Couldn't see a new thread so thought I'd make one. Congratulations to all the mummies so far. Looking forward to hearing lots more birth stories. Good luck for those still to go.

Hi everyone! Been directed here by little pink (many thanks) it's nice to hear all of the birth journeys. I am 40+6 now and rather anxious about being induced. Had mw on mon couldn't do a sweep cervix too closed, bishop score only 3 :( mw again tomoro hopefully can do a sweep this time! X

Nesspot · 14/01/2015 23:49

Good luck Soupy and congrats to the new mamas!

No budging for my wee guy yet tho I did have a bit of a show tonight which cheered me up a bit! Means he's at least thinking about making an appearance.

Getting lots of texts from people asking if there's any news - I don't find it annoying though. I actually like it. At least they care!

Hi lou good luck with the sweep today. Really hope it starts things off. Your cervix can change so quickly so perhaps your bishop score will be more today. Let us know how you get on.

Cherrypi · 15/01/2015 07:45

Right due date today so definitely not going happen to today right? So much for second babies being early grump grump.

LittlePink · 15/01/2015 08:33

Second babies being early us a myth! 10 days over here and even then he was evicted against his will!!!

Oops: accidentally named everyone in that post! Have reported and will repost!

Well...mixed news from yesterday morning. Not sure how I feel about it.

I arrived at the hospital and was seen by the MW but as soon as I sat down I burst into tears! She asked what the problem was & I explained. DH did his 'grounding' and I did my relaxation and I felt loads better for the little weep.

BP was lovely and low, no protein in urine, baby still LOA and all going splendidly.

So up on the bed for the sweep. More relaxation/visualisation but I simply could not open my legs far enough because of the SPD, so had to lie on my side and lift leg up. She said I was very very swollen but this was just due to baby's weight & position & 'lots of women get haemorrhoids too'. Lovely.

The sweep: she started to investigate. She managed to reach the cervix, at which point I felt a shooting searing pain and she stopped. She said there was no point continuing with the sweep as cervix is thick and high, so not ready. It would be excessively painful and pretty pointless as I'm not dilated enough. (I'm 38+5 and DS1 was 9 days late so maybe not that surprising).

Then I really did sob. Felt like a big failure. She said I'd done really well and it was just that my body wasn't ready...not that I wasn't relaxed.

I now have stockings to stop blood clots so I can rest up, as the say my SPD is really bad. I also have been advised to buy a TENS machine and bounce on the ball to try and trigger labour naturally.

Another sweep in a week. This time by the community midwife.

Feeling a bit downhearted but trying to be circumspect.

Today I am mainly suffering with severe SPD - hips and thighs in agony. A quiet one, I think.

CallingAllEngels · 15/01/2015 11:08

Give it another 2 weeks nesspot ! I went to 40+12 and by then people were driving me insane!

yep 2nd babies being early is bollocks. Ds1 3 days early, ds2 12 days late and intervention required to get him out.

Don't be hard on yourself henrietta - if babyis not ready yet, there's nothing you can do about it. Hugs. X

Thank you....trying to rest up and take it easy. Have abandoned the stockings though: can't get them on!

Will see MW tomorrow and get her to see if they're the right size for me...

SK28 · 15/01/2015 17:25

The nesting phase of mat leave is clearly over. All I am doing is eating and sleeping... Please tell me I'm not the only one with zero energy?!

Soupyliv · 15/01/2015 18:41

SK I am also at zero energy! I feel like a sloth!

Went in for my ECV today and amazingly..it worked!

It was incredibly uncomfortable and despite the muscle relaxant it brought tears to my eyes ( the consultant has to push through a big layer of muscle) but she turned. Fingers crossed now for a natural birth at the mlu

HenriettaTurkey · 15/01/2015 18:57

Not the only one, SK. Today I have made chicken & green bean risotto. And that's it!

Aagh - have my first sweep tomorrow morning at 40+4 and am dreading it! I know I need to relax or it will be worse but the thought of it is not going to make for pleasant dreams!

Pesto11 · 16/01/2015 03:31

good luck altered carbon
Hope it goes well... Think of baby on its way soon

AlteredCarbon · 16/01/2015 04:34

Thanks Pesto - doesn't look like I'll need the sweep though. Labour!!!

Thanks MadrigalsGrin good luck Carbon hope all goes well

Nesspot · 16/01/2015 07:00

Good luck carbon - think I'm in the same boat!

Regular pains for the last 2/3 hours and I'm pretty sure my waters are leaking. CMU where I'm hoping to deliver opens at 8am so gonna wait til then and give them a call.

DH is currently snoring away next to me - he has no idea! SmileGrin

Cherrypi · 16/01/2015 08:08

Good luck carbon and Ness. Woken up with a rotten cold so don't want the baby to come today. May opt out of sweep this morning. 40+1.

SK28 · 16/01/2015 08:44

Good luck Carbon and Ness (although I'm secretly a bit jealous Ness as we share same due date and no sign of labour here!!). Hope all goes well and you both have your babies in your arms very soon x

HenriettaTurkey · 16/01/2015 09:30

Good luck everyone!!!

39 weeks today. Shoulda bought nursing bras by now, shouldn't I? How do you get measured when your milk hasn't come in?

SK28 · 16/01/2015 09:50

Henrietta I was puzzling over this too. I've ended up just buying two cheap ones in H&M in more or less my current size - erring slightly towards the larger end. And then I'll just have to see how it goes although goodness knows how you're expected to get out and get measured once baby is here - I will probably measure myself and order from online. I feel like I've read they'll be up and down anyway in size - might have a few weeks where they are huge when milk comes in but then they settle down a little bit after the first few weeks?
