nicand2 · 18/10/2006 09:44

Congratulations catgirl sounds like the kind of birth I would like!!

Emzickle - definately don't feel bad about the bottle feeding, I had terrible problems as well and felt so guilty, try to remember everything feels out of proportion after birth.

Girlygale - My baby has also turned to back to back and dis engaged I'm going to see a consultant in a minute as there are a few queries over the position, weight and due dates. I've also heard it can be worse in labour and I'm worried, my mw said some good contractions can turn the baby. I was hoping a second baby would be a walk in the park - no such luck!! i guess there's no point worrying about it these babies tend to have their own plans for things.

DashingRedhead · 18/10/2006 09:45

Marthahm - thanks so much for your encouraging words on my waddling gait! It does help reconcile me to it...

GirlyGale - back to back, one of my best friends had her baby in a posterior position at the beginning of this year. I believe that what makes it difficult is that the labour can be longer while your uterus contracts to try getting the baby into a better position. So you can be in the early stages for quite a long time without much progress in dilation, although your body will be working really hard and may have achieved wonders, but not many centimetres. Also, the back pain doesn't go away between contractions for some, so it is harder to rest and relax. Try the all-fours, bottom in the air thing, because it can work wonders and I know some people swear by acupuncture. But in the end, an epidural may be the answer if the baby doesn't turn. We all have to keep an open mind and it's not an endurance test...

DogMum · 18/10/2006 10:14

Bloody hell catgirl - you realise you'll have to go into hiding to avoid getting lynched by a rabble of overweight, overdue women! Congratulations though. Glad it was quick. Hope you managed to get to John Lewis first.

Girlygale, I hope your baby moves for you. At least you know though, so you have the chance to try and do something about it or at least prepare for pain relief in labour.

emzickle, sorry to hear bf is not going to plan. Have you thought about phoning NCT breastfeeding line or La Leche? You might also want to ask your hospital for a visit from their bf specialist (pretty sure all NHS hospitals are supposed to have one.) ps. please remind me of this when I post same message in a couple of weeks.

Glad things are looking up, Lisamarv. Well done you for asserting yourself.

Hope everyone has a comfortable day.

BENDYB · 18/10/2006 11:18

mornin every1,
congratulations catgirl!
hope every1s ok.

Gingeme · 18/10/2006 11:27

Congratulations catgirl. Well done
marthahm all my ds's had the cord around their kneck and all were absolutely fine. Once the midwife pops it over their head they all slipped out no probs.
Ive just been for my 38+3 check up and the midwife says his head is engaged which aparantly is unusual. So Ive got to get my bits together for my home birth now just in case.OOH getting excited now.
lisamarv when are you due? My heartburn seems to have eased off a bit since baby has moved down so sleeping a little better now thank goodness.
Anyway ladies Im going to fill in my ds3 nursery application now ready for next Sept Cant believe Im doing it all again already.
Have a good one xxx

youngmum21 · 18/10/2006 11:36

Hi all

Mw just been and my birth plan is finally done!! . Got to start taking iron tabs though as iron levels are low .
Apart from that lo is fully engaged and hopefully ready to go sometime soon lol (i wish)!!!

marthahm · 18/10/2006 12:53

congratulations catgirl, lovely name. trying not to get jealous over the efficiency in having him 2 weeks early and so rapidly.

catgirl · 18/10/2006 12:58

thanks for the congrats.

Dogmum - didn't make it to John Lewis, so have ordered it on line and paid £10 for it be delivered tomorrow! Am currently wearing my very nice Elle McPh nursing bra - certainly worth the money as it is making me feel great!

Gingeme - at my 38 week check on Monday the midwife was surprised to feel the shoulders very well down and head engaged - and look what happened to me!

Spent time before going up to the hospital yesterday gathering bits and bobs and tried to print out birth plan only to discover that our printer has run out of black ink!

Midwife just gone and have to say, she is a million times better than the last time round, so there is hope!

Breastfeeding currently hurting, but she helped out and is sending out the community breastfeeding person on Friday, so fingers crossed, but to be honest if it continues to hurt I will crack open the tin of SMA Gold I have got 'just in case'.

Have posted birth announcement - now it is time for lunch!

nicand2 · 18/10/2006 13:00

Just got back from consultant apt and he seemed to think everything was fine. Baby is actaully facing sideways which he said was fine for birth and also it was totally normal for 2nd babe to be bigger and if I had a normal delivery with one big baby then chances were 95% of having another one (however he was a man and has never had to face the prospect of pushing out a baby the size of a Christmas turkey!)

