I certainly wasn't being hysterical! I haven't and wouldn't use cot bumpers because there is plenty of information that shows that there is a risk associated with them.

junkfoodaddict · 17/10/2014 13:14

If you don't want to use them, don't. If you're happy using them and want to, don't feel guilty doing so. The most important thing is to trust your own judgement and instincts. There are pros and cons to a lot of things and parenthood is hard enough as it is without being told to do this, do that and don't do this and don't do that.

persepolis123 · 17/10/2014 13:25

I didn't mean you personally pink. It's down to each parent to read what information is out there and make an informed decision. Yours is different to mine. That's absolutely fine.

persepolis123 · 17/10/2014 13:59

I know there are lots of people who wouldn't take the risk to co-sleep either. Having read up on it I weighed up the pros and cons, took some steps to reduce the risk and we happily co-sleep with DS. That's not to say that it suits everyone and that you aren't entirely justified in making a different decision.

fishfingerSarnies · 17/10/2014 15:43

Keep losing you guys.
How's everyone feeling? I'm feeling much better finally not sure how many weeks I am probably about 18/19 scan in next few weeks, really need to find my notes and check date. First time round I knew to the day how pregnant I was and read through my notes all the time now I'm assuming they are in which ever bag I used at my last appointment.
Had a bad day yesterday woke up to find a fox had got my rabbit Sad not a nice clear up and dh is still away for had to keep dd and dog away from garden while I did the cleaning. Luckily she didn't see any gore.
She keeps saying she misses her bunny but she's only 2 so doesn't understand death bless her.
My 16 week appointment was a pain I had to take my dd and wait for an hour and a half then we were in for less than 5 mins, such a waste of time. Grrr
Speaking of dd should wake her up from nap but loving the quiet, she played for an hour before falling asleep and now she's been asleep for 2. Blissful. Maybe another cup of tea and I will wake her.

m33r · 17/10/2014 17:03

Thanks everyone. I don't think I will use the bumpers but may do a bit more reading but thanks all for views and hints and tips!

mgfm I'm getting so excited now too - this thread really got me going today hearing that others are getting nursery rooms cleared out and looking at little outfits etc! Such a lovely time for us all!!

durham I can't believe your bad luck! Hopefully you can join us in the (nearly) 'glow' stage soon. Thinking of you x

m33r · 17/10/2014 17:04

perse we're 20 week scan buddies - am also 29th! Can't wait!!'

pinkandstripey · 17/10/2014 17:35

Poor bunny fish :(

I never got my head around co sleeping. DP still smoked when ds was tiny, so it wasn't an option for us anyway, but i don't think ill investigate further this time. I went through a stage of frequently waking up in a panic in the night looking for ds down the side of the bed - he'd long since been in his own room and has never slept in our bed, let alone fallen out at 4am!!

fourmonthstogo · 17/10/2014 20:08

Had our scan today and all is fine, and it's a boy! A bit of a surprise, but it means we'll have one each! Dd was saying that she wanted a little sister, but now at least she'll have plenty of time to get used to it! Now to decide what colour to paint the nursery. ..

m33r · 17/10/2014 20:16

Congrats foirmonths any photos? Sure dd will soon love the idea if a baby bro!

fourmonthstogo · 17/10/2014 22:25

Sadly we didn't have enough change for the extortionate £4 charge! But it was so lovely to see him wriggling around and we got a great close up view of his face when she was checking his lip!

m33r · 18/10/2014 08:01

Lovely 4minths congrats!

junkfoodaddict · 18/10/2014 13:37

i couldn't sleep if I co-slept. Neither would DH. In fact, DS was 10 days old when we 'threw' him into his own room, still in the Moses basket and progressed to the cotbed at 6 weeks. He has always been a fab sleeper (except when he had a cough and cold) and even now at aged 2, loves his bed.

junkfoodaddict · 18/10/2014 14:15

whohasnickedallmyvodka gave birth last night to little Eve at 10:10pm. It is in 'chat'. Perfect hands and perfect little feet, she described. A thoughts are with whohas at this very traumatic time. X

Finding out the sex of Surfette tomorrow! Feeling excited about this whole thing for the first time!!

Fingers crossed for a healthy happy little bundle!!

Re the SIDS advice being hysterical, I don't think it's so much the advice itself that is OTT, but some people to get a little bit hysterical about applying the advice as if it were law and as if those who don't toe the line are wildly irresponsible.

No one freaks out about mums taking their babies in the car for journeys that re unnecessary and that is a much bigger risk if you think about it logically.

Surfsup1 · 19/10/2014 09:57

Whoah Flowers xx

M27J5M · 19/10/2014 10:47

Awe that sounds exciting surfsup Smile I've got another 2 weeks to wait but OH has changed his mind and I don't think we're finding out anymore!

How are the Reston you lovely ladies? Hope you've all had good weekends so far, I was at an engagement party last night, 1st night out in months, actually really enjoyed it but was glad to get home Smile

m33r · 19/10/2014 16:20

surfs (and anyone else who fancied a bit of fun) I just found a Chinese calendar gender predictor and it told me I'd be having a girl. Scan is on 29th but wondered if anyone wanted to give it a go and to report back.

I'm aware that this is very old-wive-day and there is a 50:50 chance of it being right but thought it would be interesting anyway. Anyone who knows their gender can also do it retrospectively.

Here's the link I used:

Good luck m2

m33r · 19/10/2014 16:21

Sorry posted too soon - meant good luck tomorrow surfs

M27J5M · 19/10/2014 17:59

I don't the Chinese predictor a few weeks ago, says a girl for me xx

m33r · 19/10/2014 18:17

Do you think you'll resist finding out m2 ?

fishfingerSarnies · 19/10/2014 18:21

My husband will have been away for 3 months when he comes back properly at the beginning of December. He's told me about another job he's been offered that would be fab for his career bit it means he'd miss the birth of the baby. It makes total sense for him to take the job as its work and it could be great for future etc.
But I'm wondering how I will cope with a toddler and dog on my own for the last few months of pregnancy and early weeks of post c-section birth. My mum lives 5 hours away as does Mil hoping my best mate will be able to be my birth partner. So my mum can come down the week after birth to do the heavy lifting.

Shock

M27J5M · 19/10/2014 18:31

I really want to find out but have spoke to other half and said we have 2 weeks to discuss and decide for definite if we're finding out or not and if he's really dead set against finding out then I wont either, I don't want to know if he doesn't know
