Couldn't see a new thread so thought I'd make one. Congratulations to all the mummies so far. Looking forward to hearing lots more birth stories. Good luck for those still to go.

Big congrats Lou! You got there in the end! Looking forward to hearing more but for now well done and congratulations on your little girl Smile

jobrum · 24/01/2015 10:56

I did post a message but it has disappeared. As I am low risk I have 14 days post due date to go into labour naturally if I choose to. After that, no midwife centre or birth pool. If I choose not to be induced I have to go in twice a week for monitoring which as I don't drive and the hospital is a walk and a bus ride away, I don't think I'll be doing! I spoke with DH and we've agreed that I'll wait a couple of days after my due date just to see if I do go into labour naturally but no longer than that. I just want to meet the baby that I've spent all these months growing!

Congratulations Lou!

Congratulations Ryslady!
Today was my official due date - feeling a little blue as people had been predicting an early birth for weeks, and early cervical checks also suggested she could well have been here by now. More and more uncomfortable, hard to get some sleep and a bit sad that more time at home now means less time with our little one before having to get back to work.
Also worried because of a pre-pregnancy condition I have that would be worsened by vb with a bigger baby. Was initially advised to go for ELCS but after examination the specialist reconsidered and said only if she's above 3,5kgs. This seems to be what she's weighing this week, but we can no longer get accurate measurements because the head is so low in my pelvis, which means it looks like we'll have to take our chances, hope she doesn't come too late/ isn't too big and vb doesn't lead to too much damage... Getting a bit anxious about that - come on baby!
Very hard not to be symptom watching and get my/DH's hopes up everytime something happens (which is a lot these days).
Seeing dr on Monday (40+2), will probably have a sweep and if nothing happens, looks like it'll be an induction the following Monday/Tuesday... Good luck to all of you who are also waiting and desperate for labour signs! xx

SK28 · 24/01/2015 17:18

Nine minutes Rys?! Wow Shock Congratulations on your new arrival and great to hear you're settling into family-of-four life well Smile

Ryslady · 24/01/2015 17:52

Yeah 9 minutes! with ds it was 22 hours from first contraction!
I'd felt a bit odd all day on the 19th but couldn't really put my finger on what was wrong. I went to bed at about 10pm then woke at 2am to go to toilet. there fresh blood and a clot in the toilet after I'd been. I thought best ring labour ward and they asked me to come in. I woke DH and we met my mum on hospital car park about 2:30 to hand over DS. got checked by midwife about 3ish who said I was 1 cm dilated and blood was probably a show. I was told I'd have to stay in and see Dr in the morning. DH was sent home and I went to antenatal ward. I sat on edge of the bed for about an hour coz I just couldn't settle, still felt really odd. then I lay in the bed. at 5:03 I had a tremendous pain in my abdomen and I lept from the bed for my waters to break. I shouted for help. The pains came thick and fast now. The midwife came, called for help and my little girl was born at 05:12. 3 pushes and there she was!
needed a couple of stitches but other than that all was well. DH was surprised to say the least when the midwife phoned him! xx

I'm going to hop across to the post natal thread now, but will keep lurking here to read about all the new babies being born.

First one was traumatic enough
Second one can be speedy please!

sallygib · 26/01/2015 02:32

Finally had baby Arthur at 14:26 on Friday 23rd January. He was 11 days overdue and i was induced at 11am (ish) on Thursday morning. Contractions started about 2pm when pessary kicked in....went for a walk around the hospital and waters broke at 3:45 pm as a woman with newborn baby was wheeled past me en route to maternity ward. Cue ten hours of intense contractions with paracetamol and codeine , 3/4 every ten mins but still only 2cm dilated. I was taken to labour ward, given blissful gas and air for 5 mins, epidural in and stuck on drip about 4am Friday. Managed to snaffle some much needed sleep and was 10 cm dilated by noon. Started pushing to no avail by 2pm, forceps, episiotomy, one big push from me and an even bigger pull from doctor and out he shot. By this stage had almost stopped believing there was a baby in there!

Feels odd to write reflect and retell as I'm lying here feeding my lovely little night owl!

SK28 · 26/01/2015 08:50

Congratulations Sally on little Arthur's arrival! It sounds like a bit of a slog but I'm sure he was worth the wait! Hope you are recovering well and settling into family life at home Smile

Pesto11 · 26/01/2015 09:29

40+4. Fed up now.

rumisyum · 27/01/2015 14:34

oh hello! I fell off the thread after posting in what really was early labour - I had my little boy the following morning! Sadly, I didn't have a 9 minute wonder labour (bloody hell, that's amazing), more of a long, slow one. And I had to go into hospital in the end for monitoring, so didn't get my home birth. (Mostly because the midwife who was sent out to us was doing her first home birth & was a bit nervous about it, I think. All was well when I was monitored & they told me I could go home again, but I was damned if I was transferring anywhere else without an actual baby.) But I still got a lovely water birth in one of hospital pool rooms with a fantastic midwife who gave me a proper home-away-from-home experience in the end though, so no complaints. No analgesia, no tears, baby born at 7:30am & we were all tucked up in bed at home again by noon - so all good! Now I'm sat here with an almost 3 week old on my lap - who'd have thunk it!

Good luck to those of you still waiting for baby! I should head over to postnatal now...

loulily27 · 28/01/2015 10:17

So ladies...the birth story! I went into hosp with my mum Tues 830am for a pessary induction. (didn't want to waste dh paternity leave waiting for things to happen) My cervix was unfavourable but hoped pessary would change that. After 24hrs no change to cervix so left in for further 6hrs. STILL no change so I was told at 330pm weds I had to have waters broken and/or hormone drip on labour ward. I had to have a midwife one-to-one because of induction and had to wait until 1230pm Thurs until one was available!! On examination midwife thought baby was breech so consultant came with a scanner but all was ok thankfully. But to my horror my cervix was still closed, long and thick, so much yhat she couldn't break my waters. She got a doctor who said she would force thru cervix and break waters! I had gas and air, which I don't think did anything, and it was severe agony! Because of the poor state of my cervix they put me straight on drip. Hours went by, nothing happened consultant authoried

loulily27 · 28/01/2015 10:22

Putting drip up as soon as possible. Most women need 2-4mls to start contractions. I was at 20, most midwife can give, with weak contractions 2cm dilated! I was put to maximum machine would do after consultants authorisation of 32mls!!! A midwife covered mines break and was like wow ur on 32 have u had an epidural! I said no she couldn't believe it I should be in agony but my body wasn't responding! 13hrs on drip, 8hrs at 32, I got to 3cms so consultant advised I had to have a c-section as my body just didn't want to labour. I was hugely disappointed and scared but we had no choice. I was literally shaking but my dh was amazing and got me thru it. I reacted badly to anaesthetic was sick shaking and very drowsy but baby Annabelle finally arrived 430am fri 15 days overdue at 9lb2! She is fantastic and I love her so much but I would seriously reconsider having another. If I went overdue would need section again cos induction failed and this recovery is very difficult! X

Cherrypi · 28/01/2015 10:45

Congratulations both of you. What a contrast in stories. It's interesting how different everyone's birth story is. Glad your DH was great loulily. How long is he off with you for?
