I really want to find out, dh doesn't but he's probably not going to be at the scan (or birth) so I think it's my choice. 11 days untill scan.

MGFM · 19/10/2014 19:37

Fish That must be a hard decision to take the work offer and miss the birth. There are so many men in the military that miss the birth and first few weeks/months of their babies. I was determined that that wouldn't be us so we have timed this whole pregnancy to coincide with DH's 18 month shore side appointment. I don't know what I would do if I had to do this alone. You must be a very strong person.

We have our scan on friday! we are def finding out what we are having. We don't have the patience to wait!

Surfsup1 · 19/10/2014 22:04

Oh Fish you're a better woman than me! Dh was around for the birth of DS1 but after 2 weeks paternity leave he was working overseas 3-5 days per week for the first few months. Having experienced that I think I would kick him to kingdom-come if he suggested a work-trip around the time of this baby's birth!

Is this work opportunity a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence? Because that's what he'd be missing. For me it would have to be a pay-the-mortgage-off type opportunity to make it worthwhile.

DH organised for a maternity nurse to come in and help me at night 2 nights per week while he was away (my family were all overseas) and I don't know how I'd have coped otherwise (I probably would have I guess).
Could you get an au pair or something to help?

Surfsup1 · 19/10/2014 22:07

Chinese Astrology says I'm having a boy! Chinese Astrology will be put to the test in around 4 hours! Eeek!! Grin

MGFM · 19/10/2014 22:09

Is any one else experiencing leaking nipples? It is an interesting journey this pregnancy business! :)

Surfsup1 · 19/10/2014 22:10

Not yet, but my cleavage smells like yoghurt!

fishfingerSarnies · 19/10/2014 23:07

Oooh exciting surf! My said I'm having a girl though I did it for my already born daughter and supposedly she should be a boy.

It's a tricky situation for my poor dh I'm worried he will regret missing the birth, it is a once in a life time thing, if he doesn't take it he might not get anything else and that would be worse as he has to support us, 3 months work can't really be turned down in his profession. We rearranged our wedding because of a job he got, I totally support him in what ever he needs to do for work. But I'm nervous about coping on my own.

fishfingerSarnies · 19/10/2014 23:07

Cleavage smells like yogurt has highly amused me.

Surfsup1 · 20/10/2014 00:09

That really is a tough call - tough for him too I'm sure!
Do you have room/funds for an au pair or similar? I found it amazingly helpful when I had #2 and DS1 was only 18 months old. It just meant he had someone to take him to the park etc when I was feeding/exhausted etc.

Just having another adult around can really save your sanity. Not sure how much it is these days - we paid about 90 quid per week. Worth every penny at the time!!

Surfsup1 · 20/10/2014 03:41

Well, I'm not sure what it says about online Chinese Horoscopes, but…
It's a GIRL!! Shock Grin

Surfsup1 · 20/10/2014 03:41

And she's all perfectly healthy and like to suck her thumb already!

Rainbow555 · 20/10/2014 05:39

Oh yay surf that is great news congrats! Did you have any inkling? Did u get a scan pic you can post?
Mine isn't until 4th nov as they were pretty booked up. Not finding out but can't wait to know if all ok

M27J5M · 20/10/2014 07:52

Aww that's great news surfs :) glad to hear all is well!

Might be a silly question but I was stupid enough to do it........on the Chinese predictor did you just use your age/month as I did and then realised there's s converter to change it to the Chinese lunar month or something alike! Said my da was a girl but after I realised and converted got it right

Rainbow555 · 20/10/2014 08:23

Sooo I have had a little bit too much time on my hands (or procrastinated over some work I am meant to do) and I have copied other groups stats docs and made one for our group too.

Hopefully it has worked! I also hope that I have not offended anyone if the details are wrong, or if I have left anyone off, or if someone is no longer in the group.

I have just gone back through this thread and hopefully have most updates but i am sure i have missed some!

The spreadsheet should be easily (?!) editable by anyone..... here goes
docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nZBGYiI-xBdblKDX0CcBEcVeQiwVhusblD70Vu20Y4U/edit?usp=sharing

So feel free to edit away!
I will see if MN admin can add to the first post for this thread and then we should be be able to find it each time :)

Hopefully this has not stepped on any toes...I clearly need to go do something like my dishes now!

fishfingerSarnies · 20/10/2014 08:34

Congrats surf!

