KATGOD · 23/10/2006 14:58

re breastfeeding in front of family -i think generally people nowadays get it. The only times I bfed away from family was in mixed company when my gran was present -she's 96 and was brought up by her grandmother so her views are very very old fashioned. Initially there was bit of boobs on show, but once I got the hang of it - say after a week - I was able to feed very discreetly, aided by the ever present muslin square. This little beauty is a mummy lifesaver -you are going to have one on you/by you/tucked down you for at least the first 6 months, and it makes a very handy shield for hiding bosums behind. I Really wouldn't be put off bfeeding because of fears about what other people might think - if you want to bfeed it's your choice and your baby's right, and other people will just have to get on with it. they can always leave the room if the like. Most of the time my FiL didn't seem to realise I was feeding DS, and my Dad was always v discreet and just looked away if there was any danger of bosum on view. Once baby is latched on and comfy you can@t see much.
On another note have an appointment at hospital on Wednesday when will be 40+6, but so far no one has mentioned sweeps or inductions. Some people seem to be having sweeps quite early on - any reason? Bump is covered in spots today think I may have been overdoing it on the vitamin e oil!!

wuzzlefraggle · 23/10/2006 15:11

katgod - well said im deffo going to bf, its just something that was at the back of my mind. silly little niggle really.
re induction, my midwife said if i get to 10 days over, she'd like to see me to arrange possible induction...i dont think they like to let people go over 14 days or something...not quite sure why to be honest

Popsi · 23/10/2006 16:21

Gingeme - sounds like this could be it!
Re bf in front of family - I felt exactly the same before having DD - thought I could NEVER do it in front of mine or DH Dad. But when it actually got around to it I just didn't care as much as I thought I would and also found is a lot easier in winter as if you wear a top & a cardie type thing then the baby hides the front & your cardie hides the side view & actually no-one can see anything. I often had people come up to me talking to me thinking baby was asleep when she was actually feeding!
Went to Toys R Us today to buy DD a "present from baby brother" & stocked up on some Xmas bits & pieces. It's my original due date tomorrow (before they moved it to the 31st) & suddenly felt v scared in Sainsburys!

clon · 23/10/2006 17:05

Hello all, welcome to purpleluce and congratulations luboo.
Still nothing here. Had my niece's 18th party yesterday in Surry and my parents are here for the week so been very busy and made no difference. What a lot of us overdue now!
Gingeme glad you enjoyed the baby show, always good to get freebies

Gingeme · 23/10/2006 17:11

Breast feeding gets easier once you get the hang of it. You dont have to strip off to do it you know he he.
Ive just been for a trek around our local park. Just got back and have a lot more 'show'. Got a few more contractions too but not very regular yet. Just a little bit painful now too. Hope I dont have a night time labour though gonna be knackered. One thing has been different today. I have been absolutely starving for what seems like ALL day. Must be getting my energy up ready for later.
Well hope you ladies are keeping well. Hope to add someone to the birth announcement thread real soon xx

Tigerlion · 23/10/2006 19:12

Whinge finally over! Eloise was born at 12.23am on Sunday 22 October weighing 8lb6oz. She is gorgeous and we absolutely adore her and her 14 month old brother is trying to work her out yet keeps on calling her Mama!

Was induced and despite absolutely nothing having changed by 7.30pm things went very quickly once that I had my waters broken at 10pm.Pain was so intenmse that I demanded an epidural which I was given at 12.15am and it did not even get to work as she was born ten or so minutes later! Definitely worth the wait and good luck to all of those who have been waiting. It will come quicker than you can imagine!

Congrats Luboo and Tigerlion - lovely names. I am glad they arrived safe and well for you.

Whiffy...my uncle is a reiki master, if anyone can get it going he can. Nothing has happened yet though. He told about some Russian thing where through mathematics they can work out the percentage using your dates and everything of an alternative therapy working.

This baby just isn't ready to come out yet, despite how ready I am!

Re: difficulty walking. I have days where the baby seems to be on a nerve in my pelvis and it makes my top legs go numb. Walking around actually eases it. Othertimes it feels like my pelvis is going to split apart and my legs won't work! Only lasts and short while and I had it with my first pregnancy. It is symphasis pelvis dysfunction. No cure!

I feel rather excited about meeting the baby and a lot of my moaning/fedupness has gone since I had the reiki. It really relaxed me.

girlygale1 · 23/10/2006 22:04

Congratulations Tigerlion - lovely name!!!

girlygale1 · 23/10/2006 22:05

Congratulations Tigerlion - lovely name!!!

MrsBlobby · 23/10/2006 23:19

Hi everyone

Just to let you know, we had our little boy last Monday, Sam Ellis. He weighed 7lb 1oz and managed a natural birth in water!!!

Congrats to all the others who have had their babies. Looking forward to catching up on all the news.

