Well done nyancat! Big congrats. I bet he's a lovely, snuggly little bundle!

Last night I started having intense period pains. They were building up to a peak in a wave but lasting 30 secs maybe. They came every 5 minutes for 30 mins then I fell asleep and woke up this morning after the best sleep I've had since I was 32 wks and no more cramps. I woke up, looked at the clock, it was 7.20am and thought oh what happened? Nothing happened! Ugh! My body was definitely trying last night but gave up at the first hurdle. Hope the sweep tomorrow starts things off again.

I thought how nice it would be if we can carry on the thread after all the babies are born for support and advice to each other. If people aren't too busy once the babies come that is. What do you think?

39+1

SK28 · 29/12/2014 11:09

Eliza, I'm only 37 weeks but no mention of a sweep has been made to me yet so nothing booked here. I have mw appt tomorrow so maybe they'll mention it then.

Elizadoesdolittle · 29/12/2014 11:10

littlepink I am still on my Nov 2012 babies thread. Had a few difficulties with DD2 and the girls on their were amazing and got me through. Still are to be honest. I find these groups really come into their own once the babies are born and the interesting times start!

SK28 · 29/12/2014 11:13

LittlePink I'd love to stay in touch via a PN group. I'm on the FB group too but try to check in here every day too, and it'd be so nice to hear how everyone is getting on once the babies are all here Smile

Dec2013mummy · 29/12/2014 11:23

Ooh I am definitely up for a postnatal thread. To be able to share experiences etc will be of great support. We will have to set one up and then add a link.
Still sat waiting for the midwife. I have a horrible feeling she's going to not turn up! We shall see hay!

LittlePink · 29/12/2014 11:33

A postnatal group would be great. I did nct last time so had the group emails going round in the early hours when we were all awake feeding but not doing nct this time so a group would be good to share our ups and downs with. I think you really need that in the beginning as friends/ relatives who've had babies before can be really helpful but they're not going through it at the time and it's easy to forget the haze of the newborn days.

cheshirem2b · 29/12/2014 13:03

Definitely up for a postnatal thread!
I drifted off to sleep last night and woke at 7am with NO PAIN! it's stopped again! Argh! 2 days of on & off is infuriating yo say the least!
Been to midwife this morning and she examined me and I'm 2cm dilated so she's performed a sweep, felt baby's head internally (eek!) and said that if I was seeing her in hospital (which I wasn't) she could have ruptured my waters. Baby's head is really low down and just waiting to see now if the sweep takes effect. Nice to know that the last 2 days of pain haven't been in vain and hopefully things can move along again.
I'm feeling ok today - quite energetic after a good sleep has helped loads. Hoping to see my baby v soon now!

Dec I hope your midwife can reassure you today. The last week is horrendous isn't it? So many ups & downs. Hope you feel better soon.
SK28 my diabetes midwife mentioned sweep when I was 38w for my 39w check with her but before that it wasn't mentioned at all. I don't think they like to do them early unless they need to - they aren't pleasant!
Little welcome to the stop start club!

CallingAllEngels · 29/12/2014 14:47

dec hope the mw turned up.

chesh glad to hear things are moving. fx your baby is here soon.

yy to PN thread. I still check in sporadically with my Oct 2011 thread, especially recently when potty training DS and wanting advice. We have a fb group for that too, both both pretty quiet over the last year.

Well, was booked for a sweep today but mw couldn't do it, zero dilation Sad Have another booked in for end of week on my birthday but if still no dilation will have to start thinking about induction.

40+1 and thoroughly fed up.

LittlePink · 29/12/2014 16:31

Don't despair calling! You could start to dilate overnight. The dilation doesn't mean anything anyway in terms of when labour will be. I understand the frustration that she couldn't do it though when you were banking on it being done today. Let's hope you go spontaneously over next day or so without ever needing a sweep. I've got mine tomorrow so time will tell what's what with that!

Pesto11 · 29/12/2014 17:13

I have midwife appt tomorrow at 39+3
No mention of sweeps or anything at last appt. this is the first place I've heard of it.

If it's offered tomorrow do I say yes?
Read up on it a bit and altho it sounds uncomfortable it also sounds like it could get things moving... Which I like the sound of!

Any negatives? Should I wait till I'm over 40w or by then will the conversation be more about induction rather than sweeps?

deuscat · 29/12/2014 17:13

Congratulations Nyancat! Hope you're enjoying your precious bundle Smile

Hope everyone else starts in spontaneous labour soon!

Dec2013mummy · 29/12/2014 17:30

pesto I had a sweep with Ds. It worked as I was already dilated and he was on his way, however he was in the wrong position so I had a pretty bad labor. It will only work if things are heading in the right direction anyway (no pun intended) and I would have one again although only if things were looking favourable and I would make sure they are in the correct position first. Although having said that Ds had a really short cord, which I didn't know at the time, so although he tried to turn throughout labor he was never able to. It would have made no difference if I had known as nothing could have been done bar cs.
calling and little fx that things start to happen soon.
Cheshire I was 2cm when they did the sweep with Ds and it started straight away, although it was a 27 hr labor, but that was because he was back to back.
Well the midwife turned up at 2 (was an am app) but I do understand how busy she obviously was. All seemed fine, baby is now engaged but I know they keep popping in and out as I can feel it! I am very annoyed though as the earliest appointment that I can have with her next is the 12th jan so 41+1!!! That means no sweeps etc for me. She did say I have to keep an eye and any concerns at all to go to triage. Worries me alit though that heartbeat etc won't be checked until then so I will definitely be going in with any concerns at all. Also it's another 2 weeks. I am hoping I am not still pregnant by then anyway!
Had people popping in again all day today. I am determined I will have 1 day this week of doing nothing but we shall see!

