Ceejay14 I'm probably absolutely going to regret this, but I am planning to leave the day before my C-section (so will know the date later on)

With DS I left at 36 weeks, was totally bored for 4 weeks before I had him, he arrived on his due date.

With DD, I left on the Monday, had her by ELCS on the Friday.

I need to save as much Mat leave and annual leave as possible as I will only be having 8-10 weeks off, so it has to be the day before.

I am assuming this C-section will also be 38 weeks like the last one. I have just over an hour commute to work but a an all day sit down job so should be fine.

broodylicious Thinking of you today, FX for this sticky little bean and your scan coming up soon.

Stay strong Broody, hoping this time is different.

If it's any conciliation my DS didn't sleep through the night for years, getting up 3-4 times, but oddly I had DD when he was approaching 4 and I swear the first night home with baby was the first night he slept through and had no problems since. Just wish I could now get the pair of them to sleep in bloody later than 7 St weekends Confused

Thepurplegiraffe · 07/01/2015 09:03

Thinking of you Broody, that's a tough one to get through. Hope the day passes quickly Thanks

Overtiredbackagain · 07/01/2015 09:05

Number3 I have absolutely no idea when to plan on Mat leave. DS was born nearly two weeks early, so I went on maternity leave three weeks before with DD and low and behold she was born on her due date! Working up town with a 2 hour commute each way fills me with dread though, I guess I'll just see how I feel xx

Thepurplegiraffe · 07/01/2015 09:06

Working from home today as dd has a doctor appointment this afternoon. Lucky as I threw up when I would have been on the train.

We have periods where dd sleeps through and then it all goes to pot again like now. At least we get good times I guess, hoping for those when the baby arrives.

Zampa · 07/01/2015 09:13

Also working from home as have my NHS scan today. Despite having already had an early scan, a Harmony scan and my test results, I'm still quite excited.

Did you all get a confirmed EDD St the scan?

Zampa · 07/01/2015 09:14

Thepurplegiraffe · 07/01/2015 09:17

Yep! From memory that is the date that is used for the rest of the pregnancy. Good luck today!

MisterSafetyCatchIsNotOn · 07/01/2015 09:42

ceejay both my current and former workplace had the same policy re annual leave, it is quite a normal one. However it may be negotiable with your line manager if they would prefer you to stick around longer. You can of course also take some annual leave before then rather than use it all up at once. I am going to ask my boss if I can carry a bit over to use at the end of my leave as I won't be able to take much before June (v busy time of year!) and still have a week carried over from last year to use up! I have a big meeting / deadline 2 weeks before due date so he'll probably be happy to flex the rules!

misseskimo · 07/01/2015 09:57

Congrats on all the positive scans ladies Grin

ceejay my work let me accrue my holiday and use either before or after maternity leave. Though she did say most use it to come back part time, which I may also do. Bank hols not sure of, I thought you just lost them tbh Hmm

I think I jinxed myself Monday after saying it was a good day. Got home and had a nasty headache which slowly turned into a migraine by 8pm when I went to bed. Still there next day, so spent most of yesterday in bed in a dark room. Then back to work today and got a letter from my HR stating I went over my sickness allowance last year, so my 3wks sickness in December would be unpaid!! I'm really annoyed because when I checked my sick days, my limit (which I didn't even know I had) was hit mid November, so they would have known in Novembers pay run and could have told me then. OR they could have told me in the two catchup calls I had with them in December whilst I was off! Not 2months after I hit the limit, and after I've taken a further 13days sick! Basically means I now will only get paid for 6days in December which I really can't afford to have happen Sad need to speak to my manager tomorrow and see where I stand with it. As I'm sure they should have told me sooner?

misseskimo · 07/01/2015 10:02

Oh and to top it off, I think my belly bar has an infection (after 13yrs) as the top hole is all red and swollen, very sore and looks a bit gunky (sorry tmi!) I've covered it up for now and put a bit of savlon on it. I'm not sure if its the pregnancy thats caused it, or if I've somehow caught it badly without realising. Which I've never done this bad before Hmm anyone else had an issue with belly bars in pg?

