ok and feel much more prepped for labour now. When turning up at hospital realised how much I dislike them and before pregnancy hadn't spent anytime in one except for other people, still couldn't shake the feeling of being a nuisance! The monitor showed that I was regularly having braxton hicks for the visit but I barely felt them?

Sweep now happening in the morning, feel like this baby is never going to come as no signs of labour, seems odd to be desiring pain?.. So jealous of all you, ladies with your lovely babies!

Will catch up on thread soon, but congratulations to anyone who's had their baby in the last few days!

My little Hannah arrived on Wednesday close to midnight, after induction that morning. (Which got postponed by a day). We're both doing well, just adjusting to sleeping/waking and feeding and getting to know one another. DH is a wonderful Daddy, as I hoped he'd be, and was such a support during the birth (as he continues to be).

Maybe will post more about the birth soon. Hopping on over to the PN thread next.

Good luck to the rest of you! :)

loulily27 · 17/01/2015 09:42

SK28, I meant I was 40+8 when I wrote the post, booked for induction Tues which will be 40+12, thanks anyway. Still nothing running out of time! Anyone had any good, or not terrible, experiences of induction? I have a bad back so really want to avoid epidural but have heard the drip is really painful! Think I'm quite good with pain but worried about drip and really wanted a water birth which iv checked my hosps maternity guidelines and they won't allow with induction for some reason x

HenriettaTurkey · 17/01/2015 11:53

Loulily I was pessary induced with pre-eclampsia at 40+8 at 7.30pm. Labour pains started at about 11.45pm and DS was born at 2.47am the next morning.

No drip, no time for an epidural! Pretty amazing really...I've heard that post-term inductions tend to be more straightforward and more likely to 'take' than early ones as you've had more time for your body to get ready.

So yeah, my experience was pretty positive. All the best!

loulily27 · 17/01/2015 12:32

Thanks henrietta makes me feel a lot better! Think I had a bit of a show this morning, hopefully things are going in the right direction! X

HenriettaTurkey · 17/01/2015 12:59

Ooh - a show! Maybe you won't need it after all!!

HelloMist Congratulations on the arrival of Hannah!

SK28 · 17/01/2015 16:41

Ah Lou, I see - sorry, should have read it properly!

Nesspot · 17/01/2015 18:52

Baby Lachlan born at 1.45am this morning weighing in at 6lb 14oz.

Pretty traumatic tbh - after being blue-lighted in an ambulance down the motorway in a blizzard to a consultant led unit due to complications, I ended up having emergency section after a very tough day then further surgery and blood transfusion this morning for internal bleeding.

But he's here, healthy and very handsome and we couldn't be happier ????

I'll post the full story in a few days once I've recovered a bit!

xxx

Congratulations Ness! That must have been scary and exhausting but I'm so glad he is here safe and well. Hope you are both recovering well. Enjoy your little man!

Wishing you a speedy recovery x

Congratulations to everyone who has welcomed new babies recently. It's been our first night at home tonight with baby Seth, and so far so good. He's just going back to sleep after a feed so thought I'd quickly share the birth story for anyone who likes reading them.

I was booked for a sweep on the 16th at 40+4 and had absolutely no signs/shows/pains at all so was convinced when I went to bed I was heading for induction. At half past midnight I woke up with period like back pain and remembered thinking I hope this means the midwife will at least be able to do the sweep. But from there everything just slammed into overdrive and from nowhere I started having 20-30 second contractions 6-8 minutes apart. I phoned the hospital at half one and they understandably told me as it was a first baby I should try having a bath and labouring at home as it would probably be awhile. So I got on my birth ball expecting a long night but the contractions just kept coming stronger, longer and closer together. By 3am I realised that I should probably phone the hospital back as it was 45mins away and they said I could come in for check but should be prepared that I might be better at home. We'd arrived at the hospital by 4am and the midwife who performed the exam was very surprised to find that I was already 4cm dilated. I asked for the birth pool and they said they'd get it ready but Seth wasn't prepared to wait and he arrived at 6:49. The speed meant I only had gas and air and also caused him to get stressed so there was meconium in the waters. Thankfully both of us checked out fine. No ill effects at all for him, and 2nd degree tearing and a bleed for me which was all taken care of very quickly.

Sorry for the long post but for anyone still waiting and having no signs, it can happen without them!

HenriettaTurkey · 18/01/2015 08:45

Altered, what a fantastic birth story: I love it! Welcome, little Seth.