CallingAllEngels · 29/12/2014 18:25

pesto the first mention made of sweep to me was at my appt last week 39+3 - but I'm not in the UK anyway so sometimes things are different over here. I would rather wait as long as possible before induction as means hospital instead of birth centre. Last time I had spontaneous labour at 39+4 and a fairly easy delivery so fx everything starts off by itself.

Congrats nyancat ! (missed your news on my last look at the thread!)

Dec2013mummy · 29/12/2014 18:34

Just had a sudden urge for boiled eggs and salad cream. No idea why, I don't love them or anything normally! Dh is making me some. I'm lay in bed feeling really tough but luckily my parents are here so are entertaining Ds while Dh runs around after me Grin
Anyone else had sudden and very strange cravings?

chiruri · 29/12/2014 19:01

I'm only getting a sweep as I'm booked in for an induction on my EDD. This is because, due to potential health concerns, my obstetrician and I decided that I shouldn't go overdue. Our closest midwife unit is part of the hospital, so it doesn't make a huge amount of difference whether I go in spontaneously or not. Definitely getting an epidural if I get induced, though! So today I've had a smoothie with pineapple, a whole tub of fresh pineapple, a mug of raspberry leaf tea (bleaugh!), and a spicy dinner. I've also been to the gym, so if any of the old wives tales have any substance to them baby will hopefully be here before then!!

chiruri · 29/12/2014 19:04

Dec my cravings have been all over the place! Recently been fresh fruit (pineapple and melon, mainly) and sushi (which I have been indulging in Blush). I've never been a fan of sushi (or fish in general) pre-pregnancy.

cheshirem2b · 29/12/2014 19:28

Dec I've had bit of a bloody show since my sweep and a few strong BH (not real contractions as I only get them when sat on sofa, chair or ball, never get them stood up)
Really hoping baby wants to come tonight/tomorrow but I guess I've just got to wait and see.

Morning everyone. Called labour ward last night. Had 2 hours of abdominal pain and then on and off pain but it turned out to be a false alarm. Had a very fast labour with ds1 so was probably a bit jumpy. Have a home birth planned and the community midwife who talked to me was lovely. DH was a bit irritating. Firstly he was 40 mins late home from work and then made me feel like I was inconveniencing him. Should kickstart him into finally getting things down from the loft for me though.

Dec2013mummy · 30/12/2014 05:35

Morning all, cherry you totally did the right thing by calling them. Angry at your Dh though! How far gone are you now?
I'm up as Ds decided 4am =playtime. Dh went into him but he just wouldn't settle, he still has a bottle in the night if he wakes, which I know we need to get him out of the habit of but I worry too much like. As he had/has severe reflux I know he uses it to settle himself and take the pain away so without knowing of it's that or not I don't really know what to do. Myself and Dh are both now wide awake though. Think that's me up for the day!
Still feeling very deflated that I won't be seeing the midwife until the 12th. Sounds so far away! I just keep telling myself though a later jan birthday would be better for dc in years to come.

37+5. Can't sleep so watching the strictly Christmas special. Ugh 4am wake ups. I'm hoping for January too. Wow that is a long time till you see the midwife.

cheshirem2b · 30/12/2014 05:59

Morning! Not a bad nights sleep considering my sweep yesterday. woke a couple of times with aches etc but soon back off to sleep. Now wide awake so going to watch a film downstairs while DH sleeps.
Baby is clearly comfy inside his/her bubble so I'm expecting to go in for induction on Thursday. At least I know I'm partially dilated so some of the hard work has been done already which should make induction slightly easier...!
Hope you early risers get some rest later.

Morning everyone.
So I am not the only one wide awake in the wee small hours then. I was up at 3.30 watching Suits, although I don't think I was really following what was going on!
dec the 12th does seem an awfully long way away. I am having my 38 week app today, then I believe weekly appointments until baby comes which is in line with the guidelines on my notes. You are right though, a later Jan bday would be better.
Glad you got some sleep Cheshire. I was due to be induced with DD and my labour started itself 8 hours before my induction app. I hear thats quite common, fingers Xd for you.
pesto I don't know if I am going to be offered a sweep at the m/w today tbh. I lived up north when I had DD and they wouldn't offer until 40 wks + my m/w hasn't mentioned it to me. I will be having one if it is offered, but it isn't comfortable at all. The only negative I remember from last time was that it didn't actually work for me even though the m/w said I was well on the way.

I feel like I have been kicked very hard in the lady bits still. Hoping this means madams head is well down!

Elizadoesdolittle · 30/12/2014 10:37

cherry you did the right thing. I had very quick labour with DD1 and DD2 was even quicker. You can't afford to hang around.

No signs of anything this end. Car is currently sat at in laws refusing to start so trying to sort that out. An annoyance I could do without but DH can't drive and not like I'll need to so could be worse.