Girlygale - he also said that the main thing was the baby was head down and the position of the spine before birth didn't matter too much.

Well I'm off to put Ds down for his nap and get my feet on the sofa as my socks have left deep ridges in my ankles.... surely I can't have too many days to go!!!

Catgirl - many congratulations. fast and furious, eh? will have to read the gory details on the birth thread. Have fun with Bryn.

emilyT - read your breastfeeding hell. sounds awful. I was due to give birth in K&C in 2003 but heard such bad reports I went out of the area to Maidstone instead. Are you still living in Canterbury area? I can smell a meet-up on the horizon if you are...

Gingeme · 18/10/2006 13:54

Oh I wish catgirl. Hope it is sooner rather than later tbh. Will be glad to get it over and done with. Were all prepared for the home birth now . Got the quilt and towels and heater ready. Even my neighbours on standby in case we need to dispose of ds for a little while. Midwife suggested sex if we could manage it. Told my dh this and he laughed. Funny that I did exactly the same. Dont think its worth buying any raspberry leaf tea or pineapples now. Have a nice afternoon ladies. Were all nearly there. x

wuzzlefraggle · 18/10/2006 14:34

hi everyone

Bendy - shopping went well (when isnt retail therapy great?lol). i got some raspberry leaf tea (havent tried it yet) got one of those gym balls (i LOVE it...its sooo comfy!) more maternity pads and breast pads, oh and some coasters lol.
Must admit, i had to drag myself away from the christmasy isles in some shops...

Well, still no baby here. Im very tempted to have another curry tonight

Emz - dont beat yourself up about the feeding ((hugs))

Catgirl - congratulations!! i'll be sure to read your birth announcement too

majormoo · 18/10/2006 14:40

hi all -congrats to all new mums

quick birth announcement-our son arrived on monday a week overdue. v pleased did not need to be induced-spent lots time at home. much longer labour than dd but better for it. pushing was tough though-his shoulders got stuck. he is nine pounds one! hard to type one handed. will post more later and catch up on news.

wuzzlefraggle · 18/10/2006 14:44

Congratulations Majormoo!! xox

majormoo · 18/10/2006 14:51

by the way deciding on a name this evening-poor thing has not got one yet!

wuzzlefraggle · 18/10/2006 14:57

be sure to let us all know! have u got any in mind?

marthahm · 18/10/2006 15:00

congratulations majormoo, he sounds enormous

totallyfloaty35 · 18/10/2006 15:06

Congrats ladies, and well done to everyone still waiting,i was overdue with my first 2 and so fed up i was a right pain to live with, but you all seem to be coping better than i did.
Well we seem to have cracked this breast feeding lark this time around, failed miserably with last 2 but they were just fine on the Milupa. So to any one who doesnt get on with BF,dont worry its not the end of the world, babies do just fine on the other stuff and you dont have to do all the night feeds either.Lexie was fab last night though, fed her til 11;30 then she slept through til 6am,fed her for 40 mins then she slept til 9;15.Much better than previous night where she fed for almost 5hrs and i didnt sleep at all and was so tired i spent most of the night and morning sobbing.
Recommend accupuncture and reflexology to start things off, they were the treatments i had just before all kicked off.Goodluck

EmilyTurner · 18/10/2006 15:22

Congrats Catgirl and Majormoo on your babies. Well done!

Whiffy, yep I am still around Canterbury. I am going to Margate now, which is the only maternity hospital for East and south Kent. Ashford is a nightmare to drive to in a hurry and as this is my second, I want straight roads!

Been to see midwife. Am 4/5 engaged at 38 plus 3. Been feeling sick and blood pressure up a bit and she thinks these are signs it is coming. Plus I can barely walk. Three years ago today I went into labour with my daughter!

Good luck everyone.

Popsi · 18/10/2006 15:44

Congratulations Catgirl & Majormoo.
Marthahm - thanks for your thoughts on the chicken pox - spoke to midwife today and she said much the same. Picked up DD last night and there had been another 3 of them gone down with chicken pox that day! At least she's not back to nursery now until Monday.
Went to see midwife for 38 week check up and she started launching off into induction options! I thought she could be a bit more encouraging than that. However baby is 1/5th engaged now so is better than nothing, but then she said that with the second, the baby can bob in and out of being engaged anyway so it doesn't mean much. I think I'll be here for a while yet.
Girlygale - had a friend with a back to back labour - it was quite slow at first but all was ok and she got through without needing an epidural.

Gingeme · 18/10/2006 15:49

Congratulations majormoo. Hope you are well xxx

youngmum21 · 18/10/2006 16:08