SurfsUp1 · 20/10/2014 08:44

They gave me a CD with lots and lots of photos (like 50 odd!) and a video, but I can't seem to unlock them so I can edit off all my personal details. Confused

She looks distinctly like a baby, though. Smile

DontBeBlueBeARainbow · 20/10/2014 08:45

Ah Rainbow I love the spreadsheet, we can always put it in the OP on our next thread, as well as instructions how to join the FB group.

I'm so excited that as according to all the pregnancy progress guides, I can now feel my uterus just below my belly button, like a melon-sized thing. It's crazy to know baby is just inside there and is helping me feel a bit more connected to the baby, as I had been feeling a bit disconnected. I may start talking to the baby a bit.

I'm so excited for the 20 week scan (2 weeks to go), I have banned myself from buying anything for baby until after that, but earmarked a few things on eBay/Amazon for as long as all is well at the scan Smile

fourmonthstogo · 20/10/2014 08:55

Congrats surf - its so exciting finding out! I've loved being able to tell people this week, my mum was flabbergasted as she was convinced I'd have another girl. Did your dd have a preference? Glad all is well.
fish what a hard position to be in. I really feel for you. Will your mum be looking after dd when you go into hospital? I would definitely ask her to stay for a while after the birth to help you out if that's feasible.

fourmonthstogo · 20/10/2014 08:59

Oh and I did the Chinese calendar, knowing he's a boy, and it was right. I did it last time too and it was right then too. Not scientific maybe but fun anyway!

fishfingerSarnies · 20/10/2014 09:25

My mum will come for a week after the baby is born to help out, hoping to send dd to Mil for the week that it's born.
Really hoping they ok a c-section but I don't get to have the meeting untill 30 weeks. Would like to just know so I can have everything planned and sorted.

Can't wait to find our what I'm having.

persepolis123 · 20/10/2014 10:56

m33r what time is your scan? Mine isn’t until 4pm which is a bit rubbish because it doesn’t leave much time to go clothes shopping after Grin

fourmonths I think it’s natural for girls to want little sisters and boys to want little brothers but she won’t mind at all when he’s here. I wanted a little sister and ended up with a brother but I couldn’t have been happier when he was born.

According to the Chinese gender predictor I’m having a girl. It is what we were told at our private scan but we are waiting until the 20 week one to have it confirmed. I put in DS’s birthday too and it said boy so that’s interesting.

Congrats surf Lovely to have so many photos too!

fish that’s a tough one. For me it would be dependent on how much help I got from family/friends after the birth especially if you are having a c-section and can’t do any lifting etc.

SIL had her scan at the end of last week and they were going to find out but baby’s legs were firmly closed so they were unable to tell them!

KeeperOfTheZoo · 20/10/2014 11:24

I was thinking about whohas all day on Saturday Sad, I hope she's ok. Obviously she won't be but you know what I mean... Flowers

Gudgyx · 20/10/2014 11:28

I'm gonna sound like a completely ungrateful b*tch here but something is really annoying me.

My MIL has gone crazy buying stuff. I mean loads. She told me at the weekend she has bought us:

Steriliser starter kit (with all the bottles etc)
Bottle maker?!?!
Gro-bags
LOADS of clothes
200 nappies
Cot-bed (we knew she was getting this)
Fitted cot sheets

Various other things. I stopped listening in absolute shock. I know its her first grandchild, but she's going a bit too far. My mum has bought our travel system, and a few clothes.

MIL then text me at the weekend saying she is looking for cot bedding. She has picked winnie the pooh. (To match the bath stuff OHs aunt has already bought btw, without asking us.)

I want to pick my babys bedding!! I want to decorate her nursery the way I want to, not to fit in with what MIL has picked.

FIL wants to buy her a bike. I'm 20 weeks pregnant FFS!!!

I want to go baby shopping when I'm a bit further on and have moved house. I want to buy things for my baby coming :( OH just laughs when I say to him about it.

I know she's excited,we all are. Dont know what to do here.

On a brighter note, I have my 20 week scan on Thursday and am feeling bubs moving lots so all very lovely

MGFM · 20/10/2014 11:28

Chinese gender predictor says I am having a girl....I have another 4 days to wait to see if it is right!

M27J5M · 20/10/2014 11:40

Gudgy I'd be totally annoyed too if some1 had went on a shopping spree picking everything for me! Especially my bedding as I think that's a personal choice, my mum picked mine up last time because ds came early, described into her (even tho I showed her it) got home from hosp shed binned receipts and washed bedding and put it on for me saying it was all they had, we went in a day later and the original set was there pointed it out and she pulled a face and said she didn't like it! Still to this day think she got the other 1 cos she preferred it :/ made it very clear to other half that if we don't find out we'll buy 1 pink/blue and take back the 1 we don't need