Number3cometome · 07/01/2015 10:02

misseskimo They should have notified you of what your sick pay entitlement is, or at least your line manager should have.

Have you got a sick cert? If you have, you can claim back some SSP from the government?

I always thought sick rules were irrelevant with pregnancy illness, but I could be wrong.

Number3cometome · 07/01/2015 10:03

I found an extract:

You are entitled to receive the same sick pay as other employees. If you qualify, you will be entitled to Statutory Sick Pay (SSP). If your employer normally pays sick pay, over and above SSP, you should be entitled to that in the usual way. If your employer refuses to pay sick pay during pregnancy, you could have a claim for sex discrimination. You are entitled to however much sick pay is stated in your contract. Once you have used that up, you should be entitled to SSP. See the question below about maternity pay and SSP.

Naturegirl82 · 07/01/2015 10:04

Bank hols is a tricky one as it depends on the wording of your contract as to whether you accrue them or not. There isn't a definitive answer unfortunately.

miss that's annoying about the sick leave. Does it state in your contract or terms and conditions what your limit is on paid sick leave? It should have been made clear to you what this was. Are you able to claim ssp for any of that time (I don't know how that works so can't advise). When does your leave year reset?

Overtiredbackagain · 07/01/2015 10:06

I did Miss, which was why I ended up taking my bar out and using a surgical band to keep it open. Mine got infected and my GP told me it was hormone related etc, which sounds strange but when you think of all the changes you're going through, I guess it makes sense!

Naturegirl82 · 07/01/2015 10:07

number pregnancy sickness can't be used against you for disciplinary reasons but you are only entitled to enhanced pay the same as other employees (I guess otherwise it would be discrimination against non - pregnant people).

Number3cometome · 07/01/2015 10:09

Naturegirl82 Ahh yes, that makes sense.

We had a lady here who was off for at least 4 months with HG, we only get 6 weeks pay here, so she must have been skint poor thing.

Naturegirl82 · 07/01/2015 10:14

I only get 2 weeks paid. I managed to get round it a little bit last time by working from home if I was not feeling right, and doing as much work as I could face so reducing the number of hours I took off sick.

Thepurplegiraffe · 07/01/2015 10:36

I did a lot of working from home last time and it is going the same way this time. That allowed me to take very few days off sick which helped a lot.

Fleurchamp · 07/01/2015 10:41

Littledragon13 · 07/01/2015 10:41

Ladies, have any of you had any thoughts about antinatal classes? I've registered my interest in some local NCT classes as recommended by a friend. This is our first DC so we need all the advice and preparation that we can get!

LaLa5 · 07/01/2015 10:41

Broody I really hope today goes by quickly for you and you reach your next milestone soon x

WantToGoingTo · 07/01/2015 10:57

little my first dc but very one I have spoken to recommends nct. I have signed up to nct signature antenatal and nct postnatal classes :)

miss that is v annoying re your sick pay, they should have given you a warning that you were approaching limit. Advice above re ssp sounds good if your employer won't pay.

So nervous, have to tell bosses boss tomorrow. Was going to have mtg after scan on Friday but now she not in on Friday so have to tell her tomorrow before scan :( she was one that made me cry before Xmas and when I said I was stressed she asked me why! I hope she doesn't think I am a flaky employee and can't do a good job while pg Confused

Bustherb · 07/01/2015 11:01

Broody thinking of you Thanks

Number I thought you couldn't take pregnancy related sickness without it affecting you? Im off sick today as I've been up since 5.30 being sick Hmm

My manager asked me yesterday if I had thought about what I'll be doing time off wise. I think I'll work up until I can and then take a year off. My work has got really good terms so I will get 6 months full pay. I think from other people doing it all bank holidays will be saved so I can take them at the end of my maternity. Anybody else thinking they might go back part time?xx
