speedbird you should still get a glucose test, I'm actually diabetic, nothing to do with weight either Wink

Mitchey · 25/09/2014 15:09

FYI, with reference to BMI anybody with a BMI over 30 would be classified as obese . . .

speedbird17 · 25/09/2014 15:20

I'm aware as you previously posted that you were diabetic.

Severely overweight to me is just not synonymous with a high BMI. My BMI is currently 29 and fluctuates from 28-30 and I am not overweight at all in the sense of 'fat' as I have a high muscle mass.

I found your comment offensive, insensitive and unnecessary especially when quite a few in this group are posting that they have a BMI over 30.

You might want to rethink your definition of severely overweight, and take more care in what you post in future.

Mitchey · 25/09/2014 15:27

It's simply a medical fact Speedbird, its not offensive. I was just quoting the NHS website.

Mitchey · 25/09/2014 15:28

Plus I also have high muscle mass and am 5'10" but still have a BMI of 15.

Mitchey · 25/09/2014 15:29

Actually I lie, it's 18. Not 15. I just checked it on the calculator.

fififolle · 25/09/2014 15:37

Woah! This isn't AIBU, it's a happy, supportive, empathetic place where newly pregnant ladies can seek comfort and advice.

Mitchey · 25/09/2014 15:39

That's what I thought fififolle somebody needs to tell speedbird to keep her hair on . . lol

speedbird17 · 25/09/2014 15:42

My hair is firmly on thanks, just found what you said offensive considering there are a few ladies on this group with BMI's over 30. We don't need anyone spouting 'severely overweight'. We're here for support and to help each other - I was just letting you know that what you said was offensive.

People like me? You know not the first thing about me Mitchey.

I was purely trying to save from anyone's feelings getting hurt as I know early pg can be a turbulent time emotionally. Someone could have brought their BMI down from something higher, or have a medical reason that makes losing weight difficult. Please use tact and sensitivity even when quoting fact. I for one want to support and be supported by everyone on this thread, and if something offends or could be offensive I'd like to think we can all ask others to be a touch more tactful.

Advocating a healthy weight, balanced diet and general health and fitness in pregnancy is probably one of the most helpful things you can do IMHO.

Mitchey · 25/09/2014 16:03

ToriB34 - with all due respect - getting your weight down now will probably go a longer way to providing you with a happy healthy pregnancy than taking large dose Folic Acid.

Don't feel down, being pregnant doesn't mean you have to put on unnecessary weight, you don't need anymore calories than when you're not pregnant until right at the end when it's only just under 300 extra a day - a small slice of wholemeal toast. Good luck x

I'm a massive advocate of all those things Mitchey so we're reading from the same page. I was just perhaps in not the most eloquent way, trying to say that the way you put it could cause offense.

ToriB I was glad of the folic info as I didn't know! I too have fluctuated since have 2 mc in the last year, but have made moves to do something about it including training for a half marathon and climbing Fuji - we're all fighting our own personal demons, let's just help each other and try not to offend! Xx

Titsalinabumsquash · 25/09/2014 16:07

Scan all done. 8 weeks exactly, so they've brought it forward a few days. I'm in the system now though so I can get a consultant apt asap. Smile

speedbird17 · 25/09/2014 16:08

Mitchey, just FYI there are only 80-90kcals in a small slice of wholemeal toast.

aberjen · 25/09/2014 16:08

Fantastic news tits, yay!

speedbird17 · 25/09/2014 16:09

Ahhhh! Tits so glad to hear that is such good news :)

GetTheRedOut I've just taken today off work - was sick twice before work so just couldn't face it. I've been throwing up about 2 or 3times each day (I know, that's probably not even that much.. But I still just feel so nauseous and sick the whole time!) The doctor gave me a prescription for metoclopramid which is kinda helping a bit, and she said she can put me on part sick leave if it doesn't get better.

Just because not everyone is affected by morning sickness doesn't mean we can feel sorry for ourselves if we are! Smile

Mitchey · 25/09/2014 16:16

YAY for tits

That sounds odd doesn't it?! Grin