DogMum · 24/10/2006 08:00

Congratulations Tigerlion and MrsBlobby. They sound like pretty good birth experiences and lovely babies.

Don't worry EmilyTurner, I'm sure our babies will turn up too (even if it doesn't feel like it at the moment.) Relaxation sounds like a good start anyway.

As for bf in front of friends/family, you said it all Katgod. I think I'm going to want complete privacy at first while we're getting the hang of it. After that, I guess it depends on who and where. I know I'll be really offended if I'm asked to go to another room - I'd rather make that decision myself. I think we're behind other European (esp. southern european) countries on this one and the only way to change attitudes is for more of us to grin and 'bare' it, so it becomes 'normal.' Otherwise, how the hell are we supposed to follow government guidelines and bf for 6 months?

nowanearlyNicemum · 24/10/2006 08:59

morning all!
huge congratulations to luboo, tigerlion and Mrsblobby - great news and, as all the others have said, great names too!!

re breastfeeding, I suppose I'm lucky in as much as I have NO complexes whatsoever about bf in public. I feel very strongly that if someone has a problem with me nourishing my baby in the most natural way possible than that's just it - THEIR problem. I can obviously understand where some of you are coming from though. Just stick to your guns and do whatever feels most comfortable for you. My inlaws were a nightmare to start with as NO-ONE in their family has breastfed (France has the lowest percentage of breastfed babies in Europe ) but they just had to get used to it. Now I can laugh about MIL's comments such as 'you're STILL breastfeeding????' at 4 months FFS!! She couldn't believe it when I continued til 8 months She really drove me mad coming out with things like 'Everybody knows that breastfeeding past 3 months has no nutritional value - it's purely to save money' Perhaps I should pass her useful scientific comments onto the WHO!!! Hopefully I won't let her wind me up so much this time round. Not like she lives on the doorstep.

Am off for another monitoring session this afternoon, being 10 days overdue now. I know they're just dying to induce me but I'm really not keen. Will have to see...
Sorry for mammoth post!!

Congratlations Tigerlion and MrsBlobby, hopefully the backlog will start to clear soon and the overdue list will shrink! How you doing Martha?

Gingeme you're not being very British and waiting your turn it seems with those symptons, are you going to do a catgirl and leap frog us?!!

Absolutely no symptons to report from me at all!!

Swizzler · 24/10/2006 11:10

Congratulations Tigerlion and MrsBlobby! Lovely names. MrsBlobby: I think you're the first to manage a water birth as planned

youngmum21 · 24/10/2006 11:39

Hello all,
congratulations to all the new mummies!!!!
5 days togo for me and nothing here either bendy just the usual moans and groans lol!!!!
Was hoping lo mite come today as it my birthday that be a prezzie neva to forget lol !!!

DashingRedhead · 24/10/2006 11:39

Hi everyone,

Congratulations Tigerlion and Mrs Blobby! Hopefully the rest of us will be following on soon.

I am a teeny bit disappointed this morning as, after about 30 hours of discomfort and increasing pains, it all stopped overnight, so I think I'm back to square one. I'm trying not to get too bothered about it, as it won't make any difference! At least something is happening. The LO will come out when s/he is ready, not because DH is getting increasingly impatient!

wuzzlefraggle · 24/10/2006 11:49

congratulations tigerlion and mrsblobby!!!!! beautiful names too

hi Bendy - yep, its my due date today and i feel so uncomfortable! it honestly feels like the baby is almost going to fall out...lots of pressure on my pelvis. I WANT HER OUT!! lol

ok, this may be tmi, so sorry in advance. you all know that snotty type dischargy stuff thats been happening lately? well i just felt something cold on my leg, so removed it and when i looked in my hand it was like this snotty stuff in clour (maybe a little lighter) but it was like jelly!! only about 1cm's worth id say, but eeew! could that be part of the plug??

wuzzlefraggle · 24/10/2006 11:55

lol, just to clear up why it was on my leg...i cant actually get my own panties on anymore (have to wait for dh to get home from work and help out lol), so i have to eerm, go commando lol it puts a horrible amount of pressure on my pelvis if i try to do it myself now, so i dont coz im always paranoid that i'll cause either myself or the baby a mischief. god thats stupid, sorry in advance

Gingeme · 24/10/2006 13:13

Good afternoon ladies. Here to announce the very quick birth of Edward.Born at 6.04 this morning. He weighed a whopping 8lb 13oz. A lovely home birth though I nearly had him in the bathroom as thats where I got comfy standing at the sink. He fed for about an hour and half after his birth and is fast asleep now.
Ds 3 is well impressed with him and has already given loads of kisses.
Sorry to all the ladies I have overtaken and good luck to all those in labour,

wuzzlefraggle · 24/10/2006 13:21
